WIFI access broadband cards

Do you need to sign up with a internet carrier ( ATT, Sprint etc....) to get a WiFi card to work with free wifi.
I just need to get access to the WiFi at college and my home FIOS wireless router for internet

Nope all you need is a wireless card in your notebook. Almost all of the notebooks purchased today have this technology built into them.

  • How can I turn mac mini into wifi access point for iPhone?

    Hi,
    I do not have a wifi router.
    I want my iPhone to be able to use my broadband internet instead of the slow EDGE internet.
    The simple solution would be to buy a wifi router whih would enable my iPhone to access the wifi home network.
    *What if I could turn the mac mini into a wifi access point?* That would save me from the hassle of buying a wifi router.
    Any idea how to do this??
    Message was edited by: d00by666

    I did this.
    I think I am doing something wrong. I am doing something wrong in this setting *from ethernet to airport*.
    see attached screenshot.
    To start Internet sharing on a computer using Mac OS X:
    1. Open System Preferences, click Sharing, and then click Internet.
    2. Select how you would like to share your Internet connection, and then click Start. You
    can choose to share your Internet connection with AirPort-enabled computers,
    computers with built-in Ethernet, or both.
    Note:
    If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (built-in
    Ethernet, for example), contact your ISP before you turn on Internet sharing. In some
    cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the
    network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to
    prevent you from disrupting its network.
    3. If you want to share your Internet connection with computers using AirPort, click
    AirPort Options to give your network a name and password.

  • XP SP3, Broadband cards, and domain membership

    In a nutshell, when using a machine with Windows XP SP3, I’m unable to browse/use the internet with Verizon broadband cards.  An identically configured machine with Window Vista works fine.  I’ve tried two different styles of card (760 and 190), and two correlating version of Access Manager.  Access manager sees the card and can activate it, but once I try to connect, it tries to verify the connection for several minutes, before giving the message “Connected – Dormant”.  If I go to the statistics tab, my TX max rate is 5 and by RX max rate is 0.  When in Vista, I connect almost immediately, with full throughput.
    I’ve taken both cards to several different XP machines – two different laptops and a desktop – all ending up with the same problem.  Regarding hardware, the configurations vary quite a bit from machine to machine.  As far as software, all have Office 2007, but little else – no antivirus or antispam installed, no firewall.  Palm hotspot also does not function with the XP machines.  The connection works fine, but once you try to surf the net, nothing.
    Now for the kicker - if I remove an XP machine for our network domain, the card(s) (and hotspot) work beautifully on that machine.  Add the computer back to the domain, they fail.
    Any ideas???

    I could not connect to my Droid hotspot with my XP(sp3) machine while XP was manageing the wireless connections. I found that there was "Intel Pro/Set" software on the computer for the Intel wireless card. As soon as I fired up and confiqured this Interl software, it saw the Droid hotspot and
    allowed connection to same.

    My bank acc was debited

    The purchase history on your iTunes account will only show purchases from the iTunes stores (iTunes, app store, ibookstore, Mac app store), not from Apple online or bricks-and-mortar stores.
    Does anything show on your credit card ? If the email is genuine then it's possible that your and their email addresses are similar and that they gave the wrong id (or the store typed it incorrectly), it doesn't necessarily mean that anybody has access to your account.
    For the contact, you will initially just receive an acknowledgement email, the proper reply may take 24 (possibly 48) hours.

  • Wifi access for short trip needed.  Was told by Verizon that my iPad (was a gift) is not Verizon enabled.  So, how do I go about getting WiFi access -- I only need it for about 2 weeks.  Would be glad to pay for a month.

    Was gifted with an iPad2.  Do not have Internet service connected to it.  Would like to purchase WIFi access for an upcoming trip.  Am a Verizon phone customer, but was told that my iPad is not a Verizon enabled iPad.  So, what should I do now?  Am aware of free Wifi access in many places, but I want to be sure to have constant access and hope some of you can teach me.  Thanks!

    To use wifi you just need access to a wifi network (and it's password if the network is password protected). If you want to be able to get online when you don't have access to a wifi network then if you have a iPhone you might be able to use that and it's network as a personal hotspot for the iPad (if your carrier supports it), or you can get mifi devices which take sim cards (and therefore also use a cellular network) and which act as mobile hotspots - for either of those to work you would need to be in area that is covered by the phone's/mifi's network

  • Software wifi access point: hostapd freezes system

    I have some scripts that set up a wifi access point through the laptop's onboard wifi card. Since a few weeks ago the system now freezes when running the hostapd command and I have to power off by holding down the power button:
    Here is the hostapd configuration file (taken from the wiki):
    ssid=foo
    wpa_passphrase=blahblah
    interface=wlan0
    #bridge=br0
    auth_algs=3
    # setting this appears to be the problem
    channel=7
    driver=nl80211
    hw_mode=g
    logger_stdout=-1
    logger_stdout_level=2
    max_num_sta=5
    rsn_pairwise=CCMP
    wpa=2
    wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    wpa_pairwise=TKIP CCMP
    I am running the following command
    hostapd -d -t -K /path/to/aforementioned/hostapd.conf
    The onboard wifi adapter is this well-known POS:
    Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
    The adapter works for regular connections. Tweaking the hostapd.conf file has led me to conclude that the channel parameter is the problem. If I omit it, hostapd simply fails to establish an AP but exits. If I include it, it completely freezes all system input.
    Conky seems to keep updating in the background but journalctl -f freezes. The output from hostapd in "-d" and "--dd" mode flies past too quickly to follow and then infinitely prints blank lines.
    Up until a few weeks ago this worked without a hitch. Given that this interrupts user input I wonder if it might be a hardware problem (dying card?)  but I don't know how to check that. Again, connecting to wifi networks works without any issue (that I have noticed). Could this be related to a recent kernel upgrade?
    I'm going to try redirecting the output of hostapd to a file and then using the "magic" sysrq key to sync it before killing the system. If that works I'll post it. Until then, any suggestions of how to debug this would be appreciated.

  • Can't HP Officejet pro 8100 do wifi access point?

    Yesterday my HP Officejet pro 8100 arrived and I try to connect via wifi. I thinked that It need a infrastructure access point to print via wifi.
    When I powered on the printer I osserved that It create an access point autonomously with SSID: HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro, with IPv4 address server, etc...
    I was very happy and I printed a page with my smartphone samsung s4 connected directly with printer access point (not wifi direct but standard wifi).
    Today no changed occurred but I can't use printer with its own access point, but only with an external wifi access point.
    Someone can help me, please? It could be an hardware problem?
    Thanks,
    Luca
    P.S. in web server I checked that "access point connectivity" (Punto di accesso wireless connettività in Italian) is checked.
    This question was solved.

    Hello lucait
    To print via WiFi you need to have a wireless router setup. Once you have the wireless router setup correctly you will have a SSID and Wepkey that will enable you to add devices to your network. The network will allow all your devices to communicate not just with each other but with the internet. At the moment your printer was not put in a network so instead of broadcasting on a network it is broadcasting on it's own network called HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro which is only good for a short period of time to allow you to setup your wireless. I am going to assume you have a wireless network and you are just needing assistance getting the printer setup on that network.
    To set your printer up on a network you will need to reset your network defaults so your printer begins to broadcast that HP-Setup-7A-Officejet Pro network again. You can do this buy following the steps on the HP Support document Resetting the Network Settings. Once you have done this you can begin to install the software that came with your printer on your computer. You want to set the printer up wirelessly when the option arrives. The software should configure your printers wireless for you and put it on the network. Once completed you should be able to access your printer from all your devices as long as they are on the network.
    I hope this helps resolve your wireless issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • How-do-i-configure-guest-wifi-access-using-2504-wlc-fortigate-utm-l3-device

    Dear All
    I have a 2504 Wireless Controller with multiple radios attached. I currently have a "private" WLAN configured (taking ip from windows server based DHCP of Range 192.1681.0/24 ) and working, but I need to add a Guest/Public WLAN which should take the IP from Other DHCP Configured on Fortigate UTM of range 172.16.0.0/24.
    We have one SG300 switch in the office and the rest are basic switches.
    Our firewall/router is a Fortigate UTM 240D
    Find the attached network diagram for the issue.
    Is there a SIMPLE way to enabling guest access that doesn't require VLANS (or are VLANS easier than I'm making them)?
    Thanks.

  • IC-AX412 MP3 recorder: can't "access" M2 card

    IC-AX412 MP3 recorder: can't "access" M2 card. That about says it all. The recorder works fine until I insert the Sandisk 8GB M2 card, at which point everything stops and the message "Accessing" appears on the display, won't go away, and I have to shut down the recorder and take out hte batteries. AND there is no way to UN-write-protect a Sandsk M2 card. How do I find out where th problem is?

    Thank you for the prompt reply. I finally figured it out. The problem isn't the card or the recorder; It's Sony's moronic refusaal to accommodate Apple computers. I'm on a Mac. Does the software that came with the IC recorder run on any non-Windows computer? No, it does not, although the tech I chatted with on your website was unaware of that fact. He was unaware that any app with a name ending in ".exe" won't run on a non-Windows computer.
        The card was brand new and unformatted. I inserted it, got the results I described and didn't know what to do, So I read the manual and found the note about formatting the card using the recorder. That claearly was a non-starter, so I plugged the recorder with the card still in it into the Mac. Both card and recorder appeared onscreen as individual volumes. I opened the Mac Disk Utility and formatted both of them.  Problem solved. Redorder now recognizes card.
    Thanks for all your help, guys.

  • Accessing DAQ-Card 1200 in LabVIEW?

    I configured Daq-Card 1200 in MAX, set the input and output values and so on. How can I now access the card in LabVIEW. Should there be maid any additional configuring under LabVIEW since first time I set up in and out values in MAX there was a place I could set different values to different channels but this time the configuration window lacked many things it used to have.

    When you configure the device in MAX, MAX assigns Device Number to the DAQ Cards starting with 1.
    In labview you can open up DAQ example and run it by specifying correct device number and channel number from which you want to acquire data. You do not need special configuration in labview.

    I am deploying to Afghanistan and I will not have wifi access.  I will have a hardline access to internet.  How do I sync my apps, newsstand, etc without wifi connection?

    About the only other way I can think of is to have a computer with you or use one there, if you can put iTunes on it and download all your new stuff to the computer, then sync your iPad to that computer.
    In switching computers you will lose previous content, but, as I understand it anyway, downloaded content will be the same as long as the same apple ID is used.

  • Will Wireless WRT54G3G Work with USB Broadband card?

    Hi, I bought the WRT54G3G Router... When it arrived I realized it was made to take a plug in Broadband card with the small connectors. I have a USB broadband card. Does anyone know if it will still work via another method, ie: via a lan line, or if there is an adapter for the wireless plugin that would convert it so it could be used with a USB port? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you... Jo

    i don't think it would work with the USB card... it is made only for the PCMCIA cards...
