WIA import direct into Photoshop *NO FILE CREATED*

This is driving me nuts and I cannot seem to find anything regarding it. I'd use TWAIN happily, but my scanner doesn't seem to have a 64-bit twain driver. So I'm stuck with WIA. But, the thing that drives me crazy is that WIA always creates the file with an arbitrary name and format which I always end up having to delete later. I much preferred the old TWAIN method that just scanned it directly to Photoshop without any file made until you saved it from Photoshop. So, this may actually be more of a Windows M$ question than Photoshop, but I'm giving it a shot here.
Is there anyway to scan directly into Photoshop CS4 64-bit without WIA creating a file at all?

There are no 64 bit TWAIN drivers on Windows.
I think the WIA interface from Microsoft always creates an intermediary file.

With Lightroom 4 I can't read any .DNG files directly into Photoshop CS. I have"camera raw 2.4" selected in LR and the Plug-in for CS is Camera Raw.8BI.
Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you tried a different DNG converter? Adobe released Adobe DNG Converter 5.3 in March of this year. Maybe, if it supports your camera, this version will create a more compatible file.

  • RAW files open directly into Photoshop

Odd issue here: when launching RAW files they open directly into Photoshop. Either Camera Raw gets bypassed or it just processes them on the fly.
This happens after a bit of usage, re-launching Photoshop solves the problem for the next few files.
This happens if I launch the RAW files from the Finder, Bridge or Photomechanic. Only the right-click on my mouse in Bridge will show the option of opening images in Camera Raw.
This is driving us nuts here. Happens on 4 work stations.
RAW files are mostly CR2's. Mac OS 10.4.10

Are you using PhotoKit or PhotoKit Sharpener? If so, this is a known issue with the previous builds...go to the CS3 Beta page and redownload the current builds.

If you AREN'T usinf PhotoKit or Sharpener, try resetting your Bridge preferences and purging the cache.

Problem solved ............  as I sort of suspected.
Today I acquired another card reader and guess what, FCP X imports the 50p footage perfectly.
The findings I get with my Panasonic SD800, which are probably representative of most cameras are as follows:-
    1. When the camera is plugged into my iMac, FCP X will only recognise and import normal AVCHD video but not 1080/50p even when shot on a separate card.
    2. With the SDHC card plugged into a card reader, FCP X recognises and imports 1080/50p
    3. Also when using the card reader, there is no problem mixing AVCHD and 1080/50p on the same card as FCP X recognises both sets of clips simultaneously.

  • CS6, how do I open files in Bridge directly into Photoshop? [was: Stan Spur]

CS6, how do I open files in Bridge directly into Photoshop. The default is File Viewer or there is an option to open in Adobe RAW.

Look at the down pointing arrow to the right of Photoshop CC in the list. Clicking on it shows a list of programs to select from.
Windows OS level or "in Windows" as opposed to "in Bridge".

  • I can't import videos into Photoshop CS6?

I just ripped a whole load of Doctor Who episodes, and I have been wanting to make .gifs of them, but every time I try to import them into Photoshop (file > import > video frames into layers (how I normally make gifs)), I get a message saying, "Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened". I don't know why this is happening, because Photoshop normally opens .avi files and all I want is to make .gifs of these Doctor Who episodes.

You should open your Dr. Who episode in adobe flash or premier pro. Probably you need to covert it. You could use the adobe media encoder. Photoshop cs6 has "intuitive Video creation" and you have to bring in the video as a mp3. I never tried it   As Photoshop is an image editing app and not created to open Video files so you could probbably use Premiere to export the individual frames and then open those in Photoshop.

  • Importing directly to Photoshop

I would like to know how to import pictures directly into photoshop. Currently the photos I import go to IPhoto, and then I have to find the right file. Not only is this more time consuming than I'd like it is difficult to find the files sometimes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! thank you-Ryan

What do you mean, exactly, by saying "import pictures directly into Photoshop"? It doesn't store any photos, unless you're confused by the companion application, Organizer, that's available only for Win machines.
You wouldn't have to import into iPhoto if you don't want to, either. A folder system on your hard drive might work better for you, and then you can navigate to the location of your pictures through Elements. PSE 3.0 still have the Browser, and PSE 4.0 for the Mac uses Adobe Bridge. Or, maybe you need to look into the little freeware app, iPhoto Buddy, which gives you more options for making iPhoto more user friendly.
Personally, I put all of my new digital camera images in a folder on my desktop, then I look at them and decide which ones to trash and what to do with those I want to keep.
There are options available, so it really becomes a matter of picking a workflow that you feel comfortable using. Importing into PS doesn't happen to be one of them, though.

  • How do i scan from canon 9000f directly into photoshop cc?

Just purchase Canon 9000f scanner and I don't want to use the "my image garden". I want to scan directly into Photoshop CC, but can't figure it out.

For the Mac version of Photoshop, there is File > Import > Images from Device...   Auto Selection is set to "Detect Separate Items". Do you have that option?  (Mavericks 10.9.4)
Is that what you are looking for?  It will scan the two maps separately and bring them in to Photoshop CC 2014 as scan.png and scan1.png

  • Shortcut to open RAW image directly into Photoshop

Isn't there a keyboard/mouse shortcut that will allow someone to open a RAW image from within Lightroom directly into Photoshop...and in the process, bypass the 'Edit Type Options' dialog (i.e. Edit Original; Edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments; Edit Copy)??
I could have sworn that I had read somewhere in Martin Evening's Lightroom for Photographers 1.1 addendum that there was a way to do this (I recall it was something along the lines of holding down the option/alt key while choosing 'Edit in Photoshop from the contextual menu, or maybe it was a direct hotkey that could be entered simply by selecting the image and pressing the defined hotkey) - or maybe I am crazy and I am totally making this up :O
Anyone know what the magic password is for this?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

    Wow!
Michael D Sullivan...Part of me really wants to strangle you right now...but, I will resist, as I am not the type to flame people on forums/chat groups...those people are lame...
Nonetheless, you are completely missing my point...STILL!!
    You had mentioned:
    >The only way to open a RAW file in Photoshop directly is through Camera Raw.
Really? Come on dude...You don't think I knew that...my grandmother who has never used Photoshop in her life knows that much...Try to extrapolate meaning from someone's post prior to writing back with a ridiculous response like that...
Then you went on to say:
    >It's that or convert it to a TIFF/PSD file and edit in Photoshop.
Yahtzee! Someone give this guy a cigar! (i.e. Yes Michael, this is what I meant)...Let's review my response to the initial (legitimate) confusion about the post I'd started this thread with...shall we?
I responded to the intial confusion (Posts #2, #3) about my original post (Post #1) by saying:
    >I would like to have a way in which, using a keyboard/mouse shortcut of some sort, I could open a RAW file
WITH THE LIGHTROOM ADJUSTMENTS APPLIED, directly into Photoshop, thereby bypassing the 'Edit with Photoshop CS3' options window all-together (and in the process of opening this RAW file, obviously Lightroom would convert the RAW image into a TIFF file...)
I am sorry Michael, but I don't think I can dumb this down any further...I even went so far as to state:
    >"(and in the process of opening this RAW file, obviously Lightroom would convert the RAW image into a TIFF file...)".
I hope you were in a bad mood and just felt like being a d&#k when you responded to that post with:
    >"Read my post, #2. There's no copy involved. The only way to open a RAW file in Photoshop directly is through Camera Raw."
Do you honestly think I didn't understand that? Do you still honestly not get what I am talking about?
Let me give you a visual...
Have a look at this screenshot
    Then view this one
Have we reached Nirvana yet? Do we feel enlightened? Have we gained any more clarity on the situation yet?
If not, then you're wasting my time!
If so...well...there's not going to be an if so, is there Michael? I figure that the chances of you responding to this post with anything meaningful is unlikely at best...
    Oh well...Have a nice day!

  • Crashes while importing TIFFs.  Also, how to import directly into an album?

Just got Aperture last night in the mail. Upgraded to 1.1.1.
I have about 250 CDs with TIFF images that I've created over the years. The TIFF files were created by a Nikon film scanner. Some of those images were later re-touched and re-saved using Photoshop.
In any event, I started importing all those CDs into Aperture to consolidate all my photographs in one place. On the first CD, Aperture crashed unexpectedly for no reason. The Aperture database would also get corrupted and I would have to delete it, and start from scratch.
Here's what I discovered. If I wait for Aperture to generate a thumbnail of all the images in the CD before I click on the "Import All" button, there are four images in the CD for which Aperture does not generate a thumbnail. Furthermore, if I tried to import the same CD into iPhoto, all files but those four would get imported. At least iPhoto doesn't crash, and after the import is finished it would tell me that four photographs could not be imported because the format was not recognized. The interesting thing is that Photoshop can open every single file on the CD (again, all of them are TIFF images)
So my (painful) workaround is to import all my CDs into iPhoto first, and then import into Aperture from iPhoto, which works very well. That way the Aperture repository doesn't get corrupted.
So, question 1: does anybody know if there's a special setting in Aperture that would stop it from crashing and gracefuly skip over any photographs that it can't recognize?
Question 2: I want to import every single CD into its own album so I later know what CD I can find the image on. Aperture seems to import always onto the project, not the album. Is there a way around this?
When I import into iPhoto, I create an empty album and then drag the files from the CD onto that album. If I then import the iPhoto album into Aperture, Aperture automatically creates an album, which is nice. I'd love to do the same but with iPhoto out of the picture (excuse the pun). That would speed up the import process tremendously.
    Thanks for your help,
    Julian

    Are there two questions here?
    1. You can indeed create an album under a Project in advance and Import direct to that. One Album per CD? Works fine. Just point the Import Arrow at the Album. NOTE: the Masters are actually held in the Project (this is true across Aperture) and Pointers are held in the Album .... but the effect is of Albums with photos > Project containing all the photos.
    2. These TIF files are not corrupt, if Photoshop or iPhoto opens them. This has got to be an Aperture bug and I have the same issues with TIF's. Created a thread about it, so I hope the Aperture development team did read it (please, please, please). You could convert in Photoshop to .PSD vs. resaving (unless this is what you did) as I haven't noted this problem with .PSD files

  • Importing Albums into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC

Has anyone had experience in importing a series of Albums - created in Photoshop Elements (6) for Windows - into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC?  I have thousands of photos, arranged into separate Albums, that were created in Photoshop Elements for Windows and which were backed up onto an external harddrive, that I want to move into Photoshop Elements 8 for MAC.  However, I do not see how to do this. HELP!!!

    Dear Ms. Brundage -
I followed the directions detailed in your blog entitled "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" as well as your description of the process on page 58 of your book "Photoshop Elements 9 - the missing manual."
I installed PE9 for Windows and converted my catalog.  I then backed up that catalog to an external hard drive.  I then connected the hard drive to my MAC on which I also installed Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC.  I opened the Organizer and tried to restore that converted catalog.  However, for each file in the converted catalog, a dialog box opened that said "Could not restore file:  /Volumes/Name of External Hard Drive/Filename.JPG."
I then made a second backup of the converted catalog using Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and then tried to restore that catalog again on the MAC using Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC, again to no avail.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?
    Thanks again.

  • Importing Multi-Layered Photoshop CS2 files...

Hello again everyone. I trust you are all well.
I am currently constructing some tutorials for my Video Editing class and I am trying to demonstrate how to import and use Multi-layered Photoshop CS2 files inside Final Cut Express 2.0.3.
    Here is the problem:
My iBook is running Final Cut Express 2.0.3 but does not have Adobe Photoshop CS2 on it. My DELL PC is running Adobe Photoshop CS2 and I am creating my PSD's on that and then transfering those PSD's across to the iBook with either my USB stick or my iPod.
Now according to the Final Cut Express 2.0.3 Help file, "When you import a layered Photoshop File into Final Cut Express, the file becomes a sequence in your project".
However, when I import my PSD, that was created on my DELL in Photoshop CS2, into Final Cut Express 2.0.3, it does not import it as a sequence, but as a flattened still image.
Is this because I need to have Photoshop CS2 installed on my iBook for the PSD to be imported correctly as a sequence, retaining the layers, or is there a compatability issue with creating PSD's on a PC and then trying to import them into Final Cut Express 2.0.3?
    Regards,
    Justin Pamenter
    Multimedia Teacher

Thanks for your quick reply Tom!
I had a feeling this might be the case after I did some more testing with Photoshop files created on a MAC. If I resave those PC Photoshop files on a Mac in Photoshop, they import correctly as a sequence into Final Cut Express.
    Thanks again for the advice!

  • Is there an easier way? Import directly into a playlist?

I am in the middle of ripping all of my 5000+ cd's into iTunes as Apple Lossless files. I'm creating a music server with a Mac Mini, a few 1TB firewire hard drives & a Fubar II dac. I have about 500 done so far and it is becoming a handful. I insist on using playlists because I listen to lots of weird music with a lot of the artists using aliases so I want to be able to group them all together.
This is what I've been doing. I create a few hundred blank playlists. I import my cd making any changes first using command & I. I then scroll down to where all the untitled playlists are. I then have to scroll all the way to where the songs that were imported are listed alphabetically.I choose them using shift & the mouse dragging them to an untitled playlist. I do it this way because if I found by titling the playlist while it was importing and placing it where it sits alphabetically I was taking to much time trying to drag those tracks to the correct playlist. I was also occasionally dropping them in the wrong playlist altogether.
Is there really no way to automatically create a playlist using the artist and album info that you set up or what is automatically generated with cddb? Or can I really not create what I want my playlist to be titled and import the cd directly into it? I can't seem to solve this by using a smart playlist either. Any recommendations?

Here's what I've been doing for years. Its against the grain but so what.
I have 10,000 ripped files. From this I selected 2265 mp3 files(call these my Favorites) which always get "added to library" whenever I re-do my computer(s) which is very often(my hobby).
I use the Finder to organize my Music first not itunes. So I make folders and call them for example Metal, Jazz, etc ...within these folders become Artist names for example Beatles, Who , etc....I delete anything that is ahead of the name of the song(such as track number, its embedded anyway), Why? so it fits better in the smallish 'window' of music car player, etc...So what do I have ? A folder with 2265 mp3 files without track numbers and only my favorite mp3 files.
When I re-do the computer I just set up itunes always unchecking in "advanced preferences" for it to organize and make copies. I do that not itunes. I add to the library. Wait for itunes to do its thing. Set the view options. The only ones I do are, Artist, Album, bitrate, size, Grouping, time & equalizer.
Once the add is done I do that not itunes automatically, I focus on the Grouping. Examples are Metal, Folk, Smooth Jazz, etc I set these up years ago using itunes. The mp3 hold these id tags except equalizer. I select the Grouping column to arrange the sort, takes 1 second. Then do a select all by grouping and an command + i to set each Grouping equalizer all in one shot. When Equalizer function is completed for all the files then I make playlists. My Playlist is the same name as Grouping, for example Metal Grouping gets Metal playlist. That way I can find the entire Group of Metal and drag them to the playlist. All this sounds complicated, but how to explain? The entire process when I re-do my Mac takes 5 to 10 minutes. The hard work is setting up your MP3 files in the Finder but once done you only need to back up those files. iTunes is out of it. Lastly make sure you id3 tag your files when done in the itunes library using view and setting options. Make sure you drag these tagged files back to your original drive where you back them up. So they retain their tags you gve them.
    Hope this helps

  • Scanning directly into Photoshop Elements 8 from Officejet 5740

I just installed an Officejet 5740 All-In-One. I did the standard install and am able to print fine. I would like to be able to scan directly into Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 running on Mac OSX 10.10. When I go to the File>Import menu, the new device doesn't show up. Is there something else that I need to install or configure for this to work?

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are experiencing issues when scanning from your HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer to Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 on your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this scanning issue. Now, your product is fully supported when scanning through the HP Scan software and the Mac Scan software on your computer. Therefore, to start troubleshooting I would like you to confirm that the supported software functions with your machine. Can I please have you follow the steps below.  To start troubleshooting please click here. Once the support document opens please click the drop down for 'Scanning a Photo or Document'. Next, follow the steps listed to complete the scan under the supported HP Scan or HP Utility Software.  If the scanner fails to perform under the HP software then a driver issue may be occuring. Should this be the case please follow the steps below to confirm that the correct HP Officejet driver is being utilised by your printer and not the Apple Airprint driver.
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences. 2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. 3. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer.  4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, 5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that the Officejet driver is selected and not the Airprint.   6. Click Add to add the printer to the list.  Once the printer has been confirmed as installed with the HP driver, please test scanning through the HP Scan software again. Once you're able to scan successfully through the HP Scan software please test scanning through the Adobe Photoshop software again.  Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Importing photos into PhotoShop Elements 9

Hi. Im very new to photoshop software. Any software for that matter
I have about 15000 photos in windows gallery that i initially imported into PSE. But since doing that, as PSE was soooo slow, i went back to windows gallery and cleaned up and organised my photos there, putting them in the correct sub folders, thinking they would automatically update in PSE. This doesnt seem to be the case. Can anyone assist me in how to import photos into PSE, and once they are imported, can i delete from windows gallery ? Oh and any otehr tips for a newbie is appreciated
    Thanks heaps!!

    Hi
Im sorry, but i dont completely understand your answer, although it was a little helpful.
The first sentence you advised to make sub folders in windows program.
Im pretty sure thats what ive done. But i thought it would automatically update to PSE. You mentioned it would not. Thankyou for that part.
I have cleared/re organised my windows picture folders and organised them into sub folders but when i went into PSE the old pic files and folders were showing there - except they advised no picture or data is available.
So this confuses me as there is too much files in PSE now and i cant seem to get rid of them.
The other concern is the new photos i have loaded into windows pictures program, how do i get them into PSE. This is really hard to explain in email., so i do apologise if i dont make sense or repeat myself.
But my main concern is if PSE doesnt update why does it keep old pic folders in the program if nothing is available.
i tried to uninstall and then reinstall and start teh program all over again with my newly organised windows folders but the old stuff remianed even though i uninstalled the program ????
    Thanks
