Wifi autoconnect

I password protected my wireless network recently. For some reason, the iphone no longer auto connects to the network. It will connect if i manually tell it to, but no auto connect. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea how to solve it? Would be nice for it to connect once I walk in my house again.

Actually i just posted about a simular wifi issue i had which may be on page 2 of the discussions page where my iphone did not see the wireless router, i went in and did the forget network option and then re add the wireless router under the other section and then put the security password in, I then was able to connect to my wireless router and turn off the SSID broadcast. If you have the SSID broadcast turned off currently you iPhone may not see the router until you add it under the other tab.

  • Police Siren in the background

    There was a previous thread that had been previously posted but now has been locked to presenting any additional solutions. So this is actually an additional solution, not a question to the police siren running in the background.
    I have a Gateway Laptop running Win 7(64bit) with a AMD Athlon II Dual Core M300(Caspian) with a WiFi connection. It is about 2 years old. Three weeks ago I reformatted my HD and reinstalled everything. I started noticing the police like siren in the background that started about a minute after I booted up my computer that would go for about 15-30 seconds and then quit. It would do it again approx every 30 miinutes, regardless whether I had any programs, browsers, etc open or closed. I ran virus programs, registry programs, and other malware apps. It still continued. Yesterday I opened the volume mixer (Right click on the volume icon and choose open volume mixer). I noticed a slider control Which I hadn't seen before: mpg123. I waited till the siren went off again and clicked on the mute for that slider and it stopped. I then started to think of any programs which were on my computer that might have that siren sound associated with it. I then remembered that I had the Prey open source antitheft program, one of the ones that I had re-installed. I went to my
    programs menu and selected the 'configure prey' option. When the Prey Congigurator Menu opened I selected the 'Manage Prey
    Settings' option and next. I made sure the 'Wifi autoconnect' option was checked and hit apply. It said successful. I
    waited for an hour and heard no more siren. I then went back to the volume mixer and noticed that the mpg123 slider was no
    longer there. Of course, it probably had disappeared after I had reconfigured the Prey settings. So far the siren has no longer returned.

    Hello, got a problem connecting to my wifi: every time I start up my Laptop (5 year old Toshiba Satellite L300) the wificonnections are listed but windows is unable to connect to the WIFI. Wificonnection states unable to connect, after running Windows Network
    Control the issue is found en the WIFI connects correctly. 
    I need to run the troubleshooter every time after staring up windows in order to get my wifi running, this is rather annoying..
    Does anybody have a solution? I downloaded and installed the latest driver from intel, and also tried to enter below without any improvement.

  • Mac OS X Lion doesn't autoconnect to wifi network

    Hello,
    I have a small problem concerning my Wifi connection. I used to have Mac OS X 10.6 to automatically connect to my favourite network. But since I upgraded to Lion 10.7 I'm asked to pick my network from a list after start-up. I tried several times to check/uncheck the "Connect to my favourite networks automatically"-button, but this didn't help at all.
    Do you have any suggestions? Or will I have to setup my network once again on my TimeCapsule ?

    ....same problem. As well if I connect to the same computer with an other profile no way to get the Wifi connection, first I have to get into the main account, connect manually the Wifi and change to the otherone...

  • Wifi scans but fails to connect on Thinkpad W520

    Running Network Manager on a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 and able to scan but unable to connect to wifi.  Wifi works fine in dualboot on Windows, and ethernet works fine in both.

    Additionally, after stopping NetworkManager and trying wifi-menu, it scans correctly but fails to connect, never even prompting for a passphrase.

    Welcome to the forums - and thanks for a great initial post, all the needed information seems to be here.
    Specifically, the following error from wpa_supplicant will most likely be best to dig into:
    wlp3s0: failed to initialize driver interface
    I see several results of this error in a google search, but none of them quickly translated into solutions yet.  To get some more information on it, could you run the same wpa_supplicant command, but with the verbose debugging flag "-dd" and post the ouput here?
    I don't have a intel wireless card, so I don't know what the diagnostic signs are for the problem addressed in the wiki, but you may want to try the modprobe options shown in this section of the wiki.
    EDIT: there is a similar but unresolved thread on these forums here which points to using the -D flag for wpa_supplicant to specify other drivers.  I was thinking this too upon my first reading, but I don't fully understand what these are so I was reluctant to suggest it.  It certainly can't hurt anything to use the command in the wiki to see which drivers are available, then try each one.
    EDIT 2: and this thread seems to indicate that the -D flag driver specification is the right solution.  So start here with the -D flag and only if that fails follow up with my initial debugging suggestions.

    My MBP would not autoconnect to my wifi networks, but now with the 10.4.6 update ... fixed !!!
    Still whines ... still screen issues ... still runs super hot ... keyboard still needs to be replaced.
    1 out of 5 ain't bad.

  • MacBook Pro Early 2011 WiFi unstable connections

    I have been having issues in trying to stay connected to my WiFi network using my MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 Version on Mavericks 10.8. I will have connection for anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes, sometimes less then that, and then it will just lose connection. It wont come back on until I either reselect the WiFi connection and possibly enter the password again, or I just turn it off and then on again to have it autoconnect. I have not had a single issue with my LG Nexus 5 phone that has been on the same network without a single dropped connection. I need to see if there is a fix for this as I need to have a stable connection for my school work as all of it is me having to turn in assignments online. Has anyone else had this issue or ever heard of it?

    Try the basics first:
       Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
    Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
    In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • How to fix problems with WIFI iOS 6. ,,, i.e. No auto connect.

    All i am having various issues.
    1- Wifi wont work properly with OS6.
    Examples: facebook wont update notifications while in wifi, but is does in 3G.
    Other example: uploading pictures runtime error.
    2- Wifi wont Autoconnect. It was auto connecting until I reseted the network settings.
    Not sure why now all the sudden does not auto connect.

    Your problem may have to do with the age of your router. My old router does have the same problem.
    It could also be the router settings, or the firmware version. Make sure you update the firmware. In other cases downgrading the firmware also may work. Apple is been updating wifi protocols to new standards, causing old routers to be not as good. (Specially with the iOS 6).
    To fix the auto connect;
    1- delete all networks
    2- turn on "ask to join networks"
    3- turn off 3G to force Safari to ask to join a network.
    4- open Safari
    5- accept to connect to wifi and enter password
    6- you are done, and it will always auto connect
    If you go straight to networks and connect to wifi that way next time you turn off and back on the wifi it wont auto connect. You need to follow instructions above.

  • Auto connect to WiFi on E55

    Each time I want to connect to the internet via WiFi on my E55,  I have to manually input the 10 digit  WEP code. Is there a way to store the WEP code and log on automatically?

    Further to this post, I have noticed that the phone autoconnects if I remove the passcode (PIN unlock) feature from my iPhone. So I can fix the problem by removing my phone's main security feature. Not ideal. Can anyone confirm this is right?

    It's really frustrating that my Mac 9/10 times won't reconnect after sleep mode.
    Is there something I can download to fix this please.

    This should be filed under "What Worked for Me".  For me this turned out to be a simple fix for a tough problem.  Maybe someone else can benefit from my experience so I'm dropping this into the forum to be searchable.
    The short answer is to try putting your WiFi station on a low channel number. It fixed my reconnect problem permanently. I can only speculate about why this works, but it's easy to try.
    Long version-  Fails to autoconnect after sleep, own station not listed in wifi dropdown list.
    After almost a year of flawless reconnect, my iMac* suddenly began failing to reconnect or even list my SSID after waking from sleep. It showed everything else in the neighborhood, but my own station had been blacklisted somehow.
    I could get a connection eventually, but it took 10 or 20 or more on/off cyles of the wifi radar symbol. It got to be very annoying. All the other computers including macs and PCs and ipads that visit my house had no problem. This included a MacBook with the same operating system (but a different wifi card).
    I didn't write anything down at first so I'm not sure if it was triggered by an update. It might have started after some of my neighbors bought new routers.
    I tried all the suggestions I could find on all the forums, including clearing the keys from key manager, clearing the preferred stations, etc. No luck. Sometimes it would reconnect immediately but the next time it could be very stubborn.
    I knew I was getting closer to the snag when I read about 802.11d and country codes. I looked in the system log (kernel.log) with the console and found these lines repeated:

    The number of times this message appeared exactly matched the number of retries that were necessary. The last entry would have my own country code (Finland) and a much longer list of supported channels:

    There are three (illegal ?) routers in my neighborhood advertising TW as the country. (Taiwan maybe?) I discovered how to see the country codes from my neighbors' routers:

    Press the Wi-Fi label in the list on the left, not the one on the right-hand side that shows if you hit "Network".
    I have an Airport Extreme dual band, and had the 2.4 Ghz on channel 13 and the 5 Ghz on channel 48, to stay clear of other channels in my neighborhood. I began to suspect that these channels may be overlooked or at least given last choice because they were not in the Supported Channels list for TW.
    The behavior of protocol 802.11d is to scan for a country code from one of the nearby routers. The question is, what is the search order? You would think it would start with your own router, but maybe they were not on the list because the channels I picked are not valid in all areas. Or maybe it just starts on channel 1 and mine came in last at 13.
    So I dropped the 2.4 Ghz channel to channel 2. Immediately the connection became 100% reliable.  My explanation could be bogus, but it has worked reliably all week, not a single failure, which means about 30 restarts from sleep, plus a lot of manually run on/off sleep/wake cycles. Before this fix, I could knock myself offline with just one on/off cycle.
    Unanswered questions: This is a desktop machine, so why is it so worried that I may have moved to another country since the last session an hour ago? Why can't I set the country code manually?
    p.s. Just as one last check I just now switched back to channel 13. It took 10 tries to connect. Back to channel 2, connected immediately.

  • Connecting to WiFi stops 3G?

    1. Is there such a thing as autoconnect to familier networks?Meaning If i connect once to wifi network, will it always connect to it, even if encrypted?
    2.IF answer to (1) is yes:
    If I'm about to enter an area with a Wifi network that my Nokia 701 automatically connects to,     will it connect to it and stop using 3G? Meaning, does it use only Wifi, and not 3G, when connected to Wifi?
    3. Is there an option to make wifi automatically connect to an UNLOCKED wifi network? Meaning I'm entering my office with my phone for a first time, wifi on - will it automatically connect to the open network in the office?

     To answer question one, once you have connected to a Wi-Fi network the phone will remember that network and connect to it again automatically. However, you will need to set it's priority above your mobile 3G connection.
     So, for question two. Your phone will automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi access point once it's in range providing that it is given a higher priority in your destinations list. The best thing to do is to set 3G as the lowest priority in destinations and all known Wi-Fi access points above 3G.
     Lastly, your phone will not automatically connect to open Wi-Fi networks unless you have manually connected in the past and the phone has remembered that access point in your destinations list.

  • WIFI connect only after reboot

    On 4.0.1-1-ARCH, Desktop = KDE 4.14.7.
    Since a recent update, I seem to have a wifi issue with random connections. I thought that was related to the following discussion: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=196584
    But the problem was not solved by the latest update of wpa_supplicant as supposed to be according to the trend.
    I initially tried to review my connection setup manually and ended up with dhcpcd waiting for carrier until time was out. Then I tried automatic connection setup tools such as NetworkManager and eventually wicd.
    With wicd, the symtom I get is just that: every first boot of the day fails and I just have to reboot to get a connection ! Maybe this is an obvious symptom of something but I can't find out. If this talks to you ...

    Here are some things to try:
    1. Be sure that Airport is at the top of the list in System Preferences > Network. And, be sure that your preferred network is at the top of the list in System Preferences > Network > Advanced.
    2. Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
    Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop.
    Restart.
    Try airport. Try your network. Try your browser.
    3. Try creating a new location from System Preferences > Network and then deleting the older one.
    4. Create a new admin user account and see if it works from there.
    5. Do a repair install of Sno. Just install Sno over Sno as though doing an upgrade installation. Do all the networking/internet tasks at the end of the installation if possible.

  • Bluetooth autoconnect

    I am trying to get my iphone 5 S to automatically connect to my car's bluetooth when bluetooth is switched on my iphone.
    The device is paired, no problems at all. The problem is that when i get in the car and switch on bluetooth on my phone from the handy swipe-up control centre, it will not connect automatically. I have to go to settings, bluetooth, wait for the device list to populate, then look for and choose the device and then press connect.
    How can I get it to autoconnect? (in the way that wifi does for instance when you get home)

    I have this exact same issue with an Alpine head unit model CDE-W235BT with the latest firmware revision (v01.27). I contacted Alpine support regarding this. I was informed that it was an "iPhone thing" as Droids arn't effected.
    For whatever reason, BT *must* be enabled on my iPhone 5 before I turn on the ignition for it to auto-connect. Otherwise, if I turn on the ignition and then enabled BT on the iPhone, the connection will not estabilish unless I manually tell it to connect from the Settings menu on the phone. It's really annoying.
    I'm not sure if it's a bug, but rather by design. Hopefully someone from Apple can confirm this.
