WiDi on Yoga 13

Hello, Lenovo!
Please, tell me one thing: is it possible to install any Intel mini-PCIe wireless adapter with WiDi support (like Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260) into free mini-PCIe slot and get WiDi on Yoga 13 (with Core i7 3537U)?

It is possible if you have an Intel 7260 card.
Both N signle band, N dual band and AC (sorry) versions do support WiDi.

So since Windows update offered a new Intel graphics driver 10.18.10.3379 I've had an odd quirk in connecting to my adapter.
I will connect to my PTV3000 fine, use it and disconnect all fine.  The quirk comes in after I shutdown my PC and restart it.  The next time I turn on the PC when I attempt to connect to the adapter, Charms>Devices>Project  I am not given a list of adapter but the list of display options: Disconnect, Duplicate, Extend, Second Screen Only ???????????????
Why after the PC has been off (overnight) and freshly started would it think it's connected to an adapter already?
I have to perform a Restart in order for it to reset properly and show me a list of devices to connect to.  This is pretty annoying since I just turned the PC on int eh first place.  I will note that upon shutdown, I have checked that the PTV3000 is fully disconnected and the Project menu is showing the device as eligible to connect to.
    Specs
    Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro
    Intel Dual-Band Wireless AC 7260 - 16.6.2.1
    Intel Graphics 4400 - 10.18.10.3379
    Ideas?

Since the PTV is showing as a display on the Project menu that means the PC thinks it has successfully recoginized the device and thus a successful installation.  Which it obviously does not.
    Uninstall the widi software.
Go to Control Panel>Devies and Printers, delete the PTV device
    Reinstall Wifi drivers
    Reinstall Graphics drivers
Reboot (you probably will have to after reintalling those drivers anyway)
Then try to Add/connect to the PTV again.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - WiDi with ScreenBeam Pro not working

I have spent hours on this problem like several others in the 9 page message thread that also deals with this topic. I am starting a new thread because the other one has not been updated for some time and it is quite large with tangent topics.
First, I have two brand new Yoga 2 Pro's with Windows 8.1 (had them for two weeks) and I recently purchased the Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro and started working with it last night.
Second, *both* of the Yoga 2 Pro's are behaving in exactly the same way, and I'll describe that in a moment. Both systems are also update with the latest drivers. I have taken the time to compare all installed versions with the latest available from either Lenovo or Intel. All of the latest Windows updates have been applied. I am religious about keeping my systems patched. I'm not trying to impress anyone, but I've been an IT engineer for 31 years and build and over-clock all of my desktop systems; I know my way around.
Third, the firewall was disabled during one interation just to demonstrate that it was not the problem.
Now, here are the installation steps and the resulting problem:
The ScreenBeam is properly connected to an HDTV and is displaying it's initial screen
Swiping into Charms and making my way down to  PC and devices -> Devices -> Add a device, results in the Screen Beam being discovered as a television, a PIN being displayed on the TV screen, and that PIN is then entered at the prompt from the "add device" dialog. The ScreenBeam also displays the fact that it was able to succesfully pair with the wireless adapter and displays a screen on the TV stating that it is waiting for a connection. I then access the Project menu through Charms->Devices->Project, but there is *NOT* a selection for projecting to the TV. Eventually, the ScreenBeam times out waiting for the connection and tells you to relauch the wireless display app.  At this point, the ScreenBeam is present in the Devices and Printers window as SBWD DF9945-SBWD100A., but it is not active because there is no connection. So, therein lies the problem; I cannot project to the TV screen.
I have performed multiple iterations by  deleting the device from Devices and Printers and performing the process again in a very systematic manner to make sure I did not miss anything, and the result is the same. I have performed the steps on two different, brand new systems with the same result.  Just for grins, I went out to the Intel site and downloaded their latest WiDi Software, and it simply *wiil not* install on Windows 8.1; the installation terminates stating that the plaform is not supported, including calling out that the operating system is not supported.
From reading the other thread, I see that this same configuration has worked for multiple people.  I checked the firmware level on my ScreenBeam, and it is the latest version of 1.1.9.0, so there is nothing further to do there.
I have been all over the web looking at similar reports, and I have not found a definitive solution. Lenovo support was no help at all, and they wanted to charge me $69 to speak with a specialist, which I declined. IMO, Lenovo needs to step up the plate and offer help with this; they offer the ScreenBeam as a supported accessory in their on-line store where I bought the systems. Granted, that is not a binding agreement and does not carry the legal weight of a hardware or software product description,  but given that two brand new systems cannot use that accessory, it would seem to me that they would want to understand the problem so that they can offer a solutioh to their current and future customers.
So, I am hoping that someone from Lenovo will take an interest in this problem and contact me.
    Regards,
         Dan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hello all, I have determined the cause of the problem and WiDi is now fully operational! It turns out that even though I had disabled the firewall in the internet security product that I used, the virtual packet filtering NIC's that it creates appear to have been causing the problem. The tip-off came along after I installed the Actiontec configuration utility from the MS App store (it's free!). I installed it because I had nothing else to test with other than adding/removing the device from within Windows. I found that the configurator app would actually connect about 1 - 2 times out of 10 attempts and I was able to access the ScreenBeam and change it's configuration. The intermittency led me to believe that it was network related yet all other network traffic was fine. I went digging further into WiDi operation and noted the virtual NIC's in Device Manager; in order to see them you must enter Windows Device Manager and set it to show hidden devices. What jumped out were the virtual packet filtering virtual NIC's created by the internet security solution. The only way that I knew of to remove them was to completely uninstall the security solution. I did that, rebooted and everything stared working. Once I rediscovered the Actiontec and entered a new PIN, the "Add a wireless display" choice was now available in the Project menu. I enabled Windows Firewall and I am using MS anti-malware tools to have some kind of protection for the system. I am going to search their KB to see if this is a known problem and report it if I find that it is not; I'll update again once I have more news. The security solution that I use is Vipre Internet Security 2014 from GFI Software. I have used it for many years on all of my systems because I have found it to be a high quality product, and this is the first time I've ever had an issue with it such as this. So, for those that have had the same problem I had with WiDi, and you are using an internet security solution that provides it's own firewall, I suggest that you first try to disable it and see what effect it has. In my case, disabling was not enough, I had to completely remove it. Dan

  • Yoga 11s - WIDI/Miracast stopped working

WIDI or Miracast stopped working properly after I got my screen replaced by Lenovo warranty repair.
Prior to the repair, I had no issues with connecting to my smart TV (samsung UN55F6400)
I got the latest drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and RTL8723AU wireless adapter, but still no go.
    What happens:
I can add a new device and mirror my screen, but after I disconnect, the next time I try to connect it says "Tap to fix the connection", then I have to set it up again as a new connection.
It used to work flawlessly before so not sure what changed.
Anyone else have any issues or successes?
If it works for you, can you post your driver versions for the graphics and wireless adapter?

Looks like Lenovo should fix your laptop under warranty in Turkey. According to the Lenovo Support website this model is covered in Turkey. If you haven't already done this, go here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/contactus
Select Laptops - Yoga Series (last option at the bottom) - Yoga 11s
You will get a page with multiple options, click on International Warranty Services in the middle of the page. When you scroll down you will see Turkey listed there. This list changes for each model and is how Lenovo determines if your specific product can be serviced in a particular market. My specific laptop model has no countries showing there other than USA, no international warranty.
I suggest you escalate it on the phone and go as high up as needed.

  • Widi on the yoga

Does anybody know if widi is possible on the Yoga 13?  I know you need an Intel wireless chip and the yoga comes with a realtek wireless chip but I know there are Intel half PCIe adapters that you can buy for laptops.  I just don't know if the yoga has a half PCIe slot available or if there is any other way to get Widi on the yoga. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    This is so disappointing.
The Yoga has not been shipped here in the Uk yet and I was looking forward to getting one as it seemed to tick all the boxes - provided it did offer a 256 GB SSD option.
Through this forum I have realised it does not support WiDi which I assumed it would. Why on earth does Lenovo not offer this ? They probably have not understood how people now use laptops or PCs these days to stream video off the net and project on a large screen.
Such a basic marketing mistake. Such a shame, I thought this was really the right convetible for me !

  • Yoga 13 touchpad not working at one spot

    Hi,
i bought an Ideapad Yoga 13 from amazon and it has one problem. One spot on the left side of the touchpad is not working. When I move my finger to that point, the cursor does not move and the little icon in the notification area of Windows 8 does not show any pressure. The area goes from top to the bottom of the touchpad but is only a few millimeters wide. This is very annoying when I move my finger from one side of the touchpad to the other for example when I'm dragging something with the cursor, because at this point the cursor just stops.
Could this be a problem with the driver or is my touchpad faulty and I should just send the Yoga 13 back? Also do I send it to amazon or lenovo?
Thanks for any answers and suggestions.

    hi pagefault,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
One way to try this out is to Uninstall the Synaptics Driver and try the touchpad using windows driver if it still the same.
    To Remove Synaptics Driver:
Go and open Control Panel / Programs and Feature / uninstall a program
You will see Synaptics as one of the programs, Uninstall that and restart the Computer.
Once restarted Try the touchpad and see if the problem is still there.
Verify that the synaptics driver is uninstalled by Checking the mouse properties
Open Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Mouse
This option should be gone if the synaptics driver is uninstalled
If Without a driver,  you're still having the same issue I would consider this as a Hardware Concern.
You can contact Amazon or Lenovo Technical Support  about the issue.
If the problem disappeared without a driver
Try reinstalling the Synaptics driver by downloading and installing this
Synaptics TouchPad Driver for 64-bit Windows

  • Yoga 13" Clementine Orange - Mini review

I got my Yoga 13, Orange, 8gb ram and 256gb SSD on Monday the 17th. I also ordered the slot case and the screen protector as well. In this post I’ll do a mini review of the unit that I got. I hope this will give people here some useful information.
I really really wanted to like this laptop. But sadly, after playing around with it all day (and night!) I returned the Yoga earlier today. There were some major issues that I encountered that was definitely a deal breaker and I feel are things that should not exist in a $1500 laptop.
Lets start with the good stuff first: The first impressions were great.
    Exterior
Exterior build quality was very nice. The shell felt very solid and the orange color looked awesome! I believe the shell is aluminum with a rubber-like coating applied on. So when you hold it, you get a very good grip and at no point where i felt the laptop was going to slip out of my hands. Power buttons and volume button (in both design and positions) mimicked those as seen on tablets. The position of these buttons make alot of sense when the Yoga is in tablet mode. Everything looked VERY sturdy and felt well built.
Upon opening the laptop, I was greeted with a very nice looking and interestingly textured palm rest area. The texture has an almost faux leather look to it but it definitely feels rubbery, smooth and a little cushion-like. Its is hard to explain but when I'm resting on it, it feels very nice to the skin and it certainly insulates any type of temperature changes from transferring your palms/wrists unlike some metal enclosures. Very interesting material choice for sure.
The keyboard area looked very nice. Typing on it was very comfortable and keys were responsive.
Trackpad was OK. I found my self accidentally right clicking and the pointer acceleration as a bit wonky. Not the worst trackpad I used but also not great.
    Usage
Battery life after the first full charge showed a little less than 6 hours. Machine was dead quite and everything was silky smooth loading apps and painting with my fingers. There was a surprising minimal amount of bloatware installed. Even with the Lenovo software, non of which was "in your face". First boot-up of the machine went through windows 8 account setup and subsequent boot up time was about 4-5 seconds. EXTREMELY fast.
Looking at the device manager, my 256gb ssd is sporting one made by Samsung. One interesting I found was the wireles/bluetooth module is made by realtek and is interfacing with the system via USB 2.0.
    Tablet Mode/Tent Mode/etc
This is the reason I bought this laptop. As a graphic artist, my plan was to use this as a sketchpad, photo editing and light animation use. As I mentioned, the touchscreen was very responsive and Windows 8 "Metro" felt right at home here. Even using the touchscreen with desktop apps was a lot of fun. I spent maybe an hour or two playing in paint before I remembered that I should install photoshop (LOL).
I found the Yoga's touch capabilities most satisfying and usable in tent mode and tablet mode. In regular laptop mode, touching the screen bounces and moves the screen which gets annoying. In stand mode, same thing.
Aside from painting with my fingers, I tested the touchscreen with a touch screen stylus i got on Amazon. It worked ok as i needed to put quit a bit of pressure in order for the screen to register the tip of the stylus where as using the same stylus on other touchscreens (ipad 2, nexus 7, nexus 4, droid x) did not require any force.
    Speed and performance
Everything felt snappy and ran all my programs great. It works and it works well. I did not run any benchmarks or anything as I was more concerned with testing my usage habits.
This laptop sounds wonderful, why the hell did i return it?!
After a couple of hours playing with it, that's when I started to notice some glaring problems.
    Lets go down the list:
    Screen Flicker issue
This was a surprise to me. After the first few hours of using the laptop. I notice the screen would flicker once in awhile. It seems to be random but I notice to be more apparent especially when I load up new programs and when I am quitting them. It is almost as if there is a loose connection or interference somewhere. At first I thought it was the automatic brightness playing tricks on me so I proceeded to turn it off. Nope, the flickering was still there. This is a real deal breaker (duh).
    High pitch whine
Yes, there is a high pitch whine and buzzing sound that emanates from the laptop (coil whine). I couldn't pin point the exact location but it seems to come from around the F3 key area. I don't have an overly quiet room. When I heard this whine, I was actually playing some music in the background. The sound was unbearable!
    Fan noise, rattling noise.
The sound of the air movement coming from the laptop, I don't mind and I barely notice it. But the there is a rattling sound coming from the fan itself. I build my own PCs and I've owned some cheap fans before where it makes the same noise. The fan in the Yoga is not a good quality fan. The fan also stays on most of the time. It is not excessively loud but it seems it needs to be on much more than it needs to be. Either that, it seems like it can run at a lower RPM.
    The Loose Keyboard
Yes you read that right. The keyboard is loose. This is very apparent when you press any keys in the F7 to F12 keys area (or any other keys around those). When you press any of those keys, you will FEEL and SEE that the whole area of the keyboard will sink in. I'm not exaggerating.
This should not happen in any laptop at any price range, and this one costs $1500 USD. This is unacceptable. I don't think this is even a QC issue, it is a design issue. As seen in other threads in this forum and other forums, the keyboard is attached on there with double sided tape. Wha??
    Palm rest area flex
As I mention prior, the texture feels great and feels soft almost cushion like. Well it turns out, the cushion like feel is the result of that area flexing in. No joke. Pressing on the palm rest area with my fingers reminds me of pressing on the surface of a water bottle. You'll feel this even more when in tablet mode. It feels plain fragile.
    Screen Protector
It Sucks. Don't know how to put it another way. It is the worst screen protector you can get. Yea you can see through it but that it is. The material gives the surface a lot of traction so you'll find your fingers getting stuck on it while swiping the screen. I wish Lenovo would make the glass (or at lease offer a screen protector) similar to cellphone / tablets screens where they put a oleophobic coating so your fingers glide on the surface. So yea, save the money and forget about the Lenovo screen protector.
    Slot Case
Its ugly, it feels cheap and it looks cheap. The texture of the case is just..I don't even know what it is. It is just SOOOOOO ugly. The material of the case will probably last maybe 6 months use. Its not even practical as 1.5" of the laptop sticks out at the opening. What?? Did i mention it is crazy ugly?
    Overall
Great concept, great idea. Execution, not so good. Build quality not consistent, major design issues that keeps this from becoming a good laptop. The price tag (i paid $1500) makes this even more so.
Returning the laptop. Lenovo customer support
I had a really good experience. The post-sales rep from somewhere in India was courteous and quick. After I explained  why I wanted to return the laptop, my return was processed immediately and I was told I would be getting a full refund. My shipping labels was emailed to me very quickly and total time spent on the phone  was about 15 min.
    Closing thoughts
It might seem I might have gotten a bum unit but from looking at the other threads in this forum and other forums, It seems other people are having some similar problems as me. I didn't want to exchange for a new unit (and waiting even longer) and experience these issues again. I see these are design issues, not QC issues.
The Yoga has a HUGE potential to be an amazing ultrabook/laptop (booktablet??). Huge potential. Maybe the Yoga 2 will get that chance.
I’m traveling in a week so I went ahead and reordered the Asus UX32VD. (lol should of kept my first UX32VD)

Well, that's a mighty polite way of saying to just wait for the worst, and I had been editing my post's praise softer as you replied. Today my keyboard fold works, but a worse problem of the screen blacking out or turning to colorful snow occurs, with only a reboot clearing it. Well, I will see if it is transient and comment on...
    EDITED INSERT
yoga ie lost all my paragraph breaks, and even in android i cannot restore them below this point for some reason. so pardon the runon until i tame this...
I ordered the yoga 13max because my 10 inch android tablets were getting bogged down making the 2d charts I need, as well as the screen being a little small. My 17 inch MacBook pro is too ungainly, hot, and noisy for an easychair with no desk. The yoga really straddles the gap between them well, as mainly a powerful tablet and an adequate sometime laptop for type intensive work or transferring media from usb disk drives to media players. I have always hated windows (and IOS for that matter) but win8 seems headed in the right direction. IE is not yet up to the touchable slickness of android equivilents (do I really have to bring up the keyboard and put it away by explicit steps rather than implicit touches?) but probably it will improve and other touch ready browsers will appear. I was very thankful for no metallic fan noise as reported, and it is anyway near silent in tablet mode due to the geometry. In portrait mode it is great for reading pdf, but kind of hard to grasp the sides. The wide side is a hot air vent and the other side has the (needlessly) clickity trackpad. But I think one end of the air vent is cool, so you can 180 rotate portrait for a better experience. Due to asymmetries, you have 4 useful rotations rather than 2. Well, I will quit in case the screen wants to drop out, but will add this. Someone posted a website to compare the i7 vs i5turbo, and with a great deal of searching in the buried data I gathered the i7 gave almost 30% better speed which I wanted along with the bigger ram. Win8 seems to be needlessly awkward for touch mode, but I assume it will improve. Oh, I forgot the last thing because I'm nervous about the screen which is staying ok for some reason...

  • TP YOGA 12: Fit mSATA in M.2 slot w/adapter

I wonder if anybody has experience on fitting an mSATA SSD into the M.2 slot with an adapter, or if you could point me towards more information on the subject?
I upgraded from an X220T to the 2015 YOGA 12 and was left with an mSATA SSD. It's 256GB which is why I find it a good idea to try an accommodate it inside the YOGA instead of going through the hassle of selling it first and then ordering a compatible M.2 SSD drive.

    Hi,
My guess is this won't work, since mSATA cards are considerably wider than m.2 - never mind any signal compatibility issues.   I did find one example of an adapter, but I don't know how you'd fit it in your laptop.  Or if it works... Links below.

  • Is it possible to run a script when changing Yoga modes?

I'm currently working with a vendor of Restaurant reservation software and they have a customer that would like to implement the Yoga 13 for a chain of hotels. However, due to the fact that the software requires Silverlight, it's necessary to run a script so that they can use Google Chrome and have the software keyboard pop up automatically when a text field is entered or touched.
I can easily run the script at login and manually unload it when done, but since Lenovo already has software (Lenovo Transition) that can trigger things when the Yoga changes modes, is there some sort of developer tool or a system-wide event that can be used to automatically load and unload the script on mode change?
Please let me know, some Yoga sales could depend on this....and I love the Yoga.

Well, I'm looking for a means to activate a script through the active corners, I'm not asking any questions about the script itself, so I did not think it should be posted in the AppleScript categoriy, but sure, I'll give it a go.

Kann mir da jemand helfen woran es liegen kann?

I was having sound issues (cracking and popping) as well issues with audio on WiDi until I stopped the program Discovery.exe using Task Manager.  I removed the program Lenovo EMC Storage Connector (which is what is called) using the Control Panel.  Since then no more popping and audio issues.  No promises that is your issue but it was mine.

  • Updating Yoga 2 Pro from Win 8.1 to 10 - dialog window problem!

    Hi.
I have downloaded the image (https://www.microsoft.com/da-dk/software-download/windows10) and created a bootable USB stick with that image. And when I boot from the USB stick, it starts out fine. BUT when the window with the Install dialog appears, it's så tiny (7cm x 6cm) that it's completely impossible to see the text - let alone hitting the radio-button with the mouse! I cannot change the display in any way during the install, so I have no option than to cancel the installation. I do NOT want to install win 10 from the net, as I did that yesterday on my Lenovo t400s, and that s*cks big time. It installs on the old Win 7 and keeps the old config, and I presume that this is the reason it performing really, really bad. So in other words, I want a clean install on a clean partition.
This is not new to me and this Yoga 2 PRO! As I am writing this - on my desktop PC - and is logged on to the net on the Yoga, "Intel Update Manager" appears on the desktop and the dialog window is 7 cm wide and 6 cm in hight, at the text 1 (ONE!) mm in hight!  And it does not help to change the displays settings to 800x600, the dialog box stays the same size :-(
I have the same problem when installing Office 2007, the dialog box is 7 x 6 cm, but here the text is size 10/11 and there is no scrolling possibilities - so it is not possible to make a custom installation because I have no other way to install, than to hit Enter! And when I come to the dialog where I have to enter the key, do a copy/paste of the key from a text document and hit Enter once again!
So in other words .... HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP :-)
I have tried the search option before starting this message, but cannot find anything :-(
    Have a nice day :-)
    /Frank

have you tried WindowsKey + the "plus" key to make the window look bigger (WindowsKey + esc to escape out of the zoomed view) ?

  • Does the X1 Carbon have Intel Wireless Display? (Wi-Di, widi)

I do find it strange that Lenovo doesn't list Wi-Di anywhere in the specs or product details for the X1 series.  I also know that OEMs customise wireless cards all the time, often disabling certain features.  I've found other forum posts here that suggest that Lenovo has disabled Wi-Di on the Intel wireless card.  I've also found other articles and reviews in various places that suggest that Wi-Di does work but I haven't seen anything conclusive.
So - in short - does the X1 Carbon Core i7 20A7 series have Intel Wireless Display?

The X1 Carbon 20A7 supports WiDi! Although haven't had a chance to try it on mine.

  • Yoga issues

first i love the idea of this device but here are my issues
    1)  touchpad n keyboard stop responding - if i close and open lid, then they work.  this seems to occur when im in desktop apps, i figure it's due to the heat.  If I give it a little time then it sometimes comes back
    2)  screen rotates when it shouldn't
    3)  the harddrive and these partitions.  I'm now down to under 19 gbs of free space
    4)  no widi, eventhough the 3rd gen intel supports it
does anyone know how to enable nfc?  and lastly, does anyone know if best buy will be getting the 256gb  soon as i want to return for the bigger drive.  Otherwise, I'm going to need to return and ger a different device.

How can the device not support WiDi when Intel says this chip does support it?
See Intel link on the i5 processsor:  http://ark.intel.com/products/65707
    As for your other comments:
    1)  I have not installed any 3rd party keyboard/mouse drivers.
    2)  If you mean what mode I'm using when my keyboard/mouse stop working?  It's the laptop mode.  However, I have had issues where in stand and tablet mode the keyboard didn't disable.
    3)  Another thing to note:  I discovered yesterday that when the keyboard/mouse stop responding that instead of closing the lid that if I click the windows function key (F8) that I get back my mouse/keyboard.  However, I shouldn't have to hit F8 every 5 seconds in order to use this in laptop mode.
    4)  I'll take a look into doing step 3; but we shoudn't have to do this.  The recovery should just be built into a cloud for us to access vs taking the 128GB of space and wasting it in such a way.  As I mentioned I have less than 19GB of space left after installing Office 2013, CS6, Dragon, and a few apps. Do you know when the Yoga with 256 will be available?
FYI -- in the short time I have been composing this reply the screen flipped to portrait mode and I lost my keyboard and mouse.  This time the F8 key didn't work and I had to close the lid and reopen.  In addition, these issues started before I installed 2013, CS6 or Dragon.
If I can't get a resolution soon to these issues I will be forced to return this product as I only have a 30 day window with Best Buy.
