Wifi canon pixma mp640 goes offline

why does my canon pixma mp640 go offline every time my mac goes into standby mode? the only resolution i have found is to reboot the printer, but sometimes i have to do that eight to ten times a day.

No hints??? I believe it's related to Samba. I don't know how to configure it properly, so it can find my WiFi printer.

  • Canon PIXMA MP640 WiFi on Arch Linux x86_64

I have a Canon PIXMA MP640 series multifunctional device connected wirelessly to my home router. On Windows Vista the device works flawlessly, I can print or scan without any problems. Now I decided to configure at least the printer part on my Arch Linux x86_64, which I dual-boot with Vista on the same laptop.
I went through the Wiki entry for CUPS and SAMBA. I did install all the necessary packages, that is:
    1) cups (ver. 1.4.6), ghostscript (ver. 9.01), gsfonts (ver. 1.0.7pre44) - for CUPS
    2) cnijfilter-mp640 (ver. 3.20) and its dependencies: cnijfilter-common (ver. 3.00), lib32-libcups, lib32-popt - drivers for this particular model
    3) samba (ver. 3.5.6) and gamin (ver. 0.1.10) – for SAMBA
Then I added cups and samba to DAEMONS section of the /etc/rc.conf file
    DAEMONS=(@syslog-ng !network @netfs @crond hal alsa wicd bluetooth laptop-mode !openntpd @cups @samba)
    copied Samba configuration file
    cp /etc/samba/smb.conf.default /etc/samba/smb.conf
in which I changed only one entry – name of my workgroup, and then I restarted my system.
In System Settings as root I went to Sharing→Samba and checked if everything seems fine – see print screen below.
    http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/300/samba1.png
Then in Printer Configuration I chosed New network printer and I tried to fill all the boxes with information I have about my printer – see below. I also pointed to the specific .ppd file - /usr/share/cups/model/canonmp640.ppd.
    http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6650/samba2.png
The printer name and it's localization I got from my router – see below.
    http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/3982/samba3.png
As you all see on print screen No 2 I'm getting “Bad URI – need printer name” error from CUPS. I “googled” about it, but still haven't been able to solve this issue. What am I doing wrong?

  • Help with Canon Pixma MP640

    Hi all,
Okay let me run down the steps I've done so far and what I've learned. Apparently the newest version of cups does not work with Canon printers it seems, because of an issue with usblp.
First I got a version of Cups from the AUR with usblp enabled. The package is cups-usblp 1.4.3-2.
Next I followed a guide about Arch and the MP640 here.
The good news is that now my printer is recognized and it appears that all is well. However, when I try to print a test page (as Root) or try to print something from Kword I get the error:
    "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed"
The pstocannonij file exists and I have the correct ppd installed. I'm running Arch64 and I have all of the 32bit libraries installed. I have the cups and usblp daemons active in my rc.conf.
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

I've recently bought a Canon PIXMA MP640 multifunction device and it's working perfectly on my Vista 32-bit system. Now it's time to make it work on Arch 64-bit. Is it possible to make this device work without using any 32-bit libraries? I would like my system stay clean off any 32-bit software. Unfortunately on Canon website drivers for this model are still signed as TBD, although I've found this and this.

  • Any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pixma mp640 printer connection?

Anyone have any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pimxa mp640 printer link? The two are connected manually yet the ! remains on the 'print' page next to the printer name. it was working fine until i changed the ink cartridges. Without the wireless password - which I've never had and don't supposedly need as it's not a wireless connection, I am being prevented from resuming printing.

If it's on a windows network you have to enter your (windows) log in (name/password) credentials.
This should be a 1 time event. It will remember it thereafter.

  • Canon Pixma MP640 Error B200

    Hi,
When I turn on my printer it give me B200 error. A week ago I disconnected supply cable for 12 hours and it go well.
Now I tried to disconnected already for 12 hours but this time it don't go.
I I replaced all cartridges, clean printer head with water and dry it, but it don't go.
I tried to go in service mode and green and orange led  flashing alternatively. If I try to press resume 4 times in service mode to reset ink waste, nothing happens.
    Advice???

*** DISCLAIMER *** You'll try the following advices solely on your own responsibility!
After B200 error in my MP640 (Europe version) I firstly carried out a print head cleaning method with alcohol and distilled water (6 + 6 min) proposed at [link removed per forum guidelines] (see down on the page and use Google translate if needed).
    Well, cleaning alone didn't help.
After that I found from another forum an 'open print head bay boot' (like I'm calling it...) trick which I combined with an idea of nozzle cleaning. So I managed to solve my B200 problem as follows:
    1. Turn OFF the printer and make sure there is plenty of ink left in every tank.
    2. From "Devices and Printers" open MP640 properties and further the "Maintenance" window.
    3. From Maintenance section select nozzle cleaning (all colors), preferably the 'deeper' one. And then STOP! Don't start any cycle yet.
    4. Open the print head bay (as though you were about to change inks).
    5. Turn ON power.
    6. Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left and let it go past half way.
    7. Before print carriage reaches left hand side (but after going halfway across) shut the cover.
    8. Printer's display turns now into dark color and shows text "Canon" above the 'running balls'. During that time start the cleaning cycle but don't do anything else, i.e. don't try to print the test page yet.
    9. Nozzle cleaning should start right after printer initializing.
    10. After the cleaning cycle is finished run another one without printing anything. Make sure you don't run out of any ink.
    11. Print the test page to check if additional cleaning is still needed.
I had to do the print bay boot + nozzle cleaning another time because B200 error returned quite soon after the first try. But after some more cleaning cycles and printing everything seems to be ok now. Hope this helps with your printer!

  • Canon PIXMA MP640

I have MP640 on wired/wireless network under 10.6.1. I have installed the latest (10.26.1) Canon drivers and get devices/queues for USB and Network. I can print and scan via USB without issue. I can scan via network without issue, and I can print to my HP CP4005 over the same network and from a Windows7 laptop to the MP640, but if I print via the network from my MacBook Pro the job remains in the queue.
Canon support are at a loss.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

In order to print via the wired or wireless network, you do not need the Canon IJ Network mentioned in the other post. This is only needed to use the MP Navigator software.
As long as you have the v10.26 driver installed on the Mac, you should be able to add it as a network printer. However, unlike the scanner portion of the MP640 that appears very quickly in Add printer Default view as a Bonjour device, the printer can take up several seconds before it appears, with its Kind showing as canonijnetwork as mentioned in the other post. If you select this entry, a new network printer queue will be created. If you already have the USB printer queue, which you may have used when trying to print to the networked printer - hence the job remaining in the queue, you will now have two queues under the Printer heading and another queue under the Scanner heading.

  • CANON PIXMA MP640 - Communication error after a print or two

I've been very happy with this wireless machine until the last couple of weeks, when I've begun getting "a communication error has occurred" in the print window.
I re-run the Canon setup CD, download the latest driver for Snow Leopard (10.26.2.0) and all is well - for one or two operations. Then the communication error returns....
I can't think of any particular new application or programme I've installed to provoke the issue.
It's become exasperating and I've resorted to using the USB connection, which defeats the purpose.
    Any suggestions most welcome!

I had one "USB printer" set up, it worked like a charm.
I tried various "LAN printers", scanning worked fine, I could manage the printer, I could even print test pages (to check if the print nozzles where fine) from the management tool. But I could not print to the printer via LAN using the Print menu command.
I tried installing new driver software, it did not help. I tried reconfiguring the printer via the web interface. It did not help. I then tried deleting the "printers" I had created, except for the USB printer. I did the following:
    1. Opened System Preferences, Print & Fax
    2. Deleted all printers except the USB printer
    3. Clicked the + to add a new printer
    4. Selected the Default tab, and could then see the printer there.
    5. I added that printer, and could then see the printer with the canonijnetwork added to it.
    6. I added that, and now I can print using that "printer"!
Thanks a lot for the help. Please notice that, at least for me, it was essential to go to the Default tab and ad the printer from there, and that it was a two-step process (add the printer without canonijnetwork, then add it with canonijnetwork).
I wonder if anyone gets their MP640 printer to work via LAN or wireless without any problem (on OS X 10.6).
Anyhow, I can now also print successfully using LAN (the printer is connected to the router via LAN, my MacBook Pro is connected to the router wirelessly).

  • Communication error has occurred - Canon PIXMA printer

This was driving me nuts! I tried many of the other ideas offered in these discussions, but nothing worked. Sometimes my Canon PIXMA MP640 WiFi printer would work, usually it wouldn't.  I would get "A communication error has occurred" message on my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and the print job would just stay in the queue until I deleted it. Most of the time I needed  to re-enter the network password at the printer BEFORE EVERY PRINT JOB which was a pain because the password was 10 characters long and I could only dial in each letter one at a time.
If you are having similar trouble, before you do anything CHECK THE WIFI SIGNAL STRENGTH USING THE PRINTER MENUS!  On my model, this was done by going from the Home menu to Settings->Device Settings->LAN Settings->Confirm LAN settings->Print LAN Details.  If the signal strength on the printout shows less than 50%, there is too much interference from other electronics in the area (or the printer is too far from the router).  In my case, the printer was in the next room, i.e., not too far from the router so I knew it had to be EM interference.
At first, my signal strength was showing 36%.  Then I moved the printer into the same room as the wifi router, within 7ft and directly in line of sight of it and it went to 62%. I thought it should be much higher, so I moved the printer to within 4ft and it went to 80%.  Then I unplugged the LCD TV (which was NOT turned on at any time) that was on the counter nearby, and it jumped to 90%.
After months of poking at this problem and finally resigning to the idea that the printer was broken, I tried this and now it works perfectly as long as the TV is unplugged.  I plan on moving the router away from the TV so I won't have to unplug it whenever I print.
    Hope this helps!

I've wrestled with this off and on with this printer ever since I got it. Just checked and my signal was at 44%. Guess that could be it!... guess I'll do some relocating of the router, boost the signal or run an ethernet line. Never though the signal being that low would cause this many print errors.
I thought is was just happening when the printer would go to sleep... or not used for a few days.
    Thanks!

  • Printer goes offline after reboot (windows vista)

I'm running the latest version of bonjour for windows and vista is running the latest patches. Here's the problem: I can use bonjour to add my HP Laserjet with no problems and its prints perfectly. All is good until I need to restart the computer. After reboot, the printer is listed as offline and nothing I've tried can change the status. I can delete the printer and rerun bonjour and it works again until the next reboot. I don't know what changed but I use to be able to print all the time without this problem. Anyone have this problem or any solutions.
    Thanks

Same problem with here, except I've got three computers: one Mac and two WinXP (SP3) pc's. The mac has no problems but both PC's see my Canon PIXMA ip1800 as offline after they reboot. A re-run of the Bonjour setup fixes the problem until the next reboot. I've got the printer connected to an Airport Extreme Gigabit N base station. All software and firmware (on everything) is up to date. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Canon Pixma MX 450 printer showing offline with OS X 10.7.5

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I joke with Canon's IT department that I keep them employed! I was calling them at least twice a week for a few weeks to try to fix the problem, but was unable to find a resolution. I returned a less expensive Canon printer today, in a desperate attempt to get my wireless connection to work! I just installed a Canon Pixma MX450 wireless print, copy, scan, fax with my OS X 10.7.5. Everything seemed to be going great. The setup was fine when communicating between the router and printer; none of those connections failed. However, once I installed the software from Canon and tried to setup the wireless connection from the computer to the printer, the printer could not be detected wirelessly-I had to pull out the 'ol USB. With the USB, the printer was detected. The test print page printed, which game me a false hope! I tried a dummy page from Pages and Word both, but nothing prints. The printer error indicates the printer is offline and not connected. This is the same problem I had with the less expensive Canon. Help! I want to be able to use the wireless function that I paid for to print. Thanks

When you connected the MX450 to the Mac via USB cable, it would have created a printer in Print & Scan for this USB connected printer. If you then disconnect the MX450 USB cable from the Mac but then attempt to print to the MX450 using the printer that was created for the USB connection, this will result in the "Printer Offline" message.
So, are you trying to print with the MX450 printer that was created for the USB connection?
If you are not using the USB printer and definitely using the printer that you created when the MX450 was connected to your wireless access point (wireless router), then try removing this printer from Print & Scan and creating the printer again.
If you cannot find the printer when you try to add it again then check the wireless network settings via the control panel on the front of the printer. It will confirm what wireless network it is connected to and what IP address it has acquired.

Printopia is another option but be aware that since these solutions effectively act as a print server and AirPrint receiver, they require a computer to be running on the same WiFi network.
Canon also has a couple of apps in the App Store that might facilitate this on non-AirPrint printers. Check out...

    Hello Betty7,
Please let me take a moment to say "Welcome" to the HP Forums.
I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see that you are having an issue with getting the printer reinstalled.
I suggest that we start off by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If the Doctor fails, please let me know where it fails as well as any error codes it may generate.

  • Canon Pixma MG7150 wifi connection problems

We recently purchased a Canon Pixma MG7150 printer so that we could wirelessly connect to our windows 7 laptop, and all our apple devices.
We were able to set up the printer following the instructions and it worked no problem.  However, everytime we now go to print something we are constantly getting a message saying airprinter not found when trying to print from ipad/iphones.  All the iphones/ipads have the latest ios software on them so that is not a probelm and the printer has the latest firmware too.
There is no problem with ink either.
I tried to print a photo from my ipad and in the canon pimxa app on ipad it shows the canon mg7100 series but when I go to print it says airprinter not found.
The whole point of buying this printer was so that we could print via wi-fi but the only way to resolve this issue is to reset the hub everytime you want to print something which is extremely frustrating to the point that we now regretting buying the printer.
If anyone can help or advice how to resolve this issue it would be much appreciated.

    Hi
I originally posted this, and thought that I had managed to fix the problem.  BUT the solution was very short lived.  I am becoming extremely frustrated by the whole issue.  The only way to connect wirelessly is to reboot my BT HH3 so that it can find the printer.
I disabled the settings so that IPV/4 was the only one used and also the wireless lan DRX setting was set to disabled too.
I spoke to Canon who said that it could be the fault of BT so speak to them.  They are basically saying that the connection is fine and that it a canon problem.  I am going round in circles here without any solution to the problem about connecting to the printer.
BT will not give me a static IP address unless I am a broadband business customer.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can resolve this.  I have tried resetting the printer and hh back to factory settings and starting over again.  It works for a short period then stops.
If anyone can help I would be grateful as getting very very frustrated here.

  • Printer Canon Pixma MP620, Wifi problem

I have a new Canon Pixma printer mp620 (USB / LAN / wifi)
I can not get the printer with the wifi ?
It works well with USB cable directly on the iMac!
This printer is used in a wireless network with a Windows XP computer with a wireless modem router USRobotics
What is wrong with the iMac ?
Tips: the printer works well in wireless with the PC WinXP
Canon doesn't propose new driver on www.canon.com !
    Thank you in advance ...

If you want to connect to the MP620 via wireless, then the instructions are stating that you need to have your wireless access point (the wireless router) ready and you need to know some information about the router, such as its SSID (its name) and any password you will need to connect to it.
The setup is pretty easy. It's just the manual tries to cover too many options.
First you must have the printer driver installed and be connected to it via USB. This is so you can communicate with the printer to configure the network (LAN) settings.
With the printer appearing in the Printer list, you can open the printer queue and select Utility. From the new window, select the Printer shown as a USB device and click the Network tab. This will guide you through connecting it to your wireless network. This is where you need to know your access point information. Once the printer is connected to your wireless network, you will be prompted to turn off the machine and then unplug the USB cable. When you turn the printer back on, you can then add the printer queue again, this time for the network connection. As others have said above, select to Add then select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The MP620 should appear in the list, which you select and then click Add. Now you are ready to print...

  • Can iPad 2 3G wifi print to canon pixma ip 100

Can iPad 2 3G wifi print to canon pixma ip 100

    Khaled-
The iPad only prints by WiFi, so your 3G is not involved.  There must be a WiFi path between the iPad and the printer.
I do not believe your Canon printer is compatible with AirPrint, so you will need an alternative way to print.  Look in the iTunes store for Canon Apps that can print to your printer.  There are other Apps such as Print n Share that should work for you.
Another way is to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Printopia is a Macintosh program that can do this.  For a free alternative, search the web for AirPrint Activator.  Versions are available for both Mac and Windows.
