Wifi & Bluetooth not showing/connecting

I am having issues with my wifi connecting. It won't even show networks when I know they are there. I discoved yesterday it's the same with the Bluetooth.
Any easy fixes?

don't know if it will help but try turning the bluetooth off and then retry the wifi connection.  I have not had your issue but I have had regular wifi disconnections etc with bluetooth on.
a full restore is a good idea and will most likely fix your issue, but remember if you have wifi problems later on try turning the bluetooth off.

  • IPhone 5's Bluetooth Not Staying Connecting For Continuity Support on Yosemite

    Devices:
Macbook Pro Mid-2010 running OSX 10.10.2
    Iphone 5 running iOS 8.1.3
*NOTE: I understand that due to the version of the Bluetooth protocol in my machine, not all continuity features are available (Handoff, Air Drop, MBP Instant Hotspot)
However SMS to IMessage and the ability to make and receive calls from my Mac should be OK according to Apple's system requirements one-sheeter:
System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support
    ================================================================================ =====================
    Here's my problem.
I finally took the plunge last night and updated my iPhone 5 from 7.1 to 8.1.3 to access the iCloud Drive and additional continuity features integrated into Yosemite.
When I tried to pair my iPhone 5 with my MBP over Bluetooth, all seemed to go well for the first 5 seconds.
    - Both devices were in discovery mode.
    - Mac saw the phone and displayed a security code
    - iPhone displayed the same security code and asked if I would like to pair with MBP
    - Pairing took place. Each devices Bluetooth profile / device showed up in my MBP Bluetooth's Preferences  and in my iPhone's Bluetooth.
    - 5 seconds later, there's no connection between devices.
    My iPhone displays:
"Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure [Macbook Pro] is turned on and in range." (The phone is 5 inches away)
Then sometimes I get this message:
"Connection Unsuccessful: [Macbook Pro] is not supported.
No rhyme or reason between the two either.
Here's the baffling part: When I activate my Phone's HotSpot function, the Bluetooth works and connects with my MBP allowing it to use my cell phone network's data for internet connectivity.
I don't understand what is going on or how to correct this? Can anyone succinctly explain how to correct this problems in layman terms?
If the devices can communicate long enough to exchange security codes and verify their identities, then use Hotspot,  there is clearly a data exchange happening. Where is the break down taking place when it comes time to stay connected to so I can continue to use the limited continuity features.
I've seen this question posted before by people having problems with many different model years of MBP including the most recents models, so I know it's not mutually exclusive to my model year, but cannot seem to find clarity on an answer.

I wish Apple would have provided more detail on how it worked. I wouldn't have posted this if I new that SMS & Mac Calling had nothing to do with Bluetooth pairing.
You mean like this? Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
Please note how Apple articulates this though.
    Check your settings
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Sometimes things have to be explained in more detail for the general consumer who has been conditioned for decades to think about wireless  cellphone audio / light data to [anything other device else] connectivity in a certain fashion. That is to say Bluetooth dependent ...
For the non-technical person, which overwhelmingly many Apple users are, they would see that bulleted point and think if Bluetooth is not paired and active, then they would not received the full scope of their Continuity features.
It would have been better for the copywriter who wrote this to (*) footnote this entry and explain that while Bluetooth recognition may be necessary between Yosemite and iPhone, SMS Push to iMessage and Mac Calling does not require an actively paired connection as these functions are dependent on iCloud and both devices being registered on the same WiFi network.
Thank you to all who helped me get my mind around and figure this out.
It has also opened my eyes to how iCloud has become a critical link in Apple's overall walled garden  and business strategy.

  • My Lacie Big Extreme Hard drive does not show connection speed

    *My Concern*
Hi I have a Lacie Big Extreme Hard drive, which although works fine is not showing its connection, shows up in the system profiler as 'Connection Speed Unknown'. -Should I be worried? I have other drives connected to my G5 Dual 2 gig machine and no problem their they all show their connection speeds.
*Other Firewire 'Unknown Speed connection' related Problem*
I had a DVD LaCie Dual layer portable Firewire drive which recently suffered from the same problem and I had to send it back. This was due to it slowly developing a fault of not being able to burn dual layer disks properly.
*What I have done to try and remedy the situation.*
I have been able to do the following but I am afraid with no change in the system Profiler;-
1 Trashed the whole system and rebuild
    2 repair my permissions
3 empty out all my caches with OnyX (third party app) version 1.8.5
4 Disconnected all drives and reconnected them one by one to see if there are any anomalies within the system
5 switched my G5 off removed the plug from the wall waited 30 sec for it to reset itself this was the 1st attempt. On my 2nd attempt I then cold booted the machine and reset Pram settings
6 used Tech Tools Pro 4 version 4.1.2
    7. Replaced Power supply of the offending unit (didn't have to but I wanted to be safe and eliminate this fronm the equation.
9.tried changing around the order in the chain to which the drives were connected to the G5but alas no joy!
    Summery
So my concern is if a device which is Firewire shows up in the system profiler as connection speed unknown should I begin to worry even though it appears to be functioning.
Thank you ahead of time for any help on this matter
    *Supporting evidence*
Please see below a shot of my System profiler so you can see what I mean:-
    *(Important Note)*
The Lacie Big disk has 800/400 Firewire connection speeds I have connected it straight to my G5s firewire 800 port then daisy chained the LaCie's via its other 800 port to the two other 800 Firewire Hard drives.
When the LaCie DVD DL drive was connected, I connected it straight to the 400 firewire port. As it needed direct access to the G5 for it to function optimally.

Hi BDAqua - thanks a lot for replying - really appreciate your help. I was using Time machine to back up on the old lacie drives that I have - I just backed up on both lacies and they backed up faster for some reason but that might have been because they were very small back ups as I did full back ups on Tuesday night - this is the info under the USB section > hardware > about my mac - it didn't show the speed like the example you gave me though but it still backed none the less  :

    Dear Jayas
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is James.
If the drive is working fine on one system but failing on another especially with the "clicking" sound this is an issue with the system not being able to supply enough power to power the device.
These devices require power from the machine to make them operate if there isn't enough power supplied the drive will fail to work. This is why you are having no issues with one system but are on another.

  • Broadcom wifi chipset not showing adapter

I have a BCM4313 which is using the brcmsmac module, but iwconfig, ip addr, and 'ls /sys/class/net/' do not show my wifi adapter.
For the record, in any other distro that has more automation my wifi card works right out of the box.
I was able to setup a wifi connection in the network-manager, but I can't use it.
    [root@moniker ~]# ls /sys/class/net/

I tried to rmmod and modprobe the module as some articles suggested, but that didn't do anything either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, I guess a reboot is all I needed after doing all that. Thanks.

  • Wifi Does not Re-Connect Lumia 610

I have had my new Lumia 610 for a week and the phone will not reconnect to my home Wifi after sleeping or going out of range and then back in range without turning my wireless router off/on. I've tried everything in the discussion forums from turning off Data connection, toggling Wifi off/on and a complete phone reset (annoying) and not ever touching the internet sharing switch.  This should be a basic function of the phone to connect to a known Wifi network when in range, whether data connection is turned on or off.  I have turned off the screen saver to make this a bit more manageable (It's too impractical to keep the charger plugged in all the time) but my Windows 7 laptop, macbook pro, and multiple Iphones all connect with no problems time after time. DOES NOKIA HAVE A FIX FOR THIS? These Wifi discussion forums seem to back date quite a few months. I think I will exchange for Android platform phone.
In the Wifi section, the phone can see the Wifi and displays secure underneath, but it will not re-connect!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You have an old model  Netgear which does not have Genie. However, the router log should still give you some important information. Next time your phone wont connect, log into the router and check the log for listings with your phones mac address. It should show the phone requesting access and then the router either allowing or denying access and reason why not. If the log does not give this info then you can still intercept the communication by installing a software called Wireshark.
Have you tried your phone with another modem? I have 3 Netgear, 2 D-Link, 2 Linksys, 2 Huawei, 21 Belkin and 1 TP Link router. Believe you me, they all have their quirks and have problems connecting with certain devices. Haven't found one that works all the time with everything. From my experience, if you have to restart the router to reconnect then it is probably the routers fault and vice versa if you have to restart the phone to restablish connection.

  • Wifi is not auto connect after resume from sleep

I keep my Mac Book Pro up-to-date with software updates.
    I recently update to OS X 10.8.3 (12D78).
Since then when I open my laptop after closing it and put it to sleep the wifi connection does not re-connect automatically.
I have to click on the wifi sign near the clock and select the network to connect to.
How can I make it connect automatically like it used to?

Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always - in no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router

  • Wifi will not stay connected after Lion upgrade - help?

I upgraded to Lion last week on my iMac and now my computer will not stay connected to wifi...  it is fine if I restart my computer, but then it looses its connection, settings when it goes in to screen saver mode - very frustrating, please help!

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

Hello I have a PC Notebook Compaq 15 h000ss, I have just installed Windows 7 64 bits and the wifi icon is not showing, the wifi adapter is not showing either in device manager, and the light on the f12 wifi key is always on. Please, any idea on how can I get my wifi adapter working? (it was working before in Windows 8.1) Thank you

Hi: Please do the following and I will post the link to the wireless card driver you need... Go to the Device Manager and click on the Network Controller device.  At the top of the Network Controller window, click on the Details tab. Now you see a Property drop down list that is defaulted to Device Description. Drop down on that and select the second item (Hardware ID's). Now you see 3-4 lines of characters, the top line starting with PCI\VEN. Post that top line of characters.
