Widgets loaded from the apple site don't install ...
i'm trying to install widgets to my MBP running OSX 10.8.4 that i have loaded from the apple site, and it refuses to install them saying my security settings prohibit installations of software not approved by apple. how to change that setting? i can't find an option in the preferences to allow the widgets to run. i'm assuming the .zip files are ok if they came from apple..... what am i missing?

which plug-in do you want to install?
some of the plug-ins come with an installer on the disk image, you click the installer and it will install it in its proper location.
For others you move the plug-in into to System Library or your User Library:
Your Hard disk > Library > Application Support >Aperture > Plug-Ins > Edit
or
Your Home Folder > Library > Application Support >Aperture > Plug-Ins > Edit
If it is an "Edit" plug-in, it goes into the "Edit" subfolder, "Export" plug-ins into the "Export" subfolder.
You can tell by the extension, what kind of plug-in it is.
E.G. BorderFX.ApertureExport is an export plug-in, BorderFXEditPlugin.ApertureEdit an edit plug-in.

P.S. In OS Lion the Libraries are hidden by default: To reveal your User Library activate the Finder and select from the main Finder menu:
Finder > Go , then hold down the ⌥-option-key, untill the Library appears in the drop.down menu.
To show the System Library:
Finder > Go > Go to Folder

Whether you need to buy Mac OS X 10.7.3 depends on what version of OS X you have now.
If you have OS X 10.6.x or lower it is a paid upgrade from the Mac AppStore.
If you have OS X 10.7.x it is a free upgrade you get using Software Update on your Mac. -
How to Download Leopard from the Apple site
Well my MBP dumped its hard drive this weekend. I have installed a new HD but I can't find my Leopard installation disk any where.
Is there a way I can download the entire OS from the Apple site?No. Your Mac if it came with Leopard shipped with operating system discs for Leopard restoring. If you lost your discs, call AppleCare for replacement discs. If you bought your Mac from a non-Apple authorized source, contact them for the discs, and ask them to contact AppleCare for the discs if they lost them. The discs that shipped with the Mac should not be separated from the Mac, and should always be kept in a safe place.

I got a message saying I didn't have java installed. I went to the apple site and downloaded JavaForMacOSX10.7.dmg and installed java. but it still says I don't have java installed.
I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

I have tried to install the software from several sites including the apple site and they all say that the software is corrupted and did not install correctly to delete and reinstall. this seems unlikely as it has been weeks since I have been retrying the sites with the same results...is there an apple download that will check my pc for any errors that may be keeping the itunes from installing.. or is there anything else i can do to fix the issue.. its unlikely that itunes could stay corrupted for so ling without noticing it and fixing the issue..thank you...

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Can you put icons for those apps on the desktop part of the ipod touch?
ThanksWeb apps only run when loaded from the web. They can't be saved to the touch.
That may change next year when Apple releases the def kit. -
From what I've gathered looking around the forums, the answer seems to be yes.
However through searching more and more, I've seen some people have said otherwise or had some difficulties using their phone internationally with a different sim, so I just want to make sure that I can use it internationally with all the full features.Thanks. I guess also my main concern is that I've heard about problems people have encountered when buying their iPhone from Carphone Warehouse here in the UK (unlocked) that once they've inserted their sim it automatically became locked to that one service provider.
I however will be buying directly from the Apple store, so I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to get trapped by my iPhone locking to the first carrier I insert into my phone.
Other than that I understand that certain carriers might require agreements/contracts to get connected. -

When installing the new update 9.0.7 to iMovie either via a dmg file or from the software updater the install will not complete the installation. The indicator bar just stays in the same place with the note install time remaining about a minute. I have let it set for hours and nothing happens. Does anybody have any advice?
Try this.
After signing into the Mac App Store (MAS) with your iTunes Apple ID, look at the Purchased page. You should see the three bundled iLife apps listed with Accept buttons. After you have accepted them and Apple has verified that they came on a new Mac and assigned them to your Apple ID and iTunes/MAS account, you should be able to update them. -
Brand new Macbook, bought games from the Apple store, won't install!!!!!!!!
Hello folks, I finally broke down and entered the "MacWorld". While visiting my local Apple Store, my son became engrossed in a couple of games that were available for play. After much begging, I bought him two, fun, educational games, both Mac ready. One game, the "School Zone Kindergarten" easily installed one disk (the "math" portion), no problem. However, the second disk (the "reading" portion), just clicked and made funny sounds and was kicked out without installing. I tried several times. The second game, "Sponge Bob Typing" does the same thing, whirrs and clicks around but doesn't install.
I'm guessing this is operator error (as usual), so could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I was told Mac's are super user friendly, so what gives? Does mine hate me or something? Please help! I have a pretty upset little boy staring at me here, with his big sweet brown eyes, like I'm supposed to be able to DO anything. It's killing me! Please help! And many, many THANKS!

In your case, and this is only my opinion, they will take the software back, since it's obvious it would not work and they said it would. Besides, you are a very good customer now

Since you have to go back to return the software, bring it all with you, along with the computer, and show the geniuses the problem.

Be very very sure to create a standard user account for your son. Keep your admin account for yourself. -

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop. When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". I have no idea what this means or what to do about it. I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up. I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes. What should I do to fix this?
What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future. -
