Why would wi-fi not turn on, 4s
My iPhone 4s will not let me turn on Wi-Fi and I have a few apps which will not open either. I have 2 sky sports apps and 1 will open but the other won't. BBC iPlayer won't open either but other things will. No problem with calls or texts, itunes, BBC sport, youtube or safari.

As a web desginer since 2003, I can tell you that these days, it's a terrible idea to have Flash content in a website (outside of games that require it). Video should be HTML5. Navigation, content and other links should be HTML, CSS and/or Javascript ONLY, because placing them in a Flash container makes them invisible to literally half of your viewers or more, since SmartPhones can't and don't see Flash, and tablets don't either without special browsers, which may or may not work with embedded links. -

Some albums include songs from multiple artists. Because of this iTunes may display them as separate album as shown below:
You can mark these songs as a compilation in iTunes. In iTunes 8 and later, you find the option to mark multiple items as "Part of a compilation" in the Options tab of the Multiple Item Information window.
To do this in iTunes 7, select all the songs that you want to be included in the compilation and select Get Info from the file menu and select Yes in the Compilation menu as shown below. After clicking OK iTunes will group all the selected songs together.

Why would a movie not be viewable on .Mac if I limit access to a user?
I'm trying to post a iMovie to my .Mac and make it viewable by a certain user and password as opposed to viewable by anyone.
The movie, per iMovie, indicates that it is published to .Mac yet when I try and view it my browser (Safari) just keeps saying "loading".
Yet when I post the movie and set it Viewable by everyone - it works no issues.
Why would there be an issue when I limit who it is viewable by?
Thanks for any insight and assistance.SOLUTION: Added a partition on the harddisk via disc utility (leopard install dvd), and installed leopard on the new partition (use same user name as on old partition if your trying to obtain files on old partition in your user folder - it might make a difference I'm not sure just did it as a precaution) after booting go back and access the files from the old partition. The old partition will show up on desktop when you login to the new partition, copy those suckers(files) over to a external or media source.
Finally if you cant figure the next step out you could completely reformat your whole harddisk install leopard over, and copy the files back over from the external, if your copying library files (applications), i doubt they will work the same on the complete HD reformat.

If this seems like all too much work for you, maybe someone else has a easier method, because the thought of installing leopard just to recover files is quite time consuming, but it worked in the end so it doesn't matter for me. -
Why would a URL not be formatted as a clickable link?
I run a service that sends A2P SMS messages that provide a link to weekly content. This week, a user reported to me that the URL was displayed but it was not a clickable link. AFAIK, there was no difference in the message except the exact link. I've attached a screenshot the user provided me.
Why would this be the case?

You need to ask in the Flash Professional forum.
Or, the users may not be able to see the Flash Container.
Considering the number of users these days on SmartPhones, who can't access Flash content, the worst thing you can possibly do for navigation and links is to put them in a Flash container and render them invisible to such a larg portion of your visitors. -
Why would Safari 6 not cache certain cacheable resources?
In our web application, which uses GWT, we have many Javascript resources. In the case of the GWT module's Javascript, the resource is 790kB (226kB gzipped). All the other Javascript and stylesheet resources are cached, but Safari 6 doesn't cache this one for some reason. Some points that may be important:
- Our server sends this javascript gzipped, and the response does include the header
Cache-Control: public,max-age=31536000
and I can see this response header, along with a confirmation that this resource is not cached, using the Safari developer extensions.
- The URL has a .html extension, as is the pattern with GWT applications (it has to do with bootstrapping the module). I don't know if this is relevant, but it is the only difference I could identify between this resource versus others that are cached.
- This is happening with Safari 6 on Mac OS 10.8.*. Chrome and Firefox on Mac, as well as the IE versions on Windows that we've tested do cache this javascript resource.
- In my particular Safari environment, there are no extensions installed or enabled, and caching is definitely not disabled (and as I mentioned, all the other static resources that have the same Cache-Control header are cached as expected).
Has anyone else experienced an issue like this with a GWT web application or otherwise? Is the .html extension the the cause of issue? If so, why would Safari care about the content type of the resource when it comes to whether or not to cache it, as long as the appropriate HTTP response headers are set? And why would it behave differently from other browsers?

Why would Shape Builder not allow Selecting (for a join)?
(As background . . . I ran through Terry White's excellent "10 things" for Illustrator video. I even built the Yin-Yang symbol myself, from scratch, after watching his video. So "I have" succeeded at least once in using Shape Builder.)
But, when I attempt to do . . . pretty much anything of my own design . . . I get stuck within the first minute and just have to quit and walk away. I appologize in advance if anything sounds bad . . . I'm FULLY MAXED OUT on both anger and frustration. Its just inconsolably frustrating how easy it is to get into a "mode" that . . . won't let you go any further.
Imagine drawing a cross. (Like if you took real 4" x 4"'s and made a physical one, and then traced the outline around that.)
I thought I'd draw one long vertical rectangle.
Then draw an overlapping shorter horizontal rectangle.
Then join the two together in Shape Builder so its one "bounded box" with no interior "crossing lines" in the central join.
I drew the two rectangles. Even got them centered vertically using the align button.
I select the Shape Builder and . . . . am immediately hopelessly stuck in one of two modes that won't let me continue further.
#1 (From a fresh "web" document) . . . I hover over the vertical beam (cross hatch appears, and the "+" appears because I'm in Shape Builder Add mode) and . . . cross hatch won't appear as I drag over the horizontal crossbeam.
Or . . . click (and hold) on the crossbeam . . . same thing . . . cross hatch appears, the "+" is there and . . . as I drag to the vertical beam to join . . . it won't go to crosshatch.
Or . . .
#2 (When I was originally trying to add this as part of a larger board) . . . I drew the same two rectangles, then upon choosing Shape Builder . . . I get an Arrow and a Circle with a Slash through it and am not allowed to select anything.
And can't find any sign, in any panel, of any "mode" I'm in (or not in) that would account for why selection is blocked.
I wasn't on the wrong layer (there is only one).
I've tried it (#1) from a new fresh drawing, and (#2) from inside a larger drawing (where I actually need it).
It takes less than 30 seconds from start to . . . . hopelessly blocked from proceeding.
Why wouldn't Shape Builder allow two pieces to join?

Only returns the 2008R2 instances on my machine not the sql 2012 instances.
Oddly the ServerInstances includes all the instances.
This means I can't get the StartupParameters for the instance.
I've checked and its definitely using the sql 2012 version of SMO. All services are using the same user account (Network Service)
Can anyone think why this would be.

For SMO assemblies : the version is 11 for SQL Server 2012 , and 10 for SQL Server 2008 R2 ( and not 10.5 , so when you have SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 , the SMO assemblies for 2008 are replaced by the SMO assemblies for 2008 R2 ). I faced this
problem when I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 aside a left 2008 install.
On my current computer , I have only 2012 and 2014 instances and I have no problem.
To check the version of the assemblies ( Microsoft.Smo.SqlWmiManagement mainly ) in your Visual Studio , click on the name of this assembly and look at the Version : it should be 11.0.0 ( for SQL Server 2012 ).

CommonCls.AppWriteLog is only a method which has 2 parameters , the 2nd one is the string to write in a application log , the 1st if true , the current datetime is written before the content of the 1st parameter. It is useful to simulate a hardcopy of the screen
, especially when the application is a console one.
I have not tested to write the startup parameters but it was working in a previous application
As you can see , I have 3 instances , 1 SQL Server 2012 and 2 SQL Server 2014 ( but one is "ill" it's why the startup of the SQL Server service is disabled , it will be repaired when I will reinstall W7 or install W8 )
I don't see any reason why you are not seen the 2012 instances except if the version of your assembly is 10 instead 11 ( a little tip :when you are adding a reference , in the box after a browse , you are sorting the names of the
assemblies in the selection box , as the assemblies 2008/2008 R2 are appearing before the assemblies 2012 , it' minimizing the risk of confusion of assemblies and try to increase the visibility of the full path by double-clicking the title of the Path
column , if you don't do that , you should not see the version number included in the path name ).

Daughter had to get new iPhone why would we now not see each others text messages?
My daughters iPhone 4S was permantly damaged by update 2 weeks ago. Apple sent her a new phone. Now I can't see her texts and mine to her are shiwingbup in squares that look mor like code than words or she does not get them at all
He new phone was setup , according to her, using cloud by her husband.she says she has no problem with texting anybody but me
The exception is when she texted me 2 times while in the car, we had a whole conversation by text without a problem. But from home or work the problem described exists I should say I have never had a problem texting anybody but her, and only since she got the new iPhone
Any ideas as to why this would be, are appreciated help?Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure only the phone number is checked.
The best way to resolve this is to not share Apple IDs but the steps above will resolve the duplicate iMessage issues. -
Why would new battery not charge?
I have an iPhone 5 with a 1 year history of good behavior. I recently transferred my Sony-manufactured battery (date code=08/2014) to my daughter's iPhone 5 so that she could make an outbound airplane flight with a functioning phone.
There was evidence that daughter's battery had died, not been subjected to a bad or uncertified charger. It would not charge on my known good chargers. Her Lightning port was not full of lint. After I transferred my good battery to her phone, her phone worked fine and she was on her way.
I discarded her suspect battery and installed a new one in my phone. Acquired from a well known supplier of batteries, t was a Sony-manufactured battery with a date code nearly identical to mine. My phone booted up fine and showed 45% cell charge. As the hours passed, the state of charge gauge indicated showed a battery of normal endurance.
However, at the end of the day this new battery will not accept a charge in my phone.
I am using the same known good chargers that I used previously. I am an experienced iPhone disassembler. My Lightning port is not "linted-up". I admit that Apple's fine-pitch PCB connectors are a challenge even for experienced disassemblers but I believe that this battery transplant went OK.
Any ideas?

So, to clarify, you've opened up the iPhone, and replaced the battery yourself?
Are you an Apple Authorized Service Technician?
Apple doe snot supply batteries to third-parties. Any iPhone battery you acquired is either:
A) Counterfeit
B) Stolen
C) Salvaged from another unit.
Additionally, unless you are an AAST and were using an Apple-supplied battery, your device warranty and support is permanently voided. -
Why will my screen not turn back on after powering down iPhone?
When my AT> 64gb iPhone 4s turns off, or dies, for some reason when I try to turn it back on, the phone itself turns on but the screen doesnt. Sometimes the screen will be a bright white, sometimes it will appear as if the LCD is cracked, and sometimes its just straight black. Eventually (like up to 12-15 hours later), I somehow manage to get it turned back on like regular, and it works fine (however occasionally, there is a white circle that surrounds the middle of the screen. Anyone have any clue whats going on with it? I'd just get the LCD replaced, but it only doesn't work when the phone turns off and back on, so i don't know if that would help at all.

Why would menu items not display?
I am trying to troubleshoot an issue a user is having with Bridge CS3. Several selections from his "Tools" menu have disappeard (not grey'd out, but actually missing). The one he's specifically looking for is the InDesign Contact Sheet command. He used to have them and now they are gone. I've compared my preferences with his and they are identical. He's running Tiger and I'm on Leopard.
Here's another odd thing. My version is 2.1.1.9 and his is 2.1.0.100. Yet when I run Software updates and the Adobe updater on his computer, it reports back that everything is up-to-date. Even though our versions are different, as well as a different OSs, this doesn't explain why he used to have it and no longer does.

The InDesign menu item comes from a script loading at launch. You can look in the preferences> Startup Scripts and see if it is present but disabled. -
Why would my ipad not remember a password to a network?
I just got my new ipad about 2 weeks ago and I really love it. BUT, it does not remember any previous password. As soon as I am out of range and come back, I have to connect all over again to the router and put in the password. Any ideas??
1. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again
2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
