Why wouldn't any media player play my iMovie?

I created an iMovie and then shared it as a file. I saved that file on my dropbox as it was a public computer and then deleted the file off that computer. Now when I am trying to play that movie, it won't play in any media player or iMovie itself. What should I do?

There is not much you can do unless you made a backup of the original movie/ project or made a full export of the project.
iMovie can export in several formats and some older versions could create 'reference movies' that were small in size & quick to export but that was because they referenced other files (linked to them) so when the original files are deleted the reference movie breaks.
I don't know if that is what happened here but it might be. You can only try playing the file you have in apps like VLC or Quicktime Player 7.
QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
videolan.org
Both support more formats than the standard Quicktime X. If the file is very small it may just be a reference movie. See if either of those apps give you a clear error.

  • Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3?

    Hi All
Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3? I got an exception that 'Decoder is not available' when I played m4a file on windows xp sp3(it didn't work on vista either), but it works fine on windows 7 , so I guess Javafx media player needs some system dependencies or resources when it plays media files, do you have any suggestions for this ?

To allow playback on Windows XP, you need to install the correct software in addition to JavaFX.
Once the system has been upgraded to meet the minimum requirements for playback of a particular type of video encoding, then playback should work fine.
See the JavaFX Media portion of the JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-2/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-2.htm
Note, m4a is just a container file and data streams inside the container format need to match a supported JavaFX format for playback to work:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/media/package-summary.html
    Some approaches you could take:
    - additionally encode the media in VP6 format and fallback to VP6 playback if H.264 playback fails.
    - use a 3rd party player like VLC.
    - don't bother supporting Windows XP video playback.
    - direct a browser to a divx install page if playback fails (http://www.divx.com/).

  • Windows 7 freezes / hangs when playing video or audio on any media player

I've had this issue since installing Windows 7 (32 bit) over 2 months ago and have been actively seeking a fix for the majority of those two months. In windows XP pro (32 bit), I had no issues whatsoever. The problem manifests itself as a complete hang of all system functions and inability to interact with my computer aside from moving the pointer around.
This only occurs when I am playing some sort of media (mp3, avi, mp4, mkv, etc) on any media player that I had installed at the current time of testing (WMP12, VLC, Realplayer). The initial response is a hang of the system which then can become a freeze if I click around too much during the hang. After approximately 3-5 minutes the problem is alleviated and the system plays catchup with the video/audio sync.
Below is a complete rundown on my system and fixes floating from other threads that I have attempted.
    My System Spec:
Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit) Version 6.1 Build 7600
    Motherboard: Gigabyte Ds4-X48 Crossfire Ready
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256Bit DDR5
    CPU: E8500 Wolfdale (3.16) Core2Duo
    Ram: 4GB ( 2x 2GB OCZ Reapers @ PC8500 1066MHZ )
    PSU: 600W OCZ GameXStream
    HDD - Primary - 1.5TB Seagate
    HDD - STORAGE - 1.5TB Seagate + 500GB Western Digital
    Audio - Integrated Realtek
Drive Bays: SATA Combo Drive (Samsung) + IDE Lightscribe DVD-MultiRecorder RW
As you can see, my system is more than capable of running Windows 7 and probably just as qualified to captain a space shuttle.
Things I have tried to no avail
    - Changing the Power Plan
    - Adjusting the overclock of my GPU to factory defaults
    - disabling Media Player Network Sharing in services.msc
    - Only having WMP12 installed
    - Shark007 Codec Pack
    -Not having Shark007 Codec Pack
    - Undergrading WMP12 to WMP11
    - CLEAN BOOT - Freezes/hangs still occured regardless.
    - Registry optimization and cleaning
    - Playing video after fresh install still causes freezes
    - SQMClient/MachineThrottling IS NOT THERE TO BE DISABLED OR DELETED
    - Adjusting RAM timing, frequency and voltage in BIOS
    - Use Display driver provided by Windows Update for ATI Radeon HD 4870
    - Tested several other Catalyst and Display drivers
    - Updated Chipset , Audio Driver, Network Driver
    - Clean installed 4+ times ( I clean installed inbetween all of the previous attempts listed above)
    - Uninstalling programs such as AIM, MSN Messenger, Adobe products, Daemon Tools Lite, Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
-My computer is not eligible for the Intel Matrix Storage update
    -Disabling aero
I am now starting to suspect maybe Company of Heroes may be an issue as it is Divx endorsed.
I froze once while typing this up due to wmp12 playing a mp4 music video in the background.
Can anyone recommend a good skin and theme that will make Windows XP look like 7? I'm starting to think that it's my only solution.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your posting.
As for this system freezing issue, we generally need to analyze the performance monitor logs and memory dump files to locate the root cause. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum because of the nature of forum support. A support call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service. I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS
If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.
Having said that, I'd still like to provide the following general troubleshooting steps to see if we can eliminate this problem:
Note: Please perform a complete system backup first. If any unexpected issue occurs, we can quickly restore the system to the current status.
    1.    Scan your system to make sure that the system is virus free. Temporarily disable your anti-virus software to see if this problem is gone.
    2.    If you have recently installed any software, hardware or drivers, please remove them.
    3.    Run Process Explorer to check which processes are using a lot of memories or cause high CPU utilization:
    Process Explorer
    4.    If the process is a service, you can use these steps to find out what applications are using most of the CPU: Open Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, look for the process that is using the CPU and note its PID (Process ID). Note that you may need to go to the View/Select Columns menu and make sure that PID (Process Identifier) is checked.
Once you have the PID run the following from a command prompt:
    tasklist /svc
This should give you the application associated with the PID you identified in the previous step.
However, if the issue still persists, please contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for further troubleshooting. I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thanks!

  • .3g2 files won't play in any media player

    Hello.
Ever since we updated to OS X Mavericks, any old .3g2 files won't play in any media player on our iMac. When we go to play them, they play button in QuickTime just flashes from pause to play and then back to pause and and nothing happens. I'm not sure if this file type is becoming outdated and therefore is not compatible with the new OS X, but I am just curious if anyone knows if there is a way to fix this.
    Thanks.

    Did you try VLC?

        Hi Rohit ,
I had copied these .class & .xml files under Myclasses -> oracle.apps.icx and oracle.apps.po and oracle.apps.fnd was same which comes part of the standard OA tutorial.
I copied same under Myprojects as well.
you have to decompile the class file into java file and then place it in Myproject directory , also copy all dependency files like BC4J components , and then
try to run from Jdeveloper .
Alternatively you can get the entire ICX folder and zip it and add it via library .

  • HT1391 Music that is on my computer and iPhone will not play using any media player

Media (songs) that are listed in iTunes and on the iPhone will not play.  The cursor skips over them.  Using Explorer I can see them on the disc, but clicking them and trying to play them with Quicktime, Windows Media Player or iTunes does not work.
Does anybody know what I can do to fix this?

Check the information on the song, Right-Click -> Get Info.
In the fist pane, (Summary), you will see the AppleId (Account Name) that was used to buy the song.
Be sure to login to use this account to register this computer to play the song
What I often see, Is that people have many different AppleID, sometime not even knowing it, which is a big problem.

  • H.264 Blu-Ray rendered .m4v files won't playback in any media player except Adobe software

Hello guys and thank you in advance for your help. I am going to pull my hair out!
I had to reinstall Windows 7 and am experiencing an issue that is driving me crazy. All of my 720p H.264 Blu-Ray.m4v files rendered with After Effects will not play in any player I try in Windows. I've tried Windows Media Player, VLC, and Media Player Classic. I've tried with a clean install and no other codecs except those included with Windows 7. I've tried installing additional h.264 codecs. I've tried installing ffdshow and other codecs as well and no matter what I do, the files will not play at all.
The only way I can preview the file it to load it in AE or Encore or something similiar. Unfortunately, this is not the best solution for me. I'd love to be able to preview the files quickly and efficiently through Windows Explorer / Media Player without opening Adobe software. I don't think that's too much to ask.
Another issue is that before I reinstalled Windows that these files played back just fine in Windows Media Player! I don't know why it was working and now it's not on a clean install. All of the hardware is the same. On the original working install, I don't recall installing any additional codec packs or anything. It just worked...
Regular .mp4 H.264 files (not Blu-Ray) play just fine in all players. Something the Blu-Ray spec is doing to the file causes it to not work. And changing the extension to mp4 does nothing.
Please tell me what I am doing wrong! Is it something with the Mainconcept codec? Is it something with my drivers? What am I missing?!?

Thanks for the suggesstion Mylenium, but that didn't help either.
I installed PowerDVD which came with the Blu-Ray drive, and also a trial of ArcSoft's Blu-Ray player, and neither would play the files.
Any other suggestions? This is killing me. I don't understand why they would play before and not now. The files arne't corrupt. Even new rendered outputs in the same preset won't play. They'll load into Encore just fine though and even are listed as "Don't Transcode", so I know the files themselves are okay.
Could it have anything to do with drivers? I was testing an Nvidia video card with my last build and now I'm just using a Sandy Bridge chip with Intel's on-board video. But I do remember even when I took the Nvidia card out and just ran on-board video the last time, the files still played fine...

  • Advice on how to make Windows Media Player play DVD's not the Tosh player

I do not want to use the pre-installed Toshiba Media Player to play DVD's, I want to use the installed Windows Media Player. I cannot change the default DVD player to WMP in Control Panel as the only options are either Toshiba's or Nero's player.
WMP can play CD's, MP3's etc but cannot even read any DVD in the drive. Anyone got any advice on how to do change this?
It;s a Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 with Windows 8 installed

The free KLite Codec pack which equips the OS including Media Player for DVD decoding, thus all your currently and even most future installed players. http://codecguide.com/
It comes in varying sizes but even the smallest version enables WMP for DVD's
After installing KLite, you right click the DVD drive within Windows and select the "Open With" or "Play Disc" menu option and select Windows Media Player.
You can also just use the Windows Run Box / Search box and enter
    dvdplay
which activates windows Media Player DVD menus.
Microsoft hasn't always included DVD playback in Windows and then started offered it as a fee based upgrade for XP and Vista, before finally including DVD playback in Windows 7 in what some Microsoft insiders said was an apology for Vista before removing it again in Windows 8.

  • Tracks ripped with EAC Play alphabetically, when ripped with Media Player Play in the correct or

I just got my new zen touch. I downloaded the new firmware update and it seems to be working great.
The only problem is that when I add music that I've ripped with Exact Audio Copy c/ Lame Encoder to MP3, The tracks don't play in the correct order on my Zen Touch.
When I add an album ripped with Microsoft Media Player, it plays them in the correct order.
I think that the ID3 tags have all the appropriate info becuase when I hold my curser (on the computer) over the eac ripped tracks, the pop up menu list the track #, artist name and song title etc.
I've read the FAQ and it doesn't matter if I select Album-Play, Artist-Album-Play. I've tried all combos.
Anybody with experience using EAC? I've looked in the settings and I can't find anything wrong.
Is it possible that EAC is using and ID3 Format that my computer recognizes but my zen touch doesnt.
But Media Player uses an ID3 format that it does recognize.
Also, The album ripped with media player was ripped to WMA. While all the tracks ripped with EAC that are giving me trouble were ripped to MP3.

What software are you using to copy? Make sure both that and the drivers are completely up-to-date.

  • Media Player plays, but screen really small and won't play in IE

I have created a website and want to place video on it, with working controls for visitors. Wanting visitors to view the video in regular screen size and full screen on their demand.
I have been able to get the video to work on firefox, but the screen appears small inside the media player, and it will not work in IE. What am I doing wrong? I will like to add many more videos to my website, once I find out what my problem is. Can somebody help me?
    http://www.waywepraise.com

Are you using the windows media player plugin? The video did not load at all for me and I'm using firefox.
You could also use the plug in tool. I find that quicktime works better for me than windows media for some reason. If you would like to see a few of my videos to give you an idea go to www.memorabledvd.com and check out the site.
If the video appears small, it might not be formatted right. If your video editor allows you to output the video to a different size ie. 500x500 or something like that, play with the settings. Remember though, the bigger the picture, the larger the file, the longer the person needs to wait to view it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot play any media nor play my timeline in Pr CC 2014

    I have a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 running OSX 10.9.4 with Premiere CC 2014 8.0.1 (21) Build.
It seems to be working ok unless I want to playback my timeline or playback any media.
It works for the 1st few seconds of opening a project and then will not respond.
Also, Pr CC 2014 crashes every single time I shut it down.
Any ideas! I am in a serious time crunch and need this to work yesterday.
    Thanks,

A number of customers have reported somewhat similar problems on Mac that resulted from permissions on 10.9.4 getting set to read-only after updating OS X.  Please see Post #14 in this thread: Re: Premier Pro 2014 is very sluggish

If I try to play a CD with WMP. Real Player, etc while using my Guitarport, the sound pops, beeps, or drops out altogether. Is there any way to fix this? I'm using an Audigy SE card with a Win XP system.
Guitarport works fine regardless of whether something else is playing. My media players also work fine as long as Guitarport isn't running.

As the GuitarPort is an audio interface too, you have 2 of them working at same time. This may cause the issues you are having. Also, if you are outputting from WMP (etc.) into GuitarPort and same time playing guitar -> is your USB speed capable for it's
Have you set the preferred audio devices on Windows Audio -settings (try w/ setting the Audigy or GuitarPort as preferred device and tried w/ selecting the "use preferred devices only").
Are you using ASIO drivers w/ GuitarPort? Does it's sound have issues too (or is it only WMP, etc. having them)?
Have you tried if increasing the output/playback buffer (WMP, etc.) helps (if there is sucha setting)? Also, which device are you using on WMP (Options->Devices>Speakers->Properties --> (select Audigy), etc. w/ other player(s)).

  • 24-Bit, 96kHz Microsoft PCM WAVs result in no audio in any media player

    Hi guys,
I have some downmixes saved by other progarms as 24-Bit 96kHz Stereo WAV files that play fine in all media players. However, when I save these or any other upconverted 16-bit files in Audition 3.0 as "Microsoft PCM WAV" (24-Bit, 96kHz, Stereo), they do not play in any of my media players. The file appears to be playing but there is no sound. The only differences I can see in the file attributes are that there is a new "Audio Format" attribute whose value is "PCM" - this attribute does not exist on the other (working) files. However, if I save the file as a "32-Bit float" Microsoft PCM WAV in Audition, they play fine! Here is an image to explain:
    http://www.aotplaza.com/Files/Audition%20Problem.PNG
I would think that it is a codec problem but I didn't think WAV files required third party codecs in Windows XP? Any ideas?

Never mind, I realised that the problem lies in the WAV format used. According to some websites I have visited, high resolution and/or surround sound WAV files can only be played back natively if they are in WAVE EXTENSIBLE format and the files I was saving were in PCM format. I solved this by setting ffdshow to handle all WAV files using DirectShow instead and the files now play back fine. :)
Out of curiosity, I see no WAVEX save format in Audition although it exists in Audacity (an open source audio editor) - is there a way to save WAV files in this format?
