Wifi and iphone

if i am on a wifi network using the internet, if someone tries to call me will my iphone just drop wifi and will the call still go through?

When connected to the internet via an available wi-fi network, you can receive calls while actively accessing the internet. During a call when connected to an available wi-fi network, you can access the internet if needed. It isn't possible to do the same with a first generation iPhone while actively accessing the internet via the cellular network.
This is possible with an iPhone 3G when connected to the 3G network in addition to being able to do the same when connected to an available wi-fi network.

You could try syncing the contacts with yahoo or google contacts, then sync them to the iPhone.  Or, export the contacts and then import them into one of the aforementioned servicse, or iCloud, then sync to the phone.

  • IMessage between iPad (wifi) and iPhone 4

I have an iPad 2 that runs only on wifi. My dad just bought an iPhone 4 from AT&T. I know that if I use iMessage I do not have any charges. However, what charges or data usage would he have if he is on the AT&T network? If he is using wifi is there are cost or data usage?

There is only one quirk in case like that. PEBCAK. You are giving them incorrect information. We can safely assume you don't do it on purpose, but you are doing that nevertheless. Now you started giving it to me. Good luck. Or check everything again.
Same place-good network? - same account? - events go to www.icloud.com from iphon? ipad?
computer? And so on. I do not care what is incorrect - you do. I personally prefer if you check yourself by yourself.

  • BT Fon wifi and iphone data roaming

    Hi
I am travelling to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for three weeks from December 30th this year.
I was hoping to take advantage of FON wifi hotspots in each of these cities- of which there are many! In order mainly to avoid the notorious "bill shock"- so to use my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 apps only when within these hotspots and only with the wifi part of the devices (3g turned off).
However a colleague of mine reckons that I will still be charged for wifi use of FON hotspots if I am updating iAPPS etc.
I was under the impression that *ALL* FON usage was free to BT Broadband customers just like access to BT openzones in the UK is.
Can anyone clear this up for me please? If I do have to pay for FON usage on these devices in the se cities where can I fins a price list?
    thanks
    Rob

    Hi rjs200, and welcome.
Wi Fi via Fon is free for BTBB customers. There will be 'open' wi fi in cafe's, bars and hotels etc..........
What you need to watch out for to avoid the killer bill is that you dont connect to data use.  Disable the data connection for all functionality on your phone before you leave the UK, and you wont geta nasty shock when you return home.
There are apps. which you can install, such as "wi fi analyzer" which can alert you to available wi fi connections.
There is also the possibility of using VOIP for phone calls back to the UK, on Android it is the Sipdroid app., there will doubtless be an i phone equivalent for you to use. VOIP uses your BTBB huphone number.
Check out the Fon website for locations and partners abroad etc.

  • Wifi and iphone (standard behavior or not)

hi, each time that my iphone is paused wifi conection is closed. Is that a standard behavior ??

You mean when putting your iPhone to sleep?
If so, I have experienced the same with each firmware version. When waking my iPhone after it has been asleep for a while, my wi-fi connection is lost but it takes a second or two to reconnect.
I'm going to check if the same occurs with my iPhone after installing firmware version 2.2.1.

  • AT&T hot spots (WiFi) and iPhones

Supposedly ATT DSL subscribers of 3GB can get free hot spots access nationwide. What about iPhones, do you get access as well?

Your report is correct in that this service is offered to AT&T DSL subscribers. It is not currently offered to at&t, nee Cingular, cellular subscribers, including those with iPhone plans. You're talking here about distinctly different business units.
If you want such services, call or write at&t and express your interest.

  • Edge, WiFi and iPhone

I have issues connecting to my wireless router with the iphone.  It recognizes the network at times and other times it does not.  I have followed all the steps to reset, restore, etc the phone and the router.  I still cannot get the phone to remain connected to my secure wireless network.  When at home the phone settings show that it is recognizing the network but I "home page" shows the E for Edge and will occasionally revert to the network but when I attempt to use Safari or other programs the phone reverts back to E.  I am at a loss - is it my phone?

The following Apple support document may help you:

Specifically, check out the section called "If iPhone Wi-Fi connection reverts to EDGE".
    Hope this helps.

  • My wife and I just got new iPads.  We also have an iPhone 4s (wife) and iPhone 5 (mine).  With these iPhone we each have our own appleID.  My question is that I want to set up iTunes on our desktop and share media (songs, movies etc) on all our devices.

We want to keep our separate ID's.  How can I accomplish this?  Do I need to set up a family appleID for the desktop or use one of the existing accounts?  Thanks for the help.

If you don't mind sharing everything, you can share the same apple ID. I do think it limits your ability to facetime, but I'm not sure on that.

  • HT3529 My wife and I both have an iphone.   We initially created it under her apple id.   We will receive each others text messages from certain people not all.   Any ideas why and what we can do to stop it

My wife and I both have an iphone.  We initially set them up under one apple id account.  When we text sometimes we will receive each others text messages from others.   Example I will text a friend...she will not see my text but the reply comes to both of us.  It seems to be random which ones.  Any ideas how to correct this

    Yup, get your own AppleID.
The messages that are being sent to both phones are technically not text, they are Apple's iMessage. They use the data part, not the texting part. So if you have an iPad or a Mac computer, you can send/receive the iMessages there too.

  • HT201269 When I updated my wife's iphone 4s the last time to IOS 7 she lost all her contacts. I logged onto icloud because I thought they would have been save there but I can't find them.  My daughter and wife use the same Apple ID

About 2 weeks ago I plugged my wife's iphone 4S to our pc to update  it to IOS 7and backup her iphone info to icloud. When I was done my wife's iphone had my daughter's ipod info on it and I can't find my wife's info on icloud anywhere. My wife has about 6 years of business contacts on her iphone so she is rather upset. Is there a way to recover her contacts?

You don't have to wipe anything, but when you get a chance make sure you backed up to icloud.
What that means is your contacts inside of the phone either physically or liquid damaged. To check
which, you can look inside and if you see a little pink, that would give you a water damage. If you don't
see pink it means that you to many times plugged in that charger the other way or tried to. May be
used some other things to plug in. If you flash the light in you may be able to see those contacts.
If I were you, i would not believe me, good luck!

  • How can i split up icloud account. its the same for my wife and i but i would like 2 separate accounts. we both have iphone 4

my wife and i both have iphone 4. they were set up with 1 icloud account. we now both have separate apple id's. I would like to set up a different icloud account on my phone with my apple id and password separate from my wife.

Decide which iPhone will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the one that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing Notes with iCloud, you'll also have to email your notes to yourself so they can be recreated in the new account as they cannot be migrated.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • My wife and I share the same iTunes account.  How can I setup a separate account for her iPhone using my iMac?

My wife and I share the same iTunes account. How do I setup a separate account for her? Can I do it using my iMac?
    Thanks

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
