Wierd issue trying to print from Win 7 - Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Server

Hey guys,
I've set up a printer queue to share a Brother 4040-CDN printer. I "think" I've set everything up correctly as I can print from Mac-to-Mac without any problems.
However, when I try to print from a Windows 7 client something really weird happens. I CAN'T print from any application (Word, notepad, adobe, etc) but I CAN print a printer test page.
I've checked the logs and its showing the printer test page, obviously, but there's nothing in there when I try printing from any other application - not even an error message from as far as I can see.
Ideas?

I'm hoping to enforce a print quota on it later, thus the need to share it through the server.
I've tried using IPP and LPR to print to the printer from the queue.
I've got it shared via IPP, SMB, and LPD.
To install the printer on the Windows 7 machines I browse to the server (\\server) and I then double click on the printer (br4040_r). Windows then proceeds to ask me to pick the driver to install. I pick the brother 4040-cdn series driver and Windows finishes installing it. It then asks me to print a test page, I say yes and the test page prints out fine. If I then try to print from notepad or something the print job never ends up making it to the print queue.

  • Want to print from Macbook pro (snow leopard) to laserwriter 8500

I found advice about printing using IP but I am not able to get that to work no how. Advice was about sending command lines to printer. Currently via ethernet through a netgear hub that always used to work with my old desktop PPC iMac G4.

Call Apple and order the Snow Leopard install DVD from which you can install 10.6.3
Then upgrade to 10.6.8 to get the App Store to download 10.7
But first check to besure your Mac is capable of having 10.7 installed on it.
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended

  • Stuck trying to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard

I just got a new hard drive and cloned the old one from my MacBook to it. Now, while attempting to simply start the install for Snow Leopard from Tiger, I can't select the hard drive to install. I get a message that says "To install on this disk, open Disk Utility by choosing Utilities > Disk Utility, and repartition this disk using "GUID Partition Table." Important: you will lose all data on this disk by repartitioning it."
To me, this makes no sense. Why would I want to upgrade to a new OS and lose all data on my hard drive? Can anyone help?

New HDs are formatted by the manufacturer. Cloning doesn't reformat. That's up to you. See http://help.bombich.com/kb/overview/format for details.

  • Trying to upgrade from tiger to snow leopard

I'm a poor college student who would like to upgrade to snow leopard from tiger on my mac book pro. I talked to someone at the apple store, and they wanted me to buy the box set, that had ilife and iwork in it as well. I wanted to know if there is a way to just upgrade the operating system alone. I'm just looking for the most economical way of upgrading. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

You can upgrade with the $30 SL retail package, but if you use iLife and/or iWork you should get the Boxed Set, but it isn't necessary if you don't use them.
Note that other third-party applications may need to be upgraded for SL compatibility.
Please read the following about upgrading:
    System Upgrade and Installation Procedure
    Basic Caveats
    1. Disconnect all peripherals except the original mouse and keyboard.
    2. Quit all applications if this is not an installation from an Installer DVD.
    3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation you may have to erase the hard drive and reinstall from scratch.
    4. Once the installation begins do not use the computer in any way except to reply to dialog prompts or to restart when the installation is completed. This is especially critical during the installation stage known as "Optimizing the System."
    System Update Procedure
    A. Repair hard drive and permissions.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.2 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
    B. Clone your existing system to an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the startup or source volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Check the box to Erase Destination. Skip this step if you've already formatted the drive.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    C. Decide upon an installation option.
You have three upgrade options. If you use the Upgrade installation option be sure you have repaired the hard drive and permissions first and made your backup. If you choose the Archive and Install option then you only need to repair the hard drive.
Neither of the above options will erase the disk. Some of your software may not work with a new system. You will need to upgrade those programs. It would be best to do the upgrades to your software before upgrading to the new system version.

  • Going from Mavericks to Snow Leopard?

I'm trying to go from Mavericks to Snow Leopard on my 2011 Macbook Air (intel i7, 1.8 Ghz, 4 GB of Ram), but it won't let me. I tried going into Disk Utility and deleting everything off the hard drive itself, then booting from the disc itself, but it won't work. I tried restoring for a Snow Leopard back-up, it would work, although it did let me boot to a Lion backup. I even tried to simply set the start-up disc to my Snow Leopard retail disc, but it wouldn't boot. I could hear the disc moving in my USB superdrive for 15-20 sec, then it just stopped and the computer stays at the Apple logo. Any suggestions?

You cannot run Snow Leopard on that model. You can reinstall Lion which is what came pre-installed from the factory:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

    Hi to the Mac Folks,
I have 10.6.8 and have installed two new printers HP 8610 and an Epson 7880 and can not find the Page Set-up menu anywhere in the applications I a trying to print from. This is regardless of either printer selected.
I primarily print photos from Photoshop CS5.  The term Page Set-up has gone missing in the file pull down menu. Can't make any choices  There are no page sizes, paper types, appearsto be locked on a 13x19 size paper format. Either being too large or too small.
Saw a 2008 locked issue about this however none of the help fit my situation, options discussed are not available to me.
Preview has no "Page Setup" - or does it?
Does the constant struggle with computer compatability weirdness issues ever end or is it a enslavement scheme?

    Hey,
if you know the name(s) of the root folder(s) you want to access (eg. by making a note on the Windows side) then you can make them appear by just doing Shift-Command-G in Finder ("Go to Folder…"), and entering the full path to the required folders.  You can then navigate all the contents as normal.

  • Frustrated trying to print from Canon Pixma 9500

Does anyone have any tips for printing from Canon Pixma 9500?
I profiled the screen, printer and paper using colormunki.
Trying to print from photoshop. Frustrated that the printer interface isn't as described in many online forums (for example, it seems impossible to turn off colour management).
Getting strange blue borders around everything when using the paper profiles via colormunki.
Does anyone have any good tips?
    .......help.....!

I used colormunki to calibrate my screen, printer and to make a paper profile.
Read one site that suggested the strange blue borders are related to V4 vs V2 paper profiles...whatever that means. Apparently it is an issue printing from photoshop.

  • Trying to print from a Vista computer to a printer connected to an XP computer

I am trying to print from a Windows Vista computer to a shared Laserjet p2035n printer connected via USB cable to a Windows XP computer.  When I try to print a test page 2 files are sent to the spool/printers folder on the XP computer but nothing prints.  The printer prints fine when printing directly from the XP computer.  When I found the printer on the network and told it to connect it installed automatically.  I thought maybe the wrong drivers were somehow installed so I downloaded and ran the Vista drivers file for this printer from the HP site but it didn't change anything.
I have cleared the spool folder and reinstalled the printer but still no joy.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Here is some additional information... The printer does print from other networked XP computers, just not from the networked Vista computer. This makes it seem like it must be a driver issue. Is there some way to totally remove the HP drivers for this printer from the Vista computer so that I can do a fresh install?  When I uninstall the printer from the Vista computer it obviously doesn't remove the drivers because when i reinstall the printer it goes in automatically without giving me a chance to specify where the drivers are.
Are there any known issues regarding printing from a networked Vista machine to a printer connected to an XP box?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone out there has!

  • 7515 keeps trying to print from photo tray when main tray selected (Mac)?

Just started uing a iMac with the 7515.  It's driving me nuts that it keeps trying to print from the photo tray when I have main tray clearly selected in the print dialog box.
I'm trying to insert the picture of the print dialog box, but doesn't seem to be working.  In presets (the second selection box from the top) I've got "Print from Main Tray" selected pretty plainly.
Turning the printer on and off does not help.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hey Chriscic,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Always the best recommend steps to start off with when troubleshooting with a Mac, is to reset the printing system. Then verify, and repair the disk permissions.
So to start with the reset of the printing system, I have included the document 'Macintosh: Resetting the Printing System in Mac OS X'. Please select your version of Mac, and follow through the steps. If you have Mavericks, you can follow the steps for OS X v10.8. Also, please do not re-add the printer just yet.
After the reset of the printing system, you will need to complete the verify, and repair of the disk permissions. I have included the document 'Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions'. For step three when it asks you to select a disk, please select your hard drive. Once the repair has completed, please restart the Mac.
After the Mac has restarted, you can now add the printer back into the print queue. The try to print. Are you still experiencing the same issue? Or are you able to print from the main tray?
If you do require further assistance, please let me know the version of Mac OS X you are running. If you need it, I have included the document 'Finding your OS X version and build information'.
    Looking forward to your reply.

  • Trying to print from ipad mini to Hp B110a

Hi, i have an hp b110a printer which is successfully connected to our network. My ipad mini is also connected to the same network. I am trying to print from the ipad but it says it can't find any AirPrint printers... Help!! Thanks

    Hi back Cmwc,
Okay - I reread that document I listed above, and picked out the steps that I think will help the most. Give them a try, and see if that'll do the trick - if they don't work, I would call Apple Support.
    1. Turn the router, the Apple device, and the HP printer off
    2. Turn the router and the printer back on
    3. Make sure that the printer is on the network
    4. Turn on the Apple device and check the network connection
    5. Upgrade the Apple device to the most current version of iOS
    6. Make sure that your router can forward Bonjour packets, and then restart the Apple device
    7. Restart the Apple device
    8. Update your router with the most recent firmware, and then try to print
