  • HT201210 why wont my phone turn on?

Ive woken up this moring and whilst my phone is on charge it was very hot and had turned itself off.  I tried turning on and resetting it but had no joy.  I thought I would let it cool down and try taking out the mains lead and putting it back on charge later but that still hasnt come on.  I've tried putting it in recovery mode to recharge it but that hasnt worked either.
    Please help!

You can try putting your iPhone in Recovery Mode, as described at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • HT4061 why wont my phone turn on

phone went flat put it on charge and nothing wont turn back on yes charger does work

Reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.
If that fails to resolve, then as Ingo2711 suggested, restore the device.

    Sounds like a hardware failure.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and take it in for them to look at. It will probably need to be replaced.

    Hello there, RFJA2211.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great troubleshooting steps for unexpected power off of your iOS device:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

Why can't I turn off location services?  Restrictions are disabled.  The on off slidebar is grayed out.  I'm concerned my phone is being tracked.

While I know there are phones that can do this, they really are not powered "off" - they are more in a hybernation state.  However, the iPhone has never worked that way.  Off on an iPhone means truly powered off - nothing is still running so there is no minimal function left ticking away to wake up the phone and sound the alarm.

  • Why is my iphone 5 battery dying even with phone turned off ?

Why is my iphone 5 battery dying even with phone turned off ? Even when my phone is fully charged and I turn it off when I turn it back on the battery is drained. Why ?

Completely drained when turning the iPhone on after being off?
All lithium-ion batteries lose some charge when the computer or device is powered off.
If the battery is entirely depleted after the iPhone is powered off with a fully charged battery at the time, something is wrong - unless powered off for a number of weeks or months.

  • Why does battery suddenly go to 0 and phone turn off?

I have an iPhone 5 and noticed the following. My battery is showing 30% or more; I start taking photos (with flash) and all of a sudden (within minutes) the phone turns off as if it was completely discharged. I plut it in, and within 5 minutes the battery is showing 40%.  The fast charge time and the very unexpected turn-off make me think the battery wasn't really at 0. Am I wrong - could a few flash photos drain a 30% battery to 0, and could an empty battery charge up to 40% in a few minutes (being plugged into a car charger)? Or does my battery need to be recalibrated somehow?

I found out that after it shuts off, the first time I hold the buttons, it shows a charge symbol and doesn't turn on. But if I hold the buttons again, then it does boot! Unfortunately, it then shows 4%, not 30%. I let it run down again, plugged it in the wall for 4 hours like you said. Let's see what it does now. It's just weird how it unexpectedly shuts off long before it gets to 1%.

  • HT1414 why my iphone 4 turned off suddenly

why my iphone 4 turned off suddenly?

Don't know... what were you doing when your phone shut off?

  • So my phone turned off and won't turn back on

my phone turned off on Tuesday and I eventually got it back on by syncing it up. Now, it turned off again, and I'm away from my cord to sync it to turn it on. Either way, this is clearly a problem. I believe I should be getting a new iPhone because of this. This is unacceptable.

Whenever you sync the phone it automatically creates a backup so you don't need to try to do them separately. The backup would contain your contacts, calendars, app data, and Camera Roll among other things.
More info about backups specifically can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
I would also make sure that when you sync the phone that you have all the pertinent checkboxes ticked, such as the Sync Address Book Contacts checkbox in the Info tab. You should also import your photos from the phone to your photo management software(Image Capture, iPhoto, etc.). This will ensure that the information from the phone will be stored in the backup file and on the computer in your address book, photo folder etc.
Sometimes the backup can contain software settings and code that can cause the problems to reoccur, which is why I recommended both the sync and backup. If after restoring the phone and restoring the data from a backup the issues are still present you can restore the phone and set it up as new. If after setting it up as new the issues are still present then your issues are hardware related.

  • Why wont my razor turn on ? solid white light stays on .

why wont droid razor turn on ? white light stays on.

I had a similar problem. The phone wouldn't turn on at all, though when I pressed the power button a white light would come on briefly, then one time it came on and stayed on, but that was all. I was told (by Verizon) that once the phone discharges all the way to zero it can be difficult to start up again even if it is plugged into the charger. Plugging it into the charger in the house didn't work, but I tried the car charger and it started charging right away.  My theory is that the wall outlet charger does not have enough "oomph" to kick start the phone if it is totally depleted, but the car charger must have more (what? volts/amps I'm no electrical expert) whatever it needs to bring it back and start it charging. Once it got going (at 20%) I brought it back into the house and it charged OK.  Wish I would've though of this when the other phone did this a few weeks ago! What I'm thinking is that the outlet charger needs to be redesigned to fix this problem.  There is a very good chance that, no matter how good you are about keeping your phone charged, there will be that one time that it discharges down zero and then . . .

  • Phone turns off when taking away from face

During a conversation, if I move the phone away from my face the conversation is cut off, screen goes blank and phone turns off. I don't get the screen with the options including putting call on speakerphone, pressing end call, etc. What the heck? Anyone else?

Are both of you using a case on the iphone? Mine did that when I put it in my old Iphone case. Since I have taken it out, it doesn't do it any longer.
Someone on here said that the new 3G has more sensors and the old cases cover or interfere with the sensors. Not sure how or why that would disconnect a call though. Try it without a case to see if it works.
