Whycan't  i move songs manually  around in playlists

why can't i manually move songs around in playlist

I assume you mean, having a playlist of say 10 tracks and moving the track in position 10 to 5.
Are they manually managed playlists or smart playlists?
If you have them sorted by number there should be no problem, if they're sorted by Name/Time/Rating as far as I know you can't move them out of that order.

I have the same problem and I am very upset. I have heard that Apple/iTunes is removing all songs that are unlicened for this type of download. Apple does not want to be responsible for pirated music. Much of mine is down loaded from CD's.  I have to go to search and put in every song and then, if found,  put it into My Music then back into iTunes.  WHAT A HASSLE. I don't remeber reading anything about this. 224 songs so far.  NOT HAPPY.

If you drag items to the shuffle in iTunes, you are loading songs manually.  Dragging playlists to the shuffle loads the songs, but not the playlists.
If you created playlists in iTunes, you should set up automatic syncing.  Here's how to do that...
Select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Near the top of the window, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click Music next to Summary.  This is the shuffle's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs.
Check the box for Sync Music.  Below that, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  In your case, find and checkmark those playlists you want under Playlists.  You don't need to use the other lists for Artists, Albums, and Genres.
When you click Apply, the songs on those playlists and the playlists sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update songs on the shuffle, just update the songs on those playlists (add/remove songs) in your iTunes library.  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), the same changes sync automatically to the shuffle.
Now, you can use VoiceOver to select the playlists on the shuffle.

  • Authorized device was erased. Downloaded iTunes. Says my iPod is already synced to a library. Where do I access that library and how do i get it back on iTunes? I tried manually move songs in disk mode. Bunch of data on ipod, how to remove?

One of my authorized devices was erased. I downloaded iTunes. Says my iPod is already synced to a library. It will allow me transfer purchased songs but not songs I had that were downloaded off of my CD's. Where do I access that library and how do i get it back on iTunes? I tried manually move songs in disk mode. Now I have a bunch of data on ipod and I don't know how to remove it. It basically copied all my itunes files from my C drive onto ipod in my efforts to move the library.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Missing numbers on left hand side, which allow me to move songs around

This has happened before and i was able to fix it but it's been so long that i've forgotten and i decided this might be quicker than trying to figure it out myself, since it took forever the last time, lol
When i'm looking at music that is sitting under the "Purchased" icon under the "Store" heading...the left hand side column have numbers in it which allow me to move the songs around in any order i want them. I had them set up under my main library under iTunes 6 but when i updated to 7 i lost them all and now i can't drag and drop the songs into the order i want to hear them if i'm hitting play on the first song and listening in the order i put them for however long i choose to listen.
Now i've got my ipod playing 14 hours a day at work and i want to listen to my music in the order i want. However, when i'm looking at my music under my ipod within itunes, i don't have the numbers on the left hand which allow me to move the music around to my liking. What i now have on my ipod are songs done alphabetically per song name which is NOT what i want.
When the numbers disappeared from the left hand column, i lost the ability to drag my songs around.
    Help Please, anyone!

nm, i figured it out for myself. Let me just say that having to make a playlist when the music you listen to is all right there on your ipod is about ********!! WHY would you have to make a playlist with the SAME music that is in your main music file just so you can move the music around?!?!?! Completely Stupid!

  • How do I move songs around

    Thanks

First of all, if you are trying to drag songs from one position to another, that can only be done in a playlist. You can't do that in the iTunes Library list view, all you can do in there is re-order the songs by clicking at the top of any column. If the songs are in a playlist open iTunes then click on the playlist. Click at the top of the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move and drag it to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.

  • Upgrade itunes 11 now can't move songs around in plaits

itunes 11 will not let me move songs from playlist to nrw playlist

Make sure to select the heading of the left-most column of numbers, the Play Order column, before attempting to drag tracks up or down the list.

  • Can't move songs on iPod

I went to update my iPod today and discovered that I could no longer move songs around on the iPod in iTunes. I used to be able to play music off the iPod in iTunes, and now the library on the iPod is faded out (meaning I can't do anything with the music like make playlists or delete songs...I can't even add individual songs when I use the manual sync option). I can still listen to the music on the iPod and add songs to the default "untitled playlist", but I can't even rename the untitled playlist when the iPod syncs. I tried chosing the automatically sync option, and once everything had been re-imported into my iPod i got a warning that some songs were not imported because they could not be played on my iPod - these were songs that were on it before and I had no problems with. Finally I tried restoring the iPod and re-syncing everything, but the same songs don't work and I still can't change stuff on iTunes.
I also noticed that when I click on my iPod on the desktop I no longer have a folder for music - i only have notes, contacts and calendars.

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

  • Suddenly can't move songs in itunes playlists

I've been using iTunes ever since it came out and I use it all the time. Suddenly today I can't move songs around in my playlists. I tried making a new playlist and moving songs from the library into it and even that doesn't work (I can't actually move a song from my music library into any playlist any more)
I've checked through all the other threads where people have had this problem and done everything suggested but nothing is working.
I do have the playlist number arrow highlighted
I do have manual ordering turned on in the view options
I've logged out and restarted several times
    I have shuffle turned off
The only possible thing I can think of is that I got an invitation to upgrade to iTunes 11.4 which I said I would download, but although I've been taken into the app store, nothing is showing. Could it be something to do with iTunes 11.4 or the app store?

Ahhh!!! I closed down for a few hours and now it's working fine!

  • Moving songs around in playlists

I have several playlists set up in iTunes. Is there any way to manually move the songs within these playlists so that I can have them play in the order I want?
I have tried to drag them and it does not work, and I have also right-clicked to see if there is a "move up" or "move down" option and there is not.
    Thanks

Unfortunately..... doing that did NOT work for me.
I only have 4 playlists. In 3 out of 4 I can move the sounds around.... in the 4th I can't. And mysteriously.... the song order re-arranged itslef recently in that same playlist.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Can ypou move songs from one ipod to another?

Is there a way to move songs from one way to another, if so can you tell me.

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can't move songs within my playlists

Tried to move songs within my playlists, but menu button is not working. I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago, never dropped it and the botton works fine in other apps. I took out the battery, but it still doesnt work.

I experienced the same problem with the menu button not working when trying to remove a song from a playlist.  I did come up with a work around though.  Remove the song from your phone, then proceed to delete the song from the playlist.  Note: the menu button will work when trying to remove songs from a playlist which have been deleted from your phone.  Then, if you still want that song on your phone, but not in the playlist, add the song back onto your phone.
