WiFi activity wheel keeps turning in Safari

The cog-wheel-like WiFi activity indicator (next to the WiFi fan) is continuously turning when I use Safari. I have tried clearing the Safari cache and history, shutting off the WiFi and reconnecting, closing Safari and restarting, even turning off the iPad and turning it back on. Still, whenever I go into Safari, the wheel just keeps on turning. I am able to use Safari, but this apparently constant activity is worrying.
Any ideas?
Okay, the problem has resolved itself. I have no idea how, but after I went to the Appstore and downloaded an update, then went back inti Safari, everything was fine again.

Well, I thought the problem was fixed, but today I have the same symptom: the activity wheel juxt keeps on turning when in Safari. I have even closed all open pages, but it still turns.
Any help appreciated.

Since I installed OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro, sometimes after login, the colored wheel keeps turning and I can't do anything. When I click on some icon or in the menu, no happens.
After a long time (more than 1 hour), I decide to switch off my Mac holding the button down and when I boot and log in again, it works normally.
Remark: When I logoff, I do not ask to keep my open programs for the next session.
    I have a MacBook Pro 2010 with 4GB Ram.

  • Cant receive email, wheel keep turning

my wheel keeps turning and cant recieve email

I've now emptied the email from the phone and attempted to delete the account but it keeps showing up.  I've tried deleting it and then returning to the settings and then re-entering the mail under settings and the account still shows.  I've repeated attempting to delete the account and then rebooting, and the account still shows.  I've attempted to reenter the information to set up a new account, but it won't allow it as the old account is still there.
The one thing I've noticed is that it appears that the phone is continually trying to connect/check for mail as the battery is draining at a rate about four or five times normal.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks for your help.

  • My MacbookPro has frozen up.  It is not responding.  restart.  Tle spinning wheel keeps turning.  What to do?

Am not able to do anything: log off, shut down, bring up console window, etc.  Pressing power on/off button has no effect.  The spinning wheel keeps spinning.

Insert your OS installer disk. Then hold down the power button until it shuts off. Then press the power button and hold down the 'c' key so it boots to the installer disk. From the Utilities menu select Disk Utility. Then select your hard drive and then select Repair Disk.

  • Gmail doesn't receive any new mail; mail activity wheel keeps spinning

    Hi all,
I have never had real problems with OSX Mail but since 2 days my Imap gmail account doesn't receive any mails anymore. I already checked the account info several times and they are all ok. Also the connection doctor doesn't detect any problem with either my internet connection or the mail servers I am using. When I use safari to check my mail online, there is no problem. Also, when I use Thunderbird to check the same account (with the same account info) it just works (but I hate Thunderbird!). I use 4 mail accounts, with 2 imap accounts and only the gmail is not working properly. I'm on mail 4.2 and OSX 10.6.2.
I already completely deleted the gmail account and reinstalled it, but the same problem keeps showing up. I also deleted the com.apple.mail.plst and the imap folder in the mail directory but still, after again setting up all my accounts, the gmail account keeps showing the 'fetching new mail' wheel.
I browsed this forum for a solution and found a lot of issues much alike, but not completely the same. Anyway, I hope you have a solution!
    Best regards,
    Jay

I've had similar problems that started about a week about after a system upgrade. I too have tried re-registering/re-indexing mail (by pulling the mail folders out to the desktop). I've run disk utility. I did the permissions first & corrected those, then I did the verify drive (couldn't select repair yet). The drive verification identified several errors & directed I restart on OS X DVD - which I did (after it reinstalled OS X). Then I ran validate drive & it didn't find any issues. However, my mail continues to bog down and give me the spinning wheel. In the past week I have to force quit mail at least 4-5 times a day. The system is only 2 months old & I only have one POP and one IMAP email linked to it. It appears that the IMAP (gmail) is the one causing the problems. I've triple checked the settings (which hadn't changed when the problems started).
I've spent several hours the past week researching all I can in the forums. It appears that this is a common problem with no real solutions.
As a new Mac owner, I'm not impressed so far. I haven't give up hope and it is also possible that it could be due to an unknown error on my part as a novice Mac user. Just the same, though, previous PCs at least lasted more than 2 months.
Like Jay, I hope someone has a solution. Thanks.

  • Help! Mid 2009 MacBook Pro won't boot! Just apple and the wheel keeps turning... Out of AppleCare , survived the hurricane, NOW WHAT?

Won't boot. Won't turn off. No sounds. Just wheel turning around and around. What to do???

Don't turn it off, perform a emergency backup proceedure to a new drive.
    Emergency backup procedure
Drag and drop copy your users file folders (music, pictures, documents etc) to a regular external powered drive as soon as possible.
Do not use, setup or trust only TimeMachine at this troubled time as it will copy corrupted data and we need just your users files safe just in case. TimeMachine cannot be used with a Windows PC.
Unmount (right click > eject) and disconnect all external drives once the backup process is completed.
    Note:
If you have any over 4GB sized files, those won't copy to a standard formatted FAT32/MSDOS drive from the factory, if you need to save these 4GB+ files use another blank/empty drive and use Disk Utility to format it 1 Partition, Option: GUID,  Format: OS X Extended Journaled.
Typical large 4GB+ sized files are movies, imovie projects and raw (non-compressed) audio files. Naturally if you don't have any of these or can avoid backing them up (like you don't care about them) then there is no need to reformat the drive from FAT32/MSDOS.
Mac's cannot copy to nor format a NTFS  drive. ExFAT format to be used with a Windows machine must be right click formatted by Windows, not OS X (does it wrong) XP machines can install a free exFAT update from Microsoft. Vista-Win 8 can format exFAT.
Formatting a drive will erase all data on it.
Once the backup is completed, you can take your machine to a local PC/Mac tech and they can solve your software and or some hardware issues, but if a hardware issue is determined, you should take it to Apple first as they have the electronic checker.
If you get a new machine, drive or new OS X installed as a result of this problem, then you can access your external drive backup and restore just your files if the tech support won't or you rather do it yourself for privacy reasons.
1: Connect the drive and click on the icon and Finder > Get Info
2: At the bottom unlock and "Ignore Permissions on this volume" provide your Adim password.
3: Once your files are transferred to the new account, then perform #6 Reset User Permissions here
..Step by Step to fix your Mac

  • Slow Mail app Wheel keeps turning every time I touch the program

My mail app has recently become cumbersome. Every time I write a few lines the little wheel turns until it seems it has saved to disc or to the iDisk. It is becoming a real pain in the neck. I noticed that it is also happening with Pages app too. I have archived 95% of all the old emails.
The genius in the local Mac Store said it is because it is syncing with MobileMe all the time. So I switched the syncing to Manual. but this has not solved the problem. Does anyone else have the same problem or have any ideas how to cure it. I have tried al the normal things like repair permissions, rebuild mailboxes etc.

I have just tried to change the new settings in Mail preferences.
The IMAP account setting have a tick box for IDLE (it is at the bottom of the "advanced" panel on the recent upgraded Mail 3). This is a setting which makes the IMAP accounts look up all the time to get the "push" email. I have set them to "off" and it seems to make a difference, but I am not sure that this is the cause.
However, It would seem realistic that if you have slow broadband speeds it will have a bigger effect than if you have fast broadband speeds. Here we have about 2 MBpS download and 0.3MBpS uploading.

  • Wheel keeps turning - trying to go from tiger to leopard

I put the 10.5 install disk in the drive, hit the restart button, and it has not come back yet. It has been an hour turning its wheel - I don't remember hearing a start-up sound - and I'm afraid to turn it off in fear of losing everything. I have everything backed up, so that's no problem. But what should I do now? Can I safely turn the power off?
Mac is a G4 with the bubble foot.

    In a word, yes.
When you restart try holding down the C key on your keyboard to boot from your 10.5 install disk.

  • HT1338 my mail is working but the little wheel keeps turning beside my iCloud account

my mail program on my MacBook Pro Lion is working but the little wheel is constantly turning beside my iCloud mail account. Can you tell me why this would be - it started last night when I got a note saying that I had connected to a site without a trusted certificate and I clicked.. trust. Would this cause this little wheel to be constantly turning beside my Mac mail account in Mail. ???

Hi Grebus, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Quit Mail...
First I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • The wheel keeps turning

For every simple action the wheel appears and turns for minutes slowing everything

I had that problem a week ago. Plus it took a long time for my Macbook Pro 15" 2010 to boot ( approx 6 mins ).
I was still able to back up all my stuff - do it while the going is still going, anniepaul !
Took it to the Apple store (here in Italy). They reformatted the hard disk (70 euros) and even installed Lion,
upgrading my S Leopard. Nice surprise!
Everything was honky dory for a few days, and then the computer just froze like never before. Nothing to be done.
Back to Apple store. They installed a new hard drive. Nothing to pay - everything under guarantee / Apple Protection Plan.
This is the second hard drive I've had installed in less than 2 years. It's not as traumatic as it sounds, IF you've all your material securely backed up.

  • HT3964 iMac turns on but wheel keeps turning but nothing happens

I turn on computer sign in  wheel turns but nothing happens. Help please. Huka

Did you do any of the other suggested stuff?  For example, boot from your recovery partition and run Disk Utility to repair/verify you drives (not repair permissions).
Do I take it your reference to "shift" was to boot in safe mode?  If so you did you really boot in safe mode?  Did you push the shift immediately after the boot chime?
Did you remoeve all additional periphials (firewire's, USB's)?
You might consider running the Apple Hardware Test.

  • "Processing" wheel keeps turning no matter what ....

... even when I reboot Aperture and/or restart my Macbook Pro.
    Hi,
Why is that and how can I stop it? I am also concerned as to what it means in terms of the software's stability.
    Thanks a lot,
    Raphael

    What happens now post-Aperture!?
There is not yet much information by Apple about the future of the photo software. Apple has released information, that Aperture will be updated to work with MacOS X 10.10.x, Yosemite; also, that it will be possible, to migrate Aperture libraries to the new Photos.app and that the Photos.app will support advanced features of Aperture. So you will be able to use Aperture for at least one and half year longer, or even longer, if you do not upgrade to Yosemite. I will wait to see the new Photos.app, before I decide what to do. The new extensions architecture of Yosemite will allow for very powerful plug-ins.
I think, it is worth it to wait and see.

Mountain lion osx wifi keeps turning to the "off" setting by itself and when I try to turn it back on again it doesn't change from "off" to "on" Any ideas about whats wrong? The only way I can solve it is by restarting the macbook.
    I have a macbook pro

You are running a pretty old version of the OS if your information is correct above and there have been quite a few improvements to the WiFi systems in recent releases.
You may want to try to reinstall the OS. If that does not work you may consider upgrading the OS.
