Why would someone require CS4 files?

Hi,
My office works in CS3. We have a client who is working in CS4.
We're submitting Illustrator files to our client and they are absolutly requiring that we give them CS4 files. So obviously this would require us to purchase an upgrade to CS4.
Is there any reason why they would be requiring CS4 files? Is there some sort of compatiblity issues with opening CS3 files in CS4? I'm not ready to lose the client over this, but I've never heard of the newest version not being able to open a previous versions files.
Please shed some light on this.

Now, if they submit a CS4 file to you and they have used some new features that were not available in CS3 then there may be issues. And they should be saving any files they send to you as CS3 version as well.
here are several very excellent and obvious reasons.
First if you are outlining strokes in CS 3 and send them the file they might have to remove all of the extra and overlapping points.
If you use the free transform tool on a gradient mess and do not notice that all the curved paths with in the mesh are converted to hard angles
and resave it, then you are going to cause your client a lot of work.
If there are effects used on the files and they have turned some of them off when they saved the files this will not translate well in CS3 and if you have to turn off an effect that they do not wish you to trash you cannot do this in CS 3 and if you can't use that effect for what you are doing at least not for now then you have to trahs it since in CS 3 you cannot turn off the effects visibility.
If they use the blob brush and want that look you are going to have one hell of a hard time matching it.
If they use transparency in a gradient you are going to lose it.
If they import an layered or transparent tiff it will probably be flattened at least the raster portion of the file, so no more transparency with that place image.
Is that enough or should I list more?
In other words if you want to work with your client and give your other clients a better product it is probably a wise choice to upgrade.

Not sure what you are talking about? Your subject has nothing to do with you not being able to see the copy/paste in Preview.

Why would an iCloud backup file be grayed out on an initial iPhone 5s setup screen?

I have a 4s with the latest update and recently upgraded to a 5s. I backed everything up in iCloud on the 4s before setting up the 5s. After everything is done, I stated the 5s setup. However, after I select 'restore from iCloud,' the backup file I need from my 4s is grayed out (no error message) and is not selectable.
My first thought was that the new 5s didn't have the latest update. So I started the phone, updated it, and then followed the recommended instructions on how to restore a backup file. The restoration seemes to wipe the ios update and the backup file is still gray.
Scoured the forums and google for an answer and came up with nothing. So I pose it to the group.

UPDATE (13-Jan 2015): Took my phone do a different AppleStore and had an appointment with a Genius. The Genius hinted that I should call AppleCare (1-800-APL-CARE) and tell them my story. He said that it was not possible for him to do it, but that by escalating the problem to AppleCare that they may help. I was on the phone with a rep and his supervisor for about an hour before they told the Genius to replace my phone as a one-time out-of-warranty replacement. They stated that because the phone was working fine before the update, and showed no damage, that they would grant my request. Yay Apple for making this right!
This is a known bug, error 101 or something. Only solution they have at the moment is warranty replacement.

I can't really see why anyone would bother. Can't recall ever seeing that used in a project I've worked on or code reviewed. There again it'd be up the top where I wouldn't usually pay much attention.
If you're working on a project and you don't know the reason then maybe there is actually no good reason.
Devs will sometimes see something and they use it just because they can. I see all sorts of odd things and there's no real reason at all for using them other than "because I could".

Why would someone not receive my acceptance notification being sent from Outlook Mac 2011?

I am using Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, version 14.1.2 (110505) on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
When I accept a meeting invitation, my My Day window and my Outlook Calendar are both instantly populated with the event however the sender of the meeting does not receive confirmation of my acceptance. The acceptance auto-sent-message independently presents itself into my Outlook Deleted Items folder. The same happens when I click Tentative and Decline.
How can I ensure the organiser is notified of my R.S.V.P.? How do I make sure they receive my notification?
The Preferance pane settings for Notifications & Sounds doesn't indicate any hint as to what would be the obvious reason other than to display an alert on my desktop, bounce the Outlook icon in the Dock, have sounds assigned to mailbox behaviours, and have the ability to reset alerts.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? How did you resolve it?

Why would Tx Required be faster than TxNotSupported?

I have a stateless session bean that exposes a business method which calls another stateless session bean's worker method many times. Both beans use container-managed transactions and are deployed in a WL8.1 server.
          All methods of both beans were originally configured using the "*" wildcard with a trans-attribute of Required. Since this business method is a report-ish method that doesn't change data in any way, I thought I'd speed it up a bit by removing the requirement for a transaction. I did this by adding additional container-transaction tags for the business method and the worker method that use trans-attributes of NotSupported and Supports respectively.
          But instead of running faster, the business method takes about 3 times longer than when transactions were required.
          Something is obviously amiss but I'm not sure where to look. Any suggestions?

Why would someone launch a newer version and not get all of the bugs out first?

Facebook will not load. Email will not load. Nothing will load. Firefox is not compatible with my anti-virus, so it disabled. All Adobe files were lost in the download process. FF is running soooo slow. I uninstalled FF and now cannot reinstall. When I go to mozilla.com there in no "download now" button. What is up with this?

Locations are Taiwan, China (what a surprise), and Japan. Other ip addresses gave up Russian and Polish locations. It never stops does it!

I run an application called PeerBlock on most of my PCs (I should really invest in a hardware firewall)
It blocks up to 2 billion addresses at any one point, all of which are either malicious, known hackers, unassigned addresses etc.
It's very surprising figuring out which applications are trying to connect where.
Skype's been a major issue, because of the node distribution, you connect to a huge amount of nasty addresses.
I guess I'm just a paranoid person, but it gives me peace of mind.

Why would anyone not use VBR?

FYI, I'm not an audio guru, and while I don't use the best audio equipment, I also don't buy the cheapest stuff out there.
All that aside, my question to the many very knowledgeable people here is: why would someone not want to check the VBR option when encoding?

Because it can sometimes interfere with importing for one and not everyone can appreciate the difference.

Relax, they weren't converted to PDF.
You can tell by right clicking ANY of them and choosing "Properties". You'll see there that they're STILL .xls or .xlsx files. The "association" has changed and Windows now indicates that they open with Reader, which isn't right.
Where it says "Open With" under the General tab, you can click "Change" and re-select Excel as the default app to open thim.

In Photoshop CS4, .png open/save support was provided by a plug-in. It is possible the plug-in has been deleted or moved, or has become unavailable to Photoshop because of a change in file protections.
Do you have the file PNG.8BI on your system. It should be here on a 32 bit Windows system:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats\PNG.8BI

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
/var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
