Why?  xbox live doesn't connect to Airport Extreme wireless network

Xbox live wireless adapter is not connecting to my wireless network. xBox live support said to change to WEP security (does not support WPA security). Tried this but it doesn't work either. I can't find any information on Apple support or xBox live support that confirms whether or not the router is even compatible with xbox live. Does anyone know or have experience with this?

Go to your computer and run the Airport Utility. Click on the Manual Setup button. In the tabs you'll see Summary, Base Station, Wireless, etc. Select Wireless. Look about 1/2 way down and you'll see Wireless Security. Click on the popup button and select None. At the bottom of the window click on Update. You'll go offline momentarily as the base station is updated. Now go back to your XBox and connect. Now download all the updates you can.
Once this is finished, go back to the base station and repeat the steps except set the security to WPA and see if your XBox will connect. If not, set the airport for WEP and see if that works.

  • Xbox 360 does not connect to Airport Express wireless network

I'm at my wits ends. I got a my son a wireless adapter for Christmas and for the life of me cannot get it to work. We have looked at all the discussion forums on the internet and did A LOT of trial and error and still to connection. On one occasion the xbox 360 wireless adapter saw the network and once it tried to connect is dropped.
I have a Wii, two windows PC's, a printer and a PowerMac all connected to my wireless router. The xbox and the Airport Express both have the latest firm ware update.
These are some of the things I have noticed and tested:
    1. Connection is Cable Modem>Vonage Router>Airport Express....wireless to Xbox360
    2. I have taken the vonage router out to go
Cable Modem>Airport Express...wireless to Xbox360 and still no luck.
    3. I was suspecting a double NAT and contacted Comcast to see if I could put the cable modem in bridge mode and they couldn't help me.
    4. The network is open (no security)
    5. The wireless adapter is a steady red...then when I tell it to find the network it drops out (LED turns off)
    6. I have tried to see if I have a double NAT but tracing in the network utility does not show anything.
    7. I have tried to place the Airport express in bridge mode and when I updated, it doesn't not come back up and I have to do a hard reset to communicate to it again.
    8. There was one instance when the wireless adapter LED was green for about 15 secs and when we tried to connect it dropped out completely (no LED light).
    9. I know it works because in the various forums I have read that people have it working.
I called xbox support and they were not very helpful...wouldn't even search similar cases...I have tried everything I could think of and I'm lost any assistance is appreciated.

    Tesserax,
What is the make/model of the Comcast-provided modem? How about the Vonage router? Is this router also wireless? Finally, I assume that prior to introducing the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), the modem & Vonage router were working properly ... correct?
Thanks for your interest in helping me. To answer your questions:
    1. The comcast make and model for the cable modem is Scientific American Model#DPX2203
    2. The vonage router is ethernet hard wired connected between the cable modem and the apple express wireless route. The vonage router is model#VDV21-VD
    3. With the exception of the wireless connection between the Xbox 360 and AX; everything works fine.
    4. The AX is running Apple firm ware 6.3
In the discussion I have read of similar problems and have tried them all to no avail. I'm sure the is a fix to this problem because of people in the discussion groups have had the same issues. I don't suspect the wireless router because it has a steady red light and only turns off when we do the network test or scan for networks.

  • Connecting 2 Airport Extremes wirelessly....can it be done?

Connecting 2 Airport Extremes wirelessly....can it be done?
I have 2 Airport Extremes. I'm only using 1 of them right now connected to a cable modem. It works well. I can get a wireless signal in most of the house and even outside a bit. However there are upstairs bedrooms on the other side of the house that I don't get a very strong signal on. No "big" deal really but here is what I thought.......
Can I set up my 2nd Airport Extreme to wirelessly receive the signal from the 1st (main) Airport Extreme and place the 2nd Airport Extreme close to the bedrooms with weak reception? I was thinking that the 2nd AirPort Extreme could just pickup and boost my original signal.
Is this possible? I can't find it mentioned in my Airport Manual.
If so, what is the term for this? That way I can search for information on how to configure all of this. If you have any other ideas on how this might able to work please let me know.
    Thanks for your help

OK, you will need to make configuration changes to both of your Extremes.
For the main Extreme (the one connected to your modem now):
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab under the icons
Look on the wireless setup page and make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended". This may be under the Options tab on the wireless page. If you have a dual band Extreme, you can only extend the main network, not the 'guest" network.
    Update to save settings
For the remote Extreme, temporarily locate it near your computer so that you can configure it:
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
On the wireless setup page, change the Wireless Mode to "Extend a wireless network"
You will select the name of wireless network created by your main Extreme. Enter the password if needed.
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
    Update to save settings
    That should do it.

  • Xbox 360 won't connect to Airport Extreme

I just bought an AE today and everything in my house connects to it except my 360. I scan for networks and it finds the Airport Extreme fine. I input the WPA password and it seems to accept it. I then test the Xbox Live connection and it fail immediately at connecting to the network. When I go back in the reconfigure it says "Connected" next to the Extreme network. The light on the adaptor is red. I've reconnected my previous Belkin router and just like yesterday it joins the network fine and I'm able to connect to Xbox Live.
Does anybody know what the problem could possibly be here?
    Thanks.

    Hi Robert,
Just my input but l wouldnt jump the gun and start opening ports just yet. I had the same problem when i got my AEBSn Router and found that i had to update the firmware on the router for the 360 to work wirelessly. Check the firmware first. I distinctly remember it had something to do with the WPA2 encryption. After a router update, voila works like a dream now, which is more than i can say about the PS3, thats another story....
    Good luck!

PS The up to date firmware is version 7.3.2. Hope this helps!

  • Windows Vista Home Premium Computer Doesn't Connect to Airport Extreme's Hard Drive

I have a hard drive connected to an Airport Extreme.  The hard drive is recognized by the Windows computer; that is a dialog box appears that states 'The Airport Disk became available'.  But when I attempt to supply a password it tells me "Could not connect to the disk.  Make sure netBIOS is enabled and try again (53)."
The hard drive connected to the Airport Extreme is 500Gb and formatted as FAT32.  The hard drive has its own power source.  There are no spaces in the hard drive's name or in the Airpot Extreme's name.  I've assigned WORKGROUP as the workgroup on both the Airport Extreme and the Windows Vista comptuer.  I've enabled netBIOS for the TCP/IPv4 connection.
The vista computer is connected to the Airport Extreme via an ethernet cable; the cable is connected to a LAN slot of the Airport Extreme.
    All help is appreciated.

Sounds like you are on the right track but I will have to say that I am very sorry but I am out of ideas - you are getting way out of my experience level - and I have to apologize about my previous post - I spelled Tesserax name wrong - you need help from one of the high level participants - I answered your orignal post because I have had sharing issues with Vista and thought that I could help - having said all that, I just thought of a last resort suggestion - make sure that your hard drive works when connected directly to your computer and then reset your Extreme and start from scratch - if that doesn't work then you might just have an incompatible setup - also if you wait a while and reword your question with your new findings, maybe a more experienced participant will respond - good luck.

  • Cant connect to airport over wireless network

Hi all, I hope you can help.
I can't connect to my wireless network?
I have a netgear wireless modem (brand new today), if I connect my mac via ethernet i can use the web but not via wireless.
When I try to connect to a wireless network, it asks me for the WPA2 security code which I type in and it always fails to connect.
I looked in the airport utilities and tried to scan for devices but it would not show up my modem?
A bit of back ground to this problem. Yesterday I was using my old wireless net work. Netgear Modem connected to an AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes. I have had this for a few years and has worked ok up until yesterday. I had an issue with my xbox 360 not being able to connect to my wireless network after an update so their Tech people told me to add the xbox mac code to my base station. I went into the airport utility and scanned for my base station and it appeared. I typed in the code and clicked ok. It then dissapeared from my airport utility and would not appear even when I scanned for it. Funny enough the xbox was connected but although I could see my network, my mac and 2 other PCs i have could connect?)
Any ideas as I can't suss this out.
    Cheers

Try temporarily disabling any wireless encryption on your Netgear wireless modem/router. Can your Mac connect wirelessly now? If not, what is the model of your Netgear?
I looked in the airport utilities and tried to scan for devices but it would not show up my modem?
The AirPort Utility will only work with AirPorts or Time Capsules, not other vendors' products. Most non-AirPort router use web-based administration ... so you would have to use Safari or another web browser to access the Netgear.

  • Mac G5 drops/loses connection to Airport Extreme wireless base station

When I power up my Mac, it connects normally to the AE wireless base station. After some time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the connection will be lost, although all indications are that it is operating normally, i.e. the AE icon at the top of the screen shows that there is a connection, there are no error messages. The G5 is just not connected to the Internet: the browser won't connect to a Web site, I can't upload or download files to my Web space.
I originally had the problem with a D-Link wireless router so I replaced that with an AE base station. I have replaced that AE base station with a new one (it's the one that looks like a flying saucer) thinking that I might have gotten a faulty one from the factory, I've replaced the original wireless card in the G5 with a ndw Airport Extreme card, I've moved the AE base station into the same room as the G5 (right now it hangs on the wall directly above the G5). I also connect a PC laptop and a MacBook Pro to the Internet via the AE base station and have no problem with either one of them. The G5 and MacBook are running Mac OS X 10.4.10, the PC is running Windows XP.
Also, when I connect the router directly (hardwire) to the G5 it works fine.
The router is a new Siemens Speedstream 4100 (this is also a replacement for the original router).
Since all the equipment in my system has been replaced with the exception of the G5, I assume that the problem lies within the G5.
Perhaps there are settings that can be changed on the G5 to make it more stable in the system, although I have enabled Interference Robustness to no improvement? I am at a loss to come up with a solution. I can't find any literature that addresses this problem specifically. Each time the connection is lost, I have to restart the G5 to get back online which means, of course, saving my data, shutting down all running programs and then restarting. Turning the AE card off and back on does not work.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you,
    Don

I could find no solution in the troubleshooting and set up pages. The only thing I couldn't check out was "Hardware access control" since I don't know how to access this control and no instructions that I could find were given as to how to do this.
I ended up hardwiring the G5 directly to the Airport using the Ethernet ports. This is less than ideal since I am required to locate the Airport near the G5, defeating the purpose of having the Airport, at least for the G5. I am still able to connect my PC and MacBook Pro wirelessly, though and, ironically in the case of the PC, have never had any trouble with these. I am still baffled but don't have the time to "play" anymore and at least I have a functioning, if not ideal, system.
I don't see the point in purchasing a new AE, since I have had this same problem throughout with various configurations and pieces of hardware and the problem persists in exactly the same way no matter what I swap out. I recently purchased and installed the latest issue of AE card in the G5. I think the problem is in the G5, either in the configuration or in the hardware.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Can't connect 2nd airport extreme wirelessly to airport extreme base station

I have an Airport Extreme base station connected to my cable modem.  I have a 2nd Extreme I am trying to connect wirelessly to the base station to extend my network.  The Airport Utility does not see the second AE.  Also the status light on the 2nd AE is flashing amber.  I have tried hard resets and the Utility will not find it.

    OK, thanks for the information.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your issue or not, but according to Apple, a Windows PC cannot be used to configure the newer models of the AirPort Extreme correctly. Here is what the Specifications page for the new AirPort Extreme indicates:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-extreme/specs/
I don't have a PC here to test out the setup.
We can try to configure the 2nd Extreme to extend the 1st, but if that is not successful....and you used the PC to configure the 1st Extreme....it may be necessary to start all over again and reconfigure the 1st Extreme using recommended software before the 2nd Extreme can be set up.
For now, temporarily move the 2nd Extreme to the same room or close proximity to the 1st Extreme.  Power up the 2nd Extreme for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the device for 8-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the 2nd Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
On the home screen for an iPhone or iPad.....
    Tap Settings
    Tap Wi-Fi
Look for an option to Setup a New AirPort Base Station
Tap on AirPort Exteme just below that option
The utility will open up and take a minute to analyze the network, then suggest that the 2nd Extreme will be configure to extend the 1st Extreme. Enter a device name that you want to use for the 2nd Exteme and tap Next.
The utility will configure everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
Now move the 2nd Exteme approximately half way between the 1st Extreme and the area that needs more wireless signal coverage and try things out. Extending this way using wireless will usually result in a loss of about half of the potential network speed, but that is not avoidable with a wireless method.

  • Can't Get Time Capsule to Extend Airport Extreme Wireless Network

I've searched this forum and read dozens of listings, but nothing I've found gives me a answer for the problem I'm having.
I had an existing network consisting of three Airport Extreme routers, one the master/DHCP server and the other two to extend the network. All of the routers were configured for 802.11n 5 GHz only service.
After much frustration trying to use Time Machine to back up to external disks attached to Airport Extremes as well as disks attached to other Macs, I gave up and bought a Time Capsule.
I have been trying for about six months on and off to get the Time Capsule configured as an extension to the main Airport Extreme as the other two Extremes are.
Nothing I've tried will cause the TC to extend the network. It always comes up with a yellow light and error messages saying that there is a problem with the wireless network and a problem with the internet connection and, sometimes, a third message that I don't remember.
After my initial efforts, I just gave up and plugged the danged TC into the remote AE that is closest to where I use my MacBook Pro and it worked. But I wanted it to REPLACE that AE instead of being an appendage to it.
Due to TC/TM problems, I've twice lost the entire TM backup off of the TC, and tonight I decided it was time to start over. I've encountered the same problems as before, and so finally moved the TC to my home office rack where the main AE is located and plugged it into the AE directly. TM is now backing up, but at a snail's pace (which is why I wanted the TC to be located in the same room where I use the laptop).
Has anyone had success or failure extending a multiple-unit AE network with a TC on 802.11n 5 GHz (not WDS)? If not, has your experience been similar to mine; if so, what did you do that I haven't?
Any specific help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I suppose I could do that. But if the wireless extension isn't working in one direction there's no guarantee it'll work in the other direction; and I was trying to avoid upending my entire setup.
And no, I'm not bridging the units with hard-wired cabling; I'm attempting to use wireless to extend them...NOT WDS, which is for 802.11B/G mode, but the 802.11N wireless extension mode that's available on these Apple products.

  • Airport Extreme wireless network can't find my HD-DVR, thus my iPad App, DirecTV, won't work.  Please help.

My Airport Extreme will not allow my HD-DVR (DirecTV) to connect to the wireless network. All my other wireless stuff (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro) all work fine.  My network name is all lower case, no punctuation, no spaces. Therefore my iPad App, DirecTV, cannot find my TV, and I cannot use its features.  I am so frustrated.  DirecTV came out to my house today and told me it's all Apple's fault.  I can hardly believe that!  Please help - TIA!

Plug a LAN port of TC by ethernet directly into the computer.
Unplug the TC so it is fully isolated from the network.
Do a full factory reset of the TC.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
I generally prefer to do the setup by ethernet alone but the new airport utility seems mighty wireless orientated. You might need to power off the modem and AE and everything else so you can pick up just the TC. But check that it doesn't work by ethernet first. Otherwise go to the wifi and you will see the TC listed as new device in the list of wireless AP's available.. click it and it will open the airport utility.
Once you get into the TC give it all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
I would also not turn off its wireless.. there is no need. Just give wireless the same name as the AE, same security setting and password.
Put the TC in bridge mode.
Once you complete the setup .. update the TC and put it back into the network.. if you have not already done so.. restart the whole network.. restart in correct order.. modem.. AE.. TC with 2min between each one.

  • Problems with Airport extreme wireless network setup

I set up a wireless network with my new airport extreme via the airport utility on my macbook air.  The macbook air can access the network and the internet without a problem.  However, when I open the airport utility, it claims the extreme can't access the internet.  Then, when I try to get to the network from any other component in the house:  blue ray players, ipod touches or another laptop, they can see the network, but not connect to it or to the internet.  This is my first time setting up a wireless network - I'm divorced and my ex-husband set up the last one.  I'd rather die than call him for help.    Can you suggest a fix or a way to troubleshoot?  I'm convinced that I've done something wrong in the setup, but for the life of me I can't find the mistake.  Thanks!

  • How to use the airport express to extend the range of an existing airport extreme wireless network?

The instruction manual says nothing on the topic, so maybe it is not possible. The only reason I think it is possible is that two different Apple reps told my girlfriend it was possible. Now we have one, and no clue how to proceed.
We have an Airport Extreme, but its range is maximum 30 feet. We would like to double that. What do we do with the Airport Express? (We cannot move the modem nor the Airport Extreme. What we are trying to do has nothing to do with speakers, iTunes, or printers.)
    thanks

Are both the Extreme and Express 802.11n models? If so, check out this AirPort Support article; if one or both are 802.11g models, check out this article instead.

  • Can't detect Airport Extreme wireless network

My Extreme Base Station seems to be configured ok and I can access it with the ethernet LAN connection.  But none of my wireless devices including my Macbook can see the wireless network.   It's been working fine forever and I did the factory reset after things stopped working today.  But I can't get it back.  Is this a Lion upgrade issue?

A number of users are making use of the "closed" or "hidden" network feature on their wireless routers, so if your Wi-Fi utility "sees" 10 wirelesss networks.....there are probably another 5 or 6 that it cannot "see".
The utility will also not pick up potential interfering signals from cordless phones in the area, BlueTooth devices, wireless camera/security systems, etc.
So, while a Wi-Fi utility can perhaps provide a few clues, it cannot provide many answers in most cases.

  • Another slow internet connection via Airport Extreme wireless thread

Has anyone actually solved this mystery? The last substantial thread I came across regarding this subject ended with a solution using a dell wireless driver. That ended somewhere in December. Any solutions, tips?

I seem to have found a fix, thanks to Michael G. Noll (http://www.michael-noll.com/blog/2006/07/24/intel-imac-wireless-connection-slowd own-with-wpatkip/).
I switched to WAP Personal from WEP and my iMac is now able to connect via wifi from a router in another room, and at normal speeds! Thanks Mike! I hope it lasts. I also changed my routers channel and made it static instead of automatic, but I don't think this had anything to do with the fix (though it may have solved my MacBooks problem of dropping the connection for a second every minute or 2).
I still have the problem of having to manually select my network after start-up and wake-up, however. It does not turn on automatically.
