Wierd Audio Behavior suddenly, stereo tracks now take up 2 mono tracks?????

So I start a new file, or open an existing file and all my tracks that have setero information all of a sudden take up 2 channels on the mixer, so if the audio is on track 1, meters for track 1 and 2 move. If I make track 1 a stereo track, track 2 disappears and says "Controlled by Stereo object "track 1-2""....now all my routing is messed up as this effects busses and everything...what gives? Is there something in my preferences that got changed? HELP!!!!!!!!

What the heck, tbird? Are you able to bend the parameters of time now, too? There was no post here when I replied with mine. Please, do share your secrets!

  • Can I use pan control in stereo track and balance control in mono track ?

it seems that in logic I can only use pan control in mono track and balance control in stereo track .

This is a flaw from the first days of Logic.
There is a "helper" plug in called "direction ....." - I can't remember the full name. Anyway, it gives you more control over stereo tracks. You can narrow the width (left - right) and pan accordingly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing 2 Mono Tracks back to 1 Stereo Track on timeline, or source monitor?

I was working in Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and I switched Audio on a clip to 2 Mono Tracks instead of its original 1 stereo track. I brought it in the Source Monitor and then on the timeline.
I then realized later on that I wanted to switch the audio back to 1 Stereo Track instead of the 2 Mono tracks.
I could not figure out a way to do this.
Is it possile to do this? If so. how?
    Thanks in advance?

Joe has given you a good answer, but exactly why do you want to switch the two mono Tracks back to Stereo?
If one is not doing certain things, then they will be Mixed-down to stereo on Export. However, certain editin operations WILL be easier with both back in stereo, if you are doing those.
    Good luck,

  • Stereo to 2 mono tracks conversion problem

The problem I'm running into is that once i've split the stereo track into 2 mono tracks, and bring the one mono track back into logic express to use, it still recognizes plays as though it's a stereo track.
The stereo track that i'm using basically has the music on the left side and a metronome on the right side so we can use it for backtracks through an ipod in a live setting.
I've also ran into a similar problem after i edited some audio tracks I was using in a sample, after i edited it and brought it back into the proram, it didn't want to recognize the origional track that i had...
has anyone else ran into this or knows what i'm doing wrong?

Is this possible in iMovie 9?
    Yes, it is.
In iMovie choose Share>Export to QuckTime. Choose Export: Sound to AIFF then click the Options button.
From the Channels dropdown menu select Mono. Click OK and then save the file to the Desktop.
Detach and delete the original Project and drag in the newly created file and place it on the video in the timeline so it imports as a connected clip and not just in the background.

  • From 2 mono tracks to 1 stereo track

I have 1 video clip and 2 conected audio tracks.
How can i create 1 stereo track from the 2 splitted mono tracks?

No. One work around would be to create a stereo sub mix channel, this would at least give you a single fader but it won't help you when editing. You could try grouping the video and two audio, then they should be easier to select.

  • Possible to Join Two Mono Tracks to Stereo, Or Change Panning of a Stereo?

In the new Garage Band 11, is it possible to Join Two Mono Tracks to Stereo, or Change the Panning of a Stereo track, or split a stereo track into two mono files?
Sometimes it would be convenient when I have a lot of tracks to combine two mono tracks into one stereo track to eliminate an additional track.
Also, I find that I often want to change the panning of a stereo track to either make it wider, or merge the two channels, even reverse L&R. If no way to change the panning of a stereo track can a stereo track be split into two mono tracks to be panned differently?

only by exporting the two tracks
or Change the Panning of a Stereo track
you can pan a stereo track in every version of GB with the pan knob
or split a stereo track into two mono files?
    indirectly:

that's different. no, you'd have to split the track into two mono files as described above.
    even reverse L&R.

  • Audio Imports a Single Mono Track instead of Stereo

I am transferring mini-DV footage into a project that I was previously working on with a different camera. The audio used to import in Stereo Pairs, now it is just a single Mono track.
I don't think I changed any settings. I looked in the Clip Settings on the Capture window but I don't see an audio toggle. I am using FCP 5.0.
What should I do differently when importing and how can I get the previous single Mono imports into Stereo Pairs?
    Thanks,
    Hagen

If you have only one single mono audio track then duplicate it (select audio track then hold down SHIFT and OPTION/ALT key simultaneously and drag the mono audio clip down to the audio track below, it will give you a duplicate) after doing that select and double click the duplicated mono track and in the viewer Pan that hard right (1). Finally select both audio tracks and hit Option+L. You now have stereo pair.

  • Stereo audio tracks missing - have mono track only

After recently downloading DV footage, I find that there is only a "mono" channel shown on the timeline. Several subsequent "test" takes and downloads continue to produce only the mono channel. Imported "aiff" files appear in timeline with stereo tracks, but material from my DV camera continues to only contain a single mono track. (All settings on camera have been checked and re-checked and appear OK)
Is there some setting in FCE HD that needs to be re-set? If so, where is it??
    Any input/advice will be appreciated.

"Mayday, Mayday" ! I've had my camcorder bench-checked for the stereo audio signals (it's operating fine), replaced the firewire cable between the camcorder and the iMac, and reloaded FCE HD. Test clips still show only a "mono" channel for audio - no stereo audio. Test clips made with a different camcorder produced the same results (mono channel only)
After downloading yet another test clip, the FCE HD software responds with the following message:
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape"
Is this why I am only seeing one (mono) audio channel ? Can anyone tell me what this means and how I should fix it ?

  • I want to stream all audio to my stereo via AirPort. Right now audio only streams with iTunes, not when I'm online (YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify). What must I do? Thanks! 2011 macbook pro 10.6.8

Thanks, Bob. I've seen this suggested before. However, I'm at a friend's place (cat-sitting). He owns an older MacBook (almost positive) and he streams audio without Airfoil. All he uses is AirPort Express. He told me to simply click alt-option and the volume icon and a menu drops down, and I select "AirPort Express". But it never appears. All the menu offers is this:
    "AirPort Express" isn't an option.
Why is that? Is there something fundamental I'm not doing?

  • HDV audio is 2 mono tracks instead of stereo

When capturing my HDV video from my HDR-HC1 cam the audio is being captured as two mono tracks instead of a 2-channel stereo track. Does anyone know how to fix this and get the stereo?

    Just out of curiosity... Why?<<</div>
Why do I want two mono channels? Why do you want a stereo pair?
In my case, I usually have different mics connected to the two inputs on my camera. One may be a wireless and the other the on-camera mic, or another wireless. Hearing these in stereo wouldn't be natural at all, so why would I go to the trouble of capturing stereo only to have to pan them to center inside FCP? Even if I'm just using the on-camera mic (Sennheiser ME-64 or ME-66), it's a mono source so there's still no reason to convert it to stereo.
As another example, if I'm shooting a talking head, I'll have the person miced going to one channel. I usually won't even capture the other channel as its useless to me for editing purposes.
On the occasion I do want stereo, it's usually only when I'm taking a feed from my audio mixer where I may be mixing 6 or 8 or 10 mics. In those cases, I'll do the panning on the mixer and most likely WILL capture as stereo in FCP.

  • Mono track on boom mike - how to convert to stereo

I actually have another sound question: When we where shooting we the two audio channels as follows: one came from the camera mic and one from a boom mic.
Now I think I only want to use the sound from the boom mic. So what I have then is one mono track of live sound.
What do I do with this? How do I convert it into stereo. The cameraman who shot the stuff for me told me "you just copy the track" - I can do this of course but then I have essentially two mono track as a stereo track. Is that o.k.?

If you are worried that your mono track will sound too "flat," or won't locate properly in a stereo field filled with other sound elements, then here's a tip for you. I use this for voiceovers and on-camera speech when I have wild sound, music, or other sound events happening underneath in the mix.
Add a very small and subtle amount of stereo reverb to the mono V/O or speech track.
Use a short delay or "small room" setting on the reverb. Of course, "season to taste" is the rule for the length of delay with regard to blending the reverb into the rest of the audio. But usually for speech, a short delay works best in my experience.
My method is to add just enough for the reverb to be perceivable, and then dial it back a little.
This will really help place that sound source in a "hard center" position in the stereo field.
Also, if you are mixing speech, dial in about 1 to 2 db boost of 1000hz EQ to aid in speech intelligibility. Again, "season to taste."
    Good luck.

  • Replacing stereo mix with original mono tracks in edited program

    Hi there,
I've edited a 2 minute program with the stereo mixdown of 6 lapel mics on 6 different speakers. I'm now finishing the project and am wanting to isolate each speaker's audio, but can't seem to figure out how to do this.  Using the Replace edit function loses my ins and outs.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

You may enjoy the new Source ch mapping in CS3.
IF you clip is stereo with one voice in the lft and another voice in the right ch, BEFORE importing it change you preferences thusly:
Edit > Preferences > Audio Set Source CH mapping to Mono.
    Import your clip.
Drag it to the timeline and you will see it will be two linked mono tracks.
    That is a global method.
To do an individual audio clip:
Import it and before you put it on the timeline; select it in the bin and choose Clip > Audio Options > Source Ch Mapping and set it to Mono. This will accomplish the same thing, except for a single clip.
Re your 2nd question; If you do the above you can use the audio mixer to mix the voices.
I often shoot with a wireless in 1 ch and a shotgun in the other. So these options are quite handy.

  • Stereo to mono track? Elements 9

Non-Linear softwares like Avid import all sound in mono track form. Adobe doens't, for some reason. Instead it's all in stereo form. I need someone to explain how to change the stereo track into two separate mono tracks. I know this action is possible in Premier Pro via a setting. Elements is not clear on this matter.
I did record a wireless mic, and a camera mic simultaenously at times. I need this sound in mono track form to avoid ambient noise. Otherwise when you lower the track volume it affects both.

PrPro makes splitting a 2-channel stream easy, but as Steve points out, PrE does not. The assumption is that all 2-channel streams will be staying in that format.
Now, when I need to split 2-channel (or 6-channel) source material, I just use Adobe Audition. The great freeware program, Audacity, can also split the audio stream, but I cannot step you though that process, as I use Audition, where necessary.
    Good luck,

  • I can't change my audio channels to stereo

When I started using Premiere (not that long ago) everything was working fine. When I dragged a clip in, the video went to Video track 1 and the audio to audio track 1. Now, the video goes to track 1 and the audio to track 5. Tracks 1-4 are all mono and I can't find a single way to change them back. My audio clips are all stereo, and I would prefer to keep them that way. It's really hard to keep track of what's going on editing if I have all these empty tracks that I can't use. Does anyone know how to change them back from mono to stereo?

I've tried everything on various forums: SMC reset, PRAM reset, safe mode, another useraccount but nothing works! Is there anyone who encounters the same problem??

I thought Apple's idea was be there for creative minds, to support these people with excellent gear. As from now i really doubt this.
