Widgets made in Leopard

When I make a widget from Safari using Leopard, where does the widget go? Can I find move the file?

Hi
From the description in this recent Macworld article (Create Web Clips), it seems the user created widgets are not saved as individual files. If you deselect a User created widget from the dashboard, it is gone from the system.

  • Can I use the backups that I made with Leopard ?

    Hi,
Can I use the backups that I made with Leopard or do I have to re-configure Time Machine again, like it never happened when SL is installed ?
    Sincerely.

You should only have to worry about doing this, if you choose to erase and install Snow Leopard.
Snow Leopard by default upgrades your system, and thus a restore would only be necessary in an emergency.

  • Widgets Freeze in Leopard

All my widgets worked in Tiger, but in Leopard they freeze. When I first open Dashboard all the widgets work fine, but when I hide the Dashboard, then open it again, all the widgets are frozen. When I open Activity Monitor and force quit the Dashboard then open Dashboard, the widgets work, however when I hide the Dashboard and open it again the widgets are all frozen again.
Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks!

Thanks Joseph. Yes I have third party widgets. And I did as you instructed. Thanks to your help I believe I've narrowed the problem down to one widget, RadarInMotion (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/information/radarinmotion.html). I use to have four of these widgets running at one time, because of my outdoor activities I have become a hobbyist meteorologist and needed four different weather maps. But now I've noticed that if I have more than two of these widgets in the Dashboard all the widgets will freeze.
I'll attempt to come up with another solution for monitoring the weather.
    thanks for your help.

  • Is my macbook pro made for leopard or tiger?

i have the intel core duo....and i tried leopard and it was pretty unstable.....i'd rather have a more stable OS that one that has a little more features. by technical specs, which os is my computer made for? thanks

Since G4s of 867 Mhz or greater, and G5s are also compatible with Leopard, this suggests something about how you installed Leopard was the problem and not that your machine is not built-in for Leopard. My FAQ* explains how to prevent upgrade failure:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
If it should still prove unusable to you, it is possible you just have some set of applications that aren't properly designed for Leopard. But your machine should work just fine with Leopard.

  • Thread about experiences made with Leopard deleted ?

Strangely I found the thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1194858 being no longer available.
More strange is, that this was just an exchange of experiences in installing Leopard to G4 notebooks; although few critics has been made there, the majority of the reports was positive.
I'm aware that this forum is an official one hosted and maintained by Apple, but they should respect the statements of others, as long as they are made out of own experiences and not hurting others. And I found nothing different at this thread (just that not everybody participated at that typical hype for Leopard
Has Apple thought about that such behavior makes people leaving this discussion board and no longer participating actively ?
But perhaps deleting the mentioned thread just was a technical issue... maybe caused by installing Leopard

Nice to see that this problem got so much attention, but I wonder when Apple will delete this thread...
Anyway, I was subscribed to the thread in question and followed all messages posted there. Beside one message, that could be considered a bit doubtful (but not really rude), nothing insulting was stated. It had been quite easy to remove this single posting, if someone found it offending. There was no need in removing the entire thread.
The thread consisted of user experiences with Leopard installing on their older PowerBooks. Most have had smaller issues, my advise was to wait for a later bug-fixed version before upgrading and one or two people have had no problems at all. So I don't see any illegal issues (except you feel that it is illegal advising to wait for 10.5.2 or higher to really get a stable OS
Let me state a controversial theory: Apple hates threads in which about bugs or inconsistencies of their products or software is talked and has instructed their mods to remove them when they become aware of (e.g. see the display problems tried being discussed at the PowerBook board that were regularly deleted.
Personally, if this theory is true, I would be ashamed about Apple. But at least could await that their usage terms contains a paragraph like "Postings that criticize Apple products... are subject of immediate deletion.". So everybody knows what they can await from such a board and what not.
Please don't misunderstand me. I like this board, it was helpful for me many times and I surely will use it in the future to find solutions for problems and ask for assistance. But I will think twice whether or not giving active advise by myself when I need to fear that messages and threads I worked on are removed without comments.

  • Widget madness?

    hi,
still learning how to use my new ibook, and been downloading widgets, but there are two in particular that when i download one, it deletes another and replaces it with that one. i thought maybe it was a space issue, so deleted some widgets didnt like and tried again with no success.
the two widgets in question are m@radio and einstein quote widget. i had m@radio earlier and then when i downloaded the einstein one m@radio disappeared and was replaced?? very annoying situation as i want both. any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    thank you,
    Yolande

Thank you for taking time to help. It is very appeciated. I rebooted from the installer disk & ran Disk Utility. I tried in the past to repair the permissions, that did not resolve the issue. I have also rebooted from the start up disk and tried to do the "Repair Disk", however, it will not allow to to choose that option; only Verify or Repair Permissions is allowed for the Hard Disk.
Current, very few Widgets will work at all. The Widget Manager will not close and four Widgets that are not installed are still being monitered by this application. It lists: Calculator, Address Book, "Over Flow Text Case, it...", and "One More is Four" are still showing up in the non-closable Widget. The "Choose more widgets" button does nothing, nor can you close the Widget Manager. The Activity Moniter shows this Widget working. I can Force Quit it from there, only to have it immediately reopen.
I am at the point of just reinstalling the Operation System. However, whenever I try to do this, I insert the Mac Mini Mac OS X Install Disk 1, I choose the "Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software" icon, it then promts me to restart, at which time it ejects the disk and the whole cycle starts over. It never allows me to reinstall.
Any additional help or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. I have read numerous people across the net who have had this exact same problem. I have not seen the solution yet. I hope you are it Thanks again.

  • Menu widgets problem in Leopard

Hi, I have a G5 205 + 3 gigs of ram. I am having an interesting problem the widgets on the right of the screen. Their menu drop down to the middle of the screen. Instead of directly below the icon.

  • Can A Boot Camp Partition Made With Leopard Live With Tiger?

If I downgrade from Leopard back to Tiger, will my Boot Camp XP partition still be bootable and recognizable?

The short answer is YES. I say that because now all driver updates are offered by apple on the WINDOWS SIDE via Apple Software Update so you shouldn't need Leopard for that. This means that downgrading to Tiger should not affect the Windows partition and its contents.
Be sure to back up everything before downgrading.

Regarding flash.....I had a freeze-up problem up until yesterday, and it seems as if the flash plug-in was causing this. I had read a fix that someone else experiencing the same problem did, and it worked for me. The first step was to move the following 2 files out of the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ directory....
    Flash Player.plugin
    flashplayer.xpt
I created a temp directory for them. I then restarted. I left them disabled for awhile. When I had no more freezes, I moved them back. No freezes since. This has only been happening since the update to 10.6.3.
I'm not saying this may help, but it may be worth a try. I was freezing up every few minutes at times. Nothing in over 24 hours.

  • Remove Safari Widgets

I want to remove a widget - made by Safari - from the Dashboard - I have used almost an hour to find this Widget on the harddisk - but so far without succes.
    Any help ?
Thanks in advance - Greetings from Copenhagen - Frank

    Hi,
When in Dashboard, hold down the option/alt key and click the (x) button that appears to remove it.
The widget file itself is probably under /Users/YourUsername/Library/Widgets/
I don't have Leopard so am not sure what naming convention is used for the Safari web clips.

  • Upgrading for OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I have a 24" iMac with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB od memory. I bought the Mac Box Set and tried installing Snow Leopard. Everything went fine. Until it came time to restart. It only gets as far as the background image coming up, a magnifying glass in the upper right corner (no gray toolbar, BTW) and a spinning beach ball.
The only way I can get it to work is in "safe" mode by holding down the shift key when starting up. I have tried reinstalling Snow Leopard and starting up from that disc, verifying the disk and repairing it, but it didn't find anything that needed repair.
Is anyone else having the same problem? I couldn't find a comparable problem here in the discussions. I apologize if this is a duplicate post to someone else's problem. Thanks!

Not sure how it works, but I thought I read that the upgrade isn't available from Tiger to SL.One has to fresh install Snow Leopard. So, did you do an upgrade or a fresh install, then moving all your tiger applications and data from a backup disk using Migration Assistant?
Another problem I may see is that some Tiger applications may not be compatible at all with Snow Leopard. And you didn't get the option to update them to the latest releases because they were made for Leopard.
What I'd suggest to do is the following:
    - Have a backup of your original Tiger disk
    - Do a fresh install of SL
    - Boot it a couple of times and check that the main things (ethernet, wifi, mouse, safari, etc) work
    - use migration assistant to get your old data into the new installation
If it still doesn't work, in safe mode check for the applications starting at the login, and disable/delete them. If possible try to update all apps to trhe latest release.

  • My keynote widget in iBooks Author doesn´t work.

Hi there! I can´t previsualize in my iPad a keynote widget, made for a book in iBooks Author... it simply doesn´t appear... does anybody know if I´m missing a step?? I drag the file in a keynote and also in HTML formats and it just doesn´t work. Thank you!

  • Widgets in Captivate 5

A Captivate 5 module that has any type of widget in the module will not scale with the browser window when viewed from Connect.
A  Captivate 5 module that does not contain a widget will scale with the  browser window when view from Connect while in a coarse or curriculum.
It appears that is a Captivate issue. I have the same thing happening  when I view the project from my web server. I just had a widget made for  me and the person who made it was able to explain why with happens.
"In  most widgets there are some lines of code added to restrict the “stage  scale mode” in Flash. This is used because if this is not used then  Captivate will not place the Widget Properties panel at the correct  location and therefore you wouldn’t be able to fill in the properties.  Apparently (but I don’t see why) this is also causing the Captivate SWF  to restrict the scale mode and therefore Connect Pro cannot scale your  Captivate SWF."
Anyone know how to fix this. It is causing all kinds of problems for me with Window sizing.

That is the way the widget is supose to look I know it does not look right.
The reason is that most widgets have this line of code inside to make the Widget user interface fit inside of the widget window when viewed inside of Captivate.
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
This however is passed along to the published Captivate swf thus preventing scaleing with the browser window.
    If this code is used
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_BORDER;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
You can no longer see what is in the Widget window within Captivate because the inferface content scales inside of the window parameters.
The Scale widget's only purpose it to Neutralize the No_SCALE that is in most widgets. So all you have to do is import it. Nothing needs to be changed.
Also it is worth noting that this widget has to be on the same slide as a normal widget to work and they have to be in equal numbers to neutralize.
    Ex.
Slide one has three normal widget and each contains a NO_SCALE line of code. To neutralize the three NO_SCALE's you will have to have three of Stage Scale widgets.
Also some widgets have more than one NO_SCALE lines within them like the Certificate widget. It has two. So you have to add two Stage scale on the slide to neutralize it.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Colorsync Engine is still not working correct in Snow Leopard 10.6.4

Colorsync Engine in 10.6.4 causes Print faults in Photoshop CS5.
A light cyan tone is being printed around pictures, where there should be plain paperwite.
I really would appreciate some help.
The problem shows when using custom paper profiles.
(The only situation, in which the problem does not show:
If sRGB is chosen as the printerprofile or if the paperprofile is chosen that belongs to the mediatype chosen in the Epson printersetting. Both are no options as they do not allow to print a colourmanaged print)
So it is obvious that there is still something wrong in the way the different profiles are matched....

I am no beginner - you can believe this.
No insult meant at all. Just no way of knowing how much you do know on the subject.
I have custom paper profiles written for all my papers for this one printer Epson 4800 from targets I printed with no colour management from the printer driver and no colour profile tagged.
No problem there. That is the correct way to print the color patches for profiling.
There is no reason within the paperprofile to make the sourrounding area of the picture to be printed white...
In a very technical sense, there is. All profiles are built to include the ability to choose any rendering intent. So the option for Absolute Colorimetric is in there. Which leads to...
And besides that: How could a profile make an area be printed with a cyan tone that is around the image that is printed. In relative colorimetric rendering. How can you explain this?
It was just a thought. It wasn't until after I mentioned the possibility of using Absolute Colorimetric that you noted you always use Relative Colorimetric.
And the profiles worked before - under 10.5.8.
And they should in Snow Leopard. I'm using all of the printer profiles I made in Leopard for both an Epson Stylus Pro 4000 and a Xerox 6280DN in Snow Leopard. Color is identical from the same applications and the same test images. Both CMYK and RGB. I was able to easily test this as I have both 10.5.x and 10.6.x installed on two drives of the same Mac. So it was just a matter of booting into one, printing the images, then the other to do the same and compare output.
    You noted at Adobe's forum:
Around the document, the printable space is filled with a very light colour.
Then printed it 5 to 6 times on the same sheet so it would be easier to see the cyan tone being printed. How was this tone added? I ask because your screen shot shows pure white as the background color. Is it neutral? Such as an RGB value of 253, 253, 253? If everything is correct (settings, profile, etc.), it should build up as a slowly darkening gray, not cyan. But you already know that.
But even if you choose no colour management in the printer driver, there are profiles and media settings that belong to the media you choose in the printer driver.
Not quite sure what you mean there. If you choose no color management, then any profiles in the printer driver are disabled. As far as the media settings, the paper you choose tells the printer the weight of the media going through it, so it can adjust the height of the guide tray. Important for heavy stock (canvas in particular) so it doesn't rub while going through. But much more importantly, it tells the printer how much ink to use. Plain paper will cause the printer to use a different amount of ink than if you choose something like Premium Glossy, even though both may be set to use a print quality setting of 2880 dpi.
The point there is that it is equally important to choose the exact same paper settings in the print driver as were used when the targets were printed, even though color management is turned off.
Actually, the issue may be how old these profiles are. I never print straight to the Epson 4000 since a profile can't account for drift. I go through the full version of the ColorBurst RIP for everything. The reason why is so you can account for hardware drift by re-linearizing when you notice grays starting to go pink/green/blue, etc. All inkjet printers drift as they are used. Meaning, the size of the dots change as the heads and ink pumps wear out. It's slow, but it does shift the color slightly as time goes by. Linearizing brings the gray balance and gamut back to its original point without having to create an entirely new profile.
A straight profile can't account for this. As the printer's color shifts, the profile can't move with it and colors shifts on your output starts to become apparent.

reinstall the original video card to install leopard
That should work fine. In my case, that wasn't an easy option because the Mac arrived from Apple with the upgraded card in place and my client would have had to buy a video card just to install the OS.
It's been years since I had a version of MacOS that required inits for specific machines. It caught me by surprise, but was totally understandable. The machine was made after Leopard was released and it did come with a proper DVD with the required video drivers, but my client had misplaced it. His Family Pack Retail DVD was the version of MacOS that was on the shelf at Amazon at the time and normally this isn't a problem for anyone because they are always out-of-date and require the user to bring up the OS to the latest version.
I suppose Apple replaced the DVD with an newer version because of the special order status of the machine.
