  • MacBook Pro wakes up when unplugging usb from cinema display

    Hi all,
I have a 30" cinema display at work and a 23" at home which I use with my macbook pro. At work, I use a usb keyboard which stays plugged into the monitor. At home, I have a wireless keyboard and a usb printer plugged into the monitor. Thus in both cases, I plug the usb cable from the display into my laptop. I typically leave the MBP open so as to have the main display and the cinema display at the same time. When I leave home or work, I close to MBP to put it to sleep. However, upon unplugging the display and especially its usb cable, the laptop invariably wakes up, which is annoying.
I tried leaving the MPB closed and putting it to sleep with the display's on/off button. Same behavior.
Is there a setting to prevent usb 'signals' from waking up the computer? Should I proceed differently?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I know this question is answered, but I didn't want to create another thread to discuss the same topic.
I think this issue is rooted in the Cinema Display being attached to port 3 of it's own internal hub. This is to allow the display dimming, the power button that controls the sleep/wake of the laptop, etc. I just got my 30" cinema display a week or two ago, and before that was using an HP IPS LCD panel (24") that also had an integrated USB hub. I have the same devices attached too --USB hard drive for time machine, and keyboard (mighty mouse plugged in to keyboard). When unplugging the cable to the HP monitor's hub, the macbook would not wake up. Just with the Apple display.
The problem with the hack/bandaid/workaround suggested is that to unplug the USB cable before sleeping the laptop, I need to open disk utility and eject the external drive first, else the system will complain. When the laptop goes to sleep, it runs a script (that I wrote) to eject the drive before sleeping, thus no error messages.
Apple really needs to work on making "docking" work right. Until then, I'm using a Belkin USB hub which doesn't wake up the mac when unplugging it.

  • When updating iPod from iTunes receive message that some of the photos cannot be displayed in iPod touch

when syncing iPod Touch from iTunes receive message that some of the photos cannot be displayed in iPod touch

What are the detail? file size?
Since you can't create them in iPhoto, what is the source?  Camera? What processing did you do in iPhoto?
Can you look at the Info for the photos that do sync and those that do not to try to find out why?

  • Error message when ejecting ipod from itunes

WHen i press eject next to my ipod in my library, an error message pops up stating "the ipod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." What does that mean and how do i make it go away without messing up my ipod? ANyone have answers?

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.
If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.
Some anti-virus security software (particularly McAfee) can also cause a problem, and if you have this you might want to try turning it off and see if the iPod then ejects correctly.

  • Unplugging Ipod from computer getting error message....help!

I just got my nano I hooked it all up and downloaded music to it. I'm now ready to remove it from the cable and when I click on the icon to disconnect I get an error message that says 'the ipod mini cannot be disconnected because it contains files that are in use from another application' I don't think I have anything else running. • Volume not displayed when controlling iPod from locked phone.

When my screen is locked and I am controlling the iPod, the volume controls on screen do not work and do not display the current volume. The headset and the on phone buttons work fine.

Would assume you have multiple entries, the only cause I know for this problem, lots of posts on the subject, check you don't have more than one name attached to a number, the phone doesn't know who's calling so just shows the number.

  • ITunes/iPod/Mac OS X 10.4 lock up when syncing iPod from front USB

If I connect my iPod to my Quad G5's front USB port, I end up getting the "kernel_task" process to eat up nearly 100% of one of the processors and within 30 minutes the computer becomes unusable and I get a complete system kernel panic. Happens everytime. Anyone have an idea what's going on here?

I've already tried that. iTunes also hangs for a number of minutes whenever I open it up. I have tried trashing prefs etc but no luck. The issue always comes back. Of course I did take this crap G5 into Apple to get it fixed, but they were unable to replicate and so nothing was fixed. I guess I will need to bring it in with my complete setup the next time and show them firsthand. Its funny, I have a 5 yr old Dual G4 that gets used about 4x as much as my less than 6 months old G5.

  • Ipod does not recognize songs when unplugged from computer

My iPod shows all of my library songs when it is connected to the computer, and I am certain the files are physically on the iPod, because it can play songs when connected to iTunes that have been deleted from my hard drive (and I can see the actual files in the hidden iPod control folder), but when I unplug the iPod, i have no songs. I tried to reformat, but when the ipod formats, it never finishes, it just says 'waiting for iPod'. Using Windows XP, SP2.

I just fixed a similar problem with my iPod.
I didn't have any problems with my restore but I still couldn't see any songs on my iPod. ( Yes, I'm updated to the current firmware and 4.9 iTunes. )
The solution for me was to assign a letter drive to the iPod file system when it mounted ( i.e. not to let Windows pick one randomly ). If you have mapped network drives, you should consider doing likewise.
Check this out for more details:
Strange iPod behaviour when Windows confuses iPod with network drive
This article was suggested by James Bond 007 in a post entitled "Ipod v 2.3 vs. 2.2 problem with Updater 2005 -06-26".
You can tell it's got the letter drives confused because it creates an iPod_Control under one of your network drives and starts filling it up instead of your actual iPod ( hence no music when you disconnect ).

  • TS2830 Transfer songs onto Music listfor nano, comes up with sync error 13019 still appears to have transferred to music list on nano while plugged in but when you search on the unplugged ipod not there.

When i transfer a song from my itunes library to ipod nano it says "cannot syn 13019" it appears to transfer song to the music list on ipod but when you disconnect from the computer the songs aren't on the ipod

No, I can't use a charger - I need to recharge the iPod off the computer. (I'm often charging it while traveling with no access to a wall plug).
What you describe in your situation is completely different from what I'm talking about: You have iTunes on and you are syncing the iPod, and then you eject it from within iTunes. What I'm talking about is NEVER having iTunes on, and just plugging the iPod into the USB port and just recharging it, nothing else.
My goal: I want to be able to plug in, recharge, and unplug the iPod without ever touching the mouse or the keyboard or interacting with the computer at all.
I 100% know this is possible because that is the setup I've had for months, and it worked fine. But when I recently updated to iPod software version 1.2, some setting was changed and I can't figure out what. I know it is very simple, the solution, but I've forgotten how I did it in the first place.

  • My iPod restarts every time I unplug it from my computer and deletes my music. How do I stop this from happening?

My iPod froze the other day and deleted all my music and then it wouldn't connect to my iTunes. Now it will connect to my iTunes and it syncs my music but when I unplug it from my computer it restarts itself and deletes all my music that I just put on it. How do I stop it from restarting itself all the time?

iPod issues? Try these five steps first: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore.

  • IPod shows 'Charged' when unplugged 24x7??

This started a week or so ago. I noticed my battery was dead even though my ipod wasnt in use. After charging the battery to full I noticed the issue. When the screen 'powers off' I can see a faint 'Charged' with the battery picture. My guess is this is draining my battery with the screen being on.
I did a restore with ITunes and a manual reset but the same thing. Any ideas? If I go to Apple will they say I'm SOL for warranty?
    Thanks guys

would restore (have reset and put into disk mode and didnt help)but ipod cuts off when unplugged from car charger even tho it says its fully charged. When I plug into computer like the updater/restorer tells me to. It doesnt recognize my ipod. Ipod doesnt bring up "do not disconect" message either. After a min or so the ipod will blink from the black screen with an apple in the middle to the screen with the sick ipod message with the ! and the apple support web site beneath it and then back to just a black screen.

  • HT5219 how do i get my macbook pro 13" retina to keep its display settings the same when I unplug it from my thunderbolt 27" display?

I have just bought a macbook pro 13" with retina display and a 27" thunderbolt display to go with it.
I plug in the display, set it all up to the look and format that I want to use (same for both displays, I am using the mirroring feature), and then when I unplug the macbook from the 27" display it's settings revert and I can't see half my windows as they fall off the edge of the smaller macbook screen.
Is there a way to make the macbook keep the same display settings, even when I unplug it from the 27" display?

Not that I know of... but if someone comes along with a method, I would certainly be interested...

  • How do I stop iTunes from auto-launching when connecting iPod.

I have found one method of doing this set out below.
You may want to stop iTunes from auto-launching whenever you plug in your iPod. To do this, open iTunes, and select the iPod in the left-hand Source window. Four buttons will then appear in the lower right-hand corner of the iTunes window. Click the left-most button with the iPod icon on it. This will bring up the iPod Preferences dialog. Uncheck the option labeled "Open iTunes when attached." You probably also want to prevent iTunes from trying to automatically synchronize your iPod when you connect by selecting the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option in the same Preferences dialog.
I am unable to find the iPod icon in the left hand Source window, maybe if I connect my iPod an icon will appear, but I don't want to do this in case stuff is transferred between the iPod and Comp or vice versa.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was difficult to explain without being so.
If any one knows of another way to do what I am trying to do
Perhaps they would let me know.
    ASP   Windows XP Pro

okay. in a 7.0.x, we no longer get the "ipod options" icon when the ipod is plugged in and selected in the sourcelist (the area to the left of the iTunes screen). instead, the ipod options and preferences display for us in the main library screen.
"Open iTunes when this ipod is connected" is kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab. (scroll down to the bottom of that tab to see everything under the "Options" heading.)
"manually manage music" (or "manually manage music and videos" if you've got a video-capable ipod) is also kept down at the bottom of the "Summary" tab in the Options area.
for a technique for connecting the ipod without automatically syncing (if you have an automatic syncing option set on the ipod already), and then changing the options to "manually manage music", see:
How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
unfortunately, that document is also written for itunes 6.0.x or earlier. so in your case the instructions under the "Now that you're logged in as the Guest user, it's time to get back to iTunes and your iPod:" section at steps 4, 5 and 6 should read:
    4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Summary Tab
    5. Check the "Manually manage music" checkbox.
    6. Click "Apply".

You may need to do a Restore in iTunes.
Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive is probably not a good thing.  It is possible that your iPod's hard drive is becoming unreliable.
