Wifi card sometimes showing sometimes not showing up in device manager

Recently on startup my wifi connection sometimes does not appear and when i go into device manager it does not seem to be there at all. Through some research it could be that my inbuilt wifi card is dying? I might have to reboot my laptop 6 times before it miraculously seems to work. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Do i need to buy a new wireless card? Thanks.

Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have looked into the issue you are having with your WiFi connection disappearing on your HP Pavilion DV6 6B00 Notebook with Windows 7. Have you tried to connect the Router directly to the Notebook? Here is a document I found called HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. In this document it will show you where the Wireless Network Card sits and how to reseat the card. Sometimes this can help reset it with the Notebook. The other document that I found for you is called Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection for Windows 7. I am also attaching a link to update the Drivers for your HP Pavilion DV6 6B00. This link is from the HP Website and there is an updated Intel Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Windows 7 driver available.
Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went.
Thank you! Have a great day!

    Hi,
I cannot use my wireless internet connection. The LAN connection works fine when connected via cable.
I have read all the related topics to make sure i am not repeating a previously solved issue but i cannot figure out the problem.
The connection status indicator in the system tray shows no available networks,
The wireless indicator light on the front of the laptop is not illuminated.
Fn+F8 does nothing (even after resetting flash cards with value package etc) the 8191SE card does not show in device manager and i have tried adding it manually to no avail.
I have installed the latest wireless card driver specific for the 8191SE again but nothing.
I have also removed the card and re-seated it but still nothing shows in dev manager.
I have also updated my BIOS and made sure wireless is enabled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

    Hi
I agree with Lamp. The notebook should be tested with Toshiba Recover image which was preinstalled at the first day of purchase.
Usually if the Wlan card is not recognized in device manager, neither as an Ethernet controller nor as an unknown device, then this means that there must be an hardware problem.
But to be 100% sure about that, the factory reset is needed.
But I found 2 different Realtek Wlan drivers
[Realtek Wireless LAN Driver v 2.00.0006|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/download/resource/file/17443/tca0010300h.exe]

    Try to install both drivers

    Hi  Ian,
Welcome to the community, and thanks for the post.
The issue is related with software, to resolve this you need to re-install the card reader driver from the below mentioned web link.

  • MS-1762 with new 770M not showing up in Device Manager

Recently I tried to install a 765M into my Medion Erazer X7817, which is an MS-1762 barebone. Since that didn't work out in the end I returned the item and bought a green 770M which was said to be compatible with MSI (1762 as well as other boards) and Alienware.
The card came today and I inserted the new card into my laptop. There was no difference in terms of startup - no resolution change, nothing. Originally, if there was no card or a dead card inside the laptop the fan would spin up to 100% a few minute after startup. But after I installed the 770M the fan is quiet and normal, HOWEVER the card isn't showing up in Device Manager. It also isn't showing up in the NVflash utility so a vBIOS flash is out of the question for now. I have reseated the GPU and I double-checked to make sure it was in correctly.
Since the card is newer than both the 670M (the card which came with the laptop when I first bought it, which has died) and the 765M (the one I bought but didn't work in the end as it was for Clevo and Alienware only) would a BIOS update make the card visible somehow? Obviously I cannot install the drivers, only the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is showing up, and that has the latest drivers.
Any suggestions? This is a MS-1762 barebone, stock BIOS:
    American Megatrends Inc.
    Version E1762IM7.107

nope this bios is not for your notebook
    because its change .1xx ==> 7.xx , ie: Win7 ==> Win8
and because its change Medion to Retail
    double cross flashing
if you flash it, it may brick your notebook
or if its not bricked it can cause a side effects like brightness wifi are not working and to such
with no option to flash back to your original one
I realized. I could have used the /x parameter in afudos to force it, but that could've made things worse.
Which bios should I use then? Does unlocking my current bios allow compatablity for 7xxM cards?

  • Wifi card with rt2500 chipset not detected

    Hi all,
I got a new pci wifi card with chipset rt2500, but I can't make it work. I installed without problems rt2500 driver from beta 3, and when I run ifconfig, the wifi card doesn't show up. If I run iwconfig, ra0 shows up but with no wireless extension. I tried to do iwconfig ra0 mode monitor or managed, and it says "Invalid argument". The card works with a live cd distro (rt2500 driver) and with windows so it's not an hardware problem, and when I do a lspci, card is appearing.
I tried the rt2500-cvs driver, but I have the same problem too.
So I think help is needed

Zanton - maybe this is wrong place to ask this question but please can you tell me how did you compile your own kernel. I'm newbie with Arch and using pci wifi card with chipset rt2500 (not just now ).
I've used Slacware over an year without problems and I think it's little bit tricky to compile Arch-linux kernel with ABS-way because it was so easy in Slack.
So did you compile with ABS http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cus … n_with_ABS or some other way?
I'm using latest rt2500-driver (nightly-cvs) and SMP as well PREEMPT is on!

  • My wireless adapter is not showing in my device manager under network adaptors

    I have a Pavilion, model p6210f with Windows 7
I have used it for 2 years with an ethernet cable and now I need it to go wireless, however, no wireless adpater is showing in the device manager under network adaptors, only showing the LAN.
Checking the specifications for this model at the hp website, it should have a 56K Win Modem.
Don't know what to do except go buy a USB Wireless adaptor, any ideas?
Called tech support, but I was given no assistance.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01852858&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
The PC does not come with wireless networking capability - only a wired ethernet adapter and a dial up modem.
The easiest thing to do is to purchase and external USB wireless network adapter.
Below is a link which will give you plenty of choices to consider. Look at the reviews and buy one that best suits your needs. You will of course, also need a wireless networking router.

dv2915nr cd/dvd drive doesn't recognize when disk in. drive doesnt show up in device manager.

    Hi,
Here's one option you could try as it will give a good indication whether the problem is with Windows or a Hardware issue with the optical drive itself.
    Create a bootable Ubuntu CD
The Ubuntu CD you create should run as you boot the notebook ( ie outside of Windows operating system ), so if this will not run, the problem is almost certainly a Hardware issue with the DVD drive
On another PC, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if this OS will run from the CD.  The 'try it' option does not need to install on the Hard Drive, it just runs from the CD.
    http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
Let me know if this will run.

  • Graphics Card Does Not Show Up In Device Manager (Re: Installing AMD Video Drivers - Windows 8.1 (Step-By-Step Tutorial)

This tutorial is a step-by-step tutorial on how to "fix" issues of a new graphics card not appearing in Windows 8.1 Pro, or not appearing (as a device) in Device Manager, or it's not being detected by Windows 8.1.
This is the "second part" of a Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.
GRAPHICS CARD IS NOT DETECTED AND DOES NOT SHOW UP IN WINDOWS 8.1 DEVICE MANAGER
This problem can appear if the video card is not installed properly in the PCI slot and as a result the card is not detected in device manager. Check the physical connections again, reinsert the card properly in the PCI slot, check the connections (including the power cables going to the video card, and ensure that the fan on the graphics card is spinning and the card does have power and is properly seated/inserted) and then install the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
If the video card is in fact installed properly, but the problem of the video card not being discovered/found by the operating system persists, then try these following methods below to check if this solves the problem.
    Method 1:
First, I would suggest you to run the following Microsoft Fixit to get the problem automatically detected and fixed. This Microsoft "fixit" App checks if the device is currently disabled or turned off or the driver is not installed.
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us
    Method 2:
Sometimes, some devices in device manager are hidden due to corrupt or missing drivers.
Follow the steps below to show hidden devices in the device manager and troubleshoot accordingly.
Press the Windows key + X
    Select Command Prompt (Admin)
Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit enter
Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC and hit enter.
Once in Device Manager hit the View menu and select show hidden devices.
From here, remove each instance of the AMD or Nvidia card you see as well as each unknown device. Exit Device Manager and reinstall the latest drivers you can find for your graphics card.
After you install the drivers, reboot and see if you get any different results.
If the above solved your problems and the Graphics Card is now working and is now being properly detected/displayed in Windows Device Manager:
If your graphics card is now being detected by Windows 8.1 in Device Manager, but has a "yellow exclamation" mark (or video drivers are not found or not properly installed or the device is disabled) then install the latest graphics card drivers and proceed with this Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.
    Method 3:
If methods suggested above does not help, I would recommend you to contact Apple/AMD/NVIDIA to get the latest chipset, BIOS, graphics card drivers installed properly.

  • My iPod touch 5g is not syncing, opening in iTunes, charging, or showing up under Device Manager

My USB connectors are working--my brother's 4g iPod Touch could charge fine on my PC.
THis iPod is relatively new--August of 2013--and I have not had trouble with it before.
I guess it started when my iPod ran completely out of power, as it sometimes does. However, this time it would not charge right away and showed the "Low Battery" screen (The charge bar with the little bit of 20% red charge, with a symbol of a USB charger and a lightning symbol underneath).
It wouldn't charge, sync, or connect to my PC, so I left it in the wall overnight. In the morning it was fully charged--I think it is only able to charge in sleep mode. When plugged in via USB cord to the wall or computer, the little lightning sign, symbolizing that it is charging, does not appear.
When plugged into my PC, under MY COMPUTER, instead of reading "Apple iPod," there was some USB link, including "F://".
Upon clicking it it read : F:// refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location. I stupidly DELETED this file and emptied my Recycling Bin. I cannot find my Apple iPod in Device Manager or anywhere. Please Help! I need to charge my iPod. Can I somehow restore my iPod without iTunes?
I will do this if I have to,but I would rather not have to reinstall all my apps, contacts, etc.
I have tried uninstalling (by going into Control Panel and one-by-one completely deleting everything Apple-related, including iCloud and Safari), then reinstalling iTunes; resetting my iPod; restarting my computer. Both my iTUnes and iPod are updated to the most current version. Do I need a new battery?

You need iTunes 11.1 or later on the computer
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    Then
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Wireless adapter not showing up in device manager

    Hello all,
I am having a particularly frustrating problem. I was playing around with the memory timings to overclock my computer and all of a sudden, my wireless adapter ceases to exist to my computer. It does not show up anywhere in device manager (including no unknown devices or anything), only the Ethernet shows up. I have tried a system restore, turned off all OC and my BIOS is updated to the most recent version. Is it possible that trying to overclock my computer caused the wireless adapter to burn out? The motherboard I'm using is the msi x99S gaming 9 ack.
Any help would be very appreciated, thank you all in advance for your time to help out!

remove power cord from the PSU and >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
if the wifi card is removable, try to reseat it
also install latest killer drivers from:

    Hi
If anyone is able to give me some advice I'd really appreciate it. I have seen similar issues on here and tried uninstalling then re-installing the driver which seemed to fix the similar issue on someone's Windows 7 system but it doesn't seem
to have worked for me. I also tried using the usb 2 drive rather than the usb 3.
I have a new cube laptop with Windows 8 (which I'm not used to yet at all) and am trying to access the files from the Maxtor hard-drive from my old pc. The hard-drive does not show up under file explorer but seems to appear in device manager. The
laptop makes noises occasionally as if it is detecting some hardware but not showing it.
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
    Thanks in advance

    Apologize for the late reply.

Or take a look at the format of that hard drive(list disks) with diskpart command:

Hello everyone. So my lenovo g550 webcam stopped working after I did a clean install of windows 7 home. When I go under device manager I do not see any unknow devices. When I also go to show hidden devices it is not there. Could anyone give me information about how to fix this and if the cable to the webcam might be broken. If so, is there a way I could convert the webcam's pin outs to usb to test it. I have split an old usb cable into four colored spots. Not sure if i want to test it though. That would be my last resort. If needbe, can you tell me the pin outs for the webcam. It has five connectors. The reason I know this is usb is because my older installation on windows 7 detected it and said that the usb could be faster. Thanks.
