WiFi Booster Compatability

I have a Motorola combo router/modem, and would like to get a WiFi Booster.
Will the airport express base station work with my Internet setup? If I have a second laptop that is Windows-based, will that get a better, uninterrupted wireless boost, as well?
Or, should I get the same brand (Motorola) of a booster, for better results?
Thanks for any help.

Hey Chris, I was having the EXACT same disconnection problem you're having. After talking to a gazillion people, I finally got the right answer from a guy at work (He was an IT Private Consultant who played on my craps table..), and the funniest thing about it was how simple the answer was.  What is most likely causing your problem is the channel that you have the router set on. Most routers have a minimum of 11 channels to choose from and some channels, usually the default channel, are being used by most of the people who live around you and have a wireless setup like you. Go into your settings and set the channel at 11 and see how that goes. Then, if you're still having the same problem, systematically go down one channel every couple of days until you find the problem's fixed.
I hope this helps :-)
Oh yeah, if you're using a laptop, make sure you stay out of the kitchen because microwaves play havoc on WIFI...
Good Luck!!

working with windows 7 and hp 6515 - just installed a power booster and printer no longer finds computer when try to scan to computer

    Hi @Eflyer,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your scan to computer is no longer working after installing a wifi booster, with your HP Photosmart 6515, on Windows 7. I am happy to help you with this connection issue!
    Please see the following:
This YouTube video on extending the wireless signal. Extending Wireless Network Range.

Most likely it just needs to be reconnected to the proper network.
Hope these guides help, and have a good day!

  • What is a good WiFi Booster?

My wife and I do a lot of traveling in a travel trailer. Most RV Parks offer free WiFi connections but the signals are too weak. We are interested in buying a WiFi booster to use with my MacBook Pro (late 2009) and my iPad 2.
Dose any one have experience with WiFi boosters and can offer some suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help and support.

I am not sure this is what I need. I need to receive a stronger wifi connection in a campground or rv park that will increase the free wifi signal connection so I can log onto their wifi network.
Wifi can only travel so far and then it starts tapering off in signal strength and other factors of interference, metal structures, the environment etc. start reducing your signal.
You can get better reception in some cases with extra devices on your end, but the real cure is and or all of:
1: move your computer closer to the source of the signal
2: extend the signal source so it's closer to you (OpenMesh)
3: boost the source power to extend it's range (Wifi booster)
    4: reduce interference (outside attenna)
Basically your at the mercy of the trailer park. Some can't handle a lot of people on the network at the same time, so they only allow wifi access at the main station to reduce the users.
Now it's good if your at a top of the line park with powerful fast connections and Openmesh strung through the park giving a awesome signal that you can watch Netflix 24/7, but that's unlikely traveling.
Your likely going to get dial up like speeds at the main station in rutal locations.
If you really want something better, you need to get a laptop connect USB from your local cell phone carrier, then you can get the Internet just about anywhere.

  • Wifi booster

In the room where cable modem/LinkSys router are installed, I get >15 Mbps download on  iPad, but  iMac (10.7.4) gets  <3, sometimes <1.  More than likely the home security system is interfering (it's located between the two).  Is there a particular/preferred wifi booster that would work with my Apple equipment?  Thanks.

    Multimedia over Coax Alliance
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) is a trade group promoting a specification they have developed that uses coaxial cables to connect consumer electronics and home networking devices in homes. It allows both data communication and the transfer of audio and video streams.
MoCA was established in 2004 to promote the whole home distribution of high definition content over the existing coaxial cabling. MoCA Ethernet bridges can be used to supply network and multimedia connectivity to a TV, computer, game console, laptop, etc. while devices with integrated MoCA support can interface directly without the use of an adapter. Coaxial cable is resistant to interference and outlets are generally found in rooms intended for TV viewing.
The current MoCA specification can support multiple streams of HD video, deliver up to 800 Mbit/s net throughputs and offer consistent throughput via parameterized quality of service (PQoS).[1]
Can take advantage of existing home coax wiring if available
As a wired standard, does not compete with wireless networks for spectrum use
Can provide uplink network connectivity to wireless access points
    PQoS for managed bandwidth
Products integrating MoCA technology are found in the service provider, custom installer and consumer/retail channels.[2] Applications:
    Multiroom Digital Video Recording (DVR)
    Over The Top (OTT) Content
    Gaming

  • USB wifi booster

Can anyone recommed a USB WIFI booster that works well with the mac book pro?
    Brett

I googled and came here.  It's hard to find good info.  I use an RT8187 chipset one but realtek no longer support or update the mac driver, the installer file crashes, and although it's possible to get it working, it's hard to recommend it to non-geeks (and annoying enough to use if you are a geek as you need to have to periodically reboot, at least on my system).
what have people used that worked flawlessly?

And now you have Airport Utility you can set it up. download a manual for Airport Utility if you don't know how to use it, you will not need any software.

  • Netgear wifi booster for my IPad

I'm trying to setup a netgear wifi booster for my IPad but it won't communicate connect to the internet

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Wifi booster, Wifi booster

My MacBook Pro won't recognise the wifi booster we have but recognises our homehub and connects with no problems. Can anyone help, thanks!

What is the make & model of your "Wi-Fi booster?"

  • WiFi Booster or WiFiFoFum?

Is there a similar application such as WiFi Booster or WiFiFoFum?
These two applications are no longer on the iTunes Store.

The TC is a wireless router with a built in hard drive. It can operate as a router only, or a hard drive only, or both a router and hard drive.
The TC can wirelessly "extend" or "repeat" a wireless signal that is produced by another Apple router, but if the TC is used with a 3rd party router or modem/router, the TC must connect to that device using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.

  • Question on WiFi boost from MBP

I am moving across the office and will be out of range of the wifi I use currently. It is a secure network that I have access to log in, but not access to add a booster for the router.
Does belkin or anyone else make a booster for the MBP I can use to receive the signal?

could try something like this http://eshop.macsales.com/Item_XLR8YourMac.cfm?ID=9851&Item=EDMEW7718UN
If you know the encryption key and the SSID I don't see why you couldn't use a booster, that may help out others in the office a linksys wrt-gl is like $60-70 and if you put a hyperwrt firmware on it you can do just about anything.

  • Westell Versaport 7500 as wifi booster only

(The existing q and a on this in the DSL forum, I think, is too terse for a newbie.)
Is there a way to use this old DSL/router as just a wifi signal booster?
I want to get a wifi signal from some sort of verizon fios router behind a wall to my old Macintosh's Airport/wifi card. This scenario will not work without a Netgear WN2000RPTv2 in between to boost the wifi signal. I'd like to substitute for the Netgear, if possible.
    So I want to go:
From the router which has the internet access via wifi to my Westell (presently the Netgear booster) and then via wifi or via ethernet onto my ppc Mac running Tiger.
I've heard the Westell does have a bridge mode which might allow this function, but my source may not have understood what I am trying to do.
Unfortunately it would probably take a youtube video or an existing explanation somewhere - I'd really need basic, step by step instructions.
Please let me know if you have any leads. Thanks.

I believe there is a way to do that.
What is the brand and model of the router that is handling the public IP ?

    Hi again frnkiee,
Thank you for the quick reply!
To answer your first question, the Broadcom 4322 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN module - 582564-001 is 1x1. For the second question, the only different between the two part numbers is a difference in regional compatibility for the adapters.
    I hope this helps!

  • Problem joining netgear wifi booster

I have purchased a netgear WNIFI booster WN1000RP as I have poor wifi in parts of the house.  I can see the network on my ipad but am unable to join it using the same password as my router. Anyone else had same problem!

Can other devices connect through the netgear booster?
My iPad Mini performs average to poor with WIFI networks outside the room.
Line of sight between iPad en Router / Booster works best to be able to connect.
The iPad can receive the incoming WIFI signal, though the router can't "hear" the iPad
because it's outgoing signal is to weak for the distance.
Move closer to the router or establish a line of sight.
