Wierd Monitor Lines

Two days ago My monitor started showing horizontal lines thru the dock, folders, iphoto pictures. Any thing that is layered over the original screen saver picture. I did a utility disk verify(disk first aid) nothing showed up wrong. I've shut down and restarted many times.I changed the screen saver to many different pics. Nothing seems to help. I took a screen shot and will post the picture but I don't know how to do that. It is very hard to explain but once I figure out how to post a picture then It will be easier to see what I'm talking about. I have a very basic knowledge of how this computer works. So explanations and helps will have to be put very simply for me to understand. Thanks for any help.
Pat

OK Here is the screen shot (if I did it right). You can see the lines that I'm talking about in the dock at the bottom of the page , in the files folders and icons,in the gray area right behind the words Mac Help.

  • Wierd monitor compatibility problem

    Hi all,
Got a wierd monitor compatibility problem. G3 works fine on a sony 21" CRT.
Connected it to a Daytec 15" CRT which works fine with a windows 98 PC.
With the G3 I get the apple and the spinning up logo then the screen just goes blank.
Is this monitor PC only or something? It is an old monitor but I thought any monitor should work
    if the vga connector fits?

So you are using this directly plugged into the stock Display card in a Blue & White G3 with NO adapter?
The Mac is probably still set for a higher resolution that the SONY can do, and has not noticed the display has changed.
Video pros says that Video can be plugged and unplugged all day long with no bad effects. If your old display is still around, try setting it to 640 by 480, save changes, and swap the other one in "live" at that resolution.
    Other tricks:
Reset the PRAM. This will send you back to a default setting while booting up, but may change when the system becomes active.
Boot from a CD. This ignores the settings on your Hard drive, and boots to a very simple resolution like 640 by 480 to ensure that Most Macs can start up with it.

  • Toshiba nb505 dual monitor & line out sound

Hi all, I've gotten a toshiba recently. Everything is working perfectly right out of the box--except the dual monitor setup (w/ a maxent moniter as the secondary).
The maxent works fine w/ other laptops, so that item is not the problem. It has to be the toshiba. When the toshiba starts up, the images like the toshiba logo and very initial windows splash will show up. But then it stops, and the maxent just goes back to its blue screen. In addition, the line out sound will only play right speaker sound (on the maxent and other devices) . . . but w/ headphones it is fine.
Please advise on any suggestions. Drivers are all up-to-date and windows updates are good, so I'm really lost.
This should be basic, so it's pretty disappointing this isn't working. Thank you!
    system info:
    toshiba nb505-508BL
OS Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit

    update:
sound line out: Apparently the speaker on that maxent monitor flat out just doesn't work anymore--no matter what input. And I suppose my hearing is such that it may well have been like that for a while, as it's unlikely the toshiba just happened to blow out that speaker these few recent times I hooked it up to the maxent (as there was no such indication, like a pop or the like).
dual monitor: Testing w/ other monitors successfully, this seems to be more a compatibility issue w/ the Maxent itself (though there may be other monitors it won't work w/, too). So I mostly wanted to put this out there still if wide compatibility w/ dual/external monitors is something that others are considering this sys. for, too. . . .
Otherwise, the netbook is working fine, and I have no other complaints--though I found this dual monitor issue rather disappointing (still I feel it's quite possible that a RAM upgrade may resolve this, since others have cited that upgrade as rather essential for getting the most out of this little sys., but I haven't tried that yet).

  • Strange monitor lines [advice request]

I'm getting strange RGB vertical lines on my monitor that come and go less than daily. These lines are effected by the on screen windows; They actually arc around whatever is on the screen. And screen shots don't pick them up. My gut instinct tells me that it's the video card going bad. I hope so anyway; The monitor was purchased new around month ago, and it wasn't cheap. The video card is a nVidia 7600GT and has functioned perfectly with the current drivers from extra since they were released. I don't have another machine with digital outputs to give an honest monitor test, and even if I did, predicting when the lines come could require days of operation. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this problem?

I discovered something strange. The fancy lines come in when Thunar/gamin are in "runaway process mode". The lines came back as soon as Thunar locked up. I started up conky and confirmed 100% usage on core one, opened a terminal, killall Thunar, and the lines stopped. I tried some video encoding to get core one to 100% and everything went smoothly like always. I'm currently trying to get Thunar to lock up in just the right way to see if I can reproduce the same results. (The right way meaning 100% processor power. Getting Thunar to lock up is extremely easy. Maybe I should reinstall fam in order to double the crashes for testing purposes!)
    --EDIT--
Pure luck. It happened again without any recent Thunar activity. Hopefully the new video card resolves the issue. If not, it's an excellent upgrade anyhow!

  • Cisco SPA - Monitoring Line Status

    Hi,
I have a Cisco SPA112, though this would apply to the Cisco SPA122 as well.
It has the latest 1.3.2 firmware on it.
I want to monitor the status of Line 1.  If I changes to being Unregistered, I want to know.
How are people doing this at the moment?
I can SNMP walk the device, but I can't see an obvious OID there that gives me the status.
How are people monitoring the status of their ATA's?
    Thanks!
    Tim

Is there any way to get the Line 1 status from the web page without having to login?
Or is there a way to login programatically using wget etc?

  • X-Fi Extreme audio: Can't enable monitoring line-in, winxp s

? I have my Line6 Pod connected to my x-fi's line-in port, I can record fine, but I want to HEAR what i'm playing? What to do? I have unchecked do not monitor box on mixer. I have newest driver. This is making me very angry, I practice at home playing with my music from computer and mix my own playing to it, but now I can't do it...

could really use some type of input on why this isn't working, before I go out and buy another card.
    Thanks

  • Monitoring line-in

I'm switching from a PC and noticing that the audio line-in isn't automatically monitored to the audio out. I keep my mics/instruments plugged into a mixer which goes into the line-in, so it would be nice to hear the audio output through my speakers without having to fire up GarageBand, create a new track, and turn monitoring on (which creates a not-insignificant delay).
Am I just being dense, or is this not possible? No setting in System Preferences or Audio MIDI Setup seems to make a difference. Thanks.
iMac Core Duo 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks for confirming that this isn't something OS X can do on its own (mind-boggling!). I Googled for apps and came up with a few, but only one that works (it's the only Universal Binary of the lot) -- LineIn. Routes any input to any output. Free. Universal Binary. Does what it says on the tin. Couldn't ask for more (well, there's a Menu Extra on the same page, that'd be a bit nicer than an app I have to hide; too bad it's not Universal and won't run).

  • Monitoring Line card Memory and CPU utlization

    Hi,
Please help me to configure CPU and Memory utlization of Line card modules using HP NNM tool.
I need MIB values to configure the same.

    Hi,
Is there any utility in solaris similar to nmon,
found in AIX, to monitor the server resources like
memory and CPU ? Could you describe the features of nmon that you're looking for?
Is "sar" the only command to monitor ?Other commands might be vmstat, prstat, iostat, mpstat. There's also "orca" which can be run to collect and graph data from a system.

  • Wierd dotted line only caused by insertion of .swf file in FF, but not in IE

    Hi there,
Can anyone explain why this only happens in FF and not in IE? I have been trying to see why it occurs under the .swf file and only in FF.
The website does not show the dotted line in IE.
Its as if the .swf file is 1 pixel to deep for the website in FF, and causes the line to appear.
Doing this for a friend and any help would be appreciated.
    example: www.reapergym.com/index3.html
    Many thanks,

    Hi there,
It must have been an issue directly associated with the SWF object.
As the background was mostly grey, it did not present itself as the main issue other forums have discussed as being the "dreaded grey line around swf file".
Upon closer inspection, it was there - a 1 pixel border only showing in FF.
I followed the SWFobject solution by adding a small bit of Javascript and it vanished and looks fine.
    http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/
Thats probably why it looks OK now!
Thank you for your response, as it could have been something that I could have searched forever to solve.
Another case of the infamous grey border solved.....

  • Dual monitor setup with seperate resolutions

    hey guys!
i currentley run thye latest version of archlinux with the cinnamon desktop environment and an nvidia geforce 7300SE graphics card.
im running a dual monitor setup with one 27" 1920x1080 monitor and one 27" 1024X768 monitor
because they have the same physical size they line up perfectley but because the resolution is different programs/mouse cursor movement doesnt, is there any way (without changing the resolutions) to compensate this effect so that in the eyes of linux/cinnamon the monitors line up so that for example dragging a window goes seamlessley between the 2 monitors.
i HAVE found out the panning option in the nvidia x server settings, but that really isnt what i am looking for...

A magnifier following the window down to the pixel, zooming to the exact size of 540 pixels the 384 pixels window could create an illusion of just that. It would be highly impractical however, not mention all the hacking time. Even if you would manage to get two screen with different sized icons, so that they match visually, the windows and fonts resizing on the fly, wmctrl might help with windows alone, no their themes (buttons, borders thickness etc.), you would still be left with a visually differently sized mouse cursor. Technically such a feat should be possible, but who is going to code it? Nvidia?

  • Can't listen live to line

I used to have a PCMCIA SB card on my laptop that I connected my XM to the line in and my headphones to the line out. Worked great for listening to my XM at work. When it finally bit the dust, I got a XFi USB. Now I am unable to duplicate what I had. I have went through all the Windows XP settings and Creative Console settings and can't make it happen.
The odd thing is that I can record off of the XM, then play it back, so I know I am getting input, but I just can't listen to it li've.

Issue resolved. I upgraded to the latest Creative Console Launcher, went in?Entertainment Mode and checked the block to monitor Line In. That option was not available in the CD version of the app.

  • The nightmare of shopping for a new monitor.

First, I apologize if this has been asked before however Ive been searching the internet and on the Pshop forum and cant seem to find solid info.
The monitor will be used primarily for still image color correction in Photoshop (Im still using CS2) such as would be standard in the advertising industry.
I bought a used LaCie Electron Blue 22 IV (a CRT monitor) about 2.5 years ago and I have been pleased with it, but my OPTIX-XR calibration system claims the monitor now is outside calibration parameters [I suppose the CRT phosphors or whatever the heck they are, are burning out?]. The result is I can no longer get the monitor correctly calibrated and I am loosing shadow detail.
I want to replace this with a 23+/- LCD and $1000 is my target budget.
When I last went through the research 2.5 years ago (I dread going through this again) reliable info was very hard to come by and everything seemed to be up in the air as LCD technology was evolving. I bought a DELL (forgot the model#, but it used it same Philips LCD panel as the Apple Cinema but cost less), but he DELL had brightness uniformity issues so I sent it back.
I lucked out and found the used CRT locally (for about $200) which rescued me.
What are the current market options?
Ive read where the La Cie 324 is recommended as a solid budget solution for color correction work. Can anyone share their experience with this monitor?
Ive always read mixed assessments of the Apple Cinema Display, but it is still an option.
Any other monitors on the market I should know about in my price range?
Additionally, if anyone can point me to respected online reviews which have real substance it would be a huge help.
Thanks a bunch for any input.
    -Lovegasoline

Thanks for all the well considered replies.
So, there is a dividing line here it seems. Perhaps wide-gamut is a relative term without an objective reference and is being thrown around too loosely (i.e. marketing teams)?
The idea that only LED is wide gamut further confuses things. But, I can understand the point being made...and perhaps the terms has been applied too loosely?
Apple's monitor line hasn't been updated for a while and rumors abound about a new generation of Apple LED monitors. Even speaking of vaporwear, I imagine the first gen will be pricey as are all other LED monitors on the market. Maybe the price will come down if it is marketed widely...but this is all speculation at this point. I could get a smaller (maybe used) Apple Cinema Display to tide me over and see what the market brings in the next 6 months. But I think LED monitors will just be out of my price range.
The other issue and I suppose this goes for the 'almost' wide gamut monitors as well, like the NEC 2690/2490, is the limitations in Apple's computer hardware & Pshop to really take advantage of true wide gamut monitors. A few years back Karl Lang wrote the an article about this. I'm a little lost in the technicalities and have not kept abreast of them, so I have to ask, has the hardware/software evolved since then to accommodate the monitor technology?:
    http://www.outbackphoto.com/tforum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=1700
"A wide gamut LCD display is not a good thing for most (95%) of high
end users. The data that leaves your graphic card and travels over the
DVI cable is 8 bit per component. You can't change this. The OS, ICC
CMMs, the graphic card, the DVI spec, and Photoshop will all have to be
upgraded before this will change and that's going to take a while. What
does this mean to you? It means that when you send RGB data to a wide
gamut display the colorimetric distance between any two colors is much
larger. As an example, lets say you have two adjacent color patches one
is 230,240,200 and the patch next to it is 230,241,200. On a standard
LCD or CRT those two colors may be around .8 Delta E apart. On an Adobe
RGB display those colors might be 2 Delta E apart on an ECI RGB display
this could be as high as 4 delta E.
It's very nice to be able to display all kinds of saturated colors you
may never use in your photographs, however if the smallest visible
adjustment you can make to a skin tone is 4 delta E you will become
    very frustrated very quickly.
    ...and...
Only the Eizo 210, 220 and NEC2180WG have 8-10-10 paths. If you really
want to know... the path in the Eizo is "8-14bit3D-8-10bit1D-10" go
figure that one out ;-) The 2180WG has an actual 10 bit DVI interface
with a 10-10-10 path but nothing supports it so you can't use it yet -
but for $6500 your ready when it does ;-)"
Any comments on that? I certainly do not want this to evolve into a dissertation : )
Real world, is the NEC 2490/2690 worth the price?
Still gathering opinions, so keep any ideas/recs coming if you have them.
    Thanks again,
    Lovegasoline

    button
To associate ephone-dns with individual buttons on a Cisco Unified IP phone and to specify line type or ring behavior, use the button command in ephone configuration mode. To remove an ephone-dn association from a button, use the no form of this command.
    button button-number {separator} dn-tag [,dn-tag...] [button-number{x}overlay-button-number] [button-number...]
    no button button-number {separator} dn-tag [,dn-tag...] [button-number{x}overlay-button-number] [button-number...]
    Syntax Description
    button-number
Number of a line button on a Cisco Unified IP phone that is to be associated with an extension (ephone-dn). The maximum number of button-ephone-dn pairs is determined by the phone type. Note The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7910G has only one physical line button, but you can assign it two button-ephone-dn pairs.
    separator
Single character that denotes the characteristics to be associated with this phone button. Valid entries are as follows: •: (colon)—Normal ring. For incoming calls on this extension, the phone produces audible ringing, a flashing icon in the phone display, and a flashing red light on the handset. On the Cisco IP Phone 7914 Expansion Module, a flashing yellow light also accompanies incoming calls. •b—Beep but no ring. Audible ring is suppressed for incoming calls, but call-waiting beeps are allowed. Visible cues are the same as those described for a normal ring. •c—Call waiting. Provides call waiting for secondary calls to an overlaid ephone-dn. See also the o keyword. •f—Feature ring. Differentiates incoming calls on a special line from incoming calls on other lines on the phone. The feature-ring cadence is a triple pulse, as opposed to a single pulse for normal internal calls and a double pulse for normal external calls.
•m—Monitor mode for a shared line. Visible line status indicates whether the line is in-use or not. Monitored lines cannot be used on this phone for incoming or outgoing calls. •o—Overlay line. Multiple ephone-dns share a single button, up to a maximum of 25 on a button. See also the c keyword. •s—Silent ring. Audible ring and call-waiting beep are suppressed for incoming calls. The only visible cue is a flashing ((< icon in the phone display. Note In Cisco IOS Release 12.4(4)XC and later releases, the silent ringing behavior is overridden during active night-service periods. Silent ringing does not apply during designated night-service periods when the s keyword is used. •w—Watch mode for all lines on the phone for which this directory number is the primary line. Visible line status indicates whether watched phone is idle or not.
    dn-tag
Ephone-dn tag that was previously defined using the ephone-dn command. When used with the c and o keywords, the dn-tag argument can contain up to 25 individual dn-tags, separated by commas.
    x
Separator that creates an overlay rollover button. When the overlay button specified in this command is occupied by an active call, a second call to one of its ephone-dns will appear on this button. This button is also known as an overlay expansion button.
    overlay-button-number
Number of the overlay button that should overflow to this button.

  • Pink lines

I plugged my ipod touch into my computer and it went to the regular startup screen but it soon went to some wierd pink lines going across it. Soon after that, some orange and blue lines started to appear. They scroll across the screen in vertical lines. I cannot turn the ipod off and itunes is not recognizing it as being plugged in. I tried unplugging it from my computer and it doesn't respond to it. I am not sure how to fix it.
Here is a picture of what it looks like: http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq180/tye8244/IMG1533.jpg?t=1259792157
