Wierd error message and computer restarting

Everytime I try to change any ipod preferences, I get the following error message:
"An error occurred when updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access priviliges for this operation."
Then, when I press OK, my computer restarts. Also, when I go to File-Update iPod, my computer restarts, AND when I plug in my iPod for auto update, it will restart unless it has just restarted. In other words, it will only allow 1 update per restart. Please help, I have Windows XP home edition, a fairly fast computer with no viruses that I know of. I don't know what could be causing this!!!
PC   Windows XP

sorry, been away and only just checked back on the forums. I thought quicktime as itunes uses this under the covers and I had ort of the same problem. I would suggest de-installing all the software and start with a blank canvas. Make sure you remove the software with the add/remove software task though.
Once you've removed all the software format the ipod (as a removable disk)
Use the CD that came with your ipod to do the re-install.
Hope this helps / works.
P.S. how can such a small item cause so many people so much grief (myself included). saying that there must be thousands of ipod user out there that have never had problem! lucky so and so's

  • Getting BSOD error message and PC restarting upon startup...

Can someone help me in resolving my PC problem please?
2 days ago, I started getting a BSOD with a message that popped up so fast, I couldn't read it. It then asked me how I wanted to start Windows, and I pick normally. It takes an extremely long time to start up, but it does start. It then seems to function
OK. I shutdown normally and the next time I turn my pc on, got the same thing.
I have not installed any new software except for the Windows updates. My pc is approximately 2 years old, they usually last 5 years for me. No new hardware. Today I opened it up, cleaned it out and reseated the RAM.
I have run the SMART utility at the command prompt to check the hd and it tells me OK OK.
Upon shutting down tonight, and on the next startup, I will have the pc run the memory test.
I was able to find this:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
      OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
      Locale ID: 1033
    Additional information about the problem:
      BCCode: fc
      BCP1: FFFFF8A006D24920
      BCP2: E2400001EAD0A963
      BCP3: FFFFF8800378C5B0
      BCP4: 0000000000000002
      OS Version: 6_1_7601
      Service Pack: 1_0
      Product: 256_1
What does this mean? It looks to me like locations in the RAM, but I'm not sure. Could this mean my RAM has gone bad?
I have tried to report/check for solutions, but it keeps asking me to send more information, and when I try to send it, it tells me there is a problem with the Windows Error Reporting system.
I don't see any problems that need fixing in my Action Center.
I did scan for malware using Malware bytes and found 1 item which I then cleaned out. I have re-scanned several times and have come up clean.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to solving this problem please?
    Thank You!

    Hi,
The dump file can not be opened directly, we need to use a debugger tool to open and analyze the file, we usually use WinDbg, you can get it from the MSDN website, to analyze the file, you can find many WinDbg related articles in the msdn websites
    if you're interested with it.

If you have problems analzing the file, please upload the latest dump file to OneDrive, then share the download link with us.

  • When I try to launch the edit tab, I get a error message to close restart my computer and try again.

When I try to launch the edit tab, I get a error message to close restart my computer and try again.

The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. This is because PSE saves your settings each time you close the application. Problems can sometimes occur if you don’t let the program close properly or if you launch another application too quickly whilst closing down Elements. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts. To begin, close Elements.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. After a few seconds release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Alternatively hold down the three keys whilst  clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys for a few seconds; then release. You should get the settings option.
When you see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), Intel core i5 2.3GHz

Well, after some thought, I did a 'safe boot', did a disk verify and repair in Disk Utility, repaired permissions in DU and had the same problem I'd mentioned in post.
SO, I went back in (safe boot.........that is, hold down start button, then 'shift') and went to applications and removed or uninstalled any apps that I thought might be interferring with the re-boot or, specifically, with my being unable to sign in with my p/w.........(at the first key stroke, it would crash and give the 'error' message)....I had both Webroot and Dashlane installed that I thought could interfere with password recognition (Webroot protects from viruses, et all and Dashlane is a password codifying appl.) I took out whatever else I thought might not be friendly and, guess what ?? When I signed out of 'safe' mode, and rebooted normally, it worked.........and has been working properly for 3-4 hrs now, so guess it's good-to-go..........seems like it...........hope this helps anyone with the same problem I'd had...........no need to visit "genius bar" some 55 miles from here............guess us mid-seventies guys ain't too old for learnin'...........G'Day, Mates !!

  • Error message says computer must restart o complete upgrade of Firefox, but has been restarted many times, and won't uninstall.

The user on whose machine this problem exist does not have administrator rights. Firefox version 5 detected an upgrade (to version 17) so she allowed it to continue. It didn't work, but since then Firefox has not worked at all. It displays an error message" Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to restart now. " I was able to remove version 17 using Windows Add/Remove programs, but Add/remove programs show an installer, icon, not a normal Program icon. The machine is a HP8000 running Windows XP SP3

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

copy the installation files to a desktop folder and install from there.

I am not 100% sure this is the issue, but I saw a different thread about the ATI Radeon HD 2600 not being OpenCL compatible for another program and that a newer compatible graphics card would be required to solve the problem.  I am getting the same message with my 2007 iMac 24".

  • HT1926 I was loading an update to my i-Tunes for my computer and got an error message and now I can not open my computer itunes and may have lost all the content. What do I do?

I got a request from apple to update my itunes and while uploading the update, the program gave an error message and now I can not open my itunes and fear that all my music etc is gone?  what do I do to correct this problem?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
