Widget - temperature
My "weather" widget which was installed with 10.4.6 displays temperature only in Farenheit. Is it possible to switch to the more-widely used Celsius?

Open Dashboard, hold your cursor over the weather widget until the i appears on the lower right hand corner of the widget, and click on the i. The widget will flip and reveal a field which will allow you to choose Celsius in the Degrees: field.

Is the FanControlDaemon folder in /library Apple or third party?
I was getting constant errors

on my MBP 2011 in Console and my fan was blowing like crazy all the time until I uninstalled all third-party fan software and the f older in the title. Now, I don't know if the folder in the library should be there or not (the assignment 'daemon' is not used much in Mac I don't think) so it's sitting on my desktop for now. But the fan has stopped screaming and I have no more SMC errors on Console.
I do have a question though. I have free third party widgets (Temperature Monitor) that monitor some temperatures but I don't know how accurate they are. I am a bit confused though. Right now the only visible applications running are Finder, Safari, and Console (well, throw Dashboard in there too) and it's quiet as a mouse. The temperature readings I'm getting are as follows:
Left Palm Rest 25
Main Heatsink2 38
CPU A Proximity 46
CPU A Temperature Diode 48
When I have a bunch of applications going that really tax the CPU the last figure can go into the 80's, fan full blast, but always goes back into the 70's or 60's quickly. When everything is at rest it's as above. No other problems except application specific ones like Mail.app.
I don't understand the difference between the Heatsink and CPU A Proximity and CPU A Temperature Diode. Which one should be concerned more about?
And, again, can I delete the FanControlDaemon folder or should I put it back?
Thanks a lot.All of the temperatures that you report are normal for the types of usage involved. I am always concerned about the temperature that has the highest value, which usually is the CPU. I ignore the rest.
In regards to 'FanControlDaemon' go to the developers website and get the appropriate uninstall instructions. Sometimes one has to reinstall an application and then follow the uninstall instructions in order to rid the MBP of all its elements.

Safari frozen as soon as it opens..........
I recently installed OS 10.5 on my machine (clean install). I then transferred all of my data/settings from an external hard drive. Once that was finished, I then started doing the updates, including Safari 4.0.4. The program will open, but is frozen from the get go. I end up having to use Force Quit to exit it. I have removed any addons manually & have also deleted the plist. In addition to that, I followed the Flash Player steps, but none of it has worked. Firefox & Opera work fine. I am trying to figure out what is causing this problem, as it is beyond annoying. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It works if you have a Seagate drive. Something about SMART technology that monitors the temp of the drive. Mine hovers around 94-95F -

Does anyone know whether there is a temperature sensor for the Toshiba hard drives out yet?
I exchanged my MBP and this one has a Toshiba hard drive and still warm..Just wondering..ThanksI believe that Apple has not enabled the sensors on our MB's and that's why the available temp apps and widgets are not working.

For those wondering what temperatures coincide with what colors on the Droid Turbo Command Center widget (in other words, the color bar just above the temperature on the widget and the corresponding color banner when you tap it for details), a chart can be found here:

As far as I know, Apple has not enabled the temperature sensors in our MBP's...
It could be done via a firmware update if they were willing to do it, or if enough people asks for it (?) -
Awesome systray is not showing all icons, perhaps overlapping widgets?
I have a problem with my Awesome configuration that results in some of the icons being missing or partially missing from my systray. I suspect this is because of some overlapping, since they are partially hidden. You can see the problem in the top right corner.

Did you look at the Gnome wiki article? There's a few sections that sound like what your looking to do, but the examples are USING OTHER WM's. They still might be able to point you in the right direction. -

Hi, my Macbook pro, purchased in November '13, seems to get quite warm when streaming videos or using skype. I understand that these are heavy on the VPU, but it seems to get a lot warmer than my other PC notebooks. The fan was audible for the first time ever today. Is there a trusted app that can be used to measure core temps?

New Mac mini 2.5GHz i5 Temperature
Hi there, I got the new 2011 Mac mini 2.5GHz i5 model on Thursday and I have noticed that it seems to run reasonably hot. I have the iStat Pro widget installed (not sure if it accurate) and it reports a CPU temperature of around 55-60 C at idle (no user applications running) and I have seen it increase up to about 70 C when I was watching 1080p Flash YouTube video. I would just like to know if these temps are normal, so if any of you have this model could you please let me know your temps.
Also, I read that in 10.7 Lion, Adobe Flash does not use hardware acceleration so does mean this will increase the load on the CPU instead of using the GPU for acceleration?

I noticed recently but only really investigated today. The text on my weather widget has all moved up about 5-10 pixels from where it should be. The temperature listing is now sticking about 5 pixels outside and above the background. It looks like the same font and I haven't gotten rid of any fonts lately. I don't know if this is related to 10.4.5 but I noticed it around the time of the upgrade. Any ideas for troubleshooting? Very strange issue.
Yes i have logged out, restarted, refreshed the widget. It's not just the weather widget now. I see that the address book widget is different, my iCal calendar widget has its text moved up, and goodness knows which others. I orignally asked this question on another forum and others reported having the same problems. I wonder if copying the widget from a computer not experiencing this would make a difference. It's really just the text.
You know how when the weather widget is loading the temperature has the - - where the numbers are about to appear... those are in the correct position. As soon as the numbers and other text loads it's significantly higher than those - - would suggest. -
