Wifi and PC on 2 different subnets ?

Can anyone confirm if BlackBerry Link can use:
* MULTICAST to locate devices ?  This will allow PC software to find a device across routers that participate in multicast.  I presume the default mechanism the BB10 device uses is BROADCAST which does not cross any router.  But I can understand Enterprise customers not caring which LAN they are on (as they might have multiple WiFi LANs and multiple Ethernet LANs on a single site) and just wanting device and PC to be paired and working.
* Allow explict IP address associations to be setup.  The Wifi IP my Z30 gets is locked to MAC, so can BlackBerry Link keep trying to poll/connect to it, multilple IPs should be allowed to be setup this way, with priority order, where higher priority IPs continue to be polled even if device is connected to lower priority.  This will allow me to configure Wifi IP as top priority, and VPN IP (which can also be locked/static IP) as 2nd priority.  The VPN static IP allows for an IP to work from anywhere in the world (from a foreign Wifi or mobile network).
* Can non-direct communication be disabled (both on PC software and on device) for example to disable routing of all data via an intermediate node.   This indirect connectivity should also be in the priority list, maybe as the last-resort.
My Wifi has a stateful firewall back to the LAN.  That is the LAN can access Wifi freely but the Wifi can not access the LAN freely.  So what protocol/ports need to be open ?  Or does the PC side always initiate the connectivity ?  With the Wifi and the LAN can access the Internet freely.
What is the system tray, BlackBerry Device Manager for ?  what is the "Bypass Router Configuration" about ?  and port 4101 ?  is this a BES/Enterprise feature ?
I am thinking in here I should be able to configure MULTICAST enable and also setup various static IPs my PC can connect to where my Z30 device might be, including IPv6 IPs.

I cannot answer all your concerns but I can answer some.
Here is some limited info on port 4101......http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/deliverables/25735/BB_Router_ports_connection_types_566661_11.js...
The System Tray BlackBerry Device Manager is used to see and save to PC the data on your phone when your phone is connected via USB.

  • Management and native Vlan in different subnet??

Can i have a management ip and native vlan in different subnet on a AIR-1242 and 2960 switch?
    Native on Switch = 1.
    Interface vlan 100 = 10.10.1.25X /24
    BVI ip in vlan 100 = 10.10.1.25X /24
    -HM-

    Hi,
    Thanks for the update..
Ok in short YES this can be done.. here is the AP configuration..
Step 1>> Configure the SSID and map it with respective Vlans..
    Step 2>> Create the sub interafce int dot11 0.5 / int fa 0.5 (encapsulation dot1q 5 , bridge-group 5)and int dot11 0.6 / int fa 0.6(encapsulation dot1q 6 , bridge-group 6)
Step 3>> Create the sub interface 0.100 for both Radio and Fa and under this (encapsulation dot1q 100 native , bridge-group 1)
Step 4>> Make sure all the interafces are up and running and Try to ping the VLAN 100 interafce ip addr from the AP to verify.
lemme know if this answered your question..

  • Management and AP Manager on Different Subnets ...

    Hello,
I am getting ready to implement a WLAN where the customer has designed the Management and AP Manger to be on different subnets.  I have never done a WLAN implementation in this manner because per Cisco's config guide it states ...
"The AP-manager interface’s IP address must be different from the management interface’s IP address and may or may not be on the same subnet as the management interface. However, Cisco recommends that both interfaces be on the same subnet for optimum access point association."
So, I have always followed this recommendation and have always made the 2 interfaces be in the same subnet with IP's in sequential order.  The config guide does say it'll work but I am just not sure what if anything do I have to do for this to work properly ... or if there is really a difference on how the process works doing it either way.
I plan on using LAG with Layer 3 ... most times I place the APs in the same wireless subnet/vlan as the management interface and AP manager but in this case or until I get more info it looks like they all may be in different subnets. So, if that's the case would I just need to use the Option 43 so the APs can find the WLC and if that is the case would I put the AP Manager IP or still use the WLC IP ... guess I would have that same question if I went the DNS route?  Or do I still use the WLC IP address for the APs to join and at that point the AP Manager would take over the LWAPP communications?
Thanks for all your help in advance!

You should be using the WLC Management IP as documented in "Cisco 440X Series Wireless LAN Controllers Deployment Guide". Below is quoted from that document.
"The IP address of the WLC Management Interface should be used for Option 43 and DNS resolution of
CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.localdomain." For further information, see the section on "Understanding
Deployment Basics" beginning on page 13. Detailed information on using vendor specific DHCP Option 43
for WLC discovery is included in Appendices C, D, and E of this document.
Also there is no issue having the AP Manager and Management interfaces in different vlans although not recommended, just be sure to allow both vlans across the trunk to the WLC. I would also recommend placing your APs in different vlans than the WLC Mgmt/AP Mgr vlan. Cisco recommends having no more than 60-100 APs per vlan to minimize re-association problems in case of network failure.

  • Connection fails if server and clients are in different subnets

    Hello,
our Volume License Manager (v2.1) is running in another subnets than the clients (All machines are running under Windows XP-SP2 without Domains or ADS, just workgroups).
The server is in subnet A (192.168.42.0/24), all clients are located in another subnet  B (192.168.50.0/24).
Routing is properly configured and is working fine, traffic to the specific hosts is not blocked by a firewall. We can ping every machine,
open telnet connections to the NILM, everything works.
But if the clients try to connect to the remote NILM (both local client NI License Manager and VLM port settings are correct)  their connection attempt always
times out with error code "NILM10"
(I already read the mentioned KBs, no solution has helped so far). This is true if clients and server are separated.
For testing purposes, i plugged one client into the server's subnet (server's IP: 192.168.50.250, client 192.168.50.10)
and it worked perfectly. Is there a reason why  server and client have to be on the same subnet or is it some other kind of problem that I am not aware of?
    Thank you.
    Thorsten

    Hello Thorsten,
Did you add the server's domain to the client computer's DNS settings. To do this, complete the following steps on the client computer:
    1. Open Local Area Network Settings from the Control Panel (Start»Control Panel»Network Connections»Local Area Connection)
    2. Click the Properties button
    3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list of network components
    4. Click the Properties button
    5. Click the Advanced button
    6. Change to the DNS tab
    7. Ensure Append these DNS suffixes is selected
    8. Click the Add button
    9. Enter the domain suffix of the license server and click Add
    10. Close any open dialog boxes, choosing OK and Close as necessary.

  • My wife and I have two different accounts with apple, and want to share a database.

Let me start by saying that we both just moved from under a rock and started using Apple and Itunes.
I have a 4S she has a 4.  We both created an account before using Itunes.  I set up itunes on our home pc (XP) without thinking about her wanting/needing to share the pc for syncing and loading music to our phones.  I dont want to plug her in until I am sure we wont mess anything up.
Is there a way we can use one pc and two different devices with two different accounts without a divorce.  The majority of cds were hers, so i'm already on her bad list

  • PXE boot issue with DHCP and SCCM server on different subnets

I'm working with a client on the operating system deployment module of SCCM.
Their network configuration currently has a single large subnet for client
computers with a DHCP server on the same subnet. The SCCM subnet is
configured on a seperate subnet with no DHCP server on the subnet. We want to
configure client computers to be able to boot using the PXE client to deploy
OS images to the machines but can not get PXE-boot to work correctly.
Also, the client does not want to make changes to their network
infrastructure routers or switches to remedy this problem. Are there settings
on the DHCP or SCCM servers we can implement to make this work? If so, what
needs to be installed or configured on each server. We currently already have
WDS installed on the SCCM server and the SCCM server is configured as a PXE
Service Point within SCCM. Both WDS and the PXE Service Point seem to be working fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • How to map two different subnets to one SSID

      Hi Experts ,
we have two offices in same city at different location however we are planning to bring both the office at same location.
Now lets say site A has controller 5508 configured with 24 AP's with 10.10.10.x subnet for internal SSID and Site B which is shifting to Site A campus has different subnet ( 10.10.20.x )  for same SSID.
Site B has no controller since they had connection with H-reap and they were using different subnet for internal SSID ( 10.10.20.x ) .....
Now i need to add their AP's in Site A controller which will be extended wireless LAN however we would like to keep same subnet ( 10.10.20.x )  what Site B has for wireless clients which is really confusing me ....
I have already client subnet for site A with 10.10.10.x /24 subnet  and nearly 200 users are already using this wireless client subnet....
How do i add their ( Site B ) subnet / 10.10.20.x  with same SSID configured  which is globally only one SSID  ?
    limitations :
I can not create new SSID for site B since same will be broadcasting even in Site A AP's
Is this possible to map one more subnet of site B to existing SSID with already different subnet ( 10.10.10.x ) ?
Your suggestions will be really helpful for me to go ahead and understand in better manner ...

Well first off, you need to bring that subnet over to site a without breaking any routing. Once you do that then sites B subnet will have a different vlan than site A of course. Now with both subnets working in site A, you create a dynamic interface on the WLC for that new subnet. Create an AP group for both sites, you can name it by vlan or by any name you want. Now in the ap group for site A, you define what SSID's you want and map the vlan to that ap groups. Then add sites A AP's to that group. You do this also for site B's AP's and map the SSID to the new subnet you brought over and move the AP's to that group. The APs from site B would have to be setup in local mode not hreap.
    Makes sense

  • Connect WiFi to one subnet & the Ethernet port to a different subnet? (OJ Pro 8600)

    Hello all,
I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600, which has both WiFi and an Ethernet port.
I have two routers at home: one for a fibre boradband line for business use and another for an ADSL line which the family use.
    The fibre router has a 172.17.17.x subnet and the family router has a 172.17.18.x subnet.  I would like to connect the printer wirless to the family router via WiFi and ALSO to the business router via an Ethernet cable.  If I do the above;
Should I be able to print from both networks?
Is there a risk of the printer "Bridging" the two subnets in any way? (I like to keep businenss / family traffic seperate)
    Any advice greatly apprecaited.
    Al.
PS: I use a NetGear ProSafe Dual WAN router to sit across the fibre line & the ADSL line (it's configured to fail-over to ADSL in the even the fibre fails).  Whilst the business & home networks are on seperate subnets; I do have the option to set-up static routing between them (only for the specific protocols & ports that the printer needs to work).  Would this be a better idea than connecting the printer to two different networks?

I have 2 iphones 4s's, ones my wife and one is mine. we have different apple IDs, can we share one itunes account?? if so, how??

If you haven't set up your own Apple ID already don't.  I suggest you use the same apple ID as your wife's.  The alternative is to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848.  It's not efficient as you have to swap apple id's to update apps under both IDs.  20/20 being hindsight, I would have never created a 2nd apple ID for my wife.
    Hope this helps.

  • My wife and I decided to both buy Iphones do I put them both under the same apple ID, or do I create two different apple ID's and two differnt icloud accounts?

My wife and I decided to both buy Iphones do I put them both under the same apple ID, or do I create two different apple ID's and two differnt icloud accounts? We want to be able to share my itunes library on both our phones and sync our calendars, but I don't want every update and reminder that my wife puts in her phone and I know she doesn't want every reminder I put in my phone.

What you need to do is both use the same Apple ID for iTunes content, but separate Apple ID's for everything else. So, you keep your existing Apple ID. If not a verifiable email address, you will need to create a new Apple ID for yourself. You also create an Apple ID for your wife, again a verifiable email address. You use the existing Apple ID for all iTunes content. The new Apple ID's for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. Here's how to create an Apple ID:
