Whys does Messages app freeze in Mountain Lion?

Whenvever I click the app it take really long to respond and whenever I write a message and press Return the rainbow wheel shows up and it take a good minute or so to respond again. It also shows the rainbow wheel after recieveing messages. This is very annoying I tried to run just the Messages app and finder but it still does that. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please help.

I would also ask which message service this is over ?
iMessages may be slow from time to time depending on how busy the server is (noting many new devices being registered and an holiday increase in People messaging anyway).
You may be using Jabber server that is popular such and the GoogleTalk or Facebook ones.
I would not expect a delay using an AIM or AIM valid name. (They sold off ICQ which gave them lots of Bandwidth)
I would also ask what Font you have chosen to Send Messages in and what, if any, Incoming Override Font you are using ?
I would check in the Font Book whether the chosen Fonts are active.

Why does Messages app automatically start whenever I receive an imessage?

I'm using my mac to try and get some work done, and as a result have apps such as messages closed (I'm trying to focus.) I even have pop-up notifications disabled in the notification center. However, whenever I receive an imessage messages.app automatically opens itself, disrupting my concentration. How can I disable this behavior?

Can you check that imagent (it will be lower case) is running in the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) ?
If you have NOT set the option in Messages > Preference > General Section to Be Off-line On Quit then IMAgent should start up when the computer does.
If it have been Force Quit then it should also restart if FaceTime or Messages is started up.
If the .plist has been removed it should be recreated from defaults within the app(s) when the app if started up again.

Message app disappeared with Mountain Lion install attempt

I attempted to install Mountain Lion on my "early 2008" MacBook ... did not install, but somehow the iCloud Message app disappeared ... any ideas?

Sometimes restarting the router/modem can help with downloads.
However, if the connection is slow or flaky, it is difficult to get a clean download with a file that large.

Because line-in has been removed.
It does allow for an Apple headset with mic., but I don't know if it would work with third-party ones.
You'll need to use a Griffin iMic or similar to use line-in via a USB port.
The same goes for the 15" retina, the newest MBA and the new iMac (whenever it finally arrives).

Why is safari so slow with mountain lion?

Every page that I load in safari is extemely slow after upgrading to mountain lion. I dont have any other applications and it takes way too long. I can open the same page on my PC much faster. I really hope Apple releases an update soon because this is terrible. Apple even promotes mountain lion as having faster speeds for safari (what a joke).

What's installed on your computer? If you don't have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later then you cannot get Lion. If you already have Lion installed then you cannot re-download from the App Store until you have reinstalled Snow Leopard.

I tried to restart the mac several times. It doesnt work all the same.

I found something that fixed the issue for me.
First close the App Store -> then use spotlight to find something called Keychain Access -> go to prefreences in keychain access -> under the Certificates tab navigate to "Certificates Revocation List (CRL): -> change this to off.
Close Keychain Access
Reopen the App Store
Go back to keychain access -> Preferences -> Certifictes tab -> change "Certificate Revocation List (CRL): to "Best Attempt".
Close Keychain Access
Close App Store
Reopen App Store
then naviagte to updates and it downloaded just fine for me.

No, I didn't find your post helpful.
I'm well aware that FileMaker does not indicate compatibility between FileMaker Pro 9 and Mountain Lion. However, in my experience, "compatibility" is a somewhat ambiguous term -- lack of compatibility doesn't mean that FM Pro 9 won't run under ML. There may indeed be some feature in FM Pro 9 that won't work properly -- but that doesn't mean that the app as a whole is, for example, unusable.
As another example, I believe that Roxio lists that Toast Titanium 9 won't run under Mountain Lion, either, but it seems to run just fine for me ;-)
Hence my question: has anyone tried?

Why is Messages.app using my location?

By chance, I happened to notice the 'location' icon in the menu bar, it was saying the Messages.app was using my location... Why? I've got my iPhone set to be the source of location (Settings->iCloud->Advanced->Share My Location) so I'm happy with that, but I'm puzzled as to why the Messages app on the Mac would be using it? Google hasn't turned up anything, and it doesn't seem that there is anything on this forum either?
I do understand I can switch this off in the settings, my question is "why is the app using my location?", what is the reason?

I am not sure I explained it that well.
Before iMessages Phones used to send SMS messages.
The identifier you saw depended on what the other phone gave out.
In the UK that tends to be the Carrier service as Area Code and then the Number. That means my carrier gets 7973 preceded by an 0 for the British telephone system.
Obviously most people I know have UK telephone number of UK mobile phone services numbers.
The Messages app on the Mac can use the iPhone Number but does so over the Internet and not by the Phone service
The App then has the Country Code set.
If your Phone number in he Contacts app does not list the Country Code then this adds it.
As far as I can tell it adds it to all numbers that are missing the Country Code (most people collect the 11 digit number with the leading 0)
Of course the chances are your iPhone is not always where your computer it either.
As for the Time Servers. Apple has three based around the world and you can enter your own if you wish.
I would guess that all of them are linked to a master time device at some point.
On the other hand it is strange that it appears in the Menu Bar when it has not before.

Built-in to OS X is the ability to capture an entire screen or selected portions. Snaps are saved to the Desktop by default:
COMMAND-SPACE-3 snaps the entire screen.
COMMAND-SPACE-4 lets you select a portion of the screen to snap.
In your Utilities folder is a utility called Grab that provides similar functionality and more.
Then there are dozens of third-party solutions such as SnapNDrag and SnapzProX. You will find them and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Most have trial versions or trial times so you can test them out.

home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update. Does anyone else have the same issue. Updated all computers in my home, deauthorized and reauthorized each computer. turn off home sharing and turned it back on. don't know what else to do..please help...

Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail.
