  • SUDO is causing entries in the console log. A Virus?

    Hello,
    I was looking through my OSX installation and I found this mysterious file placed in my Application Support Folder in my library:
    username/library/application support/7103555
    It is named "7103555" and it is a Unix Executable File (according to "Get Info")
    I am worried it might be a virus. I don't recall putting it there. The only time I used terminal so far was to open a Profile Manager for Mozilla Thunderbird. I see that it mentions PrinterNotification and I do recall installing an HP printer driver. Is that where it might have come from. Is this normal? May I delete it? Should I reset something back in console? I am not sure what to do here.
    Should I be concerned?
    Thank you for any advice.
    This is what it looks like when I open it:
    cd /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PrinterNotifications.bundle/Contents/MacOS
    # SUDO is causing entries in the console log making me believe
    # that it's not getting run correctly. I am removing SUDO from the
    # command lines.
    #sudo ./makequeues -u
    #sudo ./makequeues -r
    ./makequeues -u;./makequeues -r&
    exit 0

    Mulder,
    <<sarcasm mode on>>
    You got me there: I can't even spot a simple shell script and figure out what it does and why. Nor could I explain it in plain 'Merican English to poor ol' rainforest. Nope, I must have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.
    <<sarcasm mode off>>
    HINT: This is well within my area of expertise.
    To quote one of your compadres, who "borrowed" it from answers.com:
    "computer virus n. A computer program that is designed to replicate itself by copying itself into the other programs stored in a computer. It may be benign or have a negative effect, such as causing a program to operate incorrectly or corrupting a computer's memory."
    A little further on in the same page:
    "Virus
    Software used to infect a computer. After the virus code is written, it is buried within an existing program. Once that program is executed, the virus code is activated and attaches copies of itself to other programs in the system. Infected programs copy the virus to other programs."
    and
    "Viruses Must Be Run to Do Damage
    A virus is not inserted into data. It is a self-contained program or code that attaches itself to an existing application in a manner that causes it to be executed when the application is run."
    On to Leap-A, from the description in Macworld (edited for brevity and clarity):
    "...[W]hen you try to launch the newly-infected application, an apparent bug ... in the code prevents it [the application] from launching. But, ... a lot just happened:
    A Spotlight search for the most-recently-used user-owned applications is run, and ... up to four of those programs at a time are infected...
    The above process will repeat each time you try to launch an infected application."
    The process described above fully conforms to the definition. Therefore, your, uh, "1337" assertion is wrong: Leap-A IS a virus.
    -Wayne
    PS I'll even make a more radical assertion: The first OS X viruses were written in 1983 by Fred Cohen. My source? Professor Cohen (after all, he invented the computer virus), who told me, "the first viruses written for the original experiments run on current Mac OSX systems without even a recompilation."

  • Console Logs, what they are and what the messages mean

    I wonder if there is a resource somewhere that describes each of the logs in Console and what they and the messages in them mean. Some of them are self-explanatoty, others are not.
    Thanks

    You only have two choices... live with it or take it in to Apple and see if they'll replace it under warranty.
    If you decide to take it in to Apple, make an appointment online at the Genius Bar... http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Constant Console logs from ardtaskmonitor

    Every 10 seconds I'm getting entries in the Console log for ardtaskmonitor reading:
    10/15/09 10:06:28 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[167] (ardtaskmonitor[1490]) >posix_spawn("/Users/admin/Library/Application Support/Remote Desktop >Assistant/TaskMonitorAgent", ...): No such file or directory
    10/15/09 10:06:28 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[167] (ardtaskmonitor[1490]) Exited >with exit code: 1
    10/15/09 10:06:28 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[167] (ardtaskmonitor) Throttling >respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    Anyone know what these mean and to fix if necessary? There is no remote task server, and the get entered into the Console log regardless of whether or not the ARD Admin app is runing.

    Michael how about using Apple System log(ASL) facility for my requirement?
    Can you help me out in understanding ASL ?

  • Strange time string in console log

    Every time entry in the console log's time field includes the phrase "this is med". What the heck does this mean? Google searches on this phrase turn up zilch. Same on discussions. An example:
    7/25/09 10:12 pm this is med /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[1521] Starting standard backup
    7/25/09 10:12 pm this is med /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[1521] Backing up to: /Volumes/Backup/Backups.backupdb
    7/25/09 10:12 pm this is med /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[1521] No pre-backup thinning needed: 342.6 MB requested (including padding), 519.68 GB available
    Ideas?

    forgetcolor wrote:
    The string for computer name is "Ben's Desktop".
    Then that's a strange one. The string "this is med" must be squirreled away somewhere in the depths of the Mac OS X Unix underpinnings. Someone with more experience with that will have to continue this discussion.

  • Strange Entries in System and Console Logs

    I have some strange entries in my system and console logs. In the system log, I regularly see these entries:
    Feb 24 21:07:29 joseph-youngs-computer /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: owner of process not logged in on console - exiting.
    Feb 24 21:20:32 joseph-youngs-computer kernel[0]: (82: coreservicesd)tfp: failed on 0:
    In my console log, I regularly find these entries:
    2006-02-25 09:23:24 -0600
    2006-02-24 21:07:30.530 loginwindow[803] FSResolveAliasWithMountFlags returned err = -43
    On occasion, I find something like this in my console log:
    Assert failed: /Users/dave/dev/flash/player/FlashPlayer/platform/mac/plugins/../../../core/spl ay.cpp:7105
    I admit to being something of a novice with the Mac, so I am not sure what to make of these entries, though I never noticed anything like this on my eMac, or on my prior iMac. Also, on the entry above, there are no users named dave on my Mac.
    Has anyone else noticed this, and can anyone shed any light on what these messages mean?

    Resolved with a clean install.

  • What values in EBM Header maps to error notification entry in AIA console

    Hi Guys,
    Can any one tell me which values of EBM Header maps to error notification entry in AIA console for sending notification to user created ?
    What elements in EBM Header maps to this fields *(SYSTEM CODE, ERROR CODE, SERVICE NAME, and PROCESS_NAME)* in Error notification in AIA Console for sending notification to a particular user other than AIAIntegrationAdmin?

    Hi Gerhard,
    I tried to send notification using feature available in AIA FP whenever remote and binding fault happened to user SysAdmin creatred in Admin console under user & groups.
    I have done the below configuration
    1. Made entry in AIA console under error notification (Error code : blank service name: SampleBpel system code : sys process name: SampleBpel Role: SysAdmin FYIRole: SysAdmin).
    2. configured email driver properties and work flow notification properties.
    3. made entry in http://localhost:7001/sdpmessaging/userprefs-ui/ with user logged in SysAdmin and entered mail-id.
    4. Populated EBM Header with the below values
    <part name="AIAFault">
    <Fault>
    <EBMReference>
    <BusinessScopeReference>
    <InstanceID>SampleBpel</InstanceID>
    </BusinessScopeReference>

    </part>
    5.Included fault-policies and fault-bindings.xml in project.
    when testing the project with negative scenario generates the remote fault. I am able to see fault data i.e EBM Header in AIAReadJMSNotificationProcess.
    But  it is unable to send notification for the user created (SysAdmin).
    It is showing the default user values

    Can you provide solution how can i send notification to user created (SysAdmin)?

  • Security (Console log entries)

    The following entries appear repeatedly every few seconds in my Console log:
    10/29/07 12:24:56 PM mDNSResponder[16] handleLNTGetExternalAddressResponse: Router returned bad address
    10/29/07 12:24:56 PM mDNSResponder[16] Error getting external address 3
    My D-Link router is performing properly and I have no problems with the network connections between my two computers or my Internet connections.
    I found four technical documents that reference mDNSResponder issues but they pertain mostly to Apple Security issues and do not suggest what might be causing the repetitive log error entries.
    Any suggestions other than to just forget that I ever saw these log entries?

    I did a state dump for mDNSResponder (sudo killall -INFO mDNSResponder) both before and after killing and restarting the process (sudo killall -KILL mDNSResponder). Then offender appears to be in this area:
    Oct 30 19:59:15 MaxG5 Unknown23: NAT Traversals
    Oct 30 19:59:15 MaxG5 Unknown23: 0080A21C UDP Int 4500 Ext 0 Err 0 Retry 822 Interval 900 Expire 0
    Oct 30 20:02:01 MaxG5 Unknown355: NAT Traversals
    Oct 30 20:02:01 MaxG5 Unknown355: <None>
    Note the number of retries and the expire value.
    After killing and having the process restart itself, the messages in the log go away. The NAT Traversals values in the mDNSResponse state appear to be gone as well.

  • Meaning of Console Log Entry? (and how to make it stop?)

    The following occurs regularly in my console.log, and I'm wondering if anyone can point me to what might be causeing it:
    Exception caught in COTTCPListener::HandleAccept(), calling OTSndDisconnect
    It seems like something is trying to call an Open Transport routine to shut something down, but I don't have a clue what it would be.
    This is on a 17" Intel iMac under 10.4.10

    I was browsing the log files on my new iMac and see many lines like the following in the console.log file:

    I don't know what the Syndication Agent does, though perhaps it is trying to synchronize clocks?

    Of course, you are right, baltwo...t'was late and I took the easy way out. thanks for the "gentle reminder" to do my homework first.
    I'll now look through the hits and see if I have a problem or not.
    Cheers,
    Walt

  • Repeating Console.log Entry?

    The following occurs regularly in my console.log, and I'm wondering if anyone can point me to what might be causeing it:
    Exception caught in COTTCPListener::HandleAccept(), calling OTSndDisconnect
    It seems like something is trying to call an Open Transport routine to shut something down, but I don't have a clue what it would be.
    This is on a 17" Intel iMac under 10.4.9
    17" Intel iMac, iBook G4, eMac, PB 1400, Power Curve 120, etc.   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Thanks.
    While Google didn't directly help, as I read various posts I realized checking "receive faxes on this computer" in System Preferences>Print & Fax panel was creating the repetitive message. Unchecking it stopped the message in the System Log.

  • What happened to the console logs in netweaver?

    Our team just upgraded to using NetWeaver version of the portal and the team that set the server up are saying console logs no longer exist?
    Why would SAP get rid of System.out?
    Is there a configuration change the team that set the server up needs to make to have it start logging standard out?
    Stephen

    Hi,
    Open VIsualAdministrator (\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\admin\go.bat)
    2.Go to services->LogConfigurator
    Select "Locations" tab
    3. Select "ROOTLOCATION" ->System ->out and set the serverity to ALL
    Now you can see Syste,.out under C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log\defaultTrace.0.trc
