Widgets don't startup on N97

Hi all!
I'd like to use two widgets on my N97 (FW 11.xxx, newest available ), Facebook and Accuweather. The problem is, both of them refuse to start on boot.
The phone boots normally, but those two widgets never show up. Reinstalling them doesn't solve the problem.
Any ideas?

Take aout the battery and let it rest for let's say 2 min. Put it back again and start the phone pressing space-right shift - leftshift and backspace. Hold the buttons in until you get to choose language (hard reset as mentioned). If this don't work, you might try to connect the phone back to the computer and se if it starts to charge. If it does, try to start it by pushing the on button for a while. If that doesn't work, but the phone charges, try hard reset while booting the device.
If it's still dead after taking out the battery, hard reset, try to connect to pc you will need to take it to a Nokia carepoint i guess.

I've been trying to startup my n97 since yesterday morning. It was fine yesterday morning and when I turned it off to switch the simcards, it wouldn't start back on. Everytime I turn it on, it will bring me to the Nokia screen and it will remain in that state for 30+ secs and then it shuts off itself. This is my second time facing such problem. When I came across it the first time in the plane, I panicked and I just removed the battery couple times and it started back on like normal. So I tried removing the battery and simcard couple times yesterday and it's still the same. I've been looking for different solutions online and none of them worked. And I don't want to hard reset my phone. Any help is really appreciated here!

A hard reset is probably your only solution, better than a brick ? You could try plugging in the charger whilst turned off and then as screen lights hold the power button for a few seconds, if no good you need to resort to the 3 finger salute, sorry.

Validation widget don't work in regions?

Is it true, Validation Widget don't work in regions? If I
create a text validation widget, then wrap it in a region for xml
data, the validation no longer functions for the widget. Is there
something I'm missing here, or does it simply not work in that
configruation?

Hi Nathan,
There is a workaround to have the validation widgets working
inside a spry:region.n
The reason why they don't work inside a region is because the
spry region removes anything from page when it is created. In this
way, the widget remains somewhere in the memory instantiated and
will search from an element that no longer exists.This will make
the widget to not function properly.
You should do the following to have the widgets working
inside a spry:region.
- add the widgets' constructors instantiation inside the
region
- make an extra check if the widgets already exist and
destroy them if any. I

TextArea Validation Widget don't function with Prototype

I have seen that TextAreaValidationWidget don't function
properly if is loaded also the Prototype library. To verify, I have
also simply insert this code in the HEAD section of the
FormsValidation Demo included in the framework:

preview release. To fix this bug you should edit the
SpryValidationTextarea.js. Search for the:

Many widgets don't exist - is the widgets page not maintained?

I was wanting to install the iStat Pro widget in the Dashboard of my on my new MacBook Pro, like it is on my iMac. It appears in "other widgets" but if I try to download it the server is not found.
This seems to be the case with a lot of widgets from the "other widgets" page in the Dashboard.
Is that page not maintained by Apple? They don't check to make sure the widget download links actually go anywhere?

Hi. I had Googled and found that link too. But that download link also doesn't work. I'll try again tomorrow. It's not urgent.
Some widgets I regularly use, like TimeScroller (even though it's not in the widget store). I have to contact people in different parts of the world a lot, so it's convenient to see all my common time zones in one place. And the slider lets me easy see, "If it's 10 am tomorrow morning what time will it be in Mumbai?" Some of the widgets are still convenient. And you can slide to them and slide back.
I wonder why it is a dying project.

Dashboard Widgets don't load

I use dashboard widgets on my wireless router at home but they don't want to load now. I am hooked up to a landline connection and the widgets show up but aren't populating the data. Any ideas?

None of my basic widgets (bluetooth, gps and wifi toggles) appear anywhere. I have done a long click on the home screen and all I get is an option to choose where I want my wallpaper to be sourced. Not interested in that at all. I went to the Store and downloaded a couple of widgets that are supposed to do the same thing, but they don't work, telling me how to install them, but they don't install either. Any ideas? Very frustrating. Thanks.

As to your question about the widgets from the store, does it go through the download of the app, but then you cannot find them anywhere? If so, when you install a "widget" app, they are installed, but you have to then go and add them to your home screen with the procedure talked about already. There may be some configuration to the app, but otherwise a "widget" app has to be placed where you want it.

Widgets don't exist

I've been looking at some of the widgets and they just don't exist. For example I clicked download from the apple website and I get directed to this http://www.beatportmania.net/tool/beatport2.wdgt.zip .
I also tried to download the cheezburger widget and it just redirected me to the website, where there was no where to download it.
Why is this such a useless broken feature, or am I using it wrong?

Unfortunately Apple has not kept up very well on their "Widgets" library. Some of the people who have made widgets have deleted them, yet Apple still links to these dead locations, hence the issues you are having.
You may try simply googling for any sort of widget you are looking for.

Widgets don't always work - help please!

When I open dashboard, all of my widgets appear, however, some of them don't always work. For example, I have two weather widgets for two different cities - sometimes they both show the forecast, sometimes only one, sometimes neither. Furthermore, if I remove the widget and then re-add it, it will then successfully show the forecast. If I click the little "i" and resubmit the city, it still fails. I must reload the widget for it to work. The same goes for my ESPN widgets. Sometimes they retrieve scores, and other times they are "unable," but work just fine if I close them and reopen them. Some more widgets I have problems with occasionally are the ski report, stock report, as well as my family guy quote widget. It really seems rather random when they will and won't work. How can I fix this?
i tried repairing disk permission as well as deleting the widget files in the library/preferences folder, but the same problem still occurs.

Hi Michael, have you tried navigating to ~(yourhome)/Library/Preferences and deleting the "widget-com.apple.widget.worldclock.plist" and others you are experiencing issues with? Log out and back, in or restart, then relaunch widgets and test.

Widget "done" buttons have disappeared

The widgets on my Intel iMac have the "i" button, but when I use it (e.g. to change the zip code on a weather widget, or enter my personal info in an SMS widget), the widget flips as it should, but there's no way to get back to its front when I'm done entering info on the back side, because there's no "done" button any longer. (If I close the widget with the "x" box, the changes aren't saved; when it reopens from the manager, I get the front again, but with the old information.) I looked for a preference file in my preferences, but I don't seem to have one for dashboard. Widget manager works fine, however.
Thanks for any suggestions for getting that "done" button back! Or a workaround....

The two .plist files don't control the display just the widgets required so I don't think they are the problem. What you could do is start a widget directly like a normall app and see if has the "Done" box.
Mac HD / Library / Weather.wdgt
That will start Dashboard and place this widget in the middle of the screen
If you drag a new widget from the selection is it the same with no "Done" button
There is no way in Mac OS to switch Dashboard off that I have found - probably can in Terminal - however there is a nice maintenace app which will do it and a lot of other things including the Apple maintenance tasks. It loads into the right side of the menu bar and start as a login item

Since a few days (don´t know exactly from when) every time i use the social or reader widgets, i must close the connection by hand because when i close session, the connection is still alive for ever...

Dashboard Widgets don´t work with Leopard

After installing Leopard the Widgets worked for a short time.
I have installed the dashboard tools but did nothing with them.
I don´t know if the widgets ran after this.
Now I can press F12, the + sign appears in the left corner.
I can press the + sign and the dashbord appears at the bottom of the desktop.
If I click at a Widget the Dashboard disappears and nothing happens.
No Widget starts.
If I move a Widget to the desktop it disappears if I release the mouse button. The Dashboard disappears too.

i have also reported in this forum (as have others), the problem with the widgets freezing —>> see my post here about it. that post also references other posts that have found the same thing.
yes, we know about the workaround of creating a non-admin. account, logging out of your main account, logging into the non-admin. account, logging back out of that and back into your original admin. account, and then the widgets come back to life. that is a kludgy workaround at best — you shouldn't have to go through those type of machinations just to get your widgets working (so to speak).
also, it should be clear that there are two separate issues here — the widget freeze situation and the widgets just disappearing altogether when dashboard is called up. the widget freeze is the most common one seen under leopard (and nowhere else now). that has nothing to do with the widgets disappearing, which seems to be a general mac os x error, not just leopard.
and to throw more gas on the fire, here's something else — widgets, especially games that use a grid model, do not show up formatted correctly. their grid ends up looking weird. i reference examples to this in my post i list above.
is there a place to bug report this with apple? please advise.

Why some audio of the keynote widget don't work when I preview on the iPad??!!

Now I am making a book about helping people learning Chinese Pinyin (the Chinese phonics).
And I made some interactive exercise with keynote widget, that is you first see a vowel, and there are four colored boxes which have four different sounds, you can just click each box to hear what sound it is, and click the check mark to select your answer. one exercise includes about 7 this kind of questions.
The problem is it works perfectly on keynote, but some sounds just lost every time when I preview on iPad!!
The OS x is 10.8.4, the ibooks author is 2.0, the keynote is 5.3, and I am using the latest iMac and iPad 3.
And the audio file is .m4a. It seems everything is just fine, I feel very frustrated!! Is there something I missed,?
PS, I downloaded a free ibook, which called Korean Phonics, they used the same way to make this exercise, it works very well!! There must be a solution!!

I put an other keyboard (usb-logitech) and it works perfect.
What I also tried to say is that I didn't do anything wrong on my brand new keyboard ( This iMac is a Month old ).
I also wanted to know if there was known problems linked to wireless keyboards...

PowerBook G4 don't startup

My powerbook started to give problems a few days ago. Began to miss the start until now not even starts. When I power on it, hear the startup chime and only get the screen all black. Remain the key power down and hear him turn off. Someone can help me to resolve this. Thank you.

I just posted this for a similar situation ... have you run the Apple hardware test? Find the original OS X disc that shipped with your system, which says "AHT Version x.x" in small print on the label. Assuming you can get it into the CD/DVD drive, reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right and follow directions. Choose the extended test. Does that tell you anything?
