Widget Fonts Improperly Display as Outlines

I've recently upgraded the OS on my 24" Intel iMac from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6. One of the side effects has been that the font faces on all of my Dashboard widgets display as fuzzy outlines. The body of the characters are empty/transparent. This makes reading text and labels on the widgets difficult or impossible.
Any thoughts about how to cure this? Is there a preference file to be trashed?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello.
As I described above, the widgets use the Helvetica Neue Bold font (in .dfont format) that ships with the OS. The problem for me was that the widgets were incorrectly calling the Postscript version of Helvetica Neue Bold Outline that I had installed along with the rest of the Postscript version of the Helvetica Neue family.
I can't explain the reason for the widgets' confusion. My solution was to open FontBook and disable Helvetica Neue Bold Outline, while allowing the rest of the Helvetica Neue family to remain activated.

  • All layers displayed in outlines issue

I teach University level courses in Flash Animation and on of my
students has encountered a strange issue: all the layers are
displayed as outlines.  I can assure you that outline mode is
NOT switced on "globally" or for each layer.  I have tried toggling
the icons on and off to see if that would reset it, but it did not.
Every new document is doing this, even after relaunching the
    program and rebooting the OS,
Preview and Published display correctly, it is only in the
the working environment that things aren't right.
None of the other workstations are doing this, just this one.
I did an update, but the issue persisted.
The weirdest part about it is, when I gave him a file created on
my laptop to see what would happen, everything was displayed
normally,  New layers added to this document also displayed
    normally.
We have iMac workstatios running Snow Leopard if that makes
    a difference.
This is Flash CS5 by the way.
Other than doing a re-install, does anyone have any idears?
Thanks in advance for help on this!

Ned is correct. You always need to have a preview mode selected. Clicking on it while it is selected will not disable it. You need to choose a different preview mode setting. Also preview mode is saved per fla; therefore, you don't see this issue when opening your fla on your student's computer.
To set a default preview mode for new document:
    1. Create a new flash document (AS2, AS3, etc...) or open any existing document.
    2. Change preview mode to the setting that works best for your project (please see explanation of what each meant below).
Any new document created will have the new preview mode.
    According to Adobe help docs:
Outlines: Displays only the outlines of the shapes in your scene and causes all lines to appear as thin lines. This makes it easier to reshape your graphic elements and to display complex scenes quickly.
Fast: Turns off anti-aliasing and displays all the colors and line styles of your drawing.
Antialias:Turns on anti-aliasing for lines, shapes, and bitmaps and displays shapes and lines so that their edges appear smoother on the screen. Draws more slowly than the Fast option. Anti-aliasing works best on video cards that provide thousands (16‑bit) or millions (24‑bit) of colors. In 16‑ or 256‑color mode, black lines are smoothed, but colors might look better in Fast mode.
Antialias Text:Smooths the edges of any text. Works best with large font sizes and can be slow with large amounts of text. This is the most common mode in which to work.
Full:Renders all content on the Stage fully. Might slow down display.
    Hope this help!

  • Fonts not displaying correctly in Mail & Safari since updating to 10.4.5

On some of my downloaded email and some websites the fonts are displaying wrong! What's weird as I figured out that the font is called Brady Bunch which I don't even seem to have on my system or if I do I can't find it.
I figured out it was Brady Bunch by copy/pasting it into TextEdit and then went to Format > Show Fonts. It doesn't seem to effect Firefox browser.
My Apple mail (v2.0.5) preferences > Fonts & Colors > are all Helvetia. Safari (v2.0.3) Preferences > Appearance are Times 14 and Courier 12.
It looks really unprofessional replying to an email and the text I'm replying to is in Brady Bunch.
    Can anyone help?

  • Fonts not displaying correctly in Muse, working fine on upload. HELP! Working on Muse CC 2014, Mac OSX 10.9.4

    Hello!
In Muse, my fonts are displaying incorrectly, when uploaded the fonts are correct. I am guessing this is a system issue. First time I have had this problem since making the jump to CC 2014 and it is making designing painful . I've updated everything, dumped and reinstalled the web fonts, restarted, cleared PRAM and scratched my head a bunch. I also tried to find a font cache to dump but could not locate it...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Musers! - Andrew

  • InDesign CS5.5 fonts not displaying correctly when applying styles

    Hi there,
My problem is this - I've set up character and paragraph styles in a document. Yesterday everything in the document was working as expected. Today I open the file and some of the fonts are displaying incorrectly ie instead of a selection of type being bold (where a character style has been applyed) the whole paragraph is now bold and doesn't respond to having the character style removed.
There are no error messages, the program loads, doesn't crash, did go slow but I resaved all the linked files and it moved along at it normal speed - it is quite a complicated document. Other files seem to behave, so I thought it might be a corrupt file. However when I tried to save to IDML  the process was interminable, so I cancelled it (tried this several times and with a simplified file - removed all the images).
I've cleaned out the font caches.
    I  trashed the program preferences.
Hope somebody out there has a idea.
    Thanks

Most likely reasons for what you are seeing is the paragraph has the bold style assigned to the whole thing as a character style (maybe nested without a valid end trigger?), or the basic character attibutes of the paragraph style were changed to bold. Slightly less likely is that you managed to apply Bold to the whole paragraph as a local override (which owuld show up as a + sign next to the paragraph style name).

  • Fonts wont display properly in Safari

I have to restart my computer about twice a day to get rid of the gobbledey-gook that comes up in my browser address bar
they look something like this --> *&^%((&$#@#
Also anything that uses system fonts to display the characters does this. This is also happening in my mail program and in SuitcaseXI.
I have stripped down my system fonts to the bear minimum and I have tried font cache cleaner but that doesnt work for very long. Is there a more permanent solution to this problem?

I'm not experiencing your problems but the Standard font in Safari is set to Times 16 and Fixed-width font is set to Courier 13.
    See if that helps.

  • FREE3OF9 barcode font not displaying in Firefox's new built-in PDF viewer

I have a PHP web app that uses FPDF (v1.53) and the FREE3OF9 barcode font to dynamically generate a PDF which includes a barcode in it. The font is imported into the document using the FPDF AddFont method (http://fpdf.org/en/doc/addfont.htm). In versions of Firefox prior to 19, the PDF opened in a new tab, was displayed by the Adobe Acrobat plugin, and the barcode showed up perfectly fine.
Now that Firefox 19.0 is using its own built-in PDF viewer, the barcode no longer displays at all -- there's just a blank spot where it should be. It continues to display fine in IE and Chrome. How I can get the font to display correctly in the newest version of Firefox?
I understand that I can change the Action for the PDF content type to 'Use Adobe Reader' in the options, but I'd prefer to fix this so that my users don't have to change their browser settings. Or at the very least, it would be nice if they could only change the Action for PDFs originating from my site and not globally.
    Thanks.

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer and use the Adobe Reader instead.

  • PC static font not displaying correctly on Mac?

    Hi,
I have a PC fiash file with static body text that is New Gothic font. The published swf looks great on the PC, though when testing on Mac, none of the text appears. I thought that with static text fields, the font is automatically embedded?
Can anyone offers any suggestions as to how I can get the font to display properly on a Mac?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Well there are probably people that know better than me. But I have a rule of not using any fonts that aren't standard fonts everywhere. (Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman) If you don't already know, fonts are loaded on the local computer, (the user's computer) if they don't have the specific font you selected from all the fonts loaded on your computer, they won't see the work you did in the format you did it in, if at all.
So make your titles sexy and cool and break those apart so they look exactly how you want them, but unfortunately if your project is intended for the world wide web, you have to abide by web standards to ensure the majority of users can view it and this especially applies to text.
Hope this answers your question. I don't know if I'm telling you stuff you already know here, but like I said, others may know better.

  • Embedded fonts not displaying Correctly

I'm not doing anything to scale the movieClip.  I press CMD and enter and thats what comes out.  When I CMD + I zoom in and thats the second picture.
Regarding font embedding, I've enabled linkage and created a new class of it in my AS3 class file.  Is there anything else I should do?
Oh..may be worth mentioning, all the text is actually Label components.

  • Font not displaying on Reports Output (RHEL 5) for 10g

Hi, I know I've posted a question in the past about a font not displaying on Report Output for my Arial, Arial Narrow, and Courier New fonts. I worked with Oracle Support and found that Metalink Note#261879.1 fixed my problem with those 3 fonts. I ran the scripts and now that part works great.
However, I have one font "ARIALUNI.TTF" that will not work. This is out specific barcode font we use. I've pushed it on Linux from my Windows by pushing it as a binary file to the ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/TTF directory. I even put it in the directory for TTF on Metalink Notoe 261829.1 and let it create the files, but it still doesn't find it when I ran a report that uses this font.
I tried using font subsetting via the uiprint.ali and make a reference but it still doesn't seem to work.
Is there something I'm missing that would cause any of these not to work. I thought maybe some files had to be created under the guicommon/tk/admin/AFM file directory but I'm not sure.
I just want to have my 2 or 3 reports that use this barcode to work. Once I get them, I'm done and all my font issues are resolved. Any help is appreciated.
    Chris

They are probably a very old Type 1 font. Try checking the dates on the font files. Your best bet would be to get the OpenType versions of those fonts and install them.

  • HT4561 After updating to 10.6.3, I installed the 10.6.8 update just to start experiencing these font issues. HELP! How do I get the fonts to display correctly in my browsers especially (Chrome & Safari)

After updating to 10.6.3, I installed the 10.6.8 update just to start experiencing these font issues. HELP! How do I get the fonts to display correctly in my browsers especially (Chrome & Safari)

What I ended up having to do was open up the Font book & remove duplicates. I knew it was Arial that was causing the problem, so I deleted the duplicate of that font. Inadvertantly I deleted all the Arial regular font, so I had to reinstall one copy. That was the solution. Thanks!

  • Title in the Discoverer Viewer is improperly displayed

    Hi,
The Title in the Discoverer Viewer is improperly displayed. The parameters that are applied are also being displayed in the title. Previously it was working fine but now the titles are displayed as &parameter_name. Can someone give a solution to this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi
That's right. The names of parameters and page items in your title or text area are not dynamic as they are in other parts of the tool. Therefore, whatever Discoverer sees after the ampersand character will first of all be looked for in parameters and page items. If there is a parameter or page item by that name then the current value for that item will be displayed in the title or page item. If there is nothing named that way then Discoverer treats the characters following the ampersand as a literal and will display them.
Thus, as mentioned by Russ, if you had a parameter called parameter_name and used &parameter_name in your title the current contents of that parameter will be displayed at runtime. But if you or one of your team has renamed that parameter then Discoverer will simply display the literal value: &parameter_name.
    Best wishes
    Michael
