Wi-Fi Reception Question
I know that previous models of the powerbook had somewhat poor Wi-Fi reception even compared to the iBook (something about an antenna/case issue).
Does anyone know which model was the problem - aluminum/titanium?
Q: How is the signal reception working on the new macbook pro w core 2 duo?
My wife has had her MBP 2CD since November, and is only used via wi-fi. She has had no problem using it in any room in the house, upstairs or downstairs. Internet access, e-mail, and Skype are all good. She has not complained once, and my own use of it has also been problem free. Just make sure you have all the updates via software update.

I have read many complaints about poor Airport reception with TiBooks. But most of the complaints seem to come from owners of 500MHz TiBooks. Did Apple improve the reception in the 1GHz model? I ask because I have not experienced a problem, but then again, I typically sit on my couch about 8 feet from my Airport Express Base Station. But I am curious is that was one issue with earlier TiBooks that Apple dealt with at some point. I know they dropped the ball on TiBook hinge design and case sturdiness. But did they rectify the Airport "problem"?
Also, if I use one PB with Airport Extreme, and one with just Airport, will the computer with the slower card perform much slower than the one with Extreme, or will it slow down my broadband collection much?Chris, as you know Apple is always making efforts to enhance and improve on there products.
That being said the older Airport technology running 802.11b is slower than the newer Airport Extreme 802.11g.
The nice part about this is the reverse compatability of the Extreme recognizing and operating at the b technology speeds.
As for your other question about slowing down your broadband connection much. Generally as a rule it won't be as noticable as you might think. Remember that b and g technology operate at 2 distinct different speeds, and you will notice the difference there.
Depending on your Broadband.(Internet Service Providers Speed). There could be a drain on bandwidth if let's say downloading large files and or music, or video.
Most folks don't notice if they aren't using several applications and have them all open and running which tends to slow things down... Hope this helps...Don -
I'm having some issues with my new Airport Extreme which I bought a couple of weeks ago to replace my aging Linksys WRT54G.
Both routers are still in use, the 54G (now being used as just an access point) for some non-N devices, and the Extreme is being used in N only mode. Both routers are in the same location in my house.
The iMac connects to the 54G at the full 54Mb and gives around 2.5-2.8mb/s peak data transfer, but it will only ever connect to the Airport Extreme at a wildly varying rate of between 25-75Mb, and never gives more than 2.5mb/s data transfer. If I put my Macbook in the same location it will connect to the Linksys at 54Mb and to the Airport Extreme at the full 130Mb (and gives data transfer of around 8mb/s).
I have tried the Airport in all the Wifi modes (A/B/G/N, 2.4 Ghz, 5Ghz etc.) and always get the same result no matter what.
I know the iMac is known to have slightly flaky Wifi reception, but seeing as it's connecting to my old router at full speed, I don't understand why it's so hobbled with the Airport. I was expecting after buying an Apple router to use with an Apple computer everything would work great.
Is this normal? The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the multiple antennas in my iMac are not working right?I have the Linksys in bridge mode, I also only hooked it up a day or so ago, but I've had this problem for a couple of weeks before, so I know it's not interference from my Linksys router. Especially as I now have the Airport Extreme running in 5Ghz mode.

IPhone reception -technical question
Please don't ball me out if this is a dumb question - I love my iPhone and how it does everything except get good reception at my home. Most of the time I have zero bars. My previous Nokia phone ( also at&t) got a better signal here. So here's the question - does anyone know if the new iPhone will have the same antenna or a different one? I went to the at&t support site to chat with a technician about this but a lot of their site is down for maintenance.
Some believe that the plastic back will help improve reception. Since the phone hasn't been released yet, it's tough to say for sure.

Yes i did remover the sim and put it back in. shut down, removed sim re booted up did a network reset and installed the sim.

Potentially a band aid to merely save face. Hopefully proper RF tuning to account for the attenuation present when the hand is near that corner of the phone will be implemented. -

My wife's Treo Pro gets terrible reception in places where the reception on my Palm Pre is fine. Is there anything she can do to improve reception and stop dropping calls? What is the latest firmware/software that she should be on?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)Has your wife had sprint service for a long time? If so Sprint may need to do a network reprovision on the account. If that does not resolve the issue it could be that the OS or the hardware is not correctly working. If it is the OS a hard reset should fix the issue. If not the device needs to be replaced.
The device had no updates out for it. Also to be sure this is a Sprint device correct?

How can I improve Wifi reception of MacBook Pro?
I have just bought an external display to use with my MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (17") on the second floor of my house. My modem/router is on the first floor on the opposite end of the house, no more than 55 ft. away.
My MacBook Air gets a strong full Wifi signal (all 5 bars are showing)—so strong that I can easily stream Netflix movies without interruption, but my MacBook Pro gets one so weak (only 2 bars are showing) that I can hardly surf to any webpage at all. And this occurs even though both computers are in exactly the same location.
I have AT&T U-Verse, which uses a model 3801HGV modem/router. No computers in my house are connected via ethernet; all through wireless.
My question: What can I do to improve my MacBook Pro's signal strength? Relocating the modem/router is not an option. Do I need to boost my router's signal somehow? If so, how? Or can I improve the reception of my MacBook Pro?
I do have an idle AirportExtreme that could be used in a solution, but I am not sure whether, or how, I could use it.

Maybe it is dual band. 2.4GHz is more for distance even if a bit slower.

Just double-checking - a question re. right configuration
Hi all,
I would like to ask the experts whether my following network setup is configured correctly (or ideally for that matter).
We have a flat with a lot of walls between the rooms, so one router is not enough to ensure wifi reception in every room. Thus my current setup is:
a)
In one room:
Internet -> TC (configured using dual wifi networks with different names / 2,4 + 5Ghz) -> + additional connection via LAN Port to Powerline Adaptor / wall socket
b)
second room:
Wall socket / Powerline Adaptor -> Airport Extreme via WAN Port (The AE is in Bridged Mode, the wifi networks are configured exactly the same way/same names as in room #1, but however using different channels than in room #1).
My questions:
1) Does this setup reflect an ideal setup in a flat that is so large / with a lot of walls that I need a second router to ensure wifi reception everywhere?
2) If yes,
2a) Using the WAN port instead of the LAN ports on the bridged AE is correct? Or doesn't it make a difference if I use LAN or WAN on the bridged AE?
2b) Using the same wifi network name in both rooms (but on different channels) makes sense, right? I figured my end-devices will always choose the better router (either TC or AE) depending on where I move about in my flat...

An ideal setup would use Ethernet cabling between the routers. Powerline Adaptors have a good deal more signal and speed loss....and can be "iffy" as far as reliabiliy. After all, you are sending an Ethernet signal over the electrical wiring in your home.
Powerline can work OK in some homes,but not others. You just have to try it out to see how it works in your home. Ethernet cabling always works, and there is no signal loss in a wire.

When you have an AirPort in Bridge Mode, it makes no difference whether you use the WAN or LAN port(s), since they all behave as LAN ports in Bridge Mode.
2b) Using the same wifi network name in both rooms (but on different channels) makes sense, right? I figured my end-devices will always choose the better router (either TC or AE) depending on where I move about in my flat...
Same Wi-Fi nework name, same wireless security, and same password on channels that are separated at least 4-5 settings on the 2.4 GHz band and another channel on the 5 GHz band.
Most laptops will automatically switch to the AirPort providing the strongest signal as you "walk" them around the house. But, do not expect iPhones, iPads, etc to do this, as their operating systems are not as sophisticated.
If you want an iPhone or iPad to pick up the "other" AirPort when you move it around, you usually need to turn off the Wi-Fi on the iPhone, move it, and then turn it back on again. Hopefully, it will pick up the signal from the closer AirPort router. -
Some questions about my Linksys setup ...
Well first of all I don't know much about wireless network equipment. I just linked them up and it works. However I need to know the following: 1)What is the difference between an access point and a router? I have a router with antennae and that seems to be the access point. It's all I seem to need anyway. 2)I need to extend my range so my cabin which is about 100yds from the house so it can share my network. What kind do I need, i.e. omni-directional? 3)What Dbi should be the least I need? 4)I don't want to spend much money. I've seen those ones with the magnetic base that I can mount on a tin roof. Are they any good? They are cheap ... more suited to my pocket. 5)Some of these antennas specify a reverse polarity connection to the router/access point. I have a Linksys WRT54GS which has detachable antennas. Are the connectors reverse polarity or what? I don't want to risk damaging my router. 6) Is it okay to replace one router antenna with an external antenna and leave the other router antenna in place? 7) In order to extend coverage from the back of the house to the front of the house (the equipment is in the loft against back/front windows) I linked up 2 routers(the second router is a belkin). It seemed to work and I got reception almost to the cabin. The only difference was that I got a choice of 2 networks ... Linksys and Belkin. There didn't seem to be a problem though. Is that okay? Sorry for so many questions but I know that if I get these answered it will help complete my knowledge of these things. I'd appreciate any help you can give me to answer them. Thanks. I currently run a dual G and N only network using two routers that includes both Apple, Windows computer, ATV and, a net drive. Works like a champ. -
There are reports of some 3G, or NextG ph's without a blue tick, with as good a reception as the blue ticks. This may include iphone, HTC Desire, and a new to Telstra shop Motorola Defy, that has a blue tick. Telstra staff are not able to give any information re upcoming models of smart phone + good rural reception
I was just having a look back at this post on the Q + A Session and had two thoughts:
- Did Nokia ever address the questions that they deferred by saying they will get back to them later?
- On Q9 the answer from the engineers that it was not an easy task to get Virtual RAM is a cop-out.
They admitted that the c: drive has memory paging and that this make apps run faster and smoother. That implies that apps installed on the mass memory won't run as fast or smoothly. I suspect that a lot of problems with apps are caused by being installed on the mass memory.
So where does that leave N97 owners, Nokia are very unlikely (like a snowballs chance in...) to recall N97s to have more memory fitted, so it goes without saying that Nokia should work on Virtual RAM from the Mass Memory as long as this can be accessed as fast as the c: drive (I don't know if this is even technically possible).
The decision to put such a small c: drive on the N97 was a terrible one, especially when you consider the position of this flagship device in relation to Nokia's move towards service with the Ovi Store and the additional overhead of the homescreen with widgets. Nokia all but acknowledged this by increasing the c: drive in the N97 mini. All I can hope is that Nokia have learnt from the bad publicity that this penny pinching exercise has caused and that whoever made the decision has either lost their job or been demoted to the most junior position in the company.

1. - I have a confirmed sales order which has an entry in CO06.
2. - I have a purchase order related to the sales order.
3. - I have a inbound delivery related to the purchase order and a logistics invoice.
4. - The inbound delivery has been posted goods reception

Ah. I have found a correction report called SDRQCR21. This report deletes all of those not correct entries in CO06.
But unfortunately this is not the root cause it is just like at the doctors getting some aspirins for traffic accident.

It is hard to say at this point what went wrong.
Notwithstanding you aspirin analogy, SAP acknowledges that VBBE (sales order requirements table) becomes out of synch with the other order tables from time to time. Since 1999, when I first began working with SAP ver 3.1, until today, SAP has not stopped this from happening. SAP continues to support SDRQCR21 as a solution to resolve certain cases of inconsistancies. There are a boatload of OSS notes on the subject.
Many companies schedule this report to be run on a regular basis.

Questions about customizing e61i

I just plonked a huge bundle on my e61i and am less than satisfied for what should be a decent Qwerty phone. Here are some questions that I hope the nice experienced folks here can direct me on-
1. Where do I change the menu items for the left and the right key (default: Camera and Notes respectively).
2. Why is the customization of icons on the main home page (desktop?) possible only through the "Stand By" options!!?? What sense does that make?
3. When I take a picture and want to set it as a wallpaper -- it only occupies about 75% of the wallpaper. What is this? How can I make sure that the pictures take up 100% of the wallpaper area?
4. Why is it that speed dial is only for number keys? With a proper qwerty phone, I should be able to do a speed dial with every alphabet and every number! Where can I change this setting?
5. Where can I change the receptivity of the keypad? The keypad is cushiony and when I am typing fast (what else is the point of spending on a qwerty phone?!) I miss many letters. Where can I make the keys more sensitive?
6. In my email, when I mark all email and DELETE, and select "Delete from phone and server", the mails do not get deleted. Neither from the phone nor the server. It is a straightforward pop3 server, and these type of instructions work from every mail client in the world other than on my Nokia phone. How can I make sure that my deletion commands are heeded?
7. How can I import all my feeds from Google Reader into my Nokia e61i? Or is there an OPML reader in the phone? Or what else can I do instead of manually entering the feeds one by one?
Many thanks. All of the above are easily possible with my corporate qwerty phone (you know, the famous one; brand intentionally not mentioned here) so I am hoping this equally expensive Nokia can do at least some of these things!!

3. I think that only the theme picture occupies 100% of the screen area.
4. Speed dial is a common feature for all phones. For Symbian phones (with or without a full keyboard) there is an only application to manage speed dials.
5. I don’t see how one can chage this parameter.
6. My E61 do this job witout any problem.

Boosting wireless reception on iMac G5?
The rural community I live in has recently set up a satellite-based WiFi network for the locals to use. The main signal is brought in, then repeated out to several remote access points within the community. One of these points is directly opposite my house, about 300 yards away. This access point is an Airport Extreme base station, set to repeat out the signal.
I can "see" the nearby access point with both our iMac G5s and also with our iBook. The iBook gets usable signal strength (3 bars), but neither of the G5s get enough signal to be useful (0-2 bars). Both iMacs have Airport Extreme cards. The iBook has a plain Airport card.
I have reseated Airport cards and antennas, and checked for a fully-seated antenna connection. I'm confident this is not the problem. Plastic tab on the antenna lead is removed. I have changed channels several times.
Is there any way to boost the reception of these iMac G5s? Any way to set up an external antenna to improve reception? Any way to setup our network to make this work?
In an ideal world, I'd hope for some solution that all our computers could use, even the iBook. We do have a Windows machine we could use as a network hub, but I'd prefer to keep it in the closet where it belongs.

D-Link DI-524 Wireless routerI've read over and over that reseating the antenna and trying different channels is the way to solve the problem. Apparently, you have to reseat the antenna cable with much more force than you'll probably think is appropriate (check the archives for confirmation of this).
However, I have a question - for those of us with Rev. B iMac G5s, how do we do this? Apple provides instructions for the Rev. A models, but I don't have an Airport card where they show it. Does anyone know, and has anyone successfully reseated it on a Rev. B machine?
