Wi-Fi connection issues since securing network

Hi all,
Hoping to get some solutions as I have tried to troubleshoot this issue with other posts and google searches. Here is my scenario :
I'm running OS Lion 10.7.5 on my MBP and have been connected to our home wi-fi for about 12 months on a connection that wasn't secured by password.
Since having some download issues and fearing that someone is connecting outside our household, we have secured our wi-fi and added a password.
Both mine and my sister's iPhones got prompted to select a network, selected the appropriate one, punched in the password and were connected with no issues. My iPad Mini, Dad's laptop and both my parents' phones all connected with no issue.
When I booted my MBP, I was prompted with needing to join a new network and upon selecting our home network was met with an immediate 'Connection timeout' response.
I try to connect manually through Network in the System Preferences and got the same 'Connection Timeout'. When I click 'Assist me' and try to connect that way, I am finally prompted to input the password, which I do correctly and I get 'Invalid Password' etc etc response ... then after about 5 seconds it connects me !!
So even though the connection timed out and I wasn't able to put a password in, manually doing it told me the password was wrong etc then I get connection like normal. If I switch my laptop off/reboot/log out/turn wi-fi off then back on, I'm back to square one and can't connect unless I follow the same tedious steps.
Fearing it was an issue with our router, we have since bought a new one, installed it and reconnected all the devices as mentioned above, however my MBP connection issue still exists.
How can I get it to connect automatically like it used to and recognize our home network with a correct password, without continually having to go through all those steps ?
I have tried to delete that entry in my preferred networks and tried to re-establish it etc. Keychain Access doesn't list my router and input password.
I'd like to be able to solve the issue asap if possible and hopefully without having to delete all of my other known networks that I connect to as I travel all over the country for work and have about 6-8 routers I connect to, depending on what city/office I'm in.
Any assistance would be appreciated !

Some users with various Wi-Fi connection problems have reported that they were given the following instructions by Apple Support, sometimes with success. I can't vouch for this procedure myself. After completing the procedure, you'll have to recreate all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make sure you know how to do that before you begin. Taking screenshots of the preference pane may be helpful.
Step 1
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 2
Reset the System Management Controller

  • IPad 2 can only connect to unsecured Wireless network.  It won't connect to my secured network at home or at work

Two days ago my ipad 2 with (wifi only) will not connect to my secured network even though it show's up as available with a strong signal.  It keeps rejecting my password.  I brought the Ipad to work and the same issue.  However I am able to connect to an unsecured wireless network with no issue.  Is this a network/router issue or an ipad issue?  If it's a network issue what is the fix? calling my internet provider to change router settings?

    - I've used the correct pw (it worked till 2 days ago)
    - I use road runner from Time warner, not sure of the mac address filtering
    -Security is WPA PSK.
I called road runner to request they remove my pw and see if i can access my wireless if that works which i believe it will then it has to be a security issue.  I'm using a 802.11n wifi access point, if that means anything.

  • Satellite A300 - won't connect to WPA secured network

Help please.... new Toshiba Satellite A300 - running XP professional with atheros AR9281 wireless network adapter (driver 7.6.0.200) won't connect to WAP secure networks, but seems to be fine with WEP and unsecured networks?
I can connect to my WAP secure network using LAN cable and also if I use an external Netgear wireless adapter, so the problem is definitely with this adapter or driver. I have update bios and tried updating driver, but no luck. Current driver is (I think) most up to date?
Would be grateful for your help.
    Thank you.

On the Toshiba website is a newer driver version available (7.6.1.149.1)
So I would try the new driver.

  • Why isn't my wifi connecting over a secure network? I typed the password in correctly, but it won't seem to connect.

Why isn't my wifi connecting over a secure network? I typed the password in correctly, but it won't seem to connect.

Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the blue circle with an arrow to the right of your network then tap: Forget This Network.
Restart the iPad. Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the network name again then type in your password.
If that didn't help, try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Wi-Fi Assistant
And try turning off your router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Try typing in the password again.

  • Cannot connect to the secure network but can to the guest network

I have three computers in my home, all Apple. One is an iMac with 10.5 installed, another is a powerbook g4 17" with 10.5 installed and the third is an old titanium powerbook g4 15" with 10.4 installed. All of them have the newest versions of software.
I just bought a new time capsule and that has the newest firmware upgrade installed. I set the time capsule up with a secure WPA Personal network and a guest network with no password. I can connect to the secure network on the iMac and the 17" powerbook but the titanium powerbook cannot even see the secure network or connect to it if I enter it and put in the correct password. However the titanium powerbook can see and connect to the guest network.
Please help, I need to be able to print from the titanium powerbook to an ethernet printer connected to the time capsule.
I've tried adding a wireless client with no password in airport utility thinking I could connect the titanium powerbook that way and that does not work either.

Actually I have figured it out. I guess the titanium powerbooks cannot do WPA encryption, only WEP but I cannot choose WEP in the airport utility nor do I want to. I did find a work around though.
In airport utility I went to the base station menu and clicked on "equivalent network password" and it shows the WPA password and then something called "WPA Pre-Shared Key". The key is a 64 character password but I tried it on the titanium powerbook and it worked!

  • Airport shows I am connected to a secure network, but Safari will not connect nor will any other internet software.

I cannot connect via Safari to a live Internet connection.  System preferences show Airport is on and connected to a secure network.  I am able to connect using my iPad and other devices.

Thanks. Turns out that I had to re list the router and update its password along with resetting the DHCP.  Once that was accomplished all seemed to work fine again.  Just can't figure out why the connection was disrupted.

  • Major iPad 3 WiFi connection issues since 5.1.1 update

Prior to the 5.1.1 update (which ironically was supposed to fix wifi issues), my iPad 3 worked great.  Since the update it has been a complete disaster.
Even though it always shows a strong wifi connection, certain apps seem to have no connection while others work fine.  Safari usually works ok, although sometimes pictures won't show up - just a small box in the corner.  Facebook app always seems to have issues as does Pandora.  The biggest problem is the App Store or iTunes which say it cannot connect even though Safari works fine at the same time.  Ive tried reconnecting, rebooting, and I even bought a new router since I thought maybe my old one was causing the problem.
Is Apple fessing up to this issue?  I have to believe it is a software/firmware issue since before the update everthing worked fine.

  • Ibook G4 having  problem with airport connection when using secure network

    Hi,
I am currently using a brand new Macbook. I am connected wirelessly to a Comcast network through my Netgear Wireless-N 150 router model WNR 1000. The problem I am having is with the 4 year old ibook when I go to use the airport and connect to my existing network it says the password is incorrect. I spent time troubleshooting this with Netgear and basically we found out that the ibook does connect with the network when there is no security at all.
I erased the hard drive on this ibook to prepare it for sale and it is back to the factory settings. Is there some kind of firmware or drivers I am missing to use the airport as described?? I want to be able to show the buyer that the internet works etc. I also may want to install a few things on the ibook before the sale.
    Thanks a mil

Did you reset the wireless router to see if by default, it has a different
wireless security then, than however it presently is set up?
The question you pose appears to be marked "answered or solved."
When you reinstall an OS X, the setup asks if you have an existing
wireless connection, or if you will be getting a new one; by default,
the setup will make the existing one the automatic one for OS X.
You should not have to add passwords or other, unless there has
been one set in KeyChain or for the specific wireless base in question.
Tiger 10.4.x does not require you to have a set password for wi-fi,
but you will find several levels of secure options available in OS X.
Not sure why your setup and configuration is problematic. Usually,
a totally new OS X installation is without issue. Sometimes, you
may have to administer a base station via Ethernet cable before
some configurations can use it, but an existing network should be
easy, unless it already has a password security in place.
    The Mac will work without a password-protected wi-fi internet source;
often it will 'just work' even when moved to a new environment and
a neighbor's network, if not password protected, will appear among
other options in your vicinity and it will be automatically available.
Not sure if any newer OS X update parts, from the Combo update
files to take Tiger 10.4 to 10.4.11, plus others, would help the Mac
connect better to whatever wireless source of internet available.
I've not had that issue, as you state, except for when someone has
a protected network or passwords in place. Mine has passwords to
keep unauthorized neighbors from easy access; just in case.
In remote locations where few neighbors exist who could access wi-fi
from a lone source, no wireless security settings at all, work just fine.
I've done that; and found a little greater range was gained in signals.
And in the city (largest town in state) a computer I'd set up for use in
a password protected wi-fi network - later worked fine and found the
new owner's own wi-fi network without issues; and I had let the OSX
setup assistant do its job. If a local network is protected by WEP or
WPA2, etc with a password, one would be needed to access it. If not,
then the connection should be automatic.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I have 2 ipod touch 3rd gen. Cannot connect to my wifi.  One will connect with neighbor's unsecure network..neither connect with my secured network

I have 2 ipod touch 3rd generation.   Cannot connect to my wifi.   One will connect on and off to my neighbor's unsecure wifi but neither will connect to my secured wifi.   All my wireless computers connect plus my Ipad connects.    They did connect at one time but haven't used them for anything but audio books which connect through Itunes on my computer.   It shows my secured network name.   When I originally connected them it was another rather with other security but since then I have bought new equipment.   My Ipad and my printers just automatically connect.    I have put in the Ip information plus but still no luck.

    Try :
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network

  • IPad 2 is having connectivity issues since I updated to 8.0.2

My IPad 2 had connectivity for about 6 hours after I downloaded 8.0.2 last Saturday.  Sunday morning I was back to NO SERVICE in the upper left hand corner.  Yesterday I went to the Apple Store and they showed me how to reset the cellular data, and again I had my 3G back for 6 hours.  Last night and again today we were back to NO SERVICE.  Again I went to the Apple Store and they explained that there were a few phone models that were having cellular connectivity issues, but not IPads.  Well, that's bunk, since I see the complaints that are exactly like mine all over the web.  The Apple Store wiped my IPad clean and told me that if this is a software issue this should fix the problem.  If this is a hardware issue then I will need to buy a new IPad.
Apple needs to own up to the problems that it caused with our devices.  AT LEAST, we should be able to take the updates off of our IPads and go back to 7.0.

is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

  • Airport not showing "lock" on wifi after being connected to a secured network

Our power went down and I had to set-up our router once again....
I created the secure wifi SSID on the Linksys router....my MacBoo Pro sees the network "with the lock icon" indicating it has been secured properly, I am prompted for the WEP password and upon entering it connect fine to the secured network.
What is stange is when I look under my wifi connections its shows the SSID that I am connected to but does "NOT" show the lock icon.
Has anyone else seen this....I have never had this happen before.
    Thanks,
    Derek

I have had similar problems. I had a time machine malfunction. Went back to Airport Extreme and creted a new network. It works for fine for a while. Then I come back the next day its not working.  Asking for a Apple 80211 Agent. Entered password and won't work. I then started from scratch restting the airport. It works fine. I then create a password WPA2 and it accepts it but I can't lock changes. I also click the need a password to change networks, but it is automatically going to another network. I have deleted that network form my list. Still can't lock the changes.

  • Fed up with speed and connection issues since exch...

Last Monday BT done some upgrade work at our local exchange.  From that point onwards we have had speed and connection issues.
I use a Belkin G Router rather that the Homehub some that we can run a printer through it and that is plugged in to telephone socket via an extension.  But before we blame any of that we have gone back to the Homehub2 so we could see the difference and there is very little.
We live in the countrside so broadband speeds are not great in any case.  About 1.8 mg I guess but we have always had no problems.  It was good enough for us and we could watch Iplayer.
I was getting fed up with drop outs and speed and yestereday an Openreach guy came out tested everything could not find any problems apart from speed.  He made some calls and was told our band width had been capped.  He had that removed and yesterday evening speed was a bit better.
    Today just as bad again.

  • Wireless network connection issues since last security update

    Hi All,
I've run into an annoying problem since I applied the last security update.
I've locked my wireless network a home down pretty tight. One of the settings I set is the "don't broadcast SSID" for that tiny bit more of security.
Since the last security update my MacBook doesn't connect to my wireless anymore. There are two ways I can get it to connect:
    1. Manually tell it to connect by resupplying the SSID and the WPA key info.
    2. Reconfig my wireless to show it's SSID, connect, tell wireless to hide it's SSID. I then lose connection but have a few seconds that the MacBook "knows" the wireless exists and I can select to connect to it from the wireless icon in my top menu bar.
Anyopne run into this issue and know a fix? Getting annoyed of having to do this every time I boot. Especially as I needed to change my WPA key into something I can remember instead of the 56char key I used to have
    thanx

Thanks Eric! Since changing this setting last night, all has been ok

  • Connectivity issues since upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hello folks.  Sorry to dredge up bad memories, but I upgraded my old MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3.  AirportX firmware update ran at the same time, now my network shows as connected, but I can't connect to mail or Internet.  It was supposed to be an interim step so I could go to a more current o/s via online download, but obviously that's not an option right now.
The Airport is green, I show as having a connection to the network, but nothing works.  I've restarted both MacBook and Airport, reinstalled SL, still nothing.  There's no antivirus on board, and no sharing set up, which I gather were common issues back when the rest of you were encountering this issue back in 2009... Didn't occur to me it wouldn't have been patched long since.
    Any suggestions?

Same problem here - the MobileMe sync never completes. I've checked syncing from my iPhone back to the Me.com web site, and that is fine. So the problem seems to be between my newly-upgraded 10.6 Mac and the MobileMe "cloud."
Best I can tell, the hangup is with calendar sync. Here's what the Console log tells me:
8/29/09 9:20:30 AM com.apple.syncservices.SyncServer[2162] 2009-08-29 09:20:30.085 iCalExternalSync[2183:903] [ICalExternalSync ]The sync server failed to let client iCal pull changes
    And the mobilemesync.log says this:
2009-08-29 09:25:20:858|35a2b00|Error|Sync cancelled for dataclass com.apple.Calendars while merging changes in Sync Engine: Session <ISyncConcreteSession: 0x10274b8f0> cancelled. lost connection to SyncServer
Could it just be traffic? That seems unlikely.
I've already tried to "Reset Sync Data" under "Advanced" in the MobileMe Sync preferences - I told the sync to replace everything on my computer with info from MobileMe. That didn't fix the problem.
My last successful sync was right before my upgrade from 10.5.8!
    Ideas?
