Widescreen on 13 inch MacBook

I know on the Macbook Pro you can set the iSight to capture in Widescreen in iMovie but how do you do it with the regular macbook?

Welcome to Discussions, kurtau22.
The iMovie application works the same on either MacBook or MacBook Pro.
How you make widescreen movies depends on which iMovie you use.
*If you use iMovie HD 6*, select the "iSight" setting when start your new project. Then record your iSight video clip. The video will appear in iSight's normal aspect ratio. When you have finished capturing clips, change to the edit view and use the Editing > Video FX > Letterbox effect to mask the clip to widescreen:
*If you use iMovie '08* (version 7.x.x in "About iMovie"), you can choose the widescreen aspect ratio for clips you will capture by selecting widescreen in the choices bar of iMovie's File > New Project... menu when you create a new project:
or, to change the aspect ratio of existing iMovie '08 clips you have previously recorded, change the aspect ratio to widescreen by using the File > Project Properties... menu:
*For more specific help using iMovie*, you might get better help by posting in the iMovie Forum for the version you use.

    Is $1019 a good price?

Can you tell me why you don't think its a good buy? Someone bought it that must have thought it was a good buy? You?!!!
I had a macbook pro, spilled an entire latte on it. Cannot afford to drop another 1500 on a new one. I understand the air is a great machine. And for someone that is hard on equipment (aside from liquid!) with no moving parts its a better option. This one is priced at $929 - good?

  • Hi, I'd like to buy a 13 inch macbook air. My biggest concern is to get one that doesn't have high EMFs to it and that has low heat. Which one would you suggest? The older 2010, or the 2011 with the i5 chip or the newest with the i7 chip?

Hi, I would like to buy my first laptop computer, the 13 inch macbook air.
    My biggest concerns are:
    1. Which has the least amount of EMFs? I'm sensitive to that and have enjoyed my iPad (original) that has no EMF fields.
    2. Which runs the coolest?
I want the 128 gig one. Which would fit my requirments, the 2010 with the 2 Core Duo, the 2011 I believe it is with the i5 chip, or the newest one with the i7 chip? From the reviews I have read, it sounds like the one with the i7 chip runs the hottest.
I'm sure I am missing a whole lot of information, please fill me in!
    Thanks,
    Martha

Changing the 13 inch screen resolution will unfortunately result in a less sharp display, simply because all these type of displays have an 'native' resolution which gives optimal results, leaving other settings less crisp. The 13 inch MBA panel has a native resolution of 1440x900, which is remarkable for a screen of that size (I have 17 inch widescreen monitors at work with that same resolution) but it can certainly be set at a lower figure.
The one area where the trackpad has benefits over a mouse is that you can use multi-touch gestures, just as on the iPad. That's a feature I really like, particularly being able to zoom in and out and scroll up and down, though of course other gestures are supported too. As such then it does indeed work much like the touch screen capaibilities of an iPad.
If you have a Mighty Mouse the one with the tiny scroll-ball on the top-front, then they are notorious for scrolling issues due to getting clogged up. They're not hard to clean, but the Mighty Mouse is notably inferior to the later Magic Mouse, which doesn't have a scroll-ball or wheel, but uses the whole top panel for scrolling using gestures in much the same way as a trackpad. I've found a Magic Mouse a good investment for any Bluetooth-capable Mac (which of course includes all MBA models).
[ON EDIT]: The MBA doesn't come with Flash, but it is a free download from Adobe, and is very simple to install. Just make sure you get the installer from Adobe.com and not any other location since there is some malware which masquerades as a Flash installer but is not safe to install! Beware though that Flash is very processor intensive, and if anything will run the MBA fans up to speed, and heat the system up, it is that.
    Good luck with the readings!!

  • 13 inch or 15 inch macbook pro?

    hi
i have always had a 13 inch macbook.  now i am in a quandry--13 or 15?  is th 15 inch basically just better for gaming or is it realy a superior machine?  i watch a lot of online tv and movies---play some adobe flash games---and play with photoshop elements and drawing.  is the extra $450 worth it?  of course the macmall guy says yes---but is it really?  i have read about this issue here and on youtube.  help please.  this is a major decision for me.  thank you!

i did watch a few more youtube videos.  i just don't know!  i guess i feel like my needs might change in the next 5 years or so and that's why i am leaning toward the 15 inch.  but at the same time i wonder if i am just being seduced by the sexiness of it.  i appreciate all the info.  the price is was quoted for the 15 inch

    i was quoted $1,533.  it's about a $450 difference.  is that a good price?
i was always a macbook girl--but now there is not macbook--just the pros.
when i buy a laptop i figure it's life to be about 5 years.  would the 15 inch give me more life?
thank you for the continued input!

  • This Question is at least 2.5 years old.  But still an issue.  I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7.  Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.

I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7.  Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

  • Picture Included. Mid 2012 13 inch Macbook Pro green/purple lines on screen. Freezes. Sometimes 3 beeps.

Alright I have a Mid 2012 13 inch Macbook Pro purchased in June 2012. For about the last month, I have this issue where as I am using it random colored lines will show up on the screen (lines usually green, purple, but occasionally the issue occurs while booting and lines are black on white background). As soon as the lines appear, everything freezes. Sometimes the computer automatically reboots. Other times, it will just turn off and start beeping 3 times in a row. AT first, I thought this may be a video card error because it happened a lot when I was watching videos. However, it also happens randomly when I am just using safari/chrome with no other programs runnings. The most annoying part of this issue is that it is completely random. Computer won't act up for maybe 2 days straight during all activities (videos, surfing the web, etc). Then I will have a day where the problem is consistent.
Also, although I think this is just a correlation, all problems started after upgrading to Yosemite.
    Picture below:
Does anyone else with a Macbook Pro (especially 2012) have this issue? These two discussions seem to be describing this very situation:
Screen froze, purple lines, three beeps. Help!
Macbook Pro screen glitches, 3 beeps, NOT THE RAM

thanks alex. I'm going to the genius bar later this week for them to get a look at the issue.
in the meantime, do you have any idea why the problem occurs when I apply a little pressure to the bottom of the computer (under the command screen). here is a video of the situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88C34bHZAd8&feature=youtu.be
also, i found this thread describing my exact situation: Field of vertical lines all over Macbook Pro screen? (+ freezes, beeps)
do you have any idea of a solution from reading that?

  • 13 Inch Macbook Pro Logic Board Failure

I've my 13 inch macbook pro (mid 2010) working fine till last week and all of a sudden it gone off while i'am working with it.
When i tried it it switch it on, it is not coming up back. No response at all, when i press the power button even the brething light is not coming up.
No issue with the battery as it is fully charged and even the MagSafe is connected.
I gave it to Apple authorised service center for repair, they initially asked 1000+ buck (INR) for checking it and after checking it i got a response that it is a logic board issue no power is being send to Logic board and it needs an expensive replacement of Rs 33,600.
Not sure why this logic board can't be repaired rather than an expensive replacement..??? Are they doing service or only replacements?
Bought it for 80k and spending another 35k in 3 years is the most annoying thing   - a brand new windows laptop costs 35k
    Thanks,
    Subbu

Apple or an AASP do not "service" logic boards...everything is soldered in place...they replace them.

  • Type of battery -- mid 2010 13-inch macbook; and how soon do I need to replace dead battery?

I'm trying to replace the battery on my mid 2010 13-inch Macbook. I'm not sure what kind of battery I need to get, and can't seem to find any indication in "System Information". It's a "MacBook7,1" with Intel Core 2 Duo and Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz. I found this battery on amazon: "Apple MacBook Pro 13 Inch Mid 2010 Battery 60Wh, 5500mAh". Will it work? Do I need to get one with a particular power capacity, or anything like that?
I'm also wondering how quickly I need to get the problem fixed. My computer stopped working yesterday unless plugged into a power source. I don't really want to send it away to get it fixed, as I have a lot of work I need to do on it over the course of the next week. If I buy a battery online, wait for it to arrive, and install it (a process that will probably take at least 4-5 days), will I be leaving it too long? Or is it OK to continue just running my computer off the mains for now?
    Thanks!

PS: here's some other info I found, after my earlier post timed-out:
See how a determined DIY user with some skills & abilities could dissect & replace battery:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Unibody+Model+A1342+Battery+Replacement/166 7
Example of what new replacement battery looks like, for your Mac; w/ part number:
    http://www.battery-center.net/apple-macbook-unibody-13-battery.html
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
An Apple Store or Authorized Apple service provider could replace the battery
for the cost of the part, and a fee for the tech time. This may vary by location.
Hopefully this helps. The part is not considered 'user replaceable' but it is possible.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What is the problem with 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 after connecting to TV with HDMI chord?

Today we connected a 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 with HDMI chord to an Insigna Television. We plugged and unplugged couple of times. But recently the macbook pro is having technical issues. The following symptoms are:
    1. Macbook pro turns on and off
    2. The screen stays blue and keeps loading but does not load to the desktop so you can't access to anywhere
    3. The screen sometimes becomes fuzzy and the apple logo that shows before it loads to the desktop is fuzzy
    4. Sometimes fuzzy lines appear on the screen like you see on television when there's a bad signal
    5. The screen stays blue
    6. Sometimes little specks appear on the screen
Only thing we did was turn it off and restart but it still leads to the same symptoms above.
Does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I am guessing it is due to the connection to the HDMI chord, since we didn't turn the macbook on and off when we plugged it, rather we just unplugged and plugged the chord while the macbook is running.
Another theory might be watching movies from an online source but the first theory seems to make more sense.
We scheduled a meeting with the genius bar tomorrow but does anyone might have any clue? And also any ideas how to fix this? This is an emergency because there are important files on the macbook we didn't back up and we hope the files are safe and we need to use the macbook ASAP. Let us know anything that might have caused this and/or any solutions or help. That would be appreciated and thank you.

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in my aluminum 13-inch Macbook (Late 2008)?

My 13-inch Macbook (Late 2008) currently uses the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card, but I want to upgrade it, so that I can play games at a higher quality. Is this possible? If so, what graphics cards are compatible with my Macbook (Late 2008)?
    Thank you.

The graphics card on a MacBook is part of the logic board not a separate card so it can't be upgraded.

  • Hooking up my late 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro to an ultra tv (4k resolution) for use as a monitor?

Hey! I am interested in hooking up my late 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro to an ultra tv (4k resolution). My computer has native 1920x1080 but can I reach 4k using that tv as a monitor? I plan on using a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. Has anyone even tried this? I've heard rumors that the MacBook doesn't recognize that the tv has higher than 1920x1080 and so people use a hacked graphics card. It's all very confusing but if anyone has gotten this to work I'd be very interested in knowing how its done.

Any updates to this with latest Maveriks OSX upgrade 10.9?
I have an Active TB/HDMI adapter that coworker said he got to work with 4K Monitor at 3840.
Still trying to get a hold of him to validate his MBP model, but think it is the same as mine, Late 2011 MBP
All I am getting is 1920x1080 in options lisy with 10.9.2.
