Why would they just replace the fans when it needs a new logic board?

Went to see a "genius" at the Apple store with my Week 12 MBP. Complained about excessive heat and it whining when unplugged, ever since I got it. He sent it off, three days later I got it back in the mail. But when I looked at the repair doc all it says is they replaced the "FAN ASSY, LT, M1" and also the "RT" one. So now I have two new fans (which worked fine before), and that's it. It still get hot enough over the F keys to burn my skin, and it still whines like a baby when unplugged.
All they have to do is look at the serial number (8612) to know it needs a new MLB, right? What do I do now, call them back and go through this all over again?
MacBook Pro 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Went through the exact same thing with my week 17 MBP. The first repair came back with new power inverter and fan assemblies even though my noise was clearly coming from below the keyboard. The noise continued and if anything was actually worse so I was starting to regret ever sending the computer back in the first place. So I called again and sent it back in. This time, the laptop came back untouched and declared "within spec". Now I was really fired up. I told them I would use it for a week and if the problem continued it will come back. So back it went a third time and this time the logic board was replaced. I have to say, the difference is very noticeable and completely worth it in hindsight. I was almost ready to live with it and am so glad I did not. Be persistent and let them know you are prepared to send it in as many times as it takes.

  • Why do they not replace the iphone with a box piece

I had bought my iphone 2 months back. And yesterday I had noticed that there is a small white dot where the network carrier name is displayed. It is clearly visible when I set the wall paper as any black photo or dark coloured photo. And it is also visible when I switch on the phone. It is visible always.I had spoken to the Iphone customer care and they said it is a hardware problem and that they will replace my phone. My problem is that I am not satisfied with the way the are replacing it.They are just going to give a phone in hand.It is not a box piece. My question is why they cannot give me a box piece? I had bought a box piece. And in the previous discussions there people who have had problem with the replaced iphones.I want them to replace it with a box piece and take back the old box peice which has a problem.
APPLE HAS TO REPLACE WITH A BOX PIECE.
When its a deffect why dont they replace it with a box piece.

    Sushil2john,
I agree with your reasonable expectation completely.
I can buy any piece of electronics at Costco, Wal-mart, Best Buy, Staples... etc and return it for a new one if the item I purchased turns out to be a lemon.
And as far as the poster that said you get a new shell, battery and screen, well that is nonsense. I talked to the Tech that was setting up my replacement phone and when I asked him about what I would get he would only say that it would look new and if I was concerned about the battery I could buy Apple care just in case the battery on the replacement didn't hold up.
Also the "Shell" on my replacement was definitely not new. I could see the cutout pattern around the controls left by a shell case on the S.S. band.
Apple is just taking advantage of people and the contracts that they have set up with the individual carriers.
Sushil2john, I am just as disappointed with Apple as you are regarding their replacement policy you might want to take that into consideration when you go to purchase your next phone, I know I will.

  • Using Aperture to create a slideshow why would it not include the captions when burnt to CD?

I am trying to burn a slideshow to CD but when I do the captions I have included are not shown. Anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong or not even doing? Any suggestions would be helpfully.

I am trying to burn a slideshow to CD but when I do the captions I have included are not shown.
How are you burning the Slideshow to CD? Are you using the "Export" button in the Slideshow view to render a video of the Slideshow, or are you exporting the images of the Slideshow using the "File > Export" command?

  • Problem two - replacing the fan on video card

I have a NVidea GeForce4 Ti video card in my G4. The fan cooling the GPU stopped spinning, although I don't know when. I ordered the identical fan on-line, thinking that it wouldn't be that hard to get the old fan off. Apparently, it isn't as easy as I thought. There are two black plastic pieces which springs connecting the fan/heatsink to the board. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to extract them.
So, then I thought about just removing the fan and leaving the original heat sink attached. I got 6 of the 7 screws out, but one's really tight. Assuming that I can eventually get that one out as well, I still need to extract the wires from the surface of the card... it appears that they are glued on in one spot.
Has anyone here tried changing the fan on this (or another) video card who might have some insights in how to proceed? Thanks in advance for your help!

I purchased my replacement fan from "Surplus Sales of Nebraska." They actually carry the fan originally installed on the card. There website is:
    www.surplussales.com
and the part number was FAN-MTHERM1027B
If you google "NV-1035-C2", it should pop right up (I get is as the first hit). They're only $6, but they have a $10 minimum order. I ended up with two fans.
I've been busy, so I haven't tried removing the fan yet. I read on the web, though, that once you remove the two black plastic pieces, you should put the video card into a freezer bag and then place it in the freezer for a few hours. Supposedly, you can then remove the fan with a twisting motion. Apparently, it's pretty easy to damage the GPU if you pull it straight off. That being said, if you can remove all of the screws on the fan, you can actually leave the heatsink in place and just replace the fan. I tried that, but I have one screw that's stuck.
Anyway, I think this is still the least of my problems. Although I haven't tried rebooting recently, I had trouble mounting a DVD today which I suspect is related to my first problem (where my hard drives don't always show up when I try to boot the computer). I'm becoming convinced that it's going to be a power supply or motherboard issue (ugh). If I get a chance to try removing the fan from the board, I'll let you know.

I want to open a folder in a separate window by clicking on it.  For some reason when I click on a folder it just replaces the one I was just in.  I want them both to be open at the same time without having to go through several steps. Old apple operating systems made it easy to have several folders open at one time.

Eric, thanks that works but seems like an extra added step also to do it that way.  I've got to move and organize a ton of files and I'm looking for a easy way to get this done.  I could also open the folder into a separate tab and then drag the tab out so it becomes an open window but thats a lot of fussing around also with extra steps.  Not sure why these newer operating system seems more confusing and less user friendly than what they used to.  In the past I could just click on any folder and it would open in a separate window making it really easy to copy or move files from one place to the other just by simply dragging them from one window to the other.  Seems like I'm going through several extra steps now to do a simple task.

Apple doesn't sell insurance. Talk to your insurance company.  The warranty does not cover accidental damage or abuse.
If you purchased AppleCare+, you can get up to 2 discounted (US$49) replacements over the course of 2 years for user inflicted damage. Sounds like that's not what you have.
As I said, talk to your insurance company.

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

    Best,

You would need to return to U.K. for warranty service. The iPhone warranty is not international.

  • I lost my filter plug ins when I install Elements 13.  If I choose one plug in in Preferences it installs it.  But if I try to choose another one it just replaces the first one.  How do I install multiple filter plug ins?

I lost my filter plug ins when I installed Elements 13, i.e. Topaz Labs, Nik.  If  choose one plugin in preferences it will add it to the filter list.  But if I try to add another filter it just replaces the first one.
How can I get my multiple plugins back?

Sorry to jump on this thread, but it seems like I have a similar problem. Oh. BTW, Happy New Year!
I have filters from Topaz, Imagenomic, ePaperPress, and Redfield. In the past when a new version of PSE came out, I just copied and pasted the folders w/ the ".8bf" files into the Plug-Ins folder of the new version. This time it didn't work.
I have been searching for a clue. I came across a confusing comment in a post from some Adobe gal [that has been linked multiple times. It said:
"Please click on Photoshop Elements in the top left corner and select 'Preferences'." The confusing thing about this is that I have no "Photoshop Elements" in the top left corner! As this is the first step, I'm stuck there...
Here is what I see in the upper-left corner:
When I click on the Elements 13 Logo, I get a small drop-down menu that has no "Preferences" option. I have versions of PSE back to 10 and none of them have "Photoshop Elements" in the top-left corner.
    BTW, I'm running Win 7 Home 64.
I noticed that PSE 13 loaded into my Program Files folder, whereas all previous versions went to my Program Files (x86) folder. That indicates that 13 is running as a 64-bit app? Does that require different plugins?

  • Would I be able to install a fresh copy of Lion on my macbook? I just replaced the harddrive and  don't want to restore my old os.

I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook. The OS on my old hard drive is  OSB Tiger and would like to install OS Lion on my new drive without having to restore the old OS and then upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to upgrade to Lion. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Without Snow Leopard you cannot purchase or download Lion, so you haven't much choice unless you wait until Apple releases their USB flash drive with Lion later this month - $69.00.

Double-click the white Adobe Reader Icon to open a new windows.
Double-Click the "Adobe Reader X Installer.pkg" file inside.
If it has already been installed it will notify you and say that it has been installed already.
If you no longer have those files go here to get the latest version of Adobe Reader.
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Let me know how that all goes and if you have any hang ups.
ON TO THE NEXT POINT OF INTEREST
It sounds to me from researching the other white 'icon' you have that you are trying to install a copier by the brand of Rico Aficio.
    Possibly the Aficio 2090/2105.
If so the install CD/Driver download for that copier must have also wanted you to install Adobe Reader to view the User Guides/ Documentation included.
If you are trying to install said device then double click the white icon labeled Ricoh_Aficio...double click the installer file inside of that.
It should run a setup/install window like Adobe Reader did then go from there. If it has already been install also you can go to your System Preferences -> Printers to see if it installed correctly and is working properly.
You can get to system preferences by clicking the Apple icon very upper left on your screen and selecting it from the drop down.

  • IPad's screen was broken. they will just replace the screen or replace the whole iPad

iPad's screen was broken. they will just replace the screen or replace the whole iPad?

Apple does not repair iPads. They will issue a replacement. But a screen does not break on its own. If you caused the damage to the device, you will have to pay for a replacement

  • When i switch users internet becomes unresponsive, also started to hear the fan when just using normally

    Hi
Had my macbook pro for nearly 9 months now and noticed a couple of odd things.
    1) When i switch from one user to another and i try to go onto the internet i get a page is unresponsive message.
    2) I've started to hear the fan when the computer is just doing normal activities like surfing the net etc
I have googled and cant find anything similer, any ideas?

4,000 RPM for idle load seems excessive, 2,000 is usually the norm.
There could be various reasons for this:
1: Dead sensor or fan, the other is compensating. - #3 Hardware Test needed.
    2: Need a SMC reset - #1 SMC Reset.
3: You installed something that has a background process and hogging CPU cycles.
Open Activity Monitor > All Processes and click on the CPU to sort the highest to the top and see if something unusual is hogging cycles.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
    Other possible reasons:
5: You have done something to place excessive and sudden demand on the processors at one time, thus the software is trying to anticipate that and pre-emypt your behavior and run the fans at a higher speeds in advance.
6: Your machine is in a excessively hot environment
7: Your machine is in a excessively dusty or animal environment and the exhaust ports are clogged with animal hair/lint., will require cleaning by Apple if still under AppleCare/warranty.
8: There is malware on your machine, or your third party software is no functioning correctly leaving processes running.
9: OS X needs to be reinstall on the machine. #8 Reinstall Just OS X
10: You have a corrupted cache file. #12 OnyX cache cleaning routine.
11: You have a 13" MBP and have been trying to 3D game on it, didn't wait for it to cool down.

  • Why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice

why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice

This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.
    regards
