Wi-Fi Sync and Home Sharing problems

I am running Windows 8, I have the last version of iTunes installed, I've got an iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.2 and I face the following problem.
Basically, Wi-Fi Sync, Home Sharing and using Remote app to control iTunes on my PC sometimes stop working for no reason. What I mean is that if I can connect my iPhone to the PC and use all the wireless features and then I turn my PC off, when I turn it back on iTunes just cannot find the device.
The only thing that helped me was turning my router off and back on again but it is a tedious process and I can't do it every time I need to use iTunes.

It didn't work for me.

  • HT4557 Win 7 with iTunes, iPad3 and Home Sharing Problem

    Hi All
I have a Windows 7 PC with iTunes installed and Home Sharing turned on. I also have an IOS 6 Ipad (New or 3) with sharing enabled. They are both on the same wireless network.
After a total uninstall and  fresh instal of iTunes on the PC, all sharing works fine with all albums and artists displayed, and it plays tunes perfectly. Within a couple of days, the iPad only displays a small number of my albums, and they wont play. The 'loudspeaker icon' in 'Music' just skips down the list of songs, playing none.
I have tried, different versions of iTunes, different pcs (with Win 7), a different router but get the same issue each time.
Anyone know what is happening. I did only notice this after the compulsory download of IOS 6....
    Regards
    SjH

I had the exact same problem between my two Windows 7 computers when I updated them to iTunes 10.1 - the shared library would show up on the side in iTunes, but when I attempted to open it, it would say it was loading for a while and then disappear.
I solved the problem by first turning off Home Sharing on both computers Advanced->Turn Off Home Sharing (act name).
I then deauthorized the iTunes account associated with my home share on both computers Store->Deauthorize This Computer...
I then reauthorized both computers Store->Authorize This Computer...
I then turned Home Sharing back on for both computers Advanced->Turn On Home Sharing
After following these steps, I am able to use home sharing again.

  • IOS Remote and Home Sharing problems with iTunes 10.6.3

I'm having a problem with Home Sharing and the iOS Remote app accessing iTunes since the 10.6.3 update. I have the following:
2011 Mac Mini Server running Lion 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.3
    IPhone 4 running iOS 5.1
    iPad 2 running iOS 5.1.1
    Latest model Apple TV
The Remote app on both the iPhone and iPad are unable to connect to the iTunes library on the Mini (the app will just sit there trying to connect but never make a connection). The Apple TV is showing the same behaviour: when I go into 'Computers' it tries to connect to my library without success.
    I've tried a few things:
    1) Turning off and re-enabling Home Sharing on the Mac Mini
    2) Deleting my library in the iOS app and then re-adding it
In both cases this seemed to work at first, but then after a while I was unable to connect again.
I have since discovered that if I quit and restart iTunes on the Mac this seems to resolve the issue on all of the other devices. But again this is a short term fix and after a while they are once again unable to connect.
The Mac Mini is always on and is set to not sleep (although I have to enter the password again after an hour).
At first I thought this might be time related, and that if the Mac had been idle for a while and the drives were 'sleeping' then the issue would occur. However, if I have left the Mac for several hours and then go back to it and login and start something playing in iTunes the other 3 devices still cannot connect even though iTunes is active and reading from the drive. As soon as I restart iTunes they can all see the library again for a while.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks
    Mark

Same thing here except I'm not running server software on the Mac Mini. The Apple support person said that iTunes is the same, server or not. He recommeded setting sleep to never, but I get the same connection problems. I also automatically restart the Mini and relaunch iTunes on startup every morning at 6 AM. And, as with your experience, the only temporary solution is to quit and restart iTunes at the time that I want to connect. Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad all have the same connection problem. My only hope at this point is 10.8. I have to say, 10.7 has never behaved better than a beta release. I hope they took a little more time with Mountain Lion.
Sorry I don't have a solution. I wanted to add my name to the list and hope someone out there has some insight to share.

  • Is anybody else having problems with iOS 7.1 and Home Sharing?

I have two iPhone 4's - one I recently upgraded to iOS 7.1 and the other running 6.3.1. The phone upgraded to 7.1 will not connect to my (rather large iTunes library) on my Mac Mini (running 10.9.2). The 7.1 phone does see the library - and attempts to connect - but the progress indicator stops at about 50%.
I've tried de-activating sharing on the Mini and then re-activating. I've tried restoring the 7.1 phone from a back-up. No change.
Also - now the 6.3 phone will connect to the library - but the playlists have no entries and 99% of the library is missing.
Before the upgrade - the phone now running 7.1 never had any issues with Home Sharing.
Anyone else out there having issues with iOS 7.1 and Home Sharing?

I've had no problems with Facebook on my iPhone 5 but here are a couple of suggestions.
    1. Quit Facebook like I describe then reset the iPhone. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
    2. If the first thing doesn't help, quit Facebook again, delete Facebook, and reset the iPad. After the iPad restarts use the App Store app to download Facebook again.

  • Got problems with iOS7 and home sharing

Got problems with iOS7 and home sharing music. How do you home share music now. I don't have a airplay button either. It all work fine until I updated

I too am haing the same problem.
Oh i have an iphone 4 by the way - if this helps.
I have updated the itunes to 11 point something (latest as of 19th Sept '13) and still not joy.
My phone sees the network, then when i try to connect to it in the "Sharing" spot in music, it gives me the rotating icon and then i get "Unable to Home Share at this time".
I had this problem with the ios 6, which was log out of you apple account, and then turn off the phone -this was supposed to clear all the history and old connection details etc.
Then restart the phone and re-log into itunes account.
As i say - that worked last time, but this time, i have no idea what is going on.
I am looking at reverting back to the ios 6, and waiting for ios 7.1 which to be honest - wont be long away with the amount of issues people are having.

  • Many syncing and e-mail problems.

Hi folks, lots of syncing and e-mail problems here:
Syncing: My phone won't sync iCal (it tells me my phone is disconnected), my safari bookmarks or my email accounts. I've been through the threads here, tried resetting iSync, tried deleting calendars and resetting to 10 days instead of 30 -- still no luck. For e-mail, initially iTunes saw the e-mail accounts but did not sync theml. I tried the one-time advance settings and now it's not even seeing the accounts and still not syncing them. and for Safari, no luck with the bookmarks at all even thought the check-box is checked.
Also, the iPhone won't receive e-mail from any of my POP accounts, even the one I set by hand (because none of the settings synced.) I used the same settings that I have on my desktop, but no luck. I use RoadRunner, so I know I can't send off it. But I went to the genius bar today and they told me to just leave the SMTP server field blank and I should be able to receive, but all I get on wi-fi and edge is a message that says, "Cannot Get Mail, the connection to the server "pop-xxxxxx etc" failed." even on my home netowrk, with five bars, it can't seem to connect. (btw, it does seem to be working properly on my .Mac account, but I don't use that account for most of my correspondence.)
As far as the sync problems, the genius bar told me to reinstall iTunes, which I did with the new update that just came out this evening. Still no luck.
any thoughts? bum phone? some setting I'm not catching? any help would be appreciated.

You will find the iPhone will freak out over any kind of perceived data corruption. Calendars seem to the worst for this (windows or mac)
Test in a new user and try sending info in each direction. If it works - then your phone works fine.
Other users have reported having to basically copy the contents of their calendars into a sticky or text edit window. delete the calendars and create brand new ones. they then just transfer the data back.

Home sharing problem: I have never set up home sharing but I feel I the concept and how it works.  I recently (last 2 months or so) deauthorized, first time ever, all computers with my iTunes account. I have 3 computers authorized.  I am trying to set up home sharing but get  iTunes says:

Can someone help or shed more light on my problem?
    Thanks,

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

  • AirPlay and Home Sharing are no longer working.

Recently, Airplay and Home Sharing stopped working completely from my iMac. There just seems to be a miscommunication- AirPlay is showing up, my Apple TV and Airport Extreme are selectable, but then they wont connect. I've been trying to fiddle around with netword settings to try to fix it but no luck. Still works from my iPhone just fine.
Maybe someone who's Airplay and Home Sharing are working could tell me what their Advanced Network Settings look like?
    Thank you for any help!

Yes I did all the easy stuff first. I even re-installed Mavericks incase a special file was missing. I've totally reset my AirPort Express several times. It's what's transmitting my WiFi and it's super close to my iMac.
It's deffinitely a problem with my iMac seeing as it's not working with both my AirPort Express and Apple TV, also can't access Shared movies on my iPad via Home Sharing so yeah... definitely my iMac. All those other things communicate to eachother just fine.

  • Can't wake Lion over wifi (or ethernet) using iPad and home sharing.

I've upgraded to Lion and everything's fine apart from one problem: using my iPad to access home shared iTunes content on my mac no longer works when my mac is asleep.
That's a change in behaviour from Snow Leopard; I used to be able to sleep my mac and then wake it over wifi using either my iPad or iPhone to access all of my home shared libraries.  The mac screen used to light up for ten seconds and then go dark again, but it served me the files.
Lion seems to go into a deeper sleep which it can't be woken from.  If I attempt to wake my mac from my iPad within about ten minutes of putting my mac to sleep then home sharing seems to work and lets me use the home share libraries, but if I leave it any longer than that then the mac seems to fall into a coma and can't be woken.  The weird thing is that I still see a "shared library" folder on my iPad, but when I click on it nothing happens.  I think my Time Capsule is listening for wifi access and issuing the magic packet to the mac, but the mac just ain't listening.
I'm using a Time Capsule in bridge mode from an ADSL modem and I've accepted a TC firmware update last week and I'm on lion 10.7.3.  I've tried using Ethernet to connect the mac to the TC (and temporarily disabled the wifi connection) but that still doesn't work.  Also, note I'm NOT suffering from the problem that 10.7.3 seems to be giving a few other people - my mac reconnects to my wifi just fine when I wake it up manually.  For the record, This was an upgrade, so there's still a tick in "wake on network" in power settings and home sharing on iTunes is still configured the same as it was before.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can get home sharing to work when my Lion mac is asleep please?
    Jon

    Jonathan:
The reworked release of the Combo came available the 2-nd or 3-rd of Feb, if you downloaded 10.7.3 complete after that date it will be OK already, no need to instal the Combo. But you can see the exact number of 10.7.3 in System Information/ Software panel: it should be 11D50b.....
    fzahn:
I understand, I have TC and Extreme also, no need to set anything. And indeed I understand that it may be important for (as it is for me),
BUT even if it worked after you replaced the kext, I advise strongly not to read in an old kext over a new one, that may give other issues (you observed one already: Airdrop)... I hope you backed up the Lion one... for example such "replacing" was done in one (lousy) tool called TrimEnabler (to install Trim on a non-Apple SSD in the SnowLeopard OS): it replaced the whole kext. I read that there is a new version for Lion that just replaces the text piece that regards the identification for the Apple SSD's.... I do not dare to use such methods.... I advise to read the kext and compare the two (SL and Lion) and perhaps find a way to just replace the one string that is different (be sure it is precisely the same  lenth in caracters)...  BTW: after every update of Lion you have to do it again probably. Keep searching for a better way to solve your problem.
Did you do the firmware update of the TC and Extreme already?
BTW: there are two Airport Utilities for Lion: Airport Utility 5.6 and Airport Utility 6, the 5.6 is the "old" visual but in the new one 6 you can not change as many settings; if you want them both, change the name of the one you already have by putting the version number at the end of its name in Utilities, and install the other one, it will be installed additional not over.

  • Solution for Apple TV 2, Xfinity router, Ethernet connection and Home Sharing

I have read over the past week the problems people have been having configuring their Apple TV and Home Sharing. I was experiencing the same issues as others....until tonight. I finally got it to work with an Ethernet connection. Previously, I was only able to get it to work via wifi and home sharing would drop after awhile.
    1) Xfinity router settings. Like others I was suspicious if the Xfinity router was causing the issues because of the separation between wifi network and Ethernet network. It's not the router problem. I disabled the firewall. Enabled port forwarding. Gave a static IP address to the Apple TV. Added forwarding of ports
       123 TCP
3689 UDP (all other support says this should be TCP but searched through and found a thread that suggested changing to UDP...this was the key)
        5353 UDP
        80 TCP
        443 TCP
        53 TCP
    DMZ is off
    Device discovery is disabled
    Port triggering is disabled.
The wifi is setup and functional using DHCP. Lease time is 1 week.
    RESET ROUTER AFTER ENTERING CONFIGURATION.
    2) Mac computer. As of this posting the latest version of iTunes installed. Latest Safari version. All programs updated. Turned on Home Sharing. Turned off firewall. Gave Mac a static IP address. Set Mac for hard drive to never sleep. Set monitor to sleep after 15 minutes. Set date and time to automatically find based upon time zone. ( Apple TV needs to be set to the same time zone as computer and set to manual). Enabled file sharing amongst users on Mac.
    3) Apple TV. Ethernet connection. Configured TCP/IP to static IP address  I configured on router for the Apple TV. Turned on AirPlay. Set date and time to manual and set as the same time zone as the computer with iTunes. Turned on Home Sharing. Using latest version of Apple TV.
Once the router was reset ( not restored and not just resetting the wifi. A complete router reset), the Apple TV found my iTunes library. It's been running now for over an hour and no drop in the home sharing. Working beautifully. I will be testing in the next couple days allowing the Apple TV to sleep, turning the firewall on the router to a minimal setting to see if it changes anything.
Just tested the AirPlay from my iPad 2 to the Apple TV while the Apple TV is connected via ethernet connection and it works. At this point it appears that the setup is correct and complete with no errors.
As a side note, the Ethernet connection between my router and Mac is via commercial devices using the power outlets as the wiring.
Hope this helps many of you that were/ are struggling to get this to work like I was.

    spma3,
Appreciate your further message. As you say "it's not fixed", but at least your solution appears to be a viable workaround!
My Cisco RVS4000 Router will permit me to forward ports for up to 15 applications. Of these, thirteen already have default entries added, although none of these are presently Enabled. For example, here's just 2 lines...
    Application           HTTP        NTP
    External Port          80           123
    Internal Port           80            123
    Protocol                TCP          UDP
IP Address            No entries at both
and the Enabled box for both is unchecked. In fact none of these 13 possibilities is Enabled.
To do what you are advising, I would need to...
    1) Enable the above Port 123 entry, changing it from UDP-->TCP.
    2) Add new entries for 3689 UDP & 5353 UDP... using the two free slots at the end of the table.
    3) Select three of the default entries, and reconfigure them for 80 TCP; 443 TCP; 53 TCP, all as per your guidance. And Enable them.
Now, my present setup here has...
    1) My PC is wired straight to Port 2 of the Router, and has a Static IP Address set.
My new ATV2 is hard-wired into the same subnet, albeit thru a series of switches, and again a Static IP is set. My understanding is that hard wiring an ATV automatically disables its WiFi.
    3) My wife's iPad2 is set for DHCP, so it can pick up an IP Address when on the move. It connects into the LAN using one of two WAP4410N Wireless Access Points. Ch-1 & Ch-6, with same SSID and security stuff set up on both. The WAPs in turn are wired in, again with Static IPs set. So depending where she is in the property she can connect with excellent signal strength, reaching the ATV2  by WiFi+LAN.
On the Router DMZ is OFF, Port Range Triggering has no entries, nothing is Enabled, so is OFF. No idea about Device Discovery!
Home Sharing is ON for the PC, ATV2 and iPad2, with the same Apple ID/Password set for each. It does work, just not consistently as it should.
So to fully implement your idea, all I need to do is to enter these details. But I am unclear which IP Address I should put in at each new Single Port Forwarding entry field. Certainly not the iPad2, as its DHCP allocated value will change. Is it the ATV2 or the PC? Not sure, please clarify.
BTW, I have no plan to deactivate my AVG Firewall on this PC. It is happy to pass all traffic related to iTunes, so cannot see this as a factor. Time zone same on all equipment.
I tried with just 3689 UDP and 5353 UDP yesterday, and things were definitely better. I used 192.168.20.227, the IP Address for the ATV2.
    Look forward to your answer.

  • IPhone Home Sharing problems

Here is my home sharing problem.  I have 3 devices, a MacBook Air, a PC running Windows 7, and an iPhone 4.  All software is up to date.  ITunes is installed on both computers, and the exact same Apple ID and password have been entered for home sharing on all devices.  The iPhone's music library will NOT show up in any of the Home Sharing folders in the other computers.  However, the Mac and PC libraries DO show up in the iPhone, so the password is correctly entered.  All computers have been activated and reactivated, restarted, iTunes reinstalled, my router has been reset, firmware up to date.  Music from the other computers can be played through Home Sharing on the iPhone, but the iPhone library will not show up in the other computers.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance!

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

You would have to use home-sharing if streaming from a computer. Computer would need to be on and running iTunes.
