Wierd process chain in BI 2004s(SP 18)

Dear Experts,
The following is our process chain design.
Process chain A contain process chain A1
Process chain B contain process chain B1
Process chain Z contain process chain A then B (Must serial!!)
A1 and B1 have 3 object : StartinfopackageDTP (The connection type is "ALWAYS")
Every object in A1,B1 has their own message (We click the "Express mail" in recipient tab).
Questions 1 :
We faced a problem when A1's infopackage failed with red light.
Although the connection between Infopackage ad DTP is "ALWAYS", the process hangs.
So process chain B is being waiting until user repeat or repair the A1's infopackge.
Notes: the situation doesn't always happen.
Question 2 :
We expect to get mail When A1's infopackge failed.
But if the situation in Q1 happened, we can't get the mail.
We must monitor the log of the process chain A1 and then SAPBI pops up a message screen.
The message is about alerting : "Process chain status is changed".
Until clicking YES we can receive the E-mail.
Does anyone have idea or solution related to them?
p.s It always happens when BI and ERP connection failed or infopackage wait until timeout.

Hi,
Questions 1 :
We faced a problem when A1's infopackage failed with red light.
Although the connection between Infopackage ad DTP is "ALWAYS", the process hangs.
So process chain B is being waiting until user repeat or repair the A1's infopackge.
Notes: the situation doesn't always happen.
Ans:
Any process type will be triggered in the process chain based on predecessor success / failure status only. DTP is not triggered might be due to Waiting Time Up to Status Incorrect(in Load monitor -->Settings) is very less time .So try to change Waiting Time Up to Status Incorrect is more like Hours 5 or Days 1 .
Ans:
Did you add the Process chain message alerts to every process or all the process types add the OR process for Errors and add the message to OR process . Try set all settings in messaging system of process chain.
Regards,
Krishna.

• How to test Process chain in BW

Hi Guys,
Can U give me some introduction to Process chains and how to test it in BW 3.5
Thanks for Ur time.

Hi,
A process chain is a defined sequence of interdependent processes required to perform acomplex task in an SAPBW environment. Data maintenance tasks in SAPBW are notrestricted to uploading data. Aggregate rollups, index maintenance, master data and ODS activation, and a variety of other jobs are required to update data, guarantee best-possible performance, and maintain data integrity. Typical SAPBW implementa-tions have complex interdependent networks of jobs in place that run every night, week,or month.Previous releases of SAPBW did not provide an integrated solution for scheduling and monitoring those kinds of job networks. This has changed with the introduction of process chains in release 3.0. Process chains allow you to define complex job networks consisting of standard SAPBW jobs, as well as custom jobs; they support visualizing the job network and centrally controlling and monitoring the processes.

Testing
We need to test the PC chains.
You need to test if the extractions are working fine, data is getting loaded into targets, post load activities like activation, rollup, compression etc are successfull etc.
We schedule / trigger the chains and monitor them. We ensure that all the process types are happening successfully.
One major area we concentrate on is to identify dependcies in the chain. This will ensure less erros and also reduce chain timings by a great extend. Dependencies should be kept to a minimum whereever possible.
Also in cases where we use events/third party shceduling tools to trigger BW chains we check that out.

• Process Chain statistics (new stats in 2004s)

Hi,
We have activated and are loading all stats (new ones) for 2004s. We are checking the stats through the portal. We have many stats showing in the default web templates used in the portal to display stats. Process Chain stats are the only ones showing no data...which can't be true because we have only been loading with process chains.
Where do you "activate" stats for Process chains themselves? I am aware of RSPC_API_CHAIN_GET_STATUS, but it appears with 2004s, delivered is a process chain statistics?
Thanks, Mark.

For data-load statistics of process chains and processes:
use 0TCT_C21, 0TCT_VC21 and 0TCT_MC21
For more Insights -
The new InfoProviders are:
For more highly aggregated query-runtime statistics:
0TCT_C01, 0TCT_VC01 and 0TCT_MC01
These replace InfoCube 0BWTC_C02.
For more detailed query-runtime statistics:
0TCT_C02, 0TCT_VC02 and 0TCT_MC02
These replace InfoCube 0BWTC_C02.
For data manager statistics:
0TCT_C03, 0TCT_VC03 and 0TCT_MC03
These replace InfoCube 0BWTC_C03.
For data-load statistics of process chains and processes:
0TCT_C21, 0TCT_VC21 and 0TCT_MC21
For data-load statistics of data transfer processes:
0TCT_C22, 0TCT_VC22 and 0TCT_MC22
For data-load statistics of InfoPackages:
0TCT_C23, 0TCT_VC23 and 0TCT_MC23
These deliver essentially the same information as InfoCube 0BWTC_C05 but they use the new InfoObjects. The remaining new InfoProviders also use the new InfoObjects.
For the current data-load status of process chains and processes:
0TCT_VC11 and 0TCT_MC11
For the current status of requests loaded to InfoProviders, InfoObjects that have been updated flexibly, and PSA tables:
0TCT_VC11 and 0TCT_MC11
Hope it Helps

• Interrupt process chain 2004s

Hi,
We are using three process chains which trigger events at the end of them those events triggered by them get collected in event collector in BI 3.5 (RSA1->Tools->Eventcollector).After collecting all the events event collector triggers the process chain. In 2004s this feature is not there. They have added the concept of interupt process.I don't know how to use it.Please help me
Thanks in advance!

Hi ,
ebent collcetor is still in BI7.0 the feature is not there but you can check it thoruhg RSA1 OLD transactiona and program se38 >>> RSABW_NEW_START ..
This Process type helps for interrupting the processing of a process chain up to the point at which a condition is filled.
if a process chain is only processed either in part or in its entirity if more than one start condition is filled, you use this process type to specify the additional conditions.
The chain is started when the condition of the start process is filled. However, the interrupt process will interupt the processing of the chain (as long as its status is "active") up until the point at which the condition of the interrupt process is filled. Should the start process condition be filled again before the interupt process condition is filled, the chain will start again and will only run up until the point of interruption. As soon as the interrupt process condition is filled, the system continues the last run of the chain only. The earlier runs remain unchanged.
interrupt is kind of a waiting time thing like we add in an infopackage or in a process chain ..it can also be event based or time based ..
Go to the display varaint of it .. you will find wether its event based or time based ..if the event is the check that event in se16 >> RSPCchain >>> put the event in process varaint .. you wil find from were the event is coming .. it will give you the porgram name also and the corressponding process chain too ..
regards,
shikha

• Authorization for Process Chains in BW 3.5 (2004)

Hi all,
I wanted to know if there is any way to limit actions on process chains. I would like to give some users display only access to process chains. Is that possible?
Thanks

Hi,
In your system go to
'Transport Connection' tool-->
Click on 'Object Changeability' pushbutton-->
And for Object types RSPC and ISIP make "changeable/Not Changable" .
Note: This will work only if your system is lockect aganist the changes as it is normally in Production.

• BPM Process chain takes long time to process

We have BI7, Netweaver 2004s on Oracle and SUN Solaris
There is a process chain (BPM) which pulls data from the CRM system into BW. The scheduled time to run this chain is 0034 hrs. This chain should ideally complete before / around 0830 Hrs. Now the problem is that every alternate day this chain behaves normally and gets completed well before 0830 hrs but every alternate day this chain fails… there are almost 40 chains running daily. Some are event triggered (dependent with each other) or some run in parallel. In this, (BPM) process chain, usually there are 5 requests with 3 Delta and 2 full uploads (Master Data). The delta uploads finishes in 30 minutes without any issues with very few record transfers. The first full upload is from 0034 hrs to approximately 0130 hrs and the 2nd upload is from 0130 hrs to 0230 hrs. Now if the 1st upload gets delayed then the people who are initiating these chains, stop the 2nd full upload and continue it after all the process chains are completed. Now this entire BPM process chain sometimes takes 17 -18 hrs to complete!!!!!
No other loads in CRM or BW when these process chains are running
CRM has background jobs to push IDOCS to BW which run every 2 minutes which runs successfully
Yesterday this chain got completed successfully (well within stipulated time) with over 33,00,000 records transferred but sometimes it has failed to transfer even 12,00,000 records!!
Attaching a zip file, please refer the “21 to 26 Analysis screen shot.doc” from the zip file
Within the zip file, attaching “Normal timings of daily process chains.xls” – the name explains it….
Also within the zip file refer “BPM Infoprovider and data source screen shot.doc” please refer this file as the infopackage (page 2) which was used in the process chain is not displayed later on in page number 6 BUT CHAIN GOT SUCESSFULLY COMPLETED
We have analyzed:--
1) The PSA data for BPM process chain for past few days
2) The info providers for BPM process chain for past few days
3) The ODS entries for BPM process chain for past few days
4) The point of failure of BPM process chain for past few days
5) The overall performance of all the process chains for past few days
6) The number of requests in BW for this process chain
7) The load on CRM system for past few days when this process chain ran on BW system
As per our analysis, there are couple of things which can be fixed in the BW system:--
1) The partner agreement (transaction WE20) defined for the partner LS/BP3CLNT475 mentions both message types RSSEND and RSINFO: -- collect IDOCs and pack size = 1 Since the pack size = 1 will generate 1 TRFC call per IDOC, it should be changed to 10 so that less number of TRFCs will be generated thus less overhead for the BW server resulting in the increase in performance
2) In the definition of destination for the concerned RFC in BW (SM59), the “Technical Setting” tab says the “Load balancing” option = “No”. We are planning to make it “Yes”
But we believe that though these changes will bring some increase in performance, this is not the root cause of the abnormal behavior of this chain as this chain runs successfully on every alternate day with approximately the same amount of load in it.
I was not able to attach the many screen shots or the info which I had gathered during my analysis. Please advice how do I attach these files
Best Regards,

Hi,
Normally index creation or deletion can take long time in case your database statistics are not updated properly, so can check stat after your data loading is completed and index generation is done, Do creation of database statistics.
Then try to recheck ...

• The 0co_om_opa_6 ip in the process chains takes long time to run

Hi experts,
The 0co_om_opa_6 ip in the process chains takes long time to run around 5 hours in production
I have checked the note 382329,
-> where the indexes 1 and 4 are active
-> index 4 was not "Index does not exist in database system ORACLE"- i have assgined to " Indexes on all database systems and ran the delta load in development system, but guess there are not much data in dev it took 2-1/2 hrs to run as it was taking earlier. so didnt find much differnce in performance.
As per the note Note 549552 - CO line item extractors: performance, i have checked in the table BWOM_SETTINGS these are the settings that are there in the ECC system.
-> OLTPSOURCE -  is blank
PARAM_NAME - OBJSELSIZE
PARAM_VALUE- is blank
-> OLTPSOURCE - is blank
PARAM_NAME - NOTSSELECT
PARAM_VALUE- is blank
-> OLTPSOURCE- 0CO_OM_OPA_6
PARAM_NAME - NOBLOCKING
PARAM_VALUE- is blank.
Could you please check if any other settings needs to be done .
Also for the IP there is selction criteris for FISCALYEAR/PERIOD from 2004-2099, also an inti is done for the same period as a result it becoming difficult for me to load for a single year.
Please suggest.

The problem was the index 4 was not active in the database level..it was recommended by the SAP team to activate it in se14..however while doing so we face few issues se14 is a very sensitive transaction should be handled carefully ... it should be activate not created.
The OBJSELSIZE in the table BWOM_SETTINGS has to be Marked 'X' to improve the quality as well as the indexe 4 should be activate at the abap level i.e in the table COEP -> INDEXES-> INDEX 4 -> Select the u201Cindex on all database systemu201D in place of u201CNo database indexu201D, once it is activated in the table abap level you can activate the same indexes in the database level.
Be very carefull while you execute it in se14 best is to use db02 to do the same , basis tend to make less mistake there.
Thanks Hope this helps ..

• How to schedule Process Chain with Full Update for the past closed month

Hello,
I have an HR-BN benefits transactional data extractor - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/08/b01d3cf8aa101ce10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
One of the selection fields for that extractor is calendar year/month 0CALMONTH and it is a full update extractor.
SAP recommends running this extractor once a month after the month has been closed.
If I were to include this update/extract into my process chain, would it be possible to automate the process in a way where the process chain is scheduled to execute once a month (I know how to do that), but that also only pulls values for the past/closed CALMONTH (as if it had a variable value of which would be automatically set to the last closed month when pchain is run)? As I mentioned 0CALMONTH is one of the selection criterias in the infopackage for that extractor.
let me know how I might be able to do that.
P.S. we are on BI 7.0/2004s
Thank you

For Calmonth selection in infopackage you can use the SAP-Exit OLAP Variable 0CMLMON (Last Month)
select Type "7" ("OLAP Variable")
and in Details of Type screen, Select OLAP Variable "0CMLMON" Which is SAP-Exit variable for Calmonth, that returns the last month from the current system-date.
If variable 0CMLMON is not active, you need to activate it from Business content.

• Process Chain Priority Schedule in 3.5

Hi Gurus,
Is it possible to schedule jobs with a priority A, B, C like in Netweaver 2004s? If yes, how and where? I have a meta-chain which I scheduled with time and running daily. It is perfectly working fine. However, I am just interested to know if there is a functionality in 3.5 like in Netweaver 2004s that when you schedule it will give you a choice for Priority A, B or C.
Your answers are highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
If you choose to schedule the chain directly, enter the start date value for the chain under Change Selections and save your entries.
The Maintain Start Process screen appears again
Creating a Process Chain Using the Maintenance Dialog for a Process
You are in the maintenance dialog of a process that you want to include in a process chain.
1. Choose the Process Chain Maintenance pushbutton and create a process variant.
2. Save the variant and go back to the previous screen.
A dialog window appears in which you enter a technical name and a description of the chain that you want to create.
3. Confirm your entries.
The Add Start Process dialog window appears.
4. Create a variant for a start process.
a. On the Maintain Start Process screen, choose whether you want to schedule the chain directly or whether you want to start it using a metachain.
b. If you choose to schedule the chain directly, enter the start date value for the chain under Change Selections and save your entries.
The Maintain Start Process screen appears again.
c. Save your entries, return to the previous screen and confirm your entries in the Add Start Process dialog window.
You are taken to the Plan View of the process chain maintenance screen.
The various process categories, the application processes, and collection processes are displayed in the left-hand area of the screen. In the right-hand area of the screen, the process chain is displayed

• How to redirect loading flow in process chain based on logic?

Hi Experts,
I have a scenario where I want to keep data for last 3 years in 3 different cubes.e.g. lets say cube 1 holds data for current 2006 year, cube 2 holds 2005 and cube 3 holds 2004.Now in next year 2007, I want to keep data for 2007, 2006 and 2005.I want to keep data for 2007 in cube 3 which was holding 2004 data.(delete 2004 data and load 2007).
This process should be automated i.e. which cube to load should be done auto.In short, data for new cube should go into cube which is holding data for oldest year.
I want to know :
1) Which Options I can use to do this?
2) What about ABAP program : custom table can be maintained to know which cube is holding what data, but how to redirect loading flow?
3) What about "Decision process type" in process chain?
4) Also would custom process type solve this functionality?
Any ideas would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Sorabh,
Its just an Idea, Im assuming that this would work. This should also work for INIT DELTA I guess. But would need proper testing.
Have a Custom Table ZCUBEYEAR and maintain the CUBE as the Key.
ZCUBEYEAR
CUBE YEAR
Y1 2004
Y2 2005
Y3 2006.
In the update rule->Start Routine for Cube Y1, extract this entry from the table ZCUBEYEAR for Y1, which in this case would be 2004.
DELETE DATA_PACKAGE WHERE YEAR NE YEARFORCUBEY1.
in our case YEARFORCUBEY1 = 2004.
For cube Y2 and Y3 the Delete statement would be as follows in their Start Routines.
DELETE DATA_PACKAGE WHERE YEAR NE YEARFORCUBEY2.
DELETE DATA_PACKAGE WHERE YEAR NE YEARFORCUBEY3.
This would ensure that only 2004 data would flow to Y1, 2005 for Y2 and 2006 for Y3.
Once we come to a NEW YEAR, We need to run a program or Manually change the CUSTOM TABLE "ZCUBEYEAR" updating the cube Y1 with 2007, the Deltas would flow correctly.
Please email me at [email protected], we could have a detailed discussion.
Hope the above helps your cause.
Regards,
Praveen.
