Wi-Fi Upgrade to 5GHZ

Hi, I would like to upgrade my Wi-Fi interface from 802.11b|g|n with channel 1 and 2.4GHZ frequency to 802.11a|g|n and frequency 5GHZ because of a new router i had installed. Is it possible?

Unfortunately, it isn't possible for the HP 655.
Chapter 3 of the service manual for your notebook at the link below only lists 2.4 GHz cards.

On HP notebooks made prior to around mid-2013, HP employed a BIOS whitelist, which only permitted the cards listed in the service manual to work.
Were you to install any other card, the notebook will report an unsupported wireless card error, and refuse to boot until the unsupported wlan card is removed.

    Hello edspyhill09. Did you reset and reconfigure the E2500 after the firmware update? Also, try to access the router's user interface and check if the 5.0 GHz network's SSID broadcast has been disabled. To access the interface, click on this link:

    I'm currently got a Intel Centrino WIreless-N 2330 chip in my  HP DV6-7080eb. I would like to upgrade to 5Ghz and i'm wondering what chip whould be compatible with my system.

    There are no compatible dual-band cards I am distressed to say. Your laptop has the dreaded BIOS "whitelist" which blocks installation of all but a handful of wifi cards.     I've been using my WRT610N (hardware version 1) for years running firmware version 1.00.00.18.
    I always used the 5Ghz SSID from laptops, iPad and iPhone and never bothered about the 2.4Ghz SSID.
    Due to more frequent "cannot connect to <5Ghz SSID>" problems recently I decided to upgrade to the latest firmware version (1.00.03.15). Immediately since this firmware upgrade, the 5Ghz SSID is invisible to all devices except (strangely) my iPad. All other devices see only the 2.4 Ghz SSID.
    I've tried switching channels etc. but to no avail.
    Clearly, the firmware upgrade is the only thing here that changed but I'm at a loss to get the 5Ghz SSID back into action.
    Anyone has an idea what's wrong here? The only remedy I can think of is to revert back to the old firmware version but somehow that feels wrong.

    Try setting 5GHz network as "Wireless-N only" instead of MIXED. That should help resolve this issue.

  • How can i fix my wifi and bluetooth issues in yosemite?

    Hi, after upgrading to Yosemite I've noticed that my bluetooth trackpad (Logitech t651) and wifi connection are having serious conflicts which result in sluggish trackpad response or occasional wifi connection drops.
    I would have some occasional sluggishness with my trackpad in Mavericks but it would never lead to dropping of my wifi connection. Here is a little more about my configuration, my wifi connection is 2.4ghz, I have read that upgrading to 5GHZ would solve this problem but this would of course require me to purchase a new router which I would like to avoid. I have noticed that if i turn off my wifi, my trackpad is 100% smooth and responsive so the two issues are definitely connected. Does anyone have solution to fix this problem that doesn't include changing the wifi broadcast channel (which I've already tried), switching to 5GHZ, or utilizing an ethernet connection? Thanks

    I think I'm having a similar problem, my wifi disconnects when a bluetooth device is connected to the MBA. 
    I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) with WiFi and Apple Trackpad.  I'm unable to use the trackpad(bluetooth) and wifi at the same time.  If I turn off the trackpad then the wifi works fine and if I shutoff the wifi then the trackpad works fine.  This configuration was working fine prior to upgrading to Yosemite.
    I experienced the same problem at home and at the office.
    Additional test:
    I turned off the bluetooth trackpad and connected my bluetooth headphones to the MBA.  The wifi disconnected as soon as I paired the headphones with the MBA.
    I have had no problems with the MBA's keyboard or integrated trackpad.

    I'm looking for a laptop that will last me a couple of years which is why I'm upgrading to SSD without losing performance. I usually game on my Mac so I want a laptop to handle that, handle programs in the background and writing or reading without losing speed, I also need a laptop that has fast boot time.
    I will be using the laptop mainly for school and running programs such as iWork and mircrosoft office as well as websurfing and video streaming thanks for any advice.

    I hope others pipe in with their comments, but the first suggestion is to visit your local Apple Store and try out the units. Trying them out can make a difference in your decision.
    This is how I'd try to make sense of this:
    MBP 13 2012:
    Solid all-purpose portable at a decent price, and even has a 240GB SSD. If you don't load it with tons to videos, this will more than fit your needs as a student and websurfer. A little heavier than the others here, but it's a solid package that's stable. Great if you need to use the CD/DVD.
    MBA 13 2012:
    Also good, similar specs, notably lighter. Notes are easy to take, and easier to carry on long campus treks. If you're not near a power source, the battery life may be a concern. If you need a CD/DVD, you can connect it when you need it - but it's extra. Servicing a MBA is more difficult.
    MBR 15 2012:
    Beautiful display, packed with performance. No DVD/CD drive, NVIDIA performance is unproven, kind of pricey, the first generation of a device; it's going to get better over time. Can't be serviced in any way by the user; the Apple Store is your only option. Now's not the best time to get the MBR.
    MBR 13 2012:
    Same comments.
    I'd say the MBA is a good pick. Few moving parts, therefore more reliability. Low heat. You can always attach a CD/DVD drive via USB. Intel Graphics is solid; no problems there. Plenty of capacity for your needs. And the display is bright. MBA 13 or 11, IMO.

  • Dim VGA with new mini ?

    I'm probably breaking all kind of rules (don't mean to) If you have the upgraded 1.5GHz mini with the 64MB VRAM, I have a question for you. Do you use a CRT monitor with a VGA connection? And if so, is your display bright with nice colors and contrast, or are you experiencing the well-documented dim VGA problem ?
    I'm thinking of getting a mini for myself at home, but I don't want to buy a new LCD monitor at this time when I have a nice 17" VGA display.Up to this point, Apple has done nothing to address this issue, which stems from an inadequate output voltage. I'm hoping that along with the increase in VRAM with the 1.5GHz upgrade, Apple also might have fixed the voltage problem.

    Same problem with my ipad air with ios 8.02, lost connectivity with 5Ghz band. It works for about 5 seconds, then hangs in Safari, email, etc. When I connect to 2.4 ghz band, it all works fine. Please fix this. Thank you.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot connect to my Airport Extreme on the 5GHz band (2.4GHz works fine)...what's going on?

    I have been having intermittent/no wireless success on the 5GHz band of my Airport Extreme.  I'm on an iMac early 2008.  It was working fine before upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I have tried many things (deleting the wireless network, readding it, changing settings on the AirPort Extreme, deleting the 5GHz network on that and readding it, running diagnostics) but nothing has fixed it.  I can switch to the 2.4GHz band and it works flawlessly.  This must be a software problem since it only started happening when I upgraded the OS.

    No it isn't, I have tried 4 different mountain lion machines connected to a 5Ghz and it works just fine. It is with your machine hence we need to fix it
    create a new location and see if that fixes your issue, If not trash Macintosh HD/Library/System Configuration
    That is a folder so trash it > restart the computer > create a new location

  • 5GHz channels no longer available after upgrading to 10.7.3

    I'm currently using Late-2009 iMac and for some reason after upgrade to 10.7.3 I couldn't connect to any 5GHz network at all. In the System Profiles, Wi-Fi menu now says:

    Interesting. If you can still connect via wired (or 2.4GHz wireless), I would download the 10.7.3 combo update from apple support and reapply it. It appears the driver and family did not fully install with the update.

    Hello everyone.
    I have been having this issue for a few months now and nothing works to resolve it. The biggest issue is that iTunes videos constantly stutter ever few seconds, the audio portion of the video is not effected. The most I have open at once is Safari, Skype, and iTunes, and possibly Open Office. Videos will even stutter with nothing else open other than iTunes. At times it sounds like the computer is running something in the background from hard drive noise.
    I even upgraded the RAM to 8GB and it still has this problem! Nothing looks wrong in Activity Monitor other than occasionally the memory usage spikes up to 6GB, but even then the memory pressure graph is green. I dont understand how these non-intensive programs can use that much. The hard drive is barely 1/3 full.
    Please help with a solution as nothing has worked so far. Thanks!

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

    Based on the information that you have supplied, you have a Early or Late 2008 MBP.  Maximum RAM that it will accept is 6 GB with the following specifications:   200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
    The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

    I've been using a 5ghz connection for a few months now with no problem. I've just upgraded to software version 5.1 (5201) and 5ghz no longer works - I just get a message saying no connectivity. 2.4ghz still works but is not ideal due to other competing traffic. Anyone else have the same problem?

  • 5GHz wireless unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0

    My 5GHz wireless is unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0.  I did a complete reconfiguration of the router after upgrading.  Anyone one have any ideas on how to fix this?

    I carefully followed the steps suggested.  I did a 30 - 30 - 30 second hard reset of the router, reflashed the firmware, then did another 30 - 30 -30 second hard reset.  Then I carefully reconfigured the router manually.  Still no 5GHz radio.  I then called Cisco support and they took me through severaltests, configuration checks, and reconfiguration steps.  They agreed that the 5GHz radio was not working.  I will be sending it back for warranty repair/replacement.
    I configured my Verizon cable router wireless so I could take the Cisco router out of service.  I don't have the dual radios or the guest channel.
    I think I may buy a wireless AP that is rated for small business usage.  I'm not sure the "home user" wireless routers are sufficiently robust for what now is home use.

    and in About this Mac it shows only one being used and the other space empty.
    Wanted to know:
    *The empty space is not being used really or even if working with 16gb it will never show?? Cause I've placed it correctly when changing the memory.
    *If not being used is it better to keep with 2x4GB or 1 x 8Gb?

    A 2012 MBP will accept 16 GB RAM.
    About this Mac it shows only one being used and the other space empty.
    Test by reversing the chips and trying then one a time in both slots.  It may be that one chip is faulty.  Also test the slots by installing the original RAM.
