Widget Browser hangs in Mac OS X 10.6.4

Installed the Dreamweaver Widget Browser shortly after installing CS5 Web Premium on my quad-core iMac running OS X 10.6.4
Launching the browser gives an empty screen layout and the app hangs with the color beachball.  Trashing and reinstalling makes no difference.  Application simply hangs.  Ideas anyone?

While making sure you are using the latest version of Adobe AIR is a good start, it did not solve my problem.  The Widget Browser does use AIR but it was broken permissions that caused DW Widget Browser to hang.  Neither the good folks at Adobe or Apple could tell me which permission(s) were the culprit but a new system user was able to use and browse widgets, confirming the culprit was permissions.
If you're moving from an old Mac to a new one, you can choose to move all of your files, apps and preferences or start from scratch; there's no in between.  Unfortunately, the Apple migrator often corrupts permissions and preferences as they are moved from an older to newer version of OS X.  Apple Support suggests that the first thing you do after migrating is to run Disk Utility and fix permissions.  This corrected thousands of settings but still didn't fix my problem with the Widget Browser.  With fast user switching enabled in your System Prefs > Accounts, create a new user and selectively share access to all of your apps and files with this user.  WARNING: do not try to share your entire Macintosh HD and enclosed items.  You risk breaking essential system permissions and your machine may fail to boot.
This wasted hours of my time but I'm slowly getting back to normal. It was all necessary to get some Adobe apps to work correctly.  Widget Browser was not the only victim of corrupted permissions.  Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 also failed to print PDFs.
Advice: if you are migrating to a new Mac AND plan to upgrade to the newest version of Adobe Creative Suite, uninstall all old Adobe apps on the old machine before migrating.

  • No Window in Widget Browser or Adobe Help on Mac, solved

I had trouble installing Air, got that solved, then found Widget Browser and Adobe Help would seem to start, but never show a window, and they'd "quit unexpectedly" when quitting.
Noted that, when logging into a different account, the applications worked fine.
This was solved by deleting the Macromedia folder from ~/Library/Preferences under the troublesome account, then relaunching the Widget Browser and Adobe Help applications. Relaunching recreated the Macromedia folder with some new subfolders and files, including ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/airappinstaller/airappinstaller, among others.

  • Proxy Authentication while Installing Dreamweaver Widget Browser (Mac)

    Hi,
I have created the Adobe CS6 Web and Design Premium package using AAMEE 3.0. I have chosen to exclude adobe air and help. Exception folders have Adobe AIR Installer , Adobe Dreamweaver Widget browser and Adobe Help. ExceptionInfo.txt provides the list of commands to install the exceptions. While running the commands from the text file, Adobe AIR and Adobe Help works fine but Dreamweaver widget prompts for proxy authentication inspite of -slient parameter.
I am using the below command from ExceptionInfo.txt to install Widget Browser
Adobe AIR Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe AIR Installer -silent -eulaAccepted -programMenu WidgetBrowser.air
Does this a common issue or do I need to change something in the command line?
    Regards,
    Karthikeyan M

    Hi Karthikeyan
I haven't had the opportunity to confirm this with CS6 recently, but depending on the callback the air application makes, I have seen examples where using the -revocationCheck never command line flag could potentially make a difference. It would be interesting to see if it does under these specific circumstances with the widgetbrowser.
See http://blogs.adobe.com/simplicity/2011/08/disabling-air-certificate-revocation-checks-duri ng-silent-install.html and http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/creative-suite-deployment-proxy-log.html for some background.
    Kind regards

  • Widget Browser attempts to reinstall AIR

    Hello all!
I'm experiencing an issue where, when I try to open the Widget Browser, it attempts to automaticall reinstall AIR. The install window comes up and hangs with no change in status. I have previously installed AIR. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both programs, and I've also tried adjusting permissions to no avail. I would really appreciate any assistance. I'd like to note that I am a beginner Mac and Dreamweaver user, so... be gentle.
    Thanks!
    -JAK

That is odd.  What version of the OS are you running?  Are you able to run other AIR applications?  Try launching the Dreamweaver Help system by pressing F1 in Dreamweaver or selecting Help, Dreamweaver Help.  Can you try installing this AIR app that just returns the version # of air installed and see if that works and report what version of AIR you have installed.
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2413583-28129/version.air.zip
The latest version is 2.0.2 and can be installed from this location:

  • Can't sign in to widget browser

learning dreamweaver, trying to add widgets, downloaded air and widget browser, signed into exchange, widget I want to start w/should be in browser ... add wiget:
    Adobe exchange tab:
Failed getting Widget Feed. Reload | Show More Information
No joy on the reload, so, more information:
    Widget Feed Error
Failed getting Widget Feed. Make sure you are connected
    to the internet.
    Unknown error.
    My Widgets Tab:
You do not have any widgets saved in the My Widgets category. To add a widget, select a widget in Adobe Exchange view, and click the Add to My Widgets button.
Well, obviously I have no exchange view so .... and widgets projects ... no nothing because IT WON'T LET ME SIGN IN!
FIrst started with a log in error:
Unable to load WSDL. If currently online, please verify the URI and/or format of the WSDL (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/exchangedwwidgetsfacade.cfc?wsdl) ... arugh! Oh, and look, it's doing this again, one or the othe, just the clock turnng or this error ...
went to that addy and got:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
and then code ... lots of it.
So, tried a few things like adjusting firewall, clearing caches, restarting, switching from Safari to Firefox default ... etc. No joy.
Working on iMac, OS X 6.6 (snowleopard), 100% strong on the network conection, was working in dreamweaver but can't connect using widget browser independently either.
    Anything obvious I am missing?

I had all the symptoms described here (i.e., Widget Browser on Mac not working, w/ errors indicated. But it would work on a PC, and it worked on another user account on same Mac).
I tried so many "fixes" recommended by forum posts (many from Adobe -- thanks, esp. to Scott, but none of these worked): deleting prefs; deleting lots of stuff from Library folders/files; reinstalling AIR and Widget Browser; repairing permissions and dbl-checking and re-setting permissions on Library folder. . . .  Agh! What a drag! . ..
    Finally, I read this post:
    >>  I have solved the problem. I’ve  deleted al the Adobe cookies in Safari. And yes, all the widgets are  available in the Widget Browser.
    >>  Frans.
YES! That worked for me too! Hooray!
PLEASE ADOBE: get this news out! . . . It is VERY frustrating to spend SO much money with a company (for me, it's been thousands and thousands of dollars over a long career in graphic and web design), and, even within the first week of upgrading to CS 5.5 Design Premium, having absolutely NO corporate support.  . . . Geez! . . . Anyway, this is such a simple fix and I'm thankful to have the Widget Browser working. It really IS cool!

  • Widget browser and Adobe Help not opening in dw cs6

I am trying to insert a widget in dw, but I cannot get the widget browser to open. I have dw cs6 installed in my applications folder along with Adobe>Widget Browser and Adobe help.  How can I get this to work?

What version of Mac OS are you using?
If you're not sure, go to the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
What happens when you try to open Widget Browser directly from the /Applications folder?
How about if you try to open it from within Dreamweaver? (e.g. go to Insert > Widgets, then click the "Widget Browser" link)
Have you tried updating Adobe AIR, which is used to run Widget Browser?
Although it typically will automatically update itself, you can download the latest version of AIR from here to install: http://get.adobe.com/air/

  • Widget Browser Loads but the screen is blank

    Hello,
Some weeks ago I downloaded Widget Browser to my laptop and it did not work.  Scott Richards made different versions to try and came up with a solution.  Widget Browser worked on my laptop.
Now I am home with my desktop computer and tried installing Widget Browser.  First I tried the "build" I used on the laptop.  It did not work.  I tried the new "build" I downloaded from Adobe.  It has a blank screen too.
My desktop has the newest Air running since that was updated a little while ago.  It's a Mac  Pro running 10.6.4, lots of RAM, and CS5.
Is there a "build" to try so Widget Browser will work on the desktop?
    bill oudegeest

We have posted a special build for those who are experiencing the blank screen problem on the Mac.  It is located here:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/widgetbrowser/widgetbrowser_540.air
Sorry for the incovenience, If you are experiencing this problem.  Download this version and don't update to build 543.
We will continue to try and reproduce this problem on our side and come up with a better fix.  Please let us know if you have any more info about this problem or what may be causing it.

  • Widget Browser kaput

OK, I've looked around for answers and the ones I found don't address my situation.
I installed the Adobe Widget Browser and it doesn't work. That means the stan-alone application launches but there's no app window.
I cannot sign in, there's nothing but the application menus.
Dreamweaver keeps telling me it's not installed and sends me to the website to get it installed.
I updated AIR (to 2.7.0.19480), uninstalled, reinstalled AWB and nothing (installed from Adobe site and by downloading the installer file). Still no window.
Dreamweaver works, Extensions Manager works, Exchange RSS in browser works, I don't see any firewall issues, etc.
A ":Users:username:Library:Application Support:WidgetBrowser" is absent, let alone the configuration file.
What's supposed to happen? How does DW know where WB is installed? Why does the app launch and there's no window? Is there an xml or configuration file that I can edit to make things work?
Please don't ask me to uninstall/reinstall CS5. That's too Dilbert for me.
    Thanks.
Adobe Creative Suite 5, Mac OS 10.6.7

    1. In the Widget Browser you got 2 windows, "Adobe Exchange" with all widgets and "My widgets" that is empty when you start.
    2. In "Adobe exchange" you choose the widget you want to download, it downloads automatic.
    3. Then in the bottom of that screen you choose "+ add to my widgets".
    4. Go back to Widget Browser and choose "My widgets" and the new widget should be there.
    5. In DW open a program, choose -Insert- -Widget- and a small window open where you can choose Widget and Preset.
    6. To make your own presets, go to Widget Browser, choose "My Widgets" and click on one of the widgets and there you can create your own presets.
I just learned all of thi yesterday evening and it works fine for me.
    Good luck!

  • Welcome to the Widget Browser Forum

    Hi,
Thanks for visiting the Adobe Widget Browser forum.
We hope you like the product so far!
Post any questions or feedback you have here.
As this forum begins, I just want to describe how the Widget Browser works so you can direct questions appropriately.
The Widget Browser works by reading zip files and XML to generate the widget and it's editable properties.
There are 3 parts to think of when looking at issues.
--The Widget Browsr itself: The actual AIR app.
--The zip and the OAM file. All the assets are delivered to the Widget Browser in a zip file. With this zip has an xml file (and the rest of the assets) that describes all the properties of the widget. We call this the OAM file (after Open Ajax Metadata, which is the spec we use to build the file.)
--The widget itsetlf. The js, css and any assets needed to actual create the widget.
Since widgets are free, usually with MIT or GPL licenses, and the OAM format is public, the person that wrote the OAM and packaged the file might not be the same person that wrote the actual widget.
--If there is a problem with the WB itself, that is an Adobe issue.
--If there is something wrong with how the properties in the Configuration Panel are working or assets are missing or incorrect, that is an issue with the OAM/zip file.
--If something is not working correctly with the widget in the web browser, that could be an issue with the actual widget code. This might be the result of the Widget Browser generating bad code due to an error in the OAM or it just might be a bug in the widget itself.
So now that we know a little bit about the behind-the-scenes, we can be more accurate when describing issues within the Widget Browser.
And let me say a bit about the generated HTML code.
Most widgets have js files, CSS files and maybe some image assets.
When you Save Widget Files or insert the widget with Dreamweaver CS5, you will note perhaps a lot of CSS in the head of the document, depending on the widget.
All the rules added to the <head> are rules that can be changed in the Configuration Panel. CSS rules are written to the <head> so that we don't edit the original CSS file that comes with the widget. The <head> rules are the rules for the specific instance of the widget and use the cascade to trump the external rules.
This allows for multiple widgets on a page or site with differing styles.
Once they are on the page, you can move/delete them as you like, following all the usual rules of order and cascade, like any other web page.
    Another note about code.
These have been designed so when you Save Widget Files from the WB, it will write out a HTML copy of the widget with the dependent files in a folder next to it. Paths are written out document relative so it will work correctly.
When inserting in Dreamweaver CS 5, the asset folders are added to the root of the site, no matter where you page is, and paths are written with site root relative paths so the assets will work from any location.
We can generate a FAQ as we begin to get actual FAQs.
Please provide feedback on the Widget Browser. We would love to know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Donald Booth

I love Flash Catalyst!  I have always wondered why Adobe does not embed Spell check in any of their products to my knowledge ?  Also, I am building a site and I need to import word doc formatted text into the text box in Catalyst. Is their away to maintain the word formatting in Catalyst, if so, how? I am using a Mac. I would prefer not having to convert to text to a pic or vector format so the text can easily be updated in the future.
    Thanks

  • Flash Player 10.2.153 constant hangs on Mac

"A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 10 to run slowly."
I got this CONSTANTLY. Constantly. Not just in Safari but also Firefox, Chrome and every single other browser. Even Firefox and Safari's special Flash Player process isolation didn't help, because the browser would outright hang as a result, usually with high CPU usage. It almost seems like in response to Mozilla and Apple's separation of plug-ins from the main application process to prevent the #1 browser crasher, Adobe figured out that they could still hang the browser even if they couldn't crash it any more.
The other annoying thing is that if you click either button, to abort it or to not abort it, the entire application's focus has been lost. Quit menus are greyed out, tabs cannot be switched, the browser's other windows cannot be switched either, etc and the system just beeps as you. The Dock menu items don't help either. The whole thing's still stuck behind the error dialog, even once that dialog has been dismissed. The only thing you can do is force-quit your entire browser and start over. It's actually better to let the browser hang and wait for the script to eventually either time-out or complete, which will also cause the dialog to dismiss on its own. Or the alternative is to deliberately crash the isolated Flash Player process - open your Activity Monitor (Mac) and force-quit the Flash Player process for Firefox or Safari.
What finally solved it for me was ditching Flash Player 10.2 and going back to Flash Player 10.1.85. Problem solved. Never again.
I know Adobe would rather you didn't, but if you have had this problem, try going back a version or two. The security issues that drive their constant revision of the product are probably unlikely to affect you if you're careful about where you go, and only run Flash content on known sites. Click2Flash might be worth installing as a further security measure, to prevent unexpected Flash content from leaping out at you.

    Hello,
Try to uninstall Flash Player from this uninstaller : http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg
Try to install Flash Player from this installer : http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_osx_ub.dmg
Make sure no process (Firefox, Safari or any another application) is running while running these process
    Hope this helps !!
    Thanks

i found the exception posted in my first post is shown after i close the file upload dialog manually which hangs for a long time(more than 5 minutes).
so, yes, you're right , the 'broken pipe' exception means the browser drop the file (since i close it manually)
during the browser hang ,i don't see any exception in weblogic.
we use SSO, is the browser occasionally hang related with SSO?

  • Safari Browser hangs a lot. In fact computer hangs a lot but Safari is the worst.

    Hello All:
By hang I mean I get the rainbow pinwheel sign pretty often for a Macbook Pro that was purchased only in August 2012. I have Mac OS Lion 10.7.5
My browser hangs a lot. randomly. I have no reason why. I'd seen a previous post about a smiliar issue where the advice was to run the following series of steps. I did. Please tell me whether it's slow because of third party applications or not. And, of course, what should I do to fix it.
    XYZ-MacBook-Pro:~ XYZ$ kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
    XYZs-MacBook-Pro:~ XYZ$
    XYZs-MacBook-Pro:~ XYZ$ sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfi x|x)/{print $3}'

I've uninstalled ClickToFlash and have seen little if any improvement. Indeed, just coming back to this site led to this:
Safari can’t open the page “http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2453707&tstart=0” because Safari can’t find the server “discussions.apple.com”.
Not only is it having trouble loading pages with any complexity (ads, video, etc.), it also hangs ALL tabs while that one page fails to load. In other words, I cannot open a new tab and browse. Everything grinds to a halt.

  • Constant browser hanging/crashing (Safari, Firefox, and Camino)

    Hello everyone.
Lately my browser has been hanging/crashing on multiple websites. It doesn't matter what browser I use which is the odd thing! A browser always crashes at around the same time (about a second or two into loading). I am constantly force-quitting browsers and restarting them. I feel like it has something to do with Flash because the crashes occur whenever I visit Youtube, Myspace music pages or other sites with Flash applets on them (such as my blog where I have embedded videos).
Here are a bunch of sites my browser hangs on. Maybe you can find something in common with them all?
    http://www.myspace.com/bbeyke
    http://www.youtube.com
    http://justinmarclloyd.blogspot.com
And of course, everything runs smoothly when visiting sites with basic HTML, Javascript, etc. I can search Google, use Wikipedia, use Flickr, go to my website at http://justinmarclloyd.com, go to my business website at http://www.theblacksea.org, browse apple.com, use this forum, etc.
I've tried updating and reinstalling adobe flash player, restarting my computer, repairing permissions, using software update, etc. Restarting actually temporarily fixed the problem but within a few hours of browsing, it started happening again.
    Any ideas?!
EDIT: I was able to go to http://video.google.com/ and successfully watch videos there. Now I'm even more confused.

    HI,
Try resetting Safari. From the Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If that doesn't help, try Open DNS Click the computer icon and follow the instructions.
Also try deleting this file. com.apple.safari.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
Go here for information on background maintenance.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2319?viewlocale=en_US
Make sure you have available disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
If none of the above helps, post the most recent crash log.
How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the most recent.

My Macbook browser is not compatible with a business website I must use for work.  Is there a Windows compatible browser for my Mac?

If the site has been optimised for IE (which is non-standards compliant), the best you can try is to spoof IE from Safari.
I'm using an earlier version of Safari than you, so I hope Allan or someone will correct me if the procedure is different.
    First, go to Safari Preferences and enable the developer menu;
Then go to the menu and select User Agent - choose a flavour of IE.
Works about 50% of the time.
It won't work if the site is using Activex controls.

  • Can't log in or access widget browser from within Dreamweaver

I can't sign in to my Adobe account through Dreamweaver or connect to the Widget Browser
“Unable to load WSDL. If currently online, please verify the URI and/or format of the WSDL (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/exchangedwwidgetsfacade.cfc?wsdl)”)
Seem s like a lot of other people have had this problem and most seem to have fixed it by emptying their browser cache
    Not working for me.
I've also reinstalled Dreamweaver from scratch but still get the same error
    Any other ideas?

Are we talking about the same product here?
I assume so, you are the only one that can be certain. I supplied a link to the supplier as in Comments Inserter Widget for Facebook™ so that you can verify same.
I bought it through Adobe as a Dreamweaver add-on and so I would expect there to be some means of delivery offered so that I can integrate it with Dreamweaver.
You purchased it from the supplier after having seen it on the page that Adobe has offered as a market place for the addons. Adobe has even supplied a link to contact the supplier Contact Us / Support
