Wierd clicking when i plug in 2nd display

I have a powermac G5 dual 1.8 ghz with an ATI Radeon 9800 XT.
I have a new 23" Cinema HD display connected, no problem.
I just tried connecting an older 23" Cinema display (the one with the plastic enclosure, not aluminum) to the 2nd video out port. As soon as I plug it in, the computer shuts down and proceeds to give me a clicking sound and doesn't let me turn it back on until I unplug the old display. I unplug it, the clicking sound stops and i can turn the computer back on.
Any ideas what's wrong?

First, I'll concur with the other post about not hot plugging the monitor.

Your aluminum bezel 23 has an ADC, not DVI connector?
Hmmm...I thought all the aluminum bezel 23s were DVI?
You are not using any type of adapter?
Anyway, In the Windows world, some video cards will click when they change resolutions, as will some monitors.
Perhaps your card is repeatedly clicking while attempting to find the correct output resolution for the monitor.
My plastic 23 supports 20 resolutions....
9800 XT....
Isn't that a PC only card, with the Mac version named the 9800 and 9800 pro?

i have the same problem, if it could be considered a problem.
It power up instantly when i plug in the cable, without pushing the start button. But i have no fan clicks.
I did a search on the web and found many others messages about this. I called the support and did a SMC reset, but it still power up when i plug it. Hope this will not produce any damage in the future.

Error message: when downloading data from 2nd display tag table

I am using disaply tag to display data in jsp page. I am using three different section to display the data with three display tag table. The data is displaying correctlly. The display tag downlod excel sheet is working for first display tag table. When i am trying to download data from 2nd and 3rd display tag table i am getting following error:

Plugging in 2nd Display = Crash

Everytime I plug in my second display to my Powerbook, the box asking me if I'm sure I want to shut down appears for about 3 seconds, and then my system dies. It doesn't go through the shut down process, where the screen goes grey and that thing spins around. It just shuts down. I've tried repairing disk permissions, but I'm kind of at a loss. Any ideas?
My second display is a 17" Apple Cinema Display. It is connected via an ADC to DVI converter.

Your computer's NVRAM settings for displays could be screwed up. To reset them to eliminate this cause, hold AltApple+PR during reboot (you can let go after you hear a second startup-chime). This wipes out the NVRAM settings and rebuilds them from stored settings on disk (system clock, network, display, power management). This is the simplest thing to try first..
If hardware is eliminated as a likely cause I have some software suggestions to look into... The one thing that causes trouble more than anything else I have found are corrupted system preference .plist files! If you like, you can try deleting these files to start with to force the OS to rebuild them properly automatically. Delete these, reboot, then reconfigure your video settings and see if the problem ends:
In your Users/(accountname)/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder:
com.apple.preference.displays.(############).plist
com.apple.screensaver.(############).plist
(#s are the Mac address of your built-in Ethernet port)
Wipe those files, reboot, and see if the problem has abated..

I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. After installing Mavericks, Adobe CS6 crashes whenever it is plugged into a 27inch cinema display I purchased from the apple store in China (We moved to China). It works when not plugged into 27inch display.

I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. It is now running Mavericks. I connect it to a 27" Cinema Display that I bought in China after we moved to China. Before I installed Mavericks, I could run all of the Adobe CS6 and Adobe CS5.5 applications on my Macbook Pro while connected to the cinema display. Now that I have Mavericks installed, whenever I am connected to my 27" CInema display my Adobe applications crash upon opening. I know this is a rare scenario, but does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a new driver that needs installed? I'd appreciate any help.

I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

Wireless issues when plugging into Mac display

I have noticed that no matter where I am in the house, my Macbook Pro works with my Airport just fine. But when I plug the laptop into a 24" display, my wireless signal does one of two things: it drops a connection, going from full strength to nothing and back again, bouncing back and forth in a slow rhythm, or it will give me a huge drop in strength. Anybody have any idea why this is? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I also have the same issue, specifically similar to that of DimBimbleby, since I am using my MacBook (2008) connected to one of the Apple 24" LED Displays via an Altona converter in the mini-DVI port. The laptop works excellently when not plugged into the display, as do my DVD player (streaming Netflix) and my AppleTV (will never figure out why I bought that) - as soon as the monitor is plugged in, the internet is either extremely sluggish or does not work at all. It took me a bit to figure out that it was only after the display is connected (moved both things all around the house of course). Does anyone at all have ANY idea how to fix it or improve it?? It's really frustrating and I certainly did not pay all that $$ for the display for it not to work with internet. I recently sold an older style 20" ACD Monitor which never had a single issue working with the internet. I have a Linksys Wireless-N router which is not the greatest ever but works well with everything else. Please help!!!!!

Blue Screen when I plug my Ipod Touch 8GB(Late 2009)

My problem is when I plug my Ipod touch 8gb to my laptop(Acer Aspire 5632wlmi,intel core 2 duo processor T5200-1,60 GHz-533MHz L2 cache,1GBDDR 2,Up to 384MB NVIDIAGeForce GO7300 TurboCache,System: Microsoft XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3,all required updates are done),the windows system detects problem and windows shuts down to prevent damage to my computer,this error message appears in blue screen with the technical information of :

What I have done regarding to try to solve the problem ,but not worked at all:
1-I have uninstalled Itunes ultimate version(iTunes 9.0.3 for Windows XP,Vista or Windows 7) and other Apple related components on my Laptop(apple application support,Apple mobile device support,Apple Software Support,Quicktime etc.)
2- a-I re-installed all components mentioned on step 1 and plugged my Ipod: It works when I plug for first time,then I sync with my audio,art-work folders.Then I unplug my Ipod to listen music and see my Art-work,when I plug my Ipod for 2nd time to my Laptop,it crashes and that same blue screen error occurs.
b- I uninstalled all Apple components and plugged my Ipod to my Laptop,it charges the battery but no blue screen occurs.
3- I reset my Ipod and meanwhile uninstall all Apple components again(exactly like in 1st step) in my laptop,then I re-install all components to my laptop, and follow the same steps as exactly in 2nd step.I plug my Ipod and it works for first time,than I do sync through Itunes again,than I unplug and use my Ipod,when I plug for 2nd time than the same blue screen error appears and laptop crashes.
4- a- I reset my Ipod and Meanwhile uninstalled all Apple components,I re-installed iTunes 8.2.1 for Windows XP,Vista or Windows 7) but the same blue screen occurs.
b- I uninstall iTunes and plugged my Ipod to my laptop,no blue screen occurs.
5- I asked my colleague who has MacBook and plug my Ipod to her MacBook, than open Itunes,but Itunes(iTunes 9.0.3 for Mac OS x) can not see my Ipod as device and I am not able to do anything.
6- I've searched in Apple official websites and Google and many Blogger sites,Fan sites and all other possible technical sites but could not find any solution.
7- I've contacted(phone call) to the Local(Portugal) Support Apple Support Centre and explained all history of the problem clearly.But they could not help me,they advised the same possible solutions which I've already done and they said that they can not do more.And than they gave me a support mail address to contact.([email protected])
8- I've sent an email to [email protected], 2 days later they've answered me with the information that they are phone based support therefore they not provide me support.
Basically I am not able to import or export anything to/from my ipod,anyway all windows is going down.
It is first time I buy Apple product.My friends who have Apple products were generally positive about them,and I was thinking to by a MacBook as well,but after this problem I got doubts and I am not satisfied and happy at all. Since days I am trying to find solutions and find the exact support contacts to get helped with this problem.But could not reach any information. Now I don't have any positive Idea about Apple products or support service.I went to the Techno-Market which I bought the Ipod to change with an Iphone or at least try to have my money back if not possible to swap it with Iphone,but they've told me that it has been more than 15 days and they can not swap it or refund it,even if it was possible they would not refund it because the very sensitive backside of Ipod has some small but visible scratches.
Anyway I can see the difficulty of having Apple product,having support of product and finding the right contacts to communicate is not easy and I would really be very happy if anyone could change this idea of mine with helping me out to use my Ipod with peace and without any other problem.
As you can see,I spent a lot of money to buy it and spent days to find solution to my problem and spent a lot of energy to find right Apple Support contacts to help me with my problem.And I am not able to use my product as I wish.
Please advise me regarding to solve my problem. I hate to deal with courts and other legal ways to take action in those kind of cases. But if not of course it will be my last option to do it so.

How to get my 2nd display showing window it was displaying before re-plugin

When at my desktop, I work with both my notebook display and another one.
When I unplug the 2nd display (eg: to take my notebook to a meeting) and later plug in it back, I have to drag the windows from notebook display to 2nd display again.
Do you know an option I should set so windows position are remembered and set again ? It would be very very useful for me !!
Or should I report a request for enhancement ?...

I think the problem comes when you remove the second display, you shrink the extended desktop back to its one-display size. I expect that is similar to what would happen if you changed the resolution on one display alone to something really small, like 640 by 480.
The Mac OS does not want to leave windows in an area that is off the desktop, because they would be completely inaccessible. So it moves them back to the nearest edge of the redefined desktop. I think this is the same phenomenon that leaves the OS 9 Trash can floating in mid screen (rather than near the bottom right) after a screen resolution change.
This sounds like a classic unsolved problem.

LR5 - Photos in 2nd Display are blurry / don't render completely - intermittent issue

Just upgraded to Lightroom 5, and the performance issues I saw in 4 appear to be gone - which is awesome. I've come up on an issue that I've seen referenced in other posts, but only for LR4. Also, the issue seems to be slightly different than mine. My issue is that when I have the 2nd display running in Loupe mode, the image won't render completely and looks blurry/fuzzy, when in Develop mode on the first screen. However, it's not every time. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it takes a few seconds, and then it works. Sometimes, it doesn't ever work. It just sits in a blurry state - not fully rendered. Sometimes if I go to the next photo, and then back, it will then load. Sometimes that doesn't work.
While I did have tons of performance issues in LR4 (including 4.3 and 4.4), this was not something I remember seeing.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, i7 2600-K, 24gb RAM, multiple SSDs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Selecting another picture and coming back usually fixes the problem.

Premiere Pro crashes always when i plug in two displays on one graphic card and one display to the other one.
when i unplug the third display on the second graphic card, premiere pro is working well.

ITunes Freezes When iPod Plugged In. Please Help!

Two years ago I got a 2nd Gen. iPod nano. It worked for a while, but then it started freezing iTunes when I tried to sync it. So I got a 3rd gen. nano. It worked on one computer, then I wanted to put iTunes and start syncing it on another computer. So i transferred all of my songs to the other computer.Which was the same computer I synced my old iPod. I synced my new iPod once and all of my songs went to it. The next day I tried to sync it and as soon as the computer reconized my iPod, iTunes froze. As soon as I unplugged it it unfroze. That was what happened when I plugged my 2nd gen nano in. So now i cannot sync my new iPod because iTunes keeps freezing. Do you know what I could do to fix this problem??

Also, do you know what causes this problem? As you suggest using an earlier firmware, I'm guessing some aspect of a later version is to blame?

I can't seem to turn off my 2nd display (with no adapter plugged in)

Been looking on the internets for ages about this and not got anywhere, so did a completely fresh install last night.
The problem is that the DVI (2nd display connection) thinks that I have a VGA display connected (i.e. the 2nd display) when I plug in the DVI-VGA adapter to use with a TV that works fine. The 2nd display resets to align itself to the TV connected.
When I disconnect the adapter the Mac resets it display. Back to having this phantom display connected.
I've plugged in the DVI-VGA adapter as well and then carefully removed that and sameroblem.
Having done a fresh install that would mean it's not a software issue, so it has to be a hardware one? Something with the actual connection? Does anyone know of any potential problems as to why this would happen?
I've tried some compressed air. (I've lost the straw so it was straight from the can, spray paint style)

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

Try:
- Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Resetting network settings: Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

HT1351 Why is it that when I plug in my ipod, it doesn't open a window that let's me click on my music

I accidentally deleted all of my old content. I went to the Apple store and they told that the system doesn't recognize that old of IDs. So, I have tried to redo music. I put some CD's on my computer and it won't let me sync the music on my ipod. When I plug in my ipod, it doesn't show a column on the left that show any playllists, or music or anything. I am not good with computers (duh) and need help!

In iTunes 11 you have the option to turn the Sidebar and the Status Bar on or off; they are off by default. To do this in the menus, go to:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).
