Wierd SB Audigy2 EX Platinum problem

Hello folks,
This is my first post here... I've done a search for the problem I'm about to relay to you all with no comparable results and also looked through any FAQ posts I've found to no avail.
Here's the problem:
A couple months ago I updated my SB drivers to the latest version. Since then my machine will restart if/when I change the volume level using the volume pot on the external control unit.
That's right, the machine reboots as if I had told WinXp to 'Restart'. It happens no matter what application I'm running at the time and sometimes will happen right after I boot up the machine if I change the volume then.
I've been trying to track the problem but it really is random...basically it happens when I move the volume pot at least one increment in either direction.
It's very strange and doesn't happen every time I physically change the volume level.
One thought I had was that it had something to do with the Beta version for the latest drivers because I had installed those first.
When I look at the device properties for the card it tells me that the driver is the beta one but when I try to do the auto-update OR if I download and manually install the most current driver it tells me that the drivers are already current and does not bother to update anything.
Anyways, this problem is bot mildly frustrating and amusing, and ultimately I'd just like to fix it so it doesn't happen anymore.
Anyone have any suggestions or pointers to other threads about this issue?
Thanks,
NDG

Hi, this is also my first post, i just thought i would bump this,
I am having exactly the same problem! not everytime, but often, when i ajust the volume using the pot on the front it restarts, like i pressed the restart button......just cuts out. My specs are as follows:
ASUS P5P-800 Ai Proacti've mobo
ATI radeon 9550
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS platnium Pro
Windows XP sp2
Intel Celron D 2.8 CPU
Any help would be greatly apprecitd by me, and i'm sure to 'NDG' thanks.

  • At a loss: Audigy2 ZS Platinum & Klipsch DD5.1 connection prob

I have read many forums, posts, etc. related to SPDIF, optical and digital out connection between Audigy2 ZS Platinum and Klipsch DD5. decoder and can't find a solution to my problem. I would like to play MP3's stereo x2 or 5. through my DD5. connected to Klipsch Promedia 5. speakers, all I can get is front L and R with nothing coming from the rear speaker. I have tried each of the three digital outputs, I have set SPDIF passthrough, digital output only, 5. as well as 2/2. speaker settings, and have toggled Enable CMSS 3D in the EAX console, also have Prologic enabled on the DD5. with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions? When the Promedia's are connected to the analog connections on the Audigy2 they sound great, MP3's through all speakers with CMSS 3D enabled, but I am using the Klipsch DD5. connected to my T.V., DVD etc. as my home theatre and would like to connect my PC this way as well. I have tried 3.5mm splitter on the back of the speakers and connected to the Audigy2 as well as the DD5. but this seems to cause a significant hum, interference etc. Any ideas?

    Saku746,
What you are experiencing is normal for Digital connection such as coaxial/optical. You can get more information from the article at knowledgebase.
    http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=2&sid=5764
Check your speaker whether it support Dolby Pro Logic II or other upmix matrix. If it does, then you can enable that to provide matrix of 5. to the speaker.

Yes you can. If you're sure that your existing I/O dri've bay isn't faulty, you can purchase an Audigy 2 ZS card to work with the I/O bay.

  • DKA789GX Platinum problems?

Okay so I got a new antec 900 case with a DKA390GX platinum mainboard, an AMD Phenom X4 Processor (2.6 ghz quad core), 250GB Sata HD, and SATA dvd burner, and a 9800 GT video card, and a 550W power supply
I got all these today, ive spent about an hour on putting it together.  I didn't see with my material of the motherboard, the case, cpu or anything explicit directions on hooking it up so who knows if i've done it correctly.
so I'm done with the setup, so i plug it in, hook my wireless mouse/keyboard up, hook my monitor up and power it on.  all the fans come on, so i open the cd drive and put my Windows XP Pro 64 in to the drive, the system recognizes the CD, it starts it's process...
    computer shuts off.
It's been like that for a while (luckily I still have my current pc all put together).  I can't figure out why it's shutting itself off.. any help...
Out of the box the only things I have left are:
both of the GPU crossfire link cards.
all 6 of those funky looking pin things (couldnt see where they go)
    2 sata cables
    2 eide cables
and 2 of the power converters (the old power for EIDE, to the new for SATA)
    Any help appreciated!

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • K9N Platinum Problem

    Hello,
I have a K9N Platinum 7250-020 and I read from a different forum to make a new thread about the shutdown issues since it said it wasn't affected. Funny thing is, I'm getting the same exact problem.
    My specs:
CPU: AM2 4200+ (2.4ghz, memory is not overclocked because of the odd multiplier)
Motherboard: K9N Platinum bios 1.2 (tried several of them and they are all buggy!)
    PSU: CoolerMaster iGreen series 500watt
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2gb ddr2 800
    Videocard: ATi x1950pro
    Soundcard: Creative Audigy Platinum
    Symptoms:
I will be listening to music thru winamp and then when I am installing a program it completely shuts off during the middle of installation.
I tried installing a game once from the cd-rom and then it immediately shuts down.
The funny thing of all of this, I never got a blue screen. So I know it can not be because of my Overclocking.
So thanks for reading, please repost if you have anything to report. I don't know when MSI will come out with bios 1.4 for this. I'm so angry...I do not know whether to return this or not. It would have to be through MSI..so yeah. Thanks again!

    Well...this is weird..
Yeah I tried underclocking the bus (now keep in mind I have a AM2, 4200+, and it has an odd multiplier of 11x. Because of this the bus has to compensate with the memory, running at ddr2 800, by running it slightly lower. So if I were to run the bus at 200 MHz, then the memory would be around 366mhz. Thus, that leaves me some head room of overclocking just the CPU since the ram is specified to run at 400mhz.). It didn't help. So since I was running bios version 1.10, I though, "hey..why not update." And so I did to the latest. To my surprise the update description includes: -Improve memory compatibility. Funny, huh?
With that said, I updated and had the settings to what they're specified from Crucial for latency. Then I overclocked to 218 MHz. Thus, resulting a speed about 399.2 MHz for the memory. And to this very moment that I have been running two instances of Prime95, it has yet to come up with a fatal error.
Now like you said, BOSSKILLER, I checked the cpu temperature (with bios version 1.10) and it said like around 40C. Although, once I flashed to the latest version (with it being stable using via Prime95), now the cpu temp in the bios says something around -42C. And it gets better. Since I'm using 64 bit, MSI doesn't have their core center working for 64 bit (to my knowledge). So I decided to see what Everest Ultimate ed. would say. And here is the kicker. It gives a more logical reading for the CPU temp...+39C!
So yeah...lol.... It is working fine and dandy right now! But ehh...in the bios the auto-fan control wont work because the bios sees the cpu temp being negative and so the fan control wont adjust to it.
Anyway, thanks for helping me out again, BK!  It's real nice having someone well...I don't know how to say exactly, but its just nice having someone to go to about my problems!
    Thanks again!!!
P.S. Sorry about the long essay!  :D

Manually set the memory clock speed to DDR3-1066 for testing and see what happens.

I was so excited to get this up and running and start producing and remixing music. So I installed everything that I use in software. I was so chuffed everything was going smoothly especially when installing drivers. Computer does more than a few restarts without a problem. Everything is installed I am happy. So I turn off the computer for a long period of time, for example a overnight sleep. But Here is where I start to face the nightmare I have been experiencing until today when I find out what is the culprit for my nightmare. I found that the computer on a start up, after being switched off for a long period of time caused me so much problems and I have reformatted my computer 42 times now. Why you may ask well I was trying to find out why the computer was missing files and making these horrible blue sceen problems. I actually thought it was a software compatibily problem but I could not get over this issue as my other computer has everything installed that I use too. Any way bit by bit I installed software and still found that when the computer is switched of for a long period of times that the blue screen and missing files still occurs. This has also been tested on the following os like win xp with sp and with and without sp2 and win xp media center edition and home edition. By this time i was getting very tired and sad, but I still had the patients to carry on and try and try and try and try again with many different ideas.
Until last night I decided just to install xp on it's own with no drivers nothing but all hardware connected, then I left it switched off and went to my gig to DJ. On my return I turned on the computer to face the same problems as before, now this got me really mad and I guessed to myself this has to be hard ware problem. So what do I do next well I remove Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro 7. from the tower and reformatted the computer once more.
Guess what the problems I had been facing has dissapeared, I could not belei've this at all, Now I feel that this has been such a waste of time for me and money spent on this Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro 7. cause it does not want to work. Now All i wish for is some help or info.
Has any other people had simular experience as me, is there a fix for this sort of problem or a patch. Please please please can you help, I have done alot of searches too on google about this and came up with nothing, except on certain forums that creative don't really have a good support on problem issues, I just hope you can prove me wrong even with a nice reply...
So now I have to go with the onboard sound card on the motherboard, but I really want to use my new Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro 7......

Well what can I say I took your advise from the both of you very seriously and with curiosity. So I opened up my tower and re-inserted the sound card with prayers to my thoughts.
I went to bios and disabled the onboard sound controller part of the motherboard as instructed and use a different pci slot.
Well all is looking good so far as I have had everything working well including the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro 7.. but the real test will be tomorrow when i switch of the computer and turn it on tomorrow, but I do have that good feeling so far as I have had the computer on all day with Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS Platinum Pro 7. running nicely and there has been several restarts as I have been updating the bios on the motherboard and graphics card.
As I said before the real test will be tomorrow when i turn on the computer as then it will have been off for a period of time and starting up the computer will see if your assesment was correct. But all I can say is a huge thank you and appreciation for you help and suggestion in helping me overcome my small headache hehehe.
I will surely let you know also when I turn on the computer tomorrow and the results, if all is well then I will hug you both surely too hehehe.
one small thing though before I sign off here. I thought that you could run to soundcards at the same time on a pc with no conflictions. If I am wrong then so be it but not to worry, just that I do a lot of music production and remixing as certain programs have the option of 2 sound cards....
Well until tomorrow I will reply again
    thanx again

  • MSI neo2 platinum problem, forced to reset BIOS everytime I turn on the PSU

I just got my neo2 platinum mobo. Everytime I switch it ON all the led's at the back (diagnostic) turn red/orange and never turn green.
I have to reset the bios everytime to get it to post successfully. (bios is the original bios, no flashes done)
    Processor: 3000+ (939)
Anyone else have this problem? what causes it?
[update] the bios version is 1.3 which is the latest on the msi website
    System Specs..
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm (socket 939)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    1 GB Kingston HyperX DDR 400 CS2
    SBlive
    Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB MEM
    Logitech MX510
1x80GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
1x120GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
    Lite-On 48x CD-RW
    NEC 16X DVD RW Drive
RAIDMAX Black Aluminum Gaming Case with 6 case fans and 420W PSU

I think the power supply may be the problem
Once you reset the bios you don't need the amps to spin up the drives, as they are already spinning, saving you about 3 amps I bet. If the newer bios doesn't help, try unplugging half those case fans, the non boot drive, and take the cd's out of you optical drives so they dont spin up, then try cold booting your box a couple times. If it works you know you need a new power supply.
If it doesn't perhaps you've got a grounding problem? Are you positive that nothing metal is touching your motherboard where it shouldn't? If that isn't it, Id  assume the cmos never really clears, and then take the battery out of the motherboard for a good hour while the power supply is unplugged, then give it another shot. I've seen a bunch of DFI boards do weird stuff like that before, the exact same thing actually. Nvidia has a few odd issues with the nforce chipsets and the cmos.
Oh, since you asked, 3000+ is 1.8 ghz. It will probably run at 2.4ghz easy (1.4 volts), thats a 90nm chip

  • Vista x64 / Logitech Orbit MP / XFi Platinum problem confirmed... PLEASE RE

I was wondering why my 7. option disappeared from my speakers configuration option. Turns out another person had the same issue with his computer and found out that unplugging his Orbit MP fixed the problem. (It was limiting his sound to 5.) Well I had the same configuration but took it a step further to disable the Logitech Orbit recording device in device manager.Problem solved! Im not sure if this is a Vista, a CL, or Logitech problem. I figure I'd throw this out there to let everyone know. Problem reproduced with: XFi Platinum w/ optical out going to external receiver 7.Logitech .5 Quickcam DriversXFi 2_5_0004 drivers (the newest ones) Would like to hear everyone else's comments on this. Thanks.

It's funny how some people say you can enable 5. with vista 64 using alchemy but for 10 days now I have yet to get a response.

  • X38 Platinum: Problem with CPU detection

    Hi everybody,
I've got a little problem with my newly acquired x38/platinum...
I'm currently assembling a new PC on my own... So far all the component have been plugged-in EXCEPT the memory modules (I haven't purchased them yet).
Despite this complete lack of memory, I try to test the correct boot-up of the system.
And then the following problem occurs: the "lcd post" display hang on "CPU" (before rebooting indefinitely)... Not "DRAM" as expected...
The CPU is a Core 2 Quad, and is correctly powered with a 8-pin/12v connector. The CPU-Fan is powered from the correct on-board pins (cpufan). The speakers are plugged, but no specific "beep" are emitted.
One possible mistake I've made: the CPU-Fan is not fully plugged with the 4 "screws": i only (and hardly) manage to clip 2 of them, I'm afraid of breaking the board if y try too hard with the two others.
Could this problem be caused by the absence of DRAM? Or more likely by the the fact that the Fan is not fully clipped? By the way, is that normal that the CPU Fan is so Hard to plug correctly?
Any comments or idea would be greatly appreciated
Thanks (and sorry for the approximate english)
    MH.

mhz42, please provide full system specs.  Otherwise it is very hard to help you with your problem.  What brand and type of memory are you using?  What other components are part of your system configuration?
The mb is a x38 platinum 1333. The proc is a quad core qx8650, 1333fsb. The hd (western digital caviar) and optical drive (lg h66n) are both on sata and plugged. The memory used is 2go Kingston ddr3 1375mhz... (plugged in DIMM 1/2).
Anyway, I frankly doubt that the problem could come from anywhere else than the cpu (considering the post message)...

    What PSU are you using?
    A seasonic M12-500w... brand new...

Did you properly plug in ALL power connectors?
The powering should be ok... (the MB, the proc, the cpufan and the graphic card are plugged) The processor seems to be correctly powered, if it was not the case, the post process wouldn't even start (tested)...
    Quote from: Aaron Yuri
You could just buy a cheap Pentium 4 and flash it with that.
That's an idea. Or i could directly ship the mb back to msi and thell them to do it themself... After all the spec says cleary "quad core compatible"...
    So?
Just to be sure: the "since 1.1" from the compatibility table from MSI, refeers to the bios version right? Not a sort of MB revision or something?

  • Help P35 platinum problems

Hi, I'm new in the forum.
I have bought a p35 platinum about three weeks ago, it is fantastic and I like it very much, but I have some problems with it.
If I list them, could you help me??
    My complete configuration is:
    mb: msi p35 platinum;
    processor: Q6600 (without O.C.);
    ram 4x1gb team elite ram 800mhz;
    video: ati 2600xt 512mb gddr3;
. At first, the motherload's bios colour was black, but suddenly it became classic blue. Now it's blue yet. Is it normal?
. When I turn on the Pc it a emits "beep"(that should be a sign of bad operation of the AMI bios).
. The bios read 3.25gb of ram, but I've installed 4gb.
. dual core center inform me that the CPU fan is 0, while, it goes on spinning. (it happens often)
. A lot of programs, like Sandra or Everest 2007, read the chipset ICH9 instead of ICH9R.
. Live Update crash when it looks for bios versions.
. After installing the bios 1.3 the start is more slowly, besides there is a screened where I can read the marvel component. unfortunately I can read just this, then I will try to do a screen.
    PS:
Despite of I had this problems, I go on loving my magic motherload. I hope you will help me, because I don't know what to do.
My O.s. is Windows vista Ultimate.

    Quote
    3. My O.S. is 32 bit vista ultimate and my O.S. too read 3,2gb of ram but, also when the O.S wasn't istalled on my PC, my platinum p35 read anyway 3,5gb that could be utilized and 4gb installed.
    Read here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=111120.0
You need a 64bit operating system to make use of all 4gb of ram.

it became classic blue. Now it's blue yet. Is it normal?
It is supposed to be blue.

    2. The "beep" that my motherboard (that is new, nobody used it) emit is just one and short, one second after the apparition of MSI logo.
    It means everything is OK.

  • MSI DKA 790GX Platinum problem

Hi !, its my first time i post a new message !, im a french guys and english its my second language... so i will try to do my best...
I bought last week a MSI DKA 790GX Platinum with Amd Phenom 2 940...
I set up all my new pc with OCZ Fatality 4 x 1g ddr2 1066 and WD 640g SATA and a Ultra 600w
First think i saw when i get out the MoBo of the plastic bag, 3 pins of the Flat circu-pipe are broken, i found the 3 spring in the bag... (i can take picture...) but the flat circu pipe stay in place with 1 pin and maybe thermal compound (no sure)... anyway the pc start #1
at the start of the pc i got the unknown processor msg like everyone cause i have the 1.2 bios version
im using the onboard VGA for bios setting, format and install Vista business 64bit.
Come on the forum and use the USB Flash technic... i do everythink you say... work perfectly, bios update to 1.6...
After a reboot like its say a the end of the bios update... I got cmos error... and cant boot anymore
i tryed to clear my cmos error with the button on the MoBo... nothing, or sometime... when i restart my pc... my screen show horizontal bar changing color to red to blue to yellow....
after 30-45min wasting time for reboot,/clear cmos/ remove battery... nothing...
I put my 8800 gt in the pci-e and magiccc.... pc start #1... work perfectly...
so dont no what happend to my onboard vga with the 1.6 bios update
Next week i will get my sapphire 4870 1g ddr5... so dont no now if i will get problem :(
Dont no if anyone here got this problem and solved,
    thank you

    Bas, Thats not the answer
His onboard vga is disabled, on the 1.6 bios update MSI have decided to disable the onboard vga by default, meaning someone either has to go and get a pci-e gfx if they haven't got one or if they lucky enough to still have an old pci gfx they can use that, they need to release a fixed 1.7 bios (as there are other areas messed up).
    johnmmclaine514,
if you've only just got the board and it was damaged, then i suggest you get it replaced, as you don't know what else could be wrong with it. And it's better to do it now as you can just do a straight swap, as later on you could be waiting for 28+ days to get it replaced.
the HD 4870 1GB should work fine, I'm running a HD 4870x2 2GB without any problems

the pc freezes in all windows and not respond so i have to reboot , and several time give me te bios setup screen with the msg CMOS checksum bad
but when i put an ati graphic card the problem seems to stop
is there a compatibility issue o its a mother problem?

the bios is v 1.0.1 i just reset the bios, but with the update i have installed before it was the same thing
yes i clean the old drivers , even with the generic i have this problem , i have format and reinstalled windows as well
what specs are? the voltage is correctly set up, so is The graphic card. the geforce graphic card works well in other CPU , the ati too but in the p45 platinum only the ati works, i will try in the other slot , but my question is there is no compatibility problem between the mother platinum p 45 and Nvidia graphic cards?
my graphic card is the MSI Nvidia geforce n9800gt , the ATI is borrowed ( is not mine , i´m not sure if i said it OK :P ) but very similar in all features
BTW sorry for my english again , and thanks for the support
