Why wouldn't PSE 4 load styles without disk?

Suddenly, my Photoshop Elements 4.0.1 would not load "styles" without the disk! Searching the forum, I only saw PSE 6 having this problem and you fixed it by trashing Mediadatabase.db3. Well, in my flavor, there is no db3 file, just a "cache.dat" file. Tried the plist file, but pas de difference. Is something corrupted here? Your mind on this would be appreciated.

Phew! I was beginning to get worried there! ; ) Thanks for the redirect, but your gut feeling about Camera Raw 4.6 working for PSE 4 might have been misplaced. I believe PSE 6 made the leap to Universal Binary whereas PSE 4 was still running on Rosetta. Working with 4.3, my PSE still ground down and quit after a few batch processes like 4.6 did. I found that my CPU was getting bogged down with two browsers that were open. Seems to be running fine, now. I'll try it with the 4.6, again, to see if more CPU will do the trick with it, too. I still wonder about the Rosetta/Universal paradigm, tho.

Do you have a smaller capacity micro SD card to try? I seem to remember from past posts that users were having problems with cards larger than 32GB, however, Apple's page doesn't mention this.

Why wouldn't ReadyBoost be enabled in Server 2008 R2?

If Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 are from a common code base, why wouldn't ReadyBoost be enabled in Windows Server 2008 R2?
Is it because MS believes we all have our servers are overloaded with memory? I was able to build my server with 4gb of memory, but now it has 12gb, which is more than it's currently using. Still, when the server starts paging memory, wouldn't
ReadyBoost help performance?

Readyboost is NOT an alternative to RAM. The purpose of readyboost is to speed up boot times by storing small OS files in flash memory which has an insignificant seek time being solid state, unlike mechanical hard disks. RAM is faster but as it's volatile
you can't boot from it. The swap file is an alternative to RAM but significantly slower.

I hate to revive such an old thread, but there's a lot of misinformation out there about ReadyBoost. It's been a while since I've done serious research on the subject, but I'll throw a few things out there for future readers to consider if they come to this
predicament.
ReadyBoost stores data that is prioritized by system services into encrypted sections of high-speed (low access times) media as a second location to pull data from (though I don't believe it can pull a given set of data from both the internal hard drive
and ReadyBoost -- the operating system picks one as needed). For this purpose, even a USB 2.0 drive that has lower total throughput than your spinning disk can be used for a substantial impact on performance. It commonly makes a huge difference in systems
that don't have a large volume of memory.
ReadyBoost does not help with boot times. Before the system has loaded the services it uses, the USB drive is not recognized for reading data by the operating system. Also, the information on the flash drive is encrypted in a session that is wiped out on
boot. There's no way for the OS to pull useful information from the drive to speed up the boot process.
The short of it: ReadyBoost is considered a consumer-grade, not server-grade, technology, so it is not available in server operating systems. It is used to help some machines that are below their optimal volume of system memory stay reasonably productive
with a relatively small investment. Users will commonly see some time period of slow performance after boot 'till the cache is rebuilt. It does not help boot times at all.

Unable to load style(SWF is not a loadable module)

While devoloping an App voor iOS we decided to use several StyleSheets.
We are implementing the loading of Stylesheets as:

running the app on the desktop simulators work fine.
packaging the app with package method fast, and running the app on an iphone4 works fine.
packaging the app with package method standaard, and running the app on an iphone4 gives an error:
Unable to load style(SWF is not a loadable module): assets/styles/default.swf.
Is there something im missing? Why does it work when packaging as Fast, and not as Standard?

        The source file is .swf ie(.css is converted to .swf).
         Main swf is running from local.
         Style module is from server.
I set security domain. But it throws security sanbox violation.
What should i do. Even some time if a use the local url means it thorws the same error Unable to load style(SWF is not a loadable module).

Can someone explain why upgrading to PSE 12 resulted in two kinds of people tags? One is the new Group tag (with its own two-person icon) and the other tag is the original People tag (one perswon silhouette icon) from previous version. If person already had been tagged the new People Group will not work. Anyone else having a problem or has found a solution?

PC Suite 7 - Loading Style Failed - Clean Vista ma...

I work at a company that migrates from windows XP to Vista , we are trying to deploy PC Suite on a clean vista machine , and we tried on several machines. but the application straight downloaded from nokia.com/pcsuite starts with an error. its shows a little popup box telling "loading style failed" some how the gui doesnt start up.
on 5 machines the same error pops up but on 1 machine afther a new ghost has been placed on it) it did start up but the gui was completely messed up (small letters , or no letters, size of the gui was wrong so buttons where shown half). then exiting the application trough right click on the tray icon of PCSync it came with the same error starting it up the next time.
Fun thing is that all the applications work fine, when we start the executables, as example
C:\Program Files\Nokia\PC Suite 7\contentcopier.exe
C:\Program Files\Nokia\PC Suite 7\videomanager.exe
and so on.
But the PCSuite.exe wont load. (and the get connected(.exe) wizard also switches back to Pcsuite.exe when exiting
I tried with several profiles and also machine configurations. compatibility mode, run as administrator and so on..and so on.. but sofar no luck.
i think it might be a policy or other (3rd party software) interference on our end. but i have no clue where to start looking.
Some help would be greatly apreciated.

i just downloaded as suggested the latetst version of Ovi Suite, are you shure its not still in beta testing ?, cause this final release that i downloaded starts up with a Portugese-Brazillian interface & licence agreement. then it wants to check for updates wich i allowed to do (ofcourse we want the latest version)

I had a program running in the back that recorded everything the application does so lets see what it actually did ... extracted/downloaded several files to %appdata%\OviInstallerCache including 2 of the 3 Prerequirements (being windows components).
but what amazed me more is that this application is build on the *old* components of Pc Suite 7 what didnt work in the first place under vista (even tho these are loose components) And nokia made it even harder to deploy this software using microsoft installer technologie .. instead of making 1 Msi file to be installed.. they now have a total of 9 MSI files whilest PC suite 7 had 4..

Why wouldn't "sudo reboot" work?

This morning, as usual, I put my PowerBook to sleep at 8:29am, disconnected the power cord, unplugged the display and networking cables, and brought my PB to work, connecting it to the ethernet network and opening the lid. The display didn't turn on. I was able to ssh in via my trusty iPhone, and I typed "sudo reboot." The weird thing is that my PB didn't reboot (perhaps it just shut down?) See below at 9:10:49. Finally, at 9:13, I held the power key down to shut down.
Does that give any insight into what might be happening? Why wouldn't a reboot work?

Have you tried booting holding the "s" key for Single User Mode? If it works at the prompt type, *fsck -fy* and press "return" it should do a disk repair. When that is finished press return again, then type reboot press return to get back to the Mac the way you know it.
Do you have a backup you can try booting from? Another option is to use another Mac in Firewire target disk mode, so you can copy data from it.
If you can get to your system, one way or the other, your log file indicates an issue with /Library/Startup Items, so the first troubleshooting step I'd take after fsck would be removing that folder to your desktop. It is usually empty by default so any items within you put there.

How can I force a paragraph style without losing italic?

This has been annoying me for ages. I work on documents in Word, applying italic to book titles etc, and then import into indesign. I apply a paragraph style and three times out of four the bits of italic are preserved. However, the fourth time the paragraph style doesn't take (probably because of the presence of italic) and I have to force it to do so by using Alt-click. Invariably the italic is then replaced by roman.
It's happening just now with a whole lot of footnotes and endnotes in a book I'm working on and means I have to go back through them all, manually applying italic to my book titles and references. Is there any way to force an endnote/footnote paragraph style without losing the italic text?

I'm not sure that forward planning is so necessary here.
If your only concern is losing italics when importing from Word, create,
in InDesign, an italic character style. Then do a search and replace
throughout the InDesign document (after you've placed the Word file)
searching for italics formatting, and replacing with your italics
character style.
That will prevent you from losing your italics formatting.
Repeat for bold, bold italics, superscript, subscript, and anything else
the author uses.
There are some scripts that help in this process (I think one of them is
called "preptext", by Jongware).

formatting override and creates and applies the appropriate character
style, check out my "Create Character Styles from Overrides" script,

Same problem here. I ran into this problem after I installed 3.2.5 with the new 4.2BetaSDK. I had 4.1 on my phone when the problem arose but I then installed the 4.2 beta and now the beta 2 and I still cannot debug on my phone.

Why is the Pages paragraph styles list incomplete?

I created a new document and selected the 'Note Taking' template. The default document says 'Subject' in a line under 'Title'. The 'Subject' line is shown to have a paragraph style called 'Heading 3'. But when I click on the drop-down list of paragraph styles, I see no such option.
Why is there a paragraph style that is not listed?
I am using Mavericks and Pages 5.2.

Why MBP heats when working in target disk mode?

I connect my MBP to iMac using target disk mode through Thunderbolt interface, close the lid and work on iMac booted from MBP's disk. My understanding is that in this mode MBP should consume very little energy because CPU and GPU are mostly inactive. But I can feel that MBP actually heats up considerably. It not critically hot, but still hotter than I would expect. Can someone explain why this happens?

For FireWire Target Disk Mode, if there are two drives connected to the same IDE bus, I believe only the one that is set as Master is accessible from the "other" computer. So it's possible that your optical drive is Master and hard drive is Slave, in your config.
Copying the files to the external drive, while the iMac G4 is still bootable, was a good move.
Once the data is safe, you might try the following (assuming you are able to continue starting up that iMac). Download a cloning utility, such as Carbon Copy Cloner

Clone the internal drive volume to a FireWire external drive volume. Set System Preferences Startup Disk pane to start up from the clone on the FireWire drive, and try to start up from the clone. While started up from the FireWire drive, you can run Disk Utility on the internal drive. Maybe you can do a Repair Disk successfully.
You can also use Disk Utility to completely erase the internal drive. Be sure to select the internal DRIVE (not the volume indented under the drive) in the sidebar, then go to the Erase tab. Doing an erase in this way will re-partition and reformat the hard drive. That may get rid of your data corruption problem.
Then, clone the clone back to the internal drive, and try to start up from it. If there was an underlying hardware problem on the hard drive, this will not fix it. But if it was just data corruption at the volume level, that iMac G4 may still have some life left.

Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk? I'm trying to help my father get online to read the newspaper using an iMac G5 1.8 GHz 17". I've installed a new hard drive and reinstalled software and rus software updates until I've reached 10.4.11 and the lovely "your software is up to date" message. When I put in the Leopard 10.5.1 Install DVD, it auto ejects within 15 seconds and never gets mounted and never shows on desktop. When I place the same DVD in my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, the disk mounts and the install window opens as usual. Any suggestions on what i'm missing here? thanks
