Wifi card with rt2500 chipset not detected

Hi all,
I got a new pci wifi card with chipset rt2500, but I can't make it work. I installed without problems rt2500 driver from beta 3, and when I run ifconfig, the wifi card doesn't show up. If I run iwconfig, ra0 shows up but with no wireless extension. I tried to do iwconfig ra0 mode monitor or managed, and it says "Invalid argument". The card works with a live cd distro (rt2500 driver) and with windows so it's not an hardware problem, and when I do a lspci, card is appearing.
I tried the rt2500-cvs driver, but I have the same problem too.
So I think help is needed

Zanton - maybe this is wrong place to ask this question but please can you tell me how did you compile your own kernel. I'm newbie with Arch and using pci wifi card with chipset rt2500 (not just now ).
I've used Slacware over an year without problems and I think it's little bit tricky to compile Arch-linux kernel with ABS-way because it was so easy in Slack.
So did you compile with ABS http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cus … n_with_ABS or some other way?
I'm using latest rt2500-driver (nightly-cvs) and SMP as well PREEMPT is on!

I have a Belkin F5D7010 wireless card with RT2500 chipset .I have been trying to set up this wireless card on Solaris10 (IBM thinkpad R40 box) for the past week, without success. If i use ndis wrapper I am getting $chicago$ Segementation Fault core dumped error while running ./ndiscvt -i ndis.inf - s ndis.sys -o ndis.h command. I tried with Ral driver too, I was able to plumb and the ifconfig-a shows ral0 interface up, but no connection. Is there no light at the end of the tunnel? Any help is appreciated . I am a novice in solaris.
    Thanks.

Thanks, what about RAL driver , is it hopeless for
this card too. At this point I am pretty much ready
to get myself one of these cardsdon't know. All I do know is that their NDIS driver only has the code base for Broadcom cards only. I was hoping to use a Linksys card with their NDIS port but slammed into the wall and then posted a message. Support for any card other then Broadcom is simply not in the code base so there is nothing that you can do.
Netgear WG511T Cardbus Works, forgot to mention that I needed cardbus-0.3 as well.
    So Netgear WG511T
    with
    ath-01 for Solaris 10 support
wificonfig -01 for Solaris 10 support
cardbus-0.3 to get cardbus support added to Solaris 10.
The Netgear card is cardbus and Solaris 10 only has PCMCIA support without cardbus.

  • Is it possible to replace the wifi card with another one?

    Hi
I have a t400 with intel 5100 wifi card and now I want to install mac os on my laptop.
problem is that mac os does not detect the 5100 series of wifi card and I want to know whether it is possible to replace the current 5100 model with a older series?
Is there any certified service center in Uppsala/ Sweden to do that?
    Thanks,
    Solved!

Lenovo restricts the wireless cards to Lenovo branded units certified to work with the machine. This is done through a whitelist in the system BIOS. I recently disassembled the latest (version 3.14-1.06) T500/W500 BIOS and found the following whitelist table. This is raw big endian hex appended with what I found by searching the device ID's. Redundant entries are for varying vendor IDs.

Your T400 is from the same lineup and probably has the same list. Remember, you'll need to purchase a Lenovo branded unit.

  • T61 and the Intel Graphics Card error - external monitor not detected

T61 with Vista 32 bit, Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset and an Advanced Mini Dock.
I am trying to use the DVI port and an external monitor. The driver does not detect the external monitor.
Uninstalling the Intel driver the Generic profile will work on the external monitor, but is overly fuzzy, how do I get the T61 to recognize my external monitor with the right drivers?
I am currently running the Intel Driver Ver. - 7.14.10.1329, which provides the message under Multiple Display:
Two displays must be connected to the computer before you can use this feature. Please connect another display.
Of course my 22" monitor is connected.  That is the frustrating part.  I have also uninstalled Presentation Director, just in case, but then re-installed after it seemed that wasn't the problem.
There is a newer driver from Intel but it is not Lenovo approved yet I guess. Though I highly doubt this is the problem. What can I do?
    ~~
I did post a thread on the thinkpads.com too, but so far haven't had any luck.

Well the new dock came but didn't fix the problem.  Now my nice new T61 is packed up in a depot box, waiting for DHL to come pick it up.
dkaufman1 -- I guess we do have different problems.  If I set my T61 to display to the DVI port in the bios I get a blank screens on both the DVI connectd monitor and the laptop screen until the OS boots when I have the laptop in the dock.  The only way I can see the bios screen to set it back to the ThinkPad LCD setting is to boot it disconnected from the dock.
I really hope that this problem is resolved, as I really like the T61 otherwise.  I was even using it with the VGA cable connected to my 22" monitor, but it was pretty hard to take.   I'm now back to my old desktop hooked up to the same monitor via DVI and it is quite the relief, even if it isn't as zippy as the T61.

  • WiFi Card with Tungsten EH

I just received a PalmOne WiFi card for my Tungsten E2 for Fathers Day and was trying to set it up. I have been very unsuccessful. I have internet capabilities at home and at the office on my PC. I have WiFi capabilities with my laptop at work which allows me to take it anywhere in the building and stay connect to our network and all our application. I do not have a media network plan for my cell phone, but it is capable, I just don't subscribe. Do I need to add the data plan from my service provider (AT&T Wireless) in order for my WiFi card to work/connect to the internet or can it connect to free WiFi networks on it's own?
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

A cell plan has nothing to do with the Wifi card...
Have you viewed the help file at the top of the BlueTooth and Wifi section of the forum?  It explains the basic settings needed to connect.  I wrote it for the TX, but it's applicable to the Wifi card too.
Do you know the passwords and encryption settings at work?  Have you tried entering them into the Wifi card's settings?  Are they broadcasting in /b or mixed mode?
What isn't working at home?  Do you have your all your router's settings entered correctly into the E2?

  • Replacing the Realtek wifi card with an Intel one

    Hey everyone,
I am trying to replace the poor performing realtek wifi module with an Intel Centrino one on my T420.
I purchased an "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205"  which is one of the chips the T420 comes with.
Apparently my chip is not whitelisted, as I could not boot with it plugged in.
Lenovo support was unable to tell me where to get a Lenovo branded chip.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!

    Hello and welcome,
As you've discovered, wifi cards have to be the correct model (Intel xyz) and have a Lenovo FRU number.
I can't link to the T420 Hardware Maintenance Manual at the moment - support is undergoing maintenance
Here are the Intel models and FRUs from my local T420 HMM:
    Wireless-N 1000                       60Y3241
    Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)             60Y3253
    Ultimate-N 6300                       60Y3233
    Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250, WW SKU       60Y3195
    Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250, Russia SKU   60Y3209
    Hopefully that helps your search.

  • Dell wireless 1350 card with BCM4306 chipset troubles

    Hello everyone,
I'm sort of new to setting up wireless in linux and my wireless card is driving me insane. I've tried the bcm43xx, bcm43, and ndiswrapper solutions from here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless and none of them seem to work. I am absolutely to determined to get the card working with ndiswrapper now. So I tried a tutorial from someguy who has the exact same chipset as me on the ubuntu forums here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=340689 and followed his exact instructions and it didn't work.
When I try to the command sudo "ifconfig wlan0 up" I recieve the message "SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory." So first let me go through everything I checked to make sure nothing was wrong. First when I cat out /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper I recieve the message "alias wlan0 ndiswrapper." Next when I run "ndiswrapper -l" I recieve the message
    "bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4320) present (alternate driver: ssb)"
Next when I run the command "lspci -nn" I recieve the output
    "02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4320] (rev 03)"
Finally, after I run the command "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up", if I go read the tail end of /var/log/messages.log I see the messages
    "Jun  9 13:05:31 theArch kernel: input: b43-phy0 as /devices/virtual/input/input11
    Jun  9 13:05:31 theArch kernel: b43 ssb0:0: firmware: requesting b43/ucode5.fw
Jun  9 13:05:31 theArch firmware.sh[2929]: Cannot find  firmware file 'b43/ucode5.fw'"
I have come to the startling conclusion that linux cannot find the driver that I installed with ndiswrapper. Is there anyway I can explicitly tell linux where the driver could be found? or should I just go out and buy a new expensive wifi card
If I were to go out and buy a new expensive wifi card, which card would you guys recommend?

Calm down guys - misunderstanding on both sides here.
hilariousity - when you're asking for help, you should be grateful to anyone who takes the time to respond. Telling someone they have no idea about the subject under discussion is likely to make them stop helping you, and to discourage others. I realise you're new here, so you may like to take a few minutes to read this.
wonder - he did say that he had already tried the b43* drivers, and that he was now determined to use ndiswrapper.
To return to the actual topic, wonder is correct. You need to install firmware for the b43* driver, or you need to blacklist the b43* drivers if you intend to use ndiswrapper.
Finally, if you were actually able to load the bcm43xx module, your system is out of date, and you should update it before proceeding.

  • Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

I have a PCI-e WiFi/BT combo card that worked in my HP laptop, but when I put it in the N580, It would not boot and said the wifi card was not authorized and I would have to remove it and replace with an authorized card. There are SO many different card available, I just want to find the correct one that will fit in the BIOS Whitelist.
I'm looking for a Dual Band wifi with Bluetooth 4.0 preferred. Something like this. Would this one on eBay work or is there another card I would need.
    Thanks!

    Hello and welcome,
Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.
For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.
Here's the list from the N580 Hardware Maintenance Manual:

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but that's the reality of the situation.

  • Pxi cards on 1000b cahssis not detected under windows 98

my mxi-3 card is being detected on windows startup (mxi-3 optimization software is running correctly) but all other pxi cards on my 1000b pxi chassis are not detected.

    Anis,
Well, I always prefer to try the simplest things first. In this case, that would be fully powering down the chassis and the computer. Then powering on the chassis first, and a few seconds later, powering on the computer. If this doesn't help, then you would probably want to try any or all of the following troubleshooting steps to try and isolate the problem:
    - Try removing all but the mxi-3 and one other card from chassis and then try booting up.
    - Try placing the pci mxi-3 card in a different slot in the computer.
    - Try uninstalling and reinstalling all the NI software on your computer. (better yet, format and reinstall).
    - Try the pci mxi-3 card in a different computer.
    - Try a different set of mxi-3 cards (if available)
    - Check
device manager to see if there are any errors or warnings.
So those are the things that I would try. If after all that you still have no luck connecting you may have a hardware problem and need to RMA (Return Materials Authorization) your hardware.
Please post back with what you find.

  • Wifi Card with the E2

Has anyone out there used/using the palm wifi sd card with the Tungsten E2?  How easy is it to work?  I was thinking of checking it out but was wondering if it is really worth it.  I have a wifi enabled system here and wanted to play around with the E2 and its wifi functions
    thanks

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hello jeridmar6, I've never used the card with an E2, but with my Zire72 it was fun!
It quickly went through the battery's charge, but I used to get a solid hour's worth of Wifi use before needing to recharge.
Just remember, it's a very old card by today's standards and the only security it can do is WEP encryption.  If you're running WPA or higher it will require you to back down a bit.

  • Wifi card sometimes showing sometimes not showing up in device manager

Recently on startup my wifi connection sometimes does not appear and when i go into device manager it does not seem to be there at all. Through some research it could be that my inbuilt wifi card is dying? I might have to reboot my laptop 6 times before it miraculously seems to work. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Do i need to buy a new wireless card? Thanks.

    Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have looked into the issue you are having with your WiFi connection disappearing on your HP Pavilion DV6 6B00 Notebook with Windows 7. Have you tried to connect the Router directly to the Notebook? Here is a document I found called HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. In this document it will show you where the Wireless Network Card sits and how to reseat the card. Sometimes this can help reset it with the Notebook. The other document that I found for you is called Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection for Windows 7. I am also attaching a link to update the Drivers for your HP Pavilion DV6 6B00. This link is from the HP Website and there is an updated Intel Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Windows 7 driver available.
Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went.
Thank you! Have a great day!

  • HDMI MBP with retina display not detecting tv

This is my first MBP. I tried to connect it to my receiver with HDMI cable, and nothing happened. When I connect it to my windows computer it works flawsley. I'm not really sure if there is something I need to do. All I did was plug it in. if someone could guide me it would be great.
    Thanks in advance

I had the same problem and followed the steps by clintonfrombirmingham but they didn't work. I guess the problem is about the switching between Integrated and Dedicated graphic cards. When integrated graphic card is selected the HDMI output doesn't work. I installed gfxCardStatus free app and when "Integrated Only" option is selected the mirroring with HDMI output isn't recognized. So, if you have it installed try change to "Dynamic Switching" or "Discrete Only" and see what happens. It worked for me! ;-)
I hope you fix that problem.
