Why:your itunes library cannot be saved  error-50 keeps popping up.

This message keeps on popping up: your iTunes Library cannot be saved -error 50. What does this mean. It happened a few weeks ago  and I deleted oand moved some music and it stoopped. Does this concern iMatch, or iCloud or is it the hard drive? What do I  or can I do?

Hi boglegod,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you need to unistall the 32 bit version of iTunes and install the 64 bit version on your Windows computer.  Do you have a backup of your iTunes library?  Do you have any other security software installed besides Norton?  The following articles may help you with this:
I would suggest following the information in the "External drive" section of the article below:

  • "Itunes Library Cannot Be Saved" error message

Hello, I was loading a music cd onto my itunes library today when I started getting this recurring Error message stating: *"The Itunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-54)"*
It just keeps popping up, yet the music is all there and nothing is gone (I'm playing it while typing this actually) so in a panic I realized that nothing is backed up, so I started backing up my itunes using a blank dvd and even that failed in the middle of burning. I guess it has something to do with the error message?
This scares me since I'm very careful of the types of discs I put into my Mac, and I know that disc in particular didn't have any kind of virus (its been playing in my car for the last two years actually) and it was burned on my PC using itunes a while back when the system was clean.
My music is like my life and this message is freaking me out, how do I get rid of the message without damaging my library?
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

    Update:
Now the message won't go away at all no matter how many times I click it, it won't let me play anything in my library now.

  • I keep getting an error "The iTunes library cannot be saved. The required disk cannot be found." how do I fix this?

I cannot get past this error. This is the third time I am having this issue with iTunes. I have moved my library off of the systems hard drive onto an external as advised by an Apple Store rep, and now I am back to this. What have some of you done to avoid this error?

  • Getting Error: iTunes Library cannot be saved?

    I have an iPhone 4.
All of sudden I am getting an error when I sync my iPhone 4 using iTunes with my MBP.

The syc seems to work, but the error message pops up continually.
I just upgraded the other day to IOS 6.01.  It was fine yesterday.  Error started this AM. Could it be the upgrade?

  • The iTunes Library cannot be saved an unknown error has occurred (-48)

Every few minutes, I get an error message from iTunes that says:
"The iTunes Library cannot be saved an unknown error has occurred (-48)"
Quitting and restarting iTunes doesn't seem to make the error go away.  All of my music and movies seem to play just fine - not sure why the error keeps popping up - any clues?
    - iTunes library is located in it's normal spot (~/user/music/iTunes/)
    - OS 10.8.2
    - iTunes 10
    - iMac 27" early 2010

Thanks again for the gracious response UV.
You've pointed out a problem...there are a lot of WAV files that I have like unreleased live shows of bands like the Beatles, Neil Young, Miles Davis etc that I've gotten off Bittorrent trading. When I look at the "get info" part of the song in iTunes the details that I've hand entered (dates, venue, song, musicians, etc) does show up.
But when I go back to the actual file itself, many are simply tagged something like "track 1" and the only way I currently keep track of all this is how I organize my library ( Musician or Band folder \ Album folder \ indivual tracks). There are literally thousounds of songs that I've entered data for on these WAV files.
Besides getting my current error problem fixed, has anyone who trades live shows come up with an easier way to organize their music. I understand that I may be in the minority with all my WAV files and that many users simply upload CDS, or mostly buy tracks online which is easier to simply grab the data back if they need from some database. I feel like I'm missing out on something big. Maybe I just need a different program for my particular application (archiving & playing music). ANy ideas from other bittorrent traders of unreleased material?
I am learning more and more about how this all works by the minute, and have taken your advice UV about copying all my current library info and putting it somewhere safe. Hopefully this means everything I've entered up until a few days ago will be fine. Still, I have plenty music waiting for me to hear in FLAC files that need to be decoded into WAV files; but I want to wait to do this until I can be certain all my hard work entering data won't go to waste and my error problem has been fixed.
thanks for all insights - Sonny

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • The iTunes Library cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)

I updated iTunes from 7.2 to 7.3 using Software Update and all went well except for one thing, now when I launch iTunes it rebuilds the iTunes library each time I launch iTunes. The other thing is that once it rebuilds the library it displays a warning; "The iTunes Library cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).
I downloaded the standalone updater to no avail. I have also repaired permissions using disk utility - no luck.
    Background info.
A week ago or so, while I still had iTunes 7.2 I cleaned all my user and system caches, ran all the maintenance scripts and repaired permissions. I used MainMenu, a third party app that lives in the menubar, to perform these functions and faithfully followed all the instructions to restart once or twice depending on the routine and closing all my apps accordingly while doing these maintenance routines etc.
I noticed one thing after this, my iTunes icon had turned into a generic app icon. Knowing iTunes 7.3 was a slated release this Friday I knew the icon issue would resolve itself after the update from 7.2.
What can I do to fix this? Please help.

I somehow got through the -50 error but a few days later podcasts when downloading, would crash iTunes 7.3 altogether.
There was a post here somewhere and I apologise to the poster in advance but I am unable to relocate it.
Here is the solution that was proposed and it seems to have worked for me.
Read the following in its entirety before proceeding:
1 The first thing I did was unsubscribe to all my podcasts by selecting them all and clicking unsubscribe at the bottom of the iTunes window.
    2 Quit iTunes
3 Navigate to YourHomeFolder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Podcasts and move the Podcasts folder to your desktop or some other convenient location.
4 Open iTunes and re-subscribe to all your podcasts.**
5 Once all the podcasts finish downloading navigate to the Podcasts folder sitting on your desktop and move its' contents back to the folder you originally moved them out of. If you had setup the iTunes preferences to keep all your podcasts after they download be careful not to overwrite items as you move them back from the desktop/Podcasts folder to the new Podcasts folder.*
**In my case, the list of podcasts in the iTunes window got kind of messy, I mean some podcasts displayed the GET button when even though they had already downloaded or I already had them on my system and other small things like that - this was the result of re-subscribing. You can select those that you don't want to GET and simply delete them.
*You may have to move one podcast folder's contents at a time, again be careful not to overwrite. If you return things carefully you will have no problems.
iTunes 7.3 has behaved perfectly ever since.
I hope this helps. If my instructions are confusing please chime back.
By the way, command (apple key) clicking any of the collapse triangles both in the finder and in iTunes will expand or collapse all items, this will come in handy as you define anything that might have gone funny after re-subscribing.

  • The itunes library cannot be saved.  An unknown error occurred (-50)  What do I do to get rid of this warning.  I get it when I try to sync my phone or ipad

I am running 64 bit windows operating system.  I upgraded to iOS6 for iphone 4s and ipad II.  Since that upgrade I have been getting this error message
The itunes library cannot be saved.  An unknown error occurred (-50)
I've updated windows thinking it was a compatibility issue.  Uninstalled itunes and reinstalled with the Kaspersky off.
    What is going on.  Thoughts?
and if you click okay it keeps coming back for 3 or 4 pop ups before going away

  • Error Message: iTunes library cannot be saved (50) and then iTunes crashes

I am running 64 bit windows vista, with itunes 10.7.  I get the error message "Error Message: iTunes library cannot be saved (50)" once or twice and then iTunes crashes entirely.  this occurs after a random amount of time using iTunes, and the library is in fact saving between incidents.

Resolved by my getting an iMac ...

  • "Itunes library cannot be saved, there is not enough memory" Error Message

Every time when I leave my mac to play songs on iTunes in shuffle mode or when I select a few songs (such as by the same singer), this error message ("Itunes library cannot be saved, there is not enough memory") would appear after a while, and my iTunes would then crash by itself and an option to 'Reopen' or to 'Report the problem to Apple' box would pop up.
However, this just does not make any sense to me. My mac is a Macbook Pro 2011, 13" with i5 sandybridge processor, 4G RAM, how could it ran out of virtual memory when I am only playing SEVEN songs by the same singer?
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Or should I send this computer back to Apple and ask them to check it?
    Thank you!

I'm getting the same message -- "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. There is not enough memory available." It just started popping up every time I do anything on iTunes, but I haven't updated the program recently (iTunes 10.4.1.10, for the record), and have been using it on this computer (Win7) for over a year.
I checked the archived responses to this problem, and just about all of them are about its other cause ("You do not have enough privileges for this operation"), and the others are about incompatabilities with early Windows 7 (and are several years old), so I don't imagine they're completely relevant.
Please, does anyone know anything to help?

  • ITunes Library cannot be saved. Unknown Error has Occurred (-54)

I have been having the following message appear in iTunes:
iTunes Library cannot be saved. Unknown Error has Occurred (-54)
I created a new library which seemed to solve the problem.... until I plugged in my iPod Classic or tried to Sync my iPhone. When this happened this warning message would come every 10 seconds or so making it a nightmare to do anything as the dock icon would bounce or iTunes would pop up. Can anyone suggest what might have caused this problem and how to resolve it.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting

If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

    Hi,
This is the message iTunes has been showing me lately.
'The iTunes library cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-48)'
It has been getting so frequent i cant have iTunes open for 10 seconds without it popping up, very annoying.

    Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm sorry, don't have a solution but have the same problem. I am running iTunes 8.2.1 (6). the only difference is the number in the error message, for me it is -54.
I'm running on a Macmini, with the itunes library on a network disk (Synology).
I've tried exporting the library, deleting the library file and then importing the saved file - no luck.
Googling the problem you'll find it is not unique, there quite a few people with this problem!
