Wifi Broadband speedtest slow and inconsistent results?

Hi,
I recently purchased an Iphone 3gs, but i seem to be having a problem with my wifi speeds. Iv downloaded the app Speedtest.net on my phone and a friends phone to compare speed results on my wifi network. He was able to recieve 3.3mb download speed were i was able to only recieve 0.6mb.so i tried various wifi combatible systems (ie. laptop etc) to see what speed they come up with and they recieve 3.3mb. so i came to the conclusion it must be the phone, went into CPW and they replaced it but the new phone is exactly the same does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Many thanks
Rich

What model of router are you using? Do you have the same speed issue if you connect to someone else's WiFi network? Have you checked that your routers firmware is up to date? I assume that your WiFi network is encrypted, disable the encryption and then test to see if the speed improves - if it does then try a different form of encryption. Check to see if the wireless is set to only b or g and if so try changing to b & g for example.
Report back and we'll see if we can't find a solution

  • EA4500 speeds very slow and inconsistent

Purchased the EA4500 a few months ago. Worked fine for a week or two.  Now my download speeds bounce between 2mbps-20mbps and its constantly stuttering.  My modem gives me 100mbps when im wired in so I know for a fact that the modem is not the issue.  I'm using both the 5ghz band and 2.4ghz band and both of them give me terrible results. The speed is so slow and fluxuates so often it's barely usuable. I've tried changing settings with the media prioitization, I've tried changing the MTU size, I've tried using different channels, I've tried rebooting the router, setting it back to factory settings and even tried using the classic firmware and that just locked me out of my router since the router login and password no longer worked (default and ones Ive set).  I'm at a loss here and getting really fed up with this garbage router. Is there any fix for this? I've scoured the internet looking for an answer and all I've seen is other people problems never being fixed.

Yes, I'm currently using the most current firmware which is version 2.1.41.164606.  I've tried all previous firmware versions and the speed is still very slow and inconsistent on every one.  I've rebooted to factory twice now and tried changing channels, MTU sizes and channel width on both the 2.4 ghz and 5ghz networks.  It worked fine for about a month and suddenly it barely works now.  If anyone has a solution that would be great but If not I'll just get a netgear N750 when I have the money.

  • Time capsule is slow and inconsistent

It seems that the wifi is much slower than my old airport extreme, and inconsistent in terms of connectibility and strength. Any hints? I've been at this for two days.

    All,
Maybe trying some of these suggestions will help?
    *_Slow Time Capsule Transfer Speeds_*
    *Initial Backup Best Over Ethernet*
It is recommended that you perform the initial full backup via ethernet, then all subsequent backups via wireless.
    *Transmit Power & Wide Channels*
If you are using the 802.11n only (5 GHz) radio mode, you can also select to use wide channels, which provide higher data throughput in your network.
    Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
    Click “Manual Setup”.
    Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
    Click the “Wireless” tab.
Click “Wireless Options...” at the bottom of the window.
Adjust the “Transmit Power” to 100%.
Put a check mark in the box labeled “Use Wide Channels”.
    Click “Done”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
    *Anti-Virus Software*
Are you running anti-virus software. Disable it and see if network speeds improve. The discussion boards are filled with users who are experiencing degraded network speeds due to their anti-virus software.
One poster observed: “I had the exact same problem 5mins ago, it had taken 2 hours to back up 2GB, I realized I installed Sophos anti virus a couple of days ago. When I turned that off my back up is speeding through.”
Another contributor stated, “I am doing the first backup to my time capsule, about 71 Gb, It seems to be going about 1 Gb per hour. is this seem OK? I tried the ethernet connection and the speed was about the same. It has been going all night and after 12 hours it is at only 12 Gb of 71….I found the problem, I uninstalled Norton and the problem went away. It backed up in about 3 or 4 hours”
    *Wireless Security Issue*
Some who have experienced degraded network speeds have isolated the problem to their wireless security setup. Try this:
    Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
    Click “Manual Setup”.
    Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
    Click the “Wireless” tab.
    Change “Wireless Security” to “None”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
Granted, this is far from desirable. But it does help to isolate the problem in you instance. Maybe simply resetting the security with a new password will help?
Let us know if any of these procedures helped.
    Cheers!

I have reported the fault a number of times, but have been told 'we cannot find a fault', and line tests report there is no problem.
The quiet line test sounded ok, everything is plugged into the master socket with a filter.
This is the same as a problem i had before, which was fixed after posting on this forum.
Hopefully someone who can help will see this and be able to get it fixed.
    Thanks

  • WiFi Connection Gets Slower and Slower

I have a TG862G/CT Arris (Comcast) router. The WiFi connection worked great for more than 6 months. I use Chrome browser with Windows 7.
Recently (last 3+ weeks) something changed. (I haven't move or blocked the router; still connecting with exact same computers.) When I first connect I have very fast connection (response), but after 5 to 10 minutes the response gets slower and slower and finally pages don't load. I get "waiting" messages in the lower left hand side of the screen. The browser tab finally shows the name of the web site, but the screen remains blank.
I would appreciate any help with how to trouble shoot this problem so it can be resolved.
    Thanks and best regards.

    Hi Cam
Are you using a 3rd party router or an Apple Airport Unit? If the latter, make sure you are using the latest Airport Firmware. If not sure, open Airport Utility in your Applications>Utilities folder. Latest version is 7.4.2. If not, update the firmware via the Base Station Menu (you need to first click on your Airport Unit in the Utilities panel). Otherwise, a soft (unplug/wait/plugin) or hard reset of your Airport Unit might help.
If a 3rd party router, make sure the firmware is up-to-date. If it is, then a reset of the unit may help.
Also, the Airport card in the machine, or the router unit may be failing. Former case, run the Apple Hardware Test - note this Apple document is for mid 2007 machines and later.
As an aside, when creating a thread with a question, best to leave the "question box" in your original post panel checked. Otherwise, it may not be apparent you need assistance.

  • After iOS 8 update wifi is so slow and battery life is much worse

After installing iOS8 on my 5s the wifi and 3G has slowed remarkably down. The facebook app now doesn't refresh unless I turn the phone off and on again and safari takes an age to load it's pages. Also the battery life is even worse than before. I used the maps yesterday for 1.5 hours for a trip and it took me from full battery down to 10% in that time. This is really irritating me now, will it be fixed?

Like you I have a 4S running on iOS 8, and since the upgrade to 8 my battery drains like crazy.  I'm not experiencing the wifi issues that some of the other posters are having, but the rapid battery drain seems to be a common issue.  I keep hoping Apple will address this with their updates for iOS 8, but it always seems to be overlooked.

  • Simple Bundle file copy slow and inconsistent

We are running ZCM 11.2.3a and are experiencing slowness with some bundles.
We have a simple bundle to copy a small file to the workstation.
Sometimes the file copy is abnormally long and other times it's instant for the same bundle.
Any ideas why this would be happening.
    Thanks

Try enabling Debug Logging and ZMD-Message logging to see if that helps.
    Also -
Try setting up a test Location for a Device and only point that location
to Server1 for everything. Then Server 2.....
Look to see if one server is giving u issues.......

  • Broadband speed slow and drops

Hi Just got Sky broadband and not really happy with the speed i am getting, it goes between 8 down to 2, really annoying especially when my neighbour can get between 12 & 13!! This is a screen shot of my stats, any ideas?Any help would be appreciated?thanks  PortStatusTxPktsRxPktsCollision PktsTx b/sRx b/sUp TimeWANPPPoE8314311434200002:07:47LANUp609003855503533241686902:09:07WLANUp877686882104668458502:08:44Broadband LinkDownstreamUpstreamConnection Speed10239 kbps670 kbpsLine Attenuation26.0 dB15.5 dBNoise Margin8.3 dB21.21 dB

I don't know whether or not Sky still do the 10 day line training when your speeds can vary a lot, I thought I'd read on here that they stopped doing it.If they don't do it then your noise margin is too high especially upstream. Lift the phone, press any one number on the keypad and listen for noise on the line hissing or crackling. For a quiet line test dial 17070 option 4 and if you do have noise try plugging just a phone (no filter) into the test socket. If the noise is still there phone Sky and report a line fault (noise) not a broadband fault.

  • Wifi connection very slow and interrupted after several minutes

My wifi connection is interrupted after several minutes. I can restart the connection with wifi assisted, diagnose tool. It indicates always ISP failure. When I go through the assistant, it sows that the network connection was changed, and the wifi connection is back. But only for some minutes, then I have to go the the assistant again, and again and again. Also the wifi protocoll tool did not help me.
Meantime I don't have any problems with my IPad or Iphone.
In the web I found plenty of other users with MacBook Pro (Retina) OS X Yosemite, Version 10.10.2 with similar problems. When will apple fix this bug?
Do somebody has in idea how to fix it?
    Thanks for your support!
    Bird

You posted in the support forum for the Apple routers......AirPort Express, Airport Extreme and Time Capsule.....the products pictured below:
But, your post seems to describe a connection issue that you are experiencing with your MacBook Pro.  We are not sure how an Apple router might be involved here if your other devices are connecting well.
You will likely receive a much faster and more informed response if you post your question in the support area for the MacBook Pro linked just below:

  • Sleep works slow and inconsistent

I don't know exactly when this problem started, but probably after the last few updates for 10.7.5. It is an older MacBook Pro (about 2 years)
The sleep function works strange now. It takes 25 seconds until the display shuts down, and still I can hear the harddisk spinning. Also, the small white light on the front side of the MBP goes on, but is not slowly flashing like it was before.
When I close the lid, the display shuts down, white light goes on (still not flashing) but I hear either the darddisk or the fan still spinning.
I tried with another user account, it is the same. I also tried with the sleep dialog window which pops up when I push the main power-on button on the top right , outside of the keyboard- it is the same, it takes 25 seconds.
    Any idea?

    No one here?
Update: I have played a little bit with the gravity sensor, letting my MBP "fall down" one foot and then catching it again (uh!), then it sometimes does go to sleep like it should, with the light in front flashing. Still, I could not get this result every try, but only sporadic. I am not sure if this is related.

  • Inconsistent results with localtimestamp and current_timestamp

TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
I'm getting incorrect and inconsistent results with current_timestamp and localtimestamp:
With SQL, localtimestamp computes the wrong offset (appears to use 1987-2006 DST rules):
    select
    dbtimezone
    , sessiontimezone
    , current_timestamp
    , current_timestamp + numtodsinterval(18,'day') as current_timestamp18

    17-MAR-10 09.27.17.376000000 AM
however, in PL/SQL, both current_timestamp and localtimestamp return the wrong hour value, and adding 18 to current_timestamp shows it is using 1987-2006 DST rules (1st sunday of april)/ note that this happens in straight PL/SQL and in embedded SQL (same results selecting from tables other than DUAL):
    begin

    is this a known bug?
is there a patch or a work-around for XE?
    are other datasbase versions affected?

Can't patch XE, unfortunately it comes with pre-2007 DST rules.
There is a metalink note describing how to fix the DST changes, and while it's not really a "supported" method, neither is XE- if you can get updated timezone files from a later patch set for the same release, 10gR2, on the right operating system, shutdown/startup the database the updated DST rules will be in place. The timezone files are in $ORACLE_HOME/oracore/zoneinfo.
Another unfortunately, any values already stored in the database using timestamp with local timezone datatypes for the affected period of the DST changes won't be correct, i.e. there is no 2010-03-14 02:01 (?) but with older timezone rules in place that would be a valid timestamp. The data has to be saved before updating the timezone file, and re-translated to timestamp w/local tz datatypes after the update.
IMHO storing literal timezone info isn't an ideal practice, let the client settings do the time interpretation, time is always changing. Its the interpretation of the time that gets changed. From time to time. :(

  • Ridiculously slow and unusable Broadband / BTVisio...

I am getting a problem every night this week (4 days so far) where my broadband is unusably slow.
This effects Broadband/On Demand TV/Hub Phones
Broadband and Vision on Demand TV all fine during the day.
    BUT
at the Hours 9pm-1030pm it all goes to pot.
Cannot watch ANY on demand TV - just gets v04 timout message
Broadband is unuseable - pages take 4-5 mins to load
    cannot stream media AT ALL
hub phones are rendered unuseable too
its not even possable to run the speedtester.com software as it times out each time
after about 11pm if you try again it runs everything perfectly.
    so ...
    Whats happening between 9pm and 11pm ?
    Whos causing it ?
how is this going to be fixed asap.?
BTW im on the Perranporth , Cornwall Exchange
i have reported to BT each evening, for the past 3 evenings but still the issue persists
I hope somone can help soon.

The VP stands for Virtual Path. A hot VP means that the exchange is facing capacity issues within the exchange, this in turn gives you a poor download speed is probably the simplest way to put it.
To get this raised as a fault you must complete a test on the BT speedtester site and the test usually needs to comeback as failed before they seem to take these kind of issues on board. In your case you need the speedtest result between 9-11pm
This doesn't always affect all users on the exchange, sometimes it can only affect certian users and this usually happens during peak times. When this is happening the VP is usually not running hot but it would be running close to it, I think BT Wholesale class that as amber if my memory serves me correct.
