Wierd Mac Installer problems

Im not sure why but i cant get any .pkg files to install properly. At some point in the installation the UI becomes totally un responsive and i get the spinning beachball of death. This happens for me with various pkg files, namely the iPhone SDK installer and the Onyx installer package?
Does anyone have any ideas?

See my post with this same post date in the topic iLife '09 installation problems; run preflight script error for one possible cause of this behavior.
It also could be that you need to run the "Permissions Repair" option in Disk Utility's First Aid tab to correct some permission on a system file used during the installation procedure; that your drive's file system needs to be repaired with the "Repair Disk" option; or that the drive does not have adequate free space to complete the installation. (As a rule of thumb, try to leave 10 to 15% of the startup volume's capacity free, or at lease 5 GB over & above whatever the installer tells you is needed for the install itself.)
As a general rule, it is a good idea to quit all other applications before doing an installation that uses Apple's Installer.app, & it may be necessary to disconnect non-essential peripherals (everything except the keyboard, mouse, & monitor) & restart before doing so. You should also consider removing any hacks or uninstalling any third party "enhancers" that modify basic system behavior before doing installs, or at least making sure that the latest versions of such things are installed. (Some "enhancers," especially "Application Enhancer" -- a.k.a "APE"-- are installed by other third party products & their developers do not always make that clear, so do not assume one of these things is not on your Mac just because you have not installed it directly.)

  • Microsoft office 2004 for mac installation problem

    Hi there,
I initially download the microsoft office 2004 trial. I bought the student & teacher edition and install it in my macbook. There was a uninstall button on the trial software that I press and I don't know if that removed the trial version. The problem is "this product is license to office 2004 test drive user, my name and product ID number" are all showing initially when you press any of the office 2004 icon. Having the test drive user showing up makes me wonder if the trial version was totally deleted. If the trial version was not deleted, will it slow down the program and how can I remove it without re-installing the full version that I bought.
    Any help is appreciated
    thanks so much

The uninstaller is located in the MS Office folder in the Additional Tools folder. There's also one on the Office 2004 X Installer CD.

  • Reader Mac installer problems

    Hi there
New to the forum, just after seeing if anyone has a soloution for me:
Ive checked someonline help topics but dont seem to have found my answer and saw another discussion on here , that sounded similar, but when i clicked on it it to read the answers , it just said its been moved to another forum but with no link :/ so sorry if im reposting an existing problem .
Ok so I had Reader installed on my mac, it seems to have been constantly updating recently ...
Anyway tried to install the update but it just came up with an error 1301 or similar....
following online advice I deleted the old one , logged in as administrater to download and install the 11.0.2 update.
I run the installer but when it gets to 'running package scripts' it freezes for about 3 mins, (although say 1 min remaining) and then fails.
Ive tried restarting my machine, redownloading and stil get the same issue.
To confirm im a mac, running 10.8.2 , i have no antivirus software istalled or running and all other apps are closed.
Im logged in an admin account and trying to install for all users . ( 1 other account exists on my machine which is my main account i use)
Ive now deleted the old reader so now have nothing installed and dont seem to be able to get it back which is annoying
    Any help greatly appreciated !!!

    Hi,
When you are trying to install Reader XI for the second time, are you using the same user account on which Reader was previously installed? If yes, I would suggest you to create a fresh user account with admin rights and then try to install Reader XI using the account you had just created.
The problem you are facing might be due to some files *or* incorrect file permissions that are left behind from the earlier installations of Reader. Just try with the above step and update with the results.
    Thanks,

  • Microsoft Office for Mac Installation Problems

I have Office for Mac 2004, which supposedly allows 3 installations, with 3 different Installation Key Numbers. I have installed it on 2 Macs, and all is fine until I try to use both computers at the same time. Then I get a message on the Mac on which I installed it second telling me that "a copy of this programme is already open", and if I want to continue I have to close down all the Office applications on the first machine! Very frustrating! I am almost certain I used a different installation Key for the two machines but cannot find the recoed of what Key number was used. If I look in "Properties" I see that the product ID numbers are the same until the last group of digits which are different on the two machines. How can I find which installation Key numbers I used on each machine, and is there any way I can get aouns this problem. I am nervous to unistall and reinstall in case I am then not allowed to reinstall with a previously used Key!?
    Thanks,
    Kendrew.

Don't be nervous. It's no big deal. On one machine, run Office and make note of the Product ID in the About <app> dialog.
Now, on the other machine, delete the file at /Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist and at /Users/<you>/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office Settings.plist.
The next time you run Office on the other machine, you will be able to re-enter your product key. After entering the serial number, double-check the product key with the one from the first machine. If it is the same go back and enter another serial number.

  • Adobe Photoshop 12 Mac, Installation problem

Hi there ! I have a Adobe Photoshop Elements bought a few days ago 12 full version in retail and this is now trying to install on my Imac. Now I am annoyed about the following problem. " This serial number for Adobe Photoshop turning 12 could not be checked out to the support. . " : After entering the serial number following message appears. Did anyone ever here have to do with this problemß

There is a German version because I'm from Germany. Excuse the typos. Here the screenshot of the error message. Could it be that the software does not communicate with Adobe , so the fault is by the Mac system? Please, i need help.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Mac-installation problem

I have recently bought Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 as an upgrade (for Mac) and after I enter the serial number during installation it asks me for a serial number of a qualifying product, listing three: Premiere Elements 4, 7 or 8. I only have Premiere Elements 9. I would be happy to buy the aforementioned products except several sources suggest that PE8 was never produced for Mac. Any ideas of what I can do?

  • Acrobat X1 (Mac) Installation Problem

I just installed Acrobat X1 using my Creative Cloud subscription. Following the installation I launched Acro X1. All I got was the File menu and nothing else. After waiting several minutes I decided to Force Quit. Next, I restarted my MacBook Air and then relaunched Acro X1. Again, nothing happened. I then decided to uninstall Acro X1, thinking I'd try to re-install once more. After the uninstall I returned to Creative Cloud and clicked to Download Acro X1. When the Adobe Application Manager appeared it reported that I already had Acrobat X1 installed so, of course, I was unable to re-install as planned.
Any idea what's going on here? This is an unaspicious start for a new product like Acrobat X1.

    Hey Scott,
please try to remove it from Applications -> Utilities -> Adobe Installers and see if the installation goes fine after that. BTW, what is the version of Mac OS X installed on your MacBook Air?

  • Mac Installation Problem

Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    OSX: 10.7.5
    Safari: 6.0.5
When trying to install the latest version of Adobe Flash I get a General Installation Error.  I uninstalled the previous version and closed safari but still not working.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Download the offline installer here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg
If it won't download directly, right click and "Save as"
Mount the DMG and run the installer
If it won't run, go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the Flash Player.plugin file from there
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder (the whole folder)
    Empty the trash
    Reboot
Mount the DMG and run the installer again.

  • :smileymad: 8520, MAC installation Problem= .MAC Addresses no longer exist, folks!

Hi, when I intalled the software ot interface my BB with my MAC Pro it screwed everything up. In order to organize everything it asks me for my .MAC address, something which hasn't existed for years. I I can't even use one of the enw MAC addresses bacause the ".MAC" part of the address is hard-written into the form!
Also, it is now opening Entourage, instead mf my MAIL program. I have absolutely no use for this if it ins't part of a larger interface which permits me to coordinate my calendars...
How can I at least get back to zero, and preferable take advantage of the features I bought this stupid phone for?

Well, quite honesly, I don't believe Entourage is on the BlackBerry CD provided with the device. So I still don't know what all is going on.
ON your BlackBerry disc, you might have installed PocketMac?
I would recommend UNinstalling it if you did, and instead download and install a more recent version from here:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Entourage is akin to MS Outlook, only for the Mac. And, Entourage is a product of Microsoft as well. For issues with Entourage, I would contact or look for the Entourage user forums.
Sometime this month, rumored soon, BlackBerry will introduce it's Mac-compatible Desktop Manager application. From what I have read and heard, you will be pleased with it.

  • CS5 Mac Installation Problem

I am installing Adobe Design Premium CS5 on my MacBook Pro and it keeps wanting me to close Safari to complete installation, but it is closed.  What should I do?

Please check the 'Activity Monitor' and see if any instances of Safari has been left. Close if any and retry.

  • Flash player installation problem on MAC

I have repeatedly tried to download and install Flash player v14 for my MacBook Pro and it constantly hangs at the "Retrieving Install" screen never moving past 0%. Then it times out and says the install has failed. I have also completely wiped old versions of Flash from my system (now NO Flash-enabled sites will work at all--even more frustrating).
    Any clues to remedy? Thanks.

The new Adobe Flash 14 installer does not work when you have an automatic proxy set. I've installed many versions of Flash on Mac without problems, but the new v.14 installer would never even start the download. (Of course the installer dmg would download, but when I ran the installer app, the download of Flash would not start, seemingly hanging at "Retrieving Installation"). I tried the uninstaller, which worked great. Then I tried installing v.13, which also worked fine. But I only got v.14 to install after I ... went to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies and de-selected Automatic Proxy Configuration. Be sure to make a note of your Automatic Proxy URL, because after installing Flash and going back to the network Preference, I saw that the Automatic Proxy Configuration field was blank. But when I re-entered my APC URL, and clicked to select APC, all was well and I had flash installed while still able to browse external web sites when behind my companies firewall.

You are right, Adobe does not support CS5 because it is no longer sold.
Simply download the trial version of CS5 from this Adobe web site and input your serial number.

  • Installation problem w/Vista

    Boot Camp/Vista installation problem
MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
Trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium using Boot Camp.
Started Boot Camp Installer and created 32GB partition. Inserted Vista disk as instructed and clicked on Start Installation.
Black screen appeared looking like this:
    1.
    2.
    Select CD-ROM Boot Type: _
That last underline was flashing, waiting for input.
First off, I don't know what to type in, but . . .
The keyboard appears to be disabled because no keystroke registers, nor Return/Enter. Even pressing caps lock or num lock fails to register a light on those keys.
The only way out is to hold down the power key until shutdown, then restart with Eject key depressed to eject Vista disk.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi RebelGood,
    have a look here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=467704 for instructions/solution.
Basically you have to make yourself a copy of your Vista disc using the files of that disc and a programm called oscdimg.exe plus a burning program.
And it had to be done on a Windows PC or in virtualized Windows (using Parallels/Fusion/VirtualBox) on your Mac.

  • Is After Effects CS5.5 PowerPC-only? (Installation Problem)

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium on a new (2012) Mac Mini (Intel Core i7 processor) running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  Most of the apps installed correctly, but After Effects CS5.5 gives me the following error when I try to launch:
You can't open the application "Adobe After Effects CS5.5" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app (along with Flash Catalyst, which also fails), but the error remains. What's the deal here? Is it an installation problem, or is After Effects CS5.5 truly incompatible with my new hardware/OS?  Any suggestions appreciated.

Okay, answered my own question.  I was installing on a Mac Mini, which doesn't have an optical drive, so I was using a remote optical drive to install across my network.  Turns out that confused the installer.  I ended up copying the install DVD onto a flash drive and installing from that.  Problem went away.

  • ++ Debugging ACR Installation Problems ++

If Photoshop CS2/Bridge is not working correctly after you attempt to install ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 3.1 or higher, here a some hints on how to debug common installation problems.
    1. Make sure that "Camera Raw" appears exactly once in Photoshop's "About Plug-in" menu. If it appears zero times, you did not install the plug-in in a correct location. The correct location is shown below. If it appears more than one time, you have multiple copies of the plug-in installed.
The new location for Adobe Camera Raw 3.x and 4.x is:
    >Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS2/File Formats/
b Note: that the Library folder refered to above is that found at root level and NOT the User/Library folder.
    >Win: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS2\File Formats\
    2. If "Camera Raw" appears exactly once in the "About Plug-in" menu, then pick that item and make sure the Camera Raw about box shows version 3.1 or higher. If not, you have the wrong version of Camera Raw installed.
    3. Run Bridge and pick "Camera Raw Preferences..." from the Bridge(Mac) or Edit(Win) menu. If the command is grayed out, then you don't have Camera Raw installed in the correct place. If the Camera Raw preferences dialog does not have "Version 3.1 or higher" in the title bar, you have the wrong version of Camera Raw installed.
If after you verify that that 1, 2 and 3 are correct, and you are still having problems (e.g. generic raw image icons in lieu of thumbnail previews), then next step is to purge the Adobe Bridge cache for any folders you are having problems with. The command to use is:
    "Tools->Cache->Purge Cache for this Folder".

Understood guys. But let me make a few points.
    1. Clearly I'm not the only one who had this problem. In fact, I wasn't the first person in this THREAD to have the problem.
    2. I'm fairly computer savvy, and have worked with Photoshop for several years.
    3. Yes, it does say c: in point 3, but I find it odd that in point 4 it does say Program Files/.... A very strange way to write it. Also, the c: drive is the default installation drive, so it's not idiocy for someone to assume that the file would be located on the same drive as you selected for installation.
    4. This is not about technically right or wrong. I never said that the instructions were wrong. I merely was trying to make a suggestion that would help people avoid the same trap I fell into. Was it my mistake? Yes. Would my clarifying suggestion perhaps help others avoid making the mistake I did. I would hope so. Also, as someone else suggested in this thread, Adobe SHOULD have written an installation program for the ACR 3.1 upgrade that did the placing automatically. After all, EVERYONE knew that ACR3.1 would be released shortly after the release for CS2...in fact Mr. Knoll himself was quoted in other forums about when D2X compatibility would actually happen.
    5. The purpose of these forums is to be helpful to other users--not to be patronizing or rude. I'm a big Photoshop fan, and a loyal customer. I'm also in the service industry, and I would bet that customer service experts would raise an eyebrow or two about the tone contained in certain messages in this thread, including from an Adobe employee.
Just my two cents. Flame away if you must. But you might want to take a look at what I actually suggested in my last message before lighting up the torch.
