Widget stuck on desktop

Hello. One fine day I found one of my widgets, an iTunes controller, to be permanently on my desktop, and on top of all applications. I didn't do anything to move it there, so I am truly baffled. I tried to follow the instructions on how to PUT a widget on your desktop, with the Terminal command, holding down F12, but since I didn't put it there, it doesn't seem to want to come off through this method.

Click on the widget on your desktop. Now, hold down your OPTION key (and keep it held) while moving the mouse over the widget -- an X in a circle should appear in the top left corner of the widget. Click the X to close the widget and remove it from your desktop.

Im new to macbooks and i liked having widgets on my PC. Managed to transfer widgets to my desktop from dashboard by typing into command. Now i want to remove them and i can't. Searched everything but no one seems to have any information in how to do it for os x 10.9.1. Can anybody help?

Assuming you are using iPhoto....
You want to select the event that has the photo in it then click once on the photo so it is highlighted with a yellow ring around it and then click and drag it to the desktop.
If you are finding it difficult to move the file that way you can select the picture in iPhoto and select
File > Export (Command + Shift + E) and select how you want to export it (format) and where you want to put it .

Muse/business catalyst: opera mini / opera mobile gets stuck in desktop view

After visiting a muse site and switching to desktop view, Opera Mini continues to serve it up even when reverting the original URL:
1. Create a site site.com with a mobile and desktop view.
2. Provide link to get from mobile to desktop.
3. Open site with opera mini. The mobile view loads.
4. Click the link to get to the desktop view. Muse redirects to something like site.com/phone/index.html?devicelock=phone
5. Put in the URL for the original site, eg. site.com.
6. Now, when you go to site.com, the URL resolves to the desktop site. Incorrectly.
7. Try clearing the history and cache in opera mini -> same result.
8. Go to explicit link to phone site. Then go back to base URL site.com. Still resolves incorrectly to desktop site.
It appears Muse is not supporting opera mini / mobile responsively, please advise.

That's not quite correct. Please see step #8 above. Even if I follow a "go to phone site" link with a "devicelock=phone" parameter, it may take me to the phone site, but default navigation remains stuck on desktop, when I put in the site URL. If your understanding of the design is what you described, then the actual behavior is not in alignment. I would appreciate you passing that on to the engineers.
Even with the design you describe, there is a problem considering the following use case:
1. User views phone site on their flip phone.
2. User attempts to load desktop site. Site loads, but is not viewable on mobile device.
3. User wants to revert to phone site and does not have ability to click a link, so they go back to the referring page or e-mail which contains ... the original site URL.
After the user clicks desktop link, the site is lost to them, unless they can figure out how to (and agree to) kill all their cookies.

Why can't I actually put widgets on the desktop?

Why can't I actually put widgets on the desktop and have stay on the desktop; not float on top of all my programs so I can’t see what I am doing?
I know there are a few widgets that claim to do this, but they don’t! (Dashit)
Here is the main problem that I have with Dashit; it doesn’t go on the desktop, it floats on top of every program and you can’t make it actually put it on the Desktop! This makes this little widget useless! Why can’t anybody make a widget that actually puts the widgets on the desktop?
What use is it if the darn things just float on top of every program? This just gets in the way. Dose anyone know of a widget or a way to actually put the widgets on the desktop?

Garret, the only way to put Dashboard widgets on the desktop and select the level they live in (so they don't float over everything) is to use either Amnesty Widget Browser or Amnesty Singles. Both are shareware.

How do I get dashboard widgets on the desktop again?

I used to have the stock ticker widget on my desktop all the time, but after I upgraded it disappeared. I used to be able to go into dashboard, clock and hold on a widget, then exit dashboard, and the widget would move to my desktop. Where/why has this functionality gone?

I can't get any widgets onto the Desktop in Lion (10.7.2) even with devmode on. Any ideas anyone?

So, new on the forum.
The problem is, that My sister baught a new iMac 27" with Lion preinstalled and we then updated it to 10.7.2.
Then she wanted the world clock from dashboard to desktop to stay and we found instructions how to do it with dashboard devmode made on in terminal.
But.. it just doesn't work.
We just can't get any widget onto the desktop not for a short time, not for stay.
Does anyone any ideas.
The third party software is not what we are looking dfor..
In the meantime, my mom baught a new iMac 21,5" with Lion and updated it to 10.7.2.
On this machine the widget instructions work fine!

The Class.forName method throws a class not found exception, so ...as the compiler has told you ...you need to catch it or otherwise handle it.
It "must be caught, or declared to be thrown".

Keep Dashboard Widgets on the Desktop

I have a TBD and a MBP, and use both displays. I want to put Dashboard widgets on the MBP desktop.
Found some code to write in Terminal to do this:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
and then re-start the Dock by
killall Dock
That worked, but now my F4 Dashboard key doesn't work, and I can't put any more Widgets on the desktop. Something must be wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With Dashcode made available, widget development is already 'on the desktop' (i.e. readily available). If you simply want the widget to be on your desktop then I don't know what else you can do.

Because you are using the "devmode" trick to move the widget to desktop, it is impossible for you to move it behind any of your applications -- it will always remain on top.
The only way to put a widget on the desktop AND control what layer it appears in is to use the shareware products Amnesty Widget Browser or Amnesty Singles. With these products, you can place the Weather widget on the desktop and make it "not always on top."

Can I put a widget on my Desktop? I need to put my calendar on my desktop but I don´t how to do that.

I hope I am reading your post correctly. If not, please correct my misunderstanding so that other readers can offer better advice.
You might take a look at PandoCalendar at this link — Panda Systems.
It will give you a calendar on your desktop and provides some options for customization. There is also a Help file for the application.
It is Freeware so you can test it to see if it meets your needs.

Using widgets on the desktop

Some large display iMac users may want to use Dashboard widgets on the desktop. There are commercial applications to do this, but for a new, free app, WidgetRunner is worth a look. It allows you to specify whether each widget should float on top, act like a normal window, or be pinned to the desktop:

Items get stuck between desktops

Does anyone else have a problem with items getting 'stuck' between desktops so that you can see them as you move between desktops, but can't access them?
I created an e-mail by dragging a photo to the Mail icon in the dock, but nothing happened so I repeated the exercise. Still nothing happened. I then created the e-mail by copying and pasting the photo into a new blank e-mail and thought nothing more about it. But now, when I swipe between desktops, I can see the two e-mails, complete with photos but no text, straddling two desktops but can't click on them to delete them. If anyone else has experienced this,have they found a way to access the items?

I've found the answer to my own question in an answer by Captfred last year! I right clicked on the Finder icon in the dock, assigned the Finder to "None" desktops and then found lots more things that were hiding between desktops!

I've seen this a few times when Finder was assigned to "all desktops". If this is the case, right click (cntl click) the dock icon > options > assign to none.

Widgets get stuck on desktop.

I just replaced my battery and now widgets are getting stuck in my desktop. Seriously! How do I fix this, it is so strange.

Widgets can be moved to the desktop if you accidently dismiss Dashboard while dragging the widgets from the widget "shelf." To remove these widgets, hold down the option key and click your mouse inside the widget -- an "x" in a circle should appear in the top left corner of the widget. Clicking the x will close the widget and remove it from your desktop.

Web Clip Stuck On Desktop

I made a web clip about a week ago... and i just turned on my computer and it is stuck on the desktop....
When i go to my dashboard to see the widgets... it doesn't show up... its ONLY on my desktop it self
it doesn't go into expose when i use that... it doesn't go into spaces when i use that... its obviously not supposed to be there... so pleasee help!

when you open a window (like finder or mail), is that window above that webclip (i.e. you can´t see the webclip) or underneath.
if window is above that webclip, than chances are it´s not a webclip but an image on your desktopm background.
Go to system settings > desktop & screensaver
and select a different desktop image
a) if window is underneath "webclip" than it is much more tricky...
--> go to dashboard and deselect ALL widgets
--> log out and back in, see if it helps
b) try cocktail, to do a complete system check
