Widows Media Centre - Sound but no TV Reception

My PC is an HP Pavilion Elite m9346.uk-a running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 Service Pack 2.
Recently, for reasons unknown to me, Windows Media Centre with Hauppauge Win-TV HVR-1200 (Model 71 xxx, Hybrid DVB-T, No FP) stopped receiving TV pictures but continues to receive sound on each TV channel.
I use a DV B-T antenna and configure Windows Media settings on this.  It appears to download all the available channels correctly but will only receive sound.
I can play standard DVD and bluray discs without a problem but, as stated, cannot receive a TV picture, which I received on the same settings in the past.
I have tried to resolve the problem using Microsoft Fix it but without success.
Can you assist please?

I have updating and both have latest drivers
I tried uninstalling the drivers for sound and TV tuner
Still the same with unusable sounds and TV recording playback running fast (sound and vision)

  • Qosmio G20: Media Centre Receiver issue - Recovery question

As abvoe really, I usually leave my computer running overnight and yesterday I went on it to find that I had 80mb of hard drive space left (60 gig hard drive). Error messages had been popping up and a record of these was saved in the pchealth folder, under userdumps, or something like that. Anyway I deleted 58gigs worth of these userdumps but the same error message kept cropping up.
It was an error with the Media Centre Receiver, but I'm not sure entirely what this is, but it was based in the ehome folder which I think is located in the main Windows folder.
I've been into msconfig and stopped the ehhome.exe from starting at at startup but that seems to mess up the video/tv settings within Media Centre.
I recently installed codec's and a divx player to play divx movies.
I just wondered wether it would be safer to use the recovery CD and re-install windows and the software and create a restore point, then install the codecs again to see if the same problem arises, or whether anyone has had this problem and cured it.
Finally, I did actually run the recovery cd with a view to doing the above, but when the cd boots the first line in dos says something like, 'running setup for windows 98'. Surely XP is on the recovery cd and not 98?
Can anybody please confirm this for me and any answers to the above problems.
    Thanks.

    Hi Simon
Please dont panic. On recovery DVD there is definitely WXP MCE and if you see the first few words where is written Win98 that doesnt mean anything specially. If you use recovery media you will make clean OS installation.
Now to your problem: I didnt understood you right which problem you have but the fact is when you record the TV program all the night it is possible that the HDD will be full. In the best quality one hour recorded material needs about 12 GB (in my case). If it runs a few hours the HDD will be full.
It is not easy to give you any precise answers because we dont know anything about your personal settings and preinstalled software. I have also G20 and I can tell you definitely that all recorded content will not be saver under PCHEALTH folder. How it happen in your case I really dont know.
    Good luck!

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 converted FLV files have sound but no picture

    Hi,
It would be great if anyone can help - I am using the latest trial version of Flash CS4. I have used the Media Encoder to convert mpg4 files to FLV however the resultant files play with sound but no picture - just a black screen. Is there a solution to this issue?

mostly this problem is caused by lacking of
some nessery codec. Which means when reencoding your video to flv, it can not generate the video.
Does Riva FLV encoder needs any extra codec? I am using Moyea Flash Video MX 6. It do not need any extra code. It needs in the former versions but in version 6 it can convert nearly any video format now.

  • Satellite L750D - Window Media Player has sound but no pictures

I have a Toshiba Laptop Satellite L750D, Win 7 Home Permium. I don't know why Win Media player just has sound but no pictures. Please some one help fix this problem. I don't have a recovery dics. Where can I down load it? I would very much appeciate your help. Hien

Your issue is likely, but not necessarily a corrupted or missing codec since you haven't actually confirmed whether your problem is with just one disc or all discs nor if they ever worked on this system before.
Installing VLC is a good idea, but it's a considerate application and won't tamper or try to repair a busted codec and will more often avoids tampering or accidentally repairing any detected whether it's already working or likely broken like yours. That's one of the reasons VLc is so highly recommended such as they way it was repeatedly suggested to you.
A question to ask if your problem is being caused by a few discs, are they custom burned or commercially pressed boutique films since most mainstream DVD's use the same MPEG-2 codec for video and audio and failed video but working audio is usually a clue about a split format disc that has simpler audio streams but obscure video formats that can result in an issue just like yours.
In either case and if none of that is of interest, I can relate and suggest you keep any installed VLc's and download KLite because it is nothing but varying degrees of CODEC's including obscure ones and is fairly aggressive in detecting and seamlessly repairing corrupted codecs while offering more configuration options than most people want and more than many commercial video applications offer.
Visit http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm and choose the "Mega" or 64Bit package but 64bit systems can successfully backport the 32bit set if you feel its necessary to.
You can also potentially skip the KLite process by diagnosing your codecs with Nirsofts InstalledCodec tool, a single file executable no install / no reboot but I don't get the impression you're prepared to really do much at that level and that's fine but it might be needless effort in your case.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html
But something you definitely need to stop and wonder about is what happened to crush your codec since they don't normally suffer damage until some insidious piece of badware like your favorite iLivid and mine gets into your computer to raise holy hell forever. If that could possibly be what happened to you, the circumstances of how you managed to pick it up and anything else are things you can keep to yourself but consider it a spyware affliction and one I don't make lightly and is something I rarely suggest since it is the overused excuse at the Microsoft forums to blame everything on spyware instead of poorly written OS code.

  • I've installed ubuntu 11.04 on my hp pavillion media centre pc. No sound. Why

I,m dual booting my hp pavillion media centre pc withh ubuntu 11.04 and xp media centre edition. I can't get sound in ubuntu even though it correctly identifies the Creative audigy soundcard. Has anyone found a solution tothis problem.

I would make sure that both Media Player and Media Center are up-to-date and download and install the latest VLC Media Player. I would also download and install either Vista Codec Package (works with XP too) or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

  • I Have an Apple iphone 4.  It will import my photos but when plugged into windows media centre it says connect a device even when the phone is connected.  Why is this?

I have an Apple iphone 4.   It will import my photos but when I am in Windows Media Centre and want to sync music   it asks me to Connect a Device when my phone is already connected.    I have been able to do this in the past but for some reason this fault has just begun   Do you know the reason for this?

Are you certain that it is locked to Orange?
Regardless, Apple does not lock devices, carriers do.
If the carrier refuses to unlock the device there is nothing that can be done.

  • Tried following instructions but cant install media centre why?

After following instructions from media centre,eg. register with net passport site and windows messenger Istill can,t download this. I have the media centre icon in my all programs box butwhen I try to burn n
my music it disallows tells me to install media player as it is not properly installed. this is a pre owned p.c. and I am a complete novice. Can you help and oblige please?

I assume you are using a standard Coax areal lead to connect to your sky box? If so you need to find out what channel the sky is comning in on. In order to do this, use the Qomsio player to search the channels and when it finds the SKy signal it will tell you what channel it is transmitted on . Something like Channel 36. Ok, now you have this information, boot the machine and go into Mediacenter. You need to Manually add this channel. As Media center works by using the EPG, any channels such as the skyinput needs to be added.
So from the main menu, go to
settings > TV > Guide > Add missing Channels > Add Channel
Now enter the name of the channel you want displayed when viewing. IE SKY.
Now you have to enter the channel number IE 36 that you got from the Qosmio engine. This will now be place on the next available channel. IE 6/7/8 etc. All you do now is go to the channel and it will display the Sky input.
    Hope this helps

  • Mini as Media Centre and Express to Distirbute

    Hi
I am planning on using my mac mini to act as a media centre, connecting video to a patch panel to send movies etc to tv around the house and airport express for sound.
I intend to house all this in the understairs cupboard with speakers mounted in the ceiling with all the cables (audio and video) running back under the stairs to the amps / patch panel.
My thought is that I can use an aiport express & amp for each room, all housed under the stairs and controlled from my iphone. Does this sound like a reasonable idea to anyone or a waste of time and money and I should look at Sonos or something else? Watching independent video in each room I don't care about but independent music I do.
Is there a limit on the number of Airport Express that will operate in 1 place without interference?
I am looking to use about 6-7 expresses so I can independently control sound in each room. I am assuming each express can stream audio independently, i.e. each room could have a different song playing simultaneously.
    Your thoughts please...
    Thanks

I am looking to use about 6-7 expresses so I can independently control sound in each room. I am assuming each express can stream audio independently, i.e. each room could have a different song playing simultaneously.
In addition to William's comments, although you could have a near unlimited number of AirPort Express Base Stations (AX) they would have to operate on one of three non-overlapping channels so as that they don't interfere with each other. In addition, the practical limit of AXs for streaming is around 4-5 units.
William is absolutely correct in that you cannot stream more than one audio source to multiple AXs; however, you are not limited to just audio from iTunes. Using a third-party application, like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil, you can stream for a number of audio sources outside of iTunes. However, even Airfoil cannot stream different audio tracks to different AXs.
The reason for all of this is that the iTunes relies on AirTunes to do the streaming. AirTunes, in turn, must first "find" and establish communications with an AirPort speaker (an AX, Apple TV, or using software a number of other devices), before it can stream. If iTunes was capable of playing multiple tracks simultaneously, then it may be possible in the future for it to send distinct streams to separate AirPort speakers.

  • MAC OS X V10.7 Lion Killed My Media Centre....

Upgraded my Mac Mini I use as a media centre to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and no Front Row??? What the ?????! What's the point of having a Mac Mini to use as a media centre with no more Front Row??? I don't know what Apple were thinking, or weren't thinking.... I don't even know why I bothered upgrading to Lion.
I purchase movies through iTunes to watch using Front Row... no front row, no more movie purchases. I may as well just go to sanity and buy it on DVD, and use my DVD player. I was really looking forward to the Lion upgrade too............ back to Snow Leopard...

I use Diamond BVU195 USB-to-DisplayLink adaptors. Just updated mid-2009 13" mbp (a model that appears on the list in Peter Duke's post) to MLion 10.8.2 from SL.  Big mistake. Never a problem with SL, but Mountain Lion has been quite underwhelming.
Regarding the BVU195, there is flickering/pulsating when I open Safari Top Sites or open some sites such as Hotpads.com.  In Hotpads, everything seems fine until I move the mouse over a "house", an action that causes the map portion of the window to go nuts.
I have WASTED SEVERAL HOURS trying to get this fixed, trying 3 different DL drivers (1.8 seems to work the best), all the while having flashbacks of past Microsoft Windows' woes.  I have had my laptop lock up (requiring on/off button shutdown) more often in the past 3 days than the previous 3 years. And to think that this problem has been ongoing for over a year - unconscionable! on the part of Apple.  Why Apple and not DL?  I can open the same sites with no problem when using Firefox (my new default browser.)
Speaking of flashbacks, I can remember a time 20 or so years ago when I bought my first Compaq computer and was in heaven. I had a similar estatic feeling when I moved over to Apple 3 years ago.  The burden of endless angst had been lifted, or so I thought.  Sure, when I bought the Compaq, I spent twice as much for the "same" specs (sound familiar?) and had limited aftermarket upgrade options due to its proprietary build (sound familiar?) but it worked almost flawlessly (familiar?) and offered phenominal support, second to none (familiar?).  I never regretted paying out the extra money - the experience was well worth it.  But now Compaq, once a leader in quality and innovation, is now all but a forgotten joke.  I truly hope Apple isn't headed down the same path of putting out garbage and then ignoring the problems that follow.  A year and still not addressed - unconscionable!

  • Playing media centre files on N95

    Hello
I am new to this forum as I have only just purchased the Nokia N95.
So far I am enjoying the experience but the only frustration that I have found relates to the video playback. One of the reasons for getting it was to watch programmes that I had recorded on my media centre PC on my comute to and from work. I was told by the shop I could do this!
I have installed the nokia software out of the box but note that this does not allow "*.DVR-ms" files to be dragged to the nokia media player playlist so that I can use the convert button to transfer them to the phone.
After a lot of research on the net I downloaded SUPER which contains too many options for my liking especially as video compession/conversion is new to me, having said that it worked (eventually) but in the resultant 3gp clip the sound and video were out of sync.
Does anyone know of any software (free if poss) that converts DVR-ms files to 3gp/mp4 so that it will play on the N95? It wouldn't need to do much more than that. Most of the other programs available don't seem to support the DVR-MS format.
    Thanks very much in anticipation.

SUPER available from http://www.erightsoft.com might be able to convert the videos but you will have to see how your mileage goes with the media centre format videos as they differ from standard MPEG video slightly.
The settings you need to use for Super to get optimal video versus not too big file size are as follows...
For animation and cartoons (The simpsons, Family Guy, etc)...
    Output container: MP4
    Output video codec: H.264/AVC
    Output audio codec: AAC
    Video scale size: 320x240
Video Aspect: Keep the original aspect the video is in
    Video Frames per second: 23.98
    Video Bitrate: 128kbps
    Audio sampling frequency: 48000
    Audio Channels: 2
    Audio Bitrate: 64kbps
There is no need to go any lower than this with animation as the quality degradation isn't worth the space savings.
For anything else outside of animation (Movies, TV, etc)...
    Output container: MP4
    Output video codec: H.264/AVC
    Output audio codec: AAC
    Video scale size: 320x240
Video Aspect: Keep the original aspect the video is in
    Video Frames per second: 25
    Video Bitrate: 240kbps
    Audio sampling frequency: 48000
    Audio Channels: 2
    Audio Bitrate: 64kbps
If your really tight on space, feel free to lower the video bitrate a bit further down but you will notice a real difference in picture quality if you go lower than 192kbps. Don't mess with the frames unless you like your picture jerky!
Feel free to increase the video scale size to 640x480 if you wish to use the TV out cables with the N95 but do not raise any of the other settings beyond these limits otherwise the memory and processor on the N95 begin to get taxed and can result in out of sync sound/video.

  • "learn remote" from apple TV - mac mini as media centre

I have bought a mini to use as a media centre. Both front row, and Plex, can be driven very well from my six button "apple remote". However I would really like to drive front row and Plex from the single remote that came with my Loewe TV, blue-ray player, and sound system.
Appletv can do this - there is a "learn remote" utility that allows you to configure IR commands from your TV remote to behave like the 6 (7) buttons on the apple remote. Since AppleTV is like a cut down Mac, I expected to be able to do the same on the Mini. But I cannot find the utility anywhere.
Anybody know if this appletv application is available on the mini? or if the same effect can be achieved another way. I dont want to buy a universal remote, since the single Loewe remote already drives everything else. Nor do I want to pay extra for the programable remote that Loewe sell. The "learn remote" utility would be absolutely perfect.

I know its been 17 months since anyone replied to your post, but I stumbled upon your request, because I had the same issue. However, I can faithfully say that I solved this same problem, because I inadvertendly programmed my MX-980 remote to control my Apple TV and Mac Mini at the same time and didn't realize until much later what was happening. I use my Mac Mini (for the purpose of using PLEX) and my Apple TV for other purposes. Here's a discussion I had over at remotecontrol.com about it.
The solution for you is have two Apple remotes. You can buy an extra apple remote at a good price over at Amazon.
Out of box, the apple remote is designed to pair with your Mac and Apple TV as long as pairing is enabled on those machines by default. However, it's the consumer's responsibility to physically pair that remote with the machine you want to control so it can't control any other machine. That's the trick you were missing...
So, if you have an Apple TV and Mac Mini next to each other -- a single Apple Remote will control BOTH machines at the same time out of box. This is not the intended result as you have indicated. Therefore you need two apple remotes.
Mac Mini: Once you have two apple remotes, go to your Mac Mini (OSX 10.9) and select under the Apple menu > Preferences > Security > General > Click unlock (bottom left corner) first > sign in > Then click Advanced... to see the Pairing process. If you click advanced *before* you click unlock icon, the pairing menu will be missing.
Note: You can also install free CandleAir preference for your Mac which is a slick interface for configuring apple remotes faster and easier IMHO. http://www.iospirit.com/labs/candelair/
Apple TV: Now take your second Apple Remote, go to Apple TV > Preferences > General > Remote and follow the on screen instructions to properly pair your remote control.
    This should solve your problem.

  • Widows Media Center (msn video player) 'Video Error' box

    Hi
I believe this is a know problem, which is needs an updated to fix the software / player. Is there one on the way?
When I try to play an internet video in Widows Media Center (msn video player) I get 'Video Error' box (blue box in right hand corner) saying 'There was a problem accessing this video. Try viewing a different one'. The video does play, but with the error message over it. When you click the okay option in the blue box the video stops playing. This happens on every video I select.
I've reinstalled Windows Media Center, run all updates and updated flash. Knowhow.com advise that this is a known problem with no solution, and needs an update to fix it. Can you find out when there will be a fix?
Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1
    HP Touchsmart 520-1030uk
    Intel Core i3-2120 CPU 3.30GHz

    Hi,
According to your description, it probably there’s a conflict between how the Windows 8 HDMI drivers handle 7.1 and how Media Center handles sound.
You can check the Windows Update, if there is any updates relate with HDMI Audio Drivers, you can install it, then this problem will began.
Also you can go to ASRock official site to download the latest HDMI driver for test.
If still there is no use, you may need to contact your machine manufacture for further assistance.
In addition, because this problem relate with WMC, I would recommend you access the site below to ask the question for further help.

  • Why can't I update my Audigy 2 ZS? Windows Media Centre Editi

The message subject says it all. I'm not able to update from the 2003 drivers that are included on my CD. The 2006 XP drivers did not work with my Windows (XP) "Media Centre" edition. This is causing problems with a lot of new games I'm trying to enjoy.
Where do I go from here?
Seriously, If I had known that I would have to use dated audio drivers I wouldn't have paid $20 of my hard earned money for this card...

Have you tryed removing the drivers within device manager?
Right click on My Computer > properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound?Video?Game Controllers?> Creative Audigy 2 ZS (thats a guess at the driver name).
just right click and uninstall then restart your PC (remember to let it do its hardware check first and it shouldn't reconise the software)?and install the new driver. Just incase of conflicts
If it still does it the remove all the Creative software Inlcuding Programs like THX, Audio Console, Drivers etc.. Media Source Should be OK to leave in but i would uninstall it anyway just incase.
Then install the new driver FIRST!?And do a Custom install on the Main CD but incheck the drivers.
If this doesn't help then it gets more complicated Regedit ETC... But thats your choice to play with registry :S

  • SB Audigy 2 + Media Centre Edition 2

    Hi
I recently purchased a SB Audigy 2 Card for my Media Centre 2005 machine.
I installed the drivers that came on the CD but and all works fine (In theory). All 5. Channels work but now my games crash so I have tried updating the drivers and software with the Windows XP one but it says they are incompatible with my Windows although it is the Xp drivers I initially installed. All of the games including GTA SA worked fine on my onboard Realtek AC97 drivers.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

I recommend you to use one of these DVD players: PowerDVD (http://www.gocyberlink.com/) or WinDVD (http://www.intervideo.com/). There are a lot of glitches, bugs and problems with WMP DVD playback so it's not advised to use it for watching DVDs.
If you choose to use one of the specified DVD players you'll have to select Use SPDIF in Audio options of the player. Also, make sure you've got the latest drivers for the sound card.
    Good luck.
