Wierd Thing in My Trash

A few weeks ago I noticed that my trash would never completely empty. I didn't receive any errors, but the icon would stay as thought there was something in there. I opened up the trash and there was one file with a filename of " ␀␀␀õ␀␀.␀␀ " I emptied the trash again, but it remained. If i try to move it out of the trash or get info on the file it immediately disappears. I have norton anti virus that scans weekly so i guess it isn't a virus, but what the heck is this thing??

Do you have a bootcamp partition? If so, run chkdsk on it (while booted in windows).

A wierd thing with the MSI Radeon 9800 Pro

I bought this card a few days ago and the wierd thing is that the Windows "thinks" its a 9800XT and not 9800Pro.
I installed the latest ATI Drivers (4.8) and there is no change.
did someone solved this problem.

Wierd Files in My Trash

Has anybody encountered this type of file?
␀␀␀␀␀␀␀.␀␀␀
It's a series of backslashes made of the word NUL. Preview column indicates that the kind is Alias, size is Zero KB on disk, Last opened only says Fetching.... I click on more info and it disappears.
It only appeared quite recently and only when I move a file to the Trash. I don't remember what happened or what I was doing. I don't have Time Machine turned on because I don't have the spare disk space.
I dragged the file to Terminal and it shows that it's on the .trash of a shared FAT32 drive on my network. I've tried deleting it from that particular folder, but it just reappears.
Can somebody please help me? I'm a bit paranoid about this kind of things, which is why I moved from Windows to Mac.

It's from a .Trash File on a Windows volume, and must be repaired with Windows® & chkdsk or whatever.

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system. The TV says "No signal. Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection." Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display. But how do I do that?

The reason why some of the files are blocking the trash from emptying is because of specific ".app" files from third party companies like Adobe products. Not the user files or the various help documents but instead the actual mother program. Here's how to fix this problem:
1) remove from the trash all the actual software programs like Photoshop, InDesign, DreamWeaver and so on and put them on the desktop.
2) Command "I" (info) and when the dialog box opens go to the "Name & Extension" text box and remove the ".app" from the software name. Example: Photoshop.app change to Photoshop.
3) the program icon will change to a "folder icon".
4) put the folder icon back into the trash and you should be able to now empty the trash.
If you continue to get the error code 8003 it's because you may still have one or more software programs in the trash that needs to go through this process. Remember - it's not the user files or help documents or supporting files that is causing this but instead the "actual product programs".

Wierd thing happened after a small change

Hello,
I simply labelled the Macintosh HD to a Red colour and renamed my home folder "home" instead of "stephenmackrill" and it's like the first time I have opened programs such as Mail, Safari, Proteus and probably others which are account related? Mail for one had a large mail that was going to be sent and it seems all my messages had to be downloaded from the .Mac server. I tried renaming the home folder back to "stephenmackrill" and un labelling the HD, but nothing has changed.
I have lost a lot if this is not reversable.

I think your problem here arose when you renamed your home folder - not the best idea.
I think you may need to boot in as single user and check in Users home many folders there are and if you have a home one as you expect.
When you boot in as yourself, your home folder icon should look like a house not a folder.
If you have messed things up, I's suggest adding a new user and then copy the contents of the renamed folder into the new one - you should be back to normal.
Then you can delete the old user under your name.

Spry Accordion doing wierd things

I have a page with 4 accordions on it. To keep things in line, they are in 4 cells of a 2 row table. (I know ... ick!) They are working as designed (including 2 not being expanded on load) except for the erratic behavior of the bottom two. They expand (widthwise) and contract with no reason. I've carefully compared them with the top two (behaving very nicely, thank you) and can find no code difference. What have I missed? The link is http://shrhabitat.org/HFHSHR_staff.php. Thank you.

You aren't setting any widths on your accordions or the <table> ... If you don't specify a width on your tables they will shrink wrap whatever is inside them ... since one of your <td> in your tables is set to 50%, it will always resize whenever the width of your table changes. If you don't specify a width on your accordion, then it defaults to trying to expand to fill up the width of its parent, in this case a table cell, which triggers the table layout code to figure out if it should resize ... blah blah :-) ... Try setting the widths of your table to 100% and see if that fixes things for you ... that will stop the tables from growing/shrinking as content inside it changes.

Display doing really wierd things! please help

Hi- All of a sudden this morning the display on my ibook did this most peculiar thing. The fonts and everything on the desktop got much larger and the whole screen moves around as if it is being dragged (as in drag and drop). I'm using an external mouse (the trackpad has been dead for years). I changed mice to see if that would solve the problem, but no luck. Rebooting doesn't help either. As it boots up everything looks fine, but as the boot up process finishes everything increases in size and then moves around when I move the mouse. It is enough to make me sea-sick! How the hell do I get rid of Download Firefox 29.X .dmg. The damn thing is the trash bucket but when I try to erase it ti keeps telling me it is in use.

THis is the mozilla app wwhich asks me to transfer firefox to applications. I did this correctly but this bloody app is in the trash can and wehn i try to emty the trash can, I keep being the app is in use!!!

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

My iPod touch keeps doin these stupid things! When I swip to search iPod and I swip back to c my apps the key board stays there! And when ever I'm in a app my iPod screen will go black for 5 seconds and go back to the home screen and freeze! Can somone help me please!

it could be that you have water damage.... if not just try restarting (press the home button and the sleep button at the same time until you see the apple logo

Why can't I find all the sites I have visited in my temp internet files? It used to show every site I visited. Now it doesn't and I cannot open the wierd things that are listed there. I don't have delete browsing or private browsing on.

That would fall under Browsing History. Firefox > History -> Show All History

Audio doing Wierd things!!

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this little querk?
All was well, but my captivate has just started to do this today,
and it's somewhat annoying and causing me unneccessary re-work.
Problem is this:
I am recording narration onto a captivate project which is
derived from a converted powerpoint presentation (2003, backward
converted to 2003 to inport into Captivate 3).
When I set my sound levels and record for the first time on a
slide it plays back fine, no hissing or quality issues. However,
now imagaine I edit the recording and need to insert a newly
recorded sentence into this prior recording. BINGO... and here is
the issue, when I do this the recording plays back really noisey at
this newly inserted piece and the quality is awfull, even though
all the equiptment and my voice hasn't changed. I have even tried
recalibrating the input before doing an insert and it has made no
difference.
Curiously, if i then add a blank slide to the project and
record the new sentences to insert in there and then Import that
audio into the preferred slide, it plays back fine. I have no idea
why it is doing this and wondered if anyone else has experienced
this and if I can do something to fix this issue. It makes eding
the audio, hard work and as it was ok before, I am unsure why this
has changed now??
Any advice PLEASE.

I experienced similar the other day - I think somehow the
original sound can
be compressed a second time under certain circumstances,
causing the bad
sound quality. I didn't manage to pin down the exact steps
that caused my
sound problem, but it was something similar to what you
describe. I think
you'll have to stick with your workaround for now.

MY NANO IS DOING WIERD THINGS WITH THE ARTWORK!!

this is what happened :
i went to go play a song so i clicked on it. the artwork was not the regular album artwork. it was weird pink and yellew pixels. i went back to main menu .
and ALL of my cover flow was gone . so i clicked on songs again and it froze for about a minute then returned to normal. but i still can't get the regular album artwork. it keeps doing this ( for teh past week)should i restore my ipod or get a new one ?

i would restore your ipod to refresh everything that will be synced... and make sure you have all up to date patches for your ipod and itunes....
