Wich ram and which SSD would people recommend me to upgrade to?

I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2010. 2.66ghz intel i7. And I am about to upgrade my ram from 4 to 8, and changing my hard drive to SSD. Wich ram and which SSD would people recommend?

I like both Crucial RAM and Crucial SSDs. Maybe because that's what I own and have never had any problems with either. Some people like OWC but I find that they are overpriced for the same, or similar, products from Crucial.
Visit the Crucial website and click on the System Scanner tab. Download, unzip and run a small app that will report your model # information back to Crucial and you'll be presented with recommended upgrades for your particular model.
Note that you can sometimes find the same Crucial items for a couple of bucks cheaper on Amazon.
Good luck,
Clinton

I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.

  • Upgrading RAM and maybe SSD

Alright, so I have a HP Pavilion Touchsmart 14 Sleekbook. I want to have a little more speed and capacity. I would like to upgrade my RAM and SSD, but I have no clue on the maximum capacity on this computer. If you all could help me out, I would greatly appreciate that. Also, any recommendations for the brand or sub categories would also be appreciated.Thank you all!!

    Hi again,
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03721290
    Specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-14-Sleekbook/5355021/model/5438123/document/c0389800...
You can upgrade upto 8GB maximum according to the Specs page and Manual. And your laptop already had 4gigs in one slot.
There are 2 customer-accessible slots available & you can buy one more exactly identical 4GB RAM preferably same brand for the upgrade & both can act in Dual-channel configuration for better performance.
About the RAM frequency, the user guide does not give reliable information for Celeron processors. So better you find that from BIOS setup f10, soon after powering on the laptop or running CPUZ program tool.
    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Crucial has an online scanner which detects and lists compatible upgrades guaranteed in your system, you can run that and probably purchase one from them.
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner
You can replace HDD with SSD of similar form factor - 2.5 inch SATA 7mm thick. A 250gb or above Samsung Evo SSD would be good in my opinion. Cloning the HDD to SSD would be preferable if you don't want to do a clean install. You could also use Recovery USB you must have created initially to factory reset laptop after SSD upgrade.
If you don't have recovery media, you could create one now preferably in a 32gb good branded USB (avoid Sandisk):
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03481733
If you've upgraded Windows 8 to 8.1 , recovery partition might have become corrupted , this ordering Recovery USB is the option left.
See Page 54-56, 66, 67 Chapter 5 in the Manual & you can see that, for installing SSD, memory module you have to take the System motherboard out. Its better you give it to nearest HP service center for the upgrade since they'll be having all the tools required.
It'll void warranty if you do it yourself & in the process break something.

  • Upgrading ram and to SSD

    Hi,
I own a HP pavillion dv6000 series , to be exact, it is a dv6433cl running a windows vista at 32bits.
I am soon going to upgrade to windows 7 64bit since it is able and so i also wanted to upgrade the ram and possibly change it out to a SSD. I cant seem to find an SSD or ram chips greater than 1gb. it is possible? if so, could someone please direct me to the website for immediate purchase.

    Hi,
Your machine has TWO slots and it supports 2Gb max therefore max for each slot is 1Gb. It has SATA controller therefore you can use larger (capacity) HDD, inclusing SSD, up to the current avaiable today. But, this is an old computer, BIOS may restrict it to a limit. To be honest, I would not spend money to upgrade this machine, saving more money to buy a new machine. Cheaper than you thought.
    Regards.

  • RAM and/or SSD upgrade help?

Hello, and thanks in advance for any insights to the following:
    I CURRENTLY have a macbook pro with 2.66 core 2 , and 4 gigs of RAM 1067 DDR3.
Current hard drive is the 320gb spinning drive.
    2 questions.
Would I benefit from changing out the RAM for 8 gigs of 1333mhz RAM?
And secondly, changing out the Drive to a 128GB SSD? 250read 230write.
I'm assuming the SSD is a "no-brainer" and would speed things up somewhat.
I currently have Firefox, iMovie, Picasa, , Mail, iPhoto and Activity monitor OPEN, along with a few utilities.
After 2 days of use without shutting down is as follows:
    FREE 329mb
    WIRED 635mb
    ACTIVE 2.43 GB
    INACTIVE 645mb
    USED 3.65GB
    VM SIVE 140GB
    PAGE INS 583mb
    PAGE OUTS 25mb
    SWAP USED 112mb
    Thanks again.

Your computer _will not run with 1333 RAM_, however if you upgrade to 8GB you should gain some performance. I'd recommend Crucial and OWC (www.macsales.com) RAM.
An SSD will only speed up starting your computer and opening files and applications. Because Mac's should really be left on 24/7 (let them sleep when not in use) restarting is a moot point. If you are in habit of opening lots of files and applications throughout a normal day you will be impressed with the speed of an SSD.
Another alternative and far less expensive is getting a Hybrid HD. Currently Seagate is the only manufacture I know that makes one, I had one in my recently sold MBP and was very impressed with it's performance. The only downside I noticed was the battery life was diminished somewhat. Here is a link to the drive I was referring to, I've seen them as low as about $100 but normally they sell for about $130-$140. IMHO it's a much better bang for the buck than a SSD.

  • 2.8ghz intel core 2 duo w/8gb ram and 240gb ssd

I have run across a lot of topics regarding upgrading your MBP late 2008 edition to 8gb of ram and that it is not possible. (only supports 6gb)
just wanted to let you all know that i just installed a brand new ssd, fresh install of 10.6, backuped my data, then installed 8gb of ram successfully...no hitches.
    thanks.

I have the same MacBookPro3,1 OS X seems to handle 8GB but with undefinable glitches. Windows does not know how to handle over 6. I even tried Windows 7 x64 with SP1 Integrated. The installer seems to work but takes literally 10 hrs and does not complete. With 6GB everything is fine on the windows side and it installs in 30 minutes. Also with 6GB OS X side is rock solid stable.
Personally, I opted for a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB for the HD with 4GB SSD buffer. After the Momentus XT I tried an Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G310 2.5" 120GB SATA but there didn't seem to be any noticable speed difference between the SSD and the Momentus XT. Some reading revealed that this was because Apple designed the MacBookPro3,1 with a negotiated link speed at SATA 1 speeds to accomidate the ide DVD drive. The ICH9 chipset supports SATA II, but SMC firmware limits it to SATA 1 on the MacbookPro3,1s. I tried operating the macbook without the dvd drive to see if it would negotiate at higher SATA 2 speeds, but no go.
BTW - If you swap out the top case/trackpad with one from a MacbookPro4,1 you get all the multitouch gestures.

  • Given these criteria, which camcorder would you recommend?

As I research more, the more questions arise. Of the four kinds of camcorders *(High Definition, Standard Definition, Flash Memory, Standard Definition DVD, and Standard Definition mini DVD)*, *which kind is best suited for iMovie '09?* I realize that there is a link which shows which camcorders work with it, but my question is narrower. By this I mean:
I read that CMOS image sensors conflict with the Image Stabilization in iMovie '09. Therefore, I do not want a camcorder with a CMOS IMAGE SENSOR. It has to be the other kind.
A sideshoot question: If the camcorder lacks Image Stabilization, will that be taken care of in the iMovie '09 application? If so, then I don't need to look for IS as a requirement in a camcorder.
I read that there are ways that one can make a standard definition look like high definition on the YouTube video, so I think that High Definition is not that crucial. I saw a YouTube video shot with a camcorder that did not have High Definition, and it/the video, look very very sharp. It looked High Def without the downsides of High Def.
Because I want a small camcorder, I chose the Flash Memory Camcorders. I also love the idea of having separate memory cards for raw footage in each video.
I now have a Sony digital video camera recorder DCR-TRV 11, which uses cassettes, so I do not need to get another one of the same type. I want one that is smaller *that works seamlessly with iMovie '09* with no extra steps involved such as decompressing a compressed video. I read something that jolted me: It said that flash memory compresses the video and that one would have to de-compress that video. *IS THIS TRUE?*
Can anyone give me some thoughts and advice or wise counsel on this?
I am looking at the *Canon FS100,*
    *Canon FS200,*
    *Sony DCR-HC52*
Studying hard, but finding new questions around each corner.........

    ok, from top-to-bottom:
    • list of Apple-tested devices: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290?viewlocale=en_US
(this list means 'tested'! usually, devices of same 'family' do work, as XS100/listed, XS110/XS130 not listed but supported too.
    • DVD-corders = NoGo .. (please, Lorna, don't ask why .. you don't want it. period. )
    • CMOS-probs are demonstrated and explained on my site: http://sites.google.com/site/karstenschluter/imovie09jellodemo
you will hardly get now-adays a non-CMOS consumer camcorder..
one simple (=in means of doesn't work everytime) workaround: set shutter-speed as short as possible.. IF device supports manual shutter speed...
    • nothing replaces HiDef. period.
    • .. but *HiDef ≠ HiDef* .. there are devices claiming 'FullHD', but using plastic-lenses, offering only digital-zoom, 'chip' is small as a pin-head, no native 1080-pixel res, PLUS low bitrates.
    • compressing... bitrates define pic-quality. actual top-of-the-line: ~22Mbit/sec; 15-17 is fine; any under 10 is nonsense with FullHD ..
.. which uses cassettes, so I do not need to get another one of the same type.
so, why is the HC-52 on your list ?
all three devices on your list are SD - any reason for that?
imho, SD + flash-mem devices usually compress too much (=low bitrate)
what is your main delivery media? DVD? web? ... ?
a good source for tech. info is camcorderinfo.com
    general 'Lorna advice':
there is no such thing as the perfect device.
make your own list of needs&want-haves; what about mic-in? what about battery charger? what about 'handling'/too big, too small? what about size of wallet? what about tripod, scuba-cases, wireless mics, lights...? ...
NO, Lorna, don't answer too me, answer yourself..

Hello, Well I am on the following system :-  HP Pavilion 14-v015tu Notebook PCModel #: J3Z65PA It has a 4GB RAM and I want to upgarde it with additional 4GB of memory putting it to 8GB of RAM. Also I am on Windows 10 currently the OS is quite slow on my HDD and I have been thinking to switch to SSD.I need help that can i upgrade my laptop with a 512GB SSD and if yes what size and stuff as I cant find information about the form factor, inches, size, etc of my current HDD.Also will it fit properly and stuff? Also my main concern is warranty.Does my warranty gets void if I upgrade ? Thanks

The backup is an issue, but you can always mail your work to your self… but the mail server has to be configured the way that mails are not deleted.
The more elegant way is "MobileMe", you can use it as a storage and save your work there.
Keep in mind, the iPad is limited to what you can do with the Apps, so check first if there are some Apps for the work you need to do…
    enjoy your magic machine

  • Has anyone every used the CleanMyMac 2 feature and if so, would you recommend it?

I was looking into signing up to beta test the new iOS Yosemite and I was reading that you need to clean up your Mac and back it up first before installing it and it was recommending you download something called CleanMyMac2.
Not sure if it would be a good idea or not. Any thoughts?

This may explain what you saw - an advertisement:
It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple in any way.
    Clicking it reveals the following:
... after which it advocates creating a backup.
All of this is horrible advice. Ignore it.

  • Which Setup would you recommend?

    Dear strangers,
Once again I must ask for your valuable knowledge! Let me start off by proposing the setups (both are almost equal in price):
    - iMac 2012 (3.2 GHz i5 / 8GB RAM / 768GB SSD / GTX 675MX) (1)
    - iMac 2012 (3.4 GHz i7 / 8GB RAM / 1TB HDD / GTX 680MX) (2)
I will not use the HDD of (2) as my main boot drive, I will use the LaCie Little Big Disk 1TB SSD instead. So I can eventually use the HDD as a backupdrive (internally, very paradoxal situation). My concerns:
    - Will setup (2) cause any complications because I'm using an external drive as main drive (reliability, performance, ...)?
    - For the same price, I get much better specs, mainly due the overpriced Apple SSD. But I'll use the PC (personal computer, indeed) for my studies, which means designerprograms like Inventor (engineering), but offcourse also for iTunes, browsing, a lot at the same time. So I wonder if the i7/680MX is really needed.
I hope you guys could help me, I didn't found a particular problem on other fori!
    Thanks in advance,
    Arno Claes

Yes, Thunderbolt indeed. The speed is also quite astounding: 635MB/s read speeds with the LaCie, and probably around 350MB/s with the SSD (because of the fact that the LaCie can be configured in RAID 0 with 2 512GB SSDs). But it's mainly the reliability that troubles me, you see, 'it's not designed that way'.

  • After updating ram and to SSD hard drive bluetooth no longer works

Updated my two sets of hynix 2GB ram to two sets of Crucial 4GB ram (8GB total), and then also installed a Samsung 1TB SSD hard drive.
Now my Bluetooth does not recognize any devices at all.
I'm using a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 17" 2.53 ghtz on the most recent version of Mavericks.
(In order to update to the SSD drive, I inserted the blank drive, formatted it using my install discs, then did an internet OS install of Mavericks, and used Migration Assistant to import all my old data. Everything else is working perfectly fine.)

I do not know what happened, but try resetting the SMC (might help, cannot hurt).

  • Which iMac would you recommend?

I'm a web developer by profession, and I've decided to add an iMac to my home office.
    MY CURRENT RIG:
    3.0Ghz i5
    12gb ram
    500gb HDD + 500gb (external)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
    Windows 7 Home (64-bit)
DELL 27" + DELL 22" Monitors (extended desktop setup)
I run multiple applications simulataneously such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Filezilla, and multiple browsers. Usually have music playing at the same time. My setup is great, and I have no complaints about its performance. I'm trying to determine what would be a comparable setup in an iMac. I suppose the easy thing to say would be find one with around 3.0Ghz and 12gb of ram, however I'm not sure if OSX requires as much hardware to offer the same performance? Can I get away with the 2.7Ghz i5 and 8gb of ram? Or would I be disappointed with that setup?
    All suggestions greatly appreciated!

I've been asking this same question and can't find a good answer. Have you gotten any responses?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • Which headset would you recommend to go with SoundBlaster Z

    Hi,
I've bought SoundBlaster Z about a year ago, and i am looking for some nice headset to go with it for the best sound experience. I currently have Fatal1ty, which ceases to suffice.
There are either Tactic3D series, which have very tempting 3D sound feature, but there are also EVO series, which seem to be better for overall sound experience.
I intend to use the headset universally for anything from gaming to music listening, so i do not know which is better compromise.
I also heard Fatal1ty headset I currently own has limited 3D sound emulation, and I indeed hear hints of three dimensional sound when playing games, and it sounds indeed convincing. So I am not sure if EVO headset is capable of this too, or if it's just a placebo...

The Tactic3D shouldn't make much difference as you already have a Sound Blaster Z that can create the 3D effect (turn on SBX Surround, set your game to surround mode, set Windows to 5.1 speakers and set the SBX control panel to headphones). Any high quality headset will suffice.
I do not have experience with headsets (I use one UE900 in-ear), but people like those from Sennheiser. How much are you willing to expend?
