Wifi connecting while turned off and on ethernet

Much the same as a lot of people I have been experiencing wifi issues, lost connections after sleep and usage speed etc, and after messing about with settings and a clean install decided to just turn off wifi and use ethernet until apple can sort out the complete mess that is OS X 10.10.
So... with Wifi turned off and ethernet connected via thunderbolt, approx every 20mins wifi turns it's self on and connects to my network for about 30 secs and then turns off. I get notified of this via little snitch and have monitored this via Network settings. I have tested this from both my existing and a new account.
Would anyone have any idea as to why this is happening?

I saw a thread like this a few weeks ago but don't remember if they reached a solution.  I'd do a search of the iPad forum and see what comes up and read through them.
Good luck.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Is the battery fully charged? Typically, a BB will begin to shut things down as the battery approaches zero charge.
    Also:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

    Hello Brenda,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPad.  It sounds like you're not able to access the Internet on your iPad.  I found a couple of resources that will help.

  • WiFI connected once turned off Ipod then wont connect anymore

So my touch was working good, i was able to access the internet but as soon as i powered it down the next morning turned it on again i got the "unable to connect to server" message, browsed through most of the forums for the Wifi fixes but cant seem to get it to go, anyone got any insight that would be helpful is much appreciated.

my advice then would be to go into settings select forget this network, then do a factory reset on your router, and reset up the wireless connection settings on your router. Then try to connect to the "new wireless network that you just setup. [Guide for wifi and ipod touch|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1315137&tstart=0].

  • HT201415 Disconnects from Wifi or have to manually turn off and turn back on to connect

I have an iPhone 4 that sometimes will loose wifi connection. Cellular data is turned off and all data is restricted to wifi only. Will work for a while and then load slowly or not at all. Have to manually turn off wifi and then turn back on to get it to work again. After a while this process keeps happening. All other devices in the home including PS3, Wii, and my other iPhone 3GS do not have any issues. Only the IPhone 4 has this disconnecting issues or totally does not detect the wifi at all sometimes. Please help!

Is this on all WiFi networks, or only your home network? If it's the home network try rebooting your router by turning it off for a few seconds. In either case go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset network settings. You will not lose any data, but will have to re-enter your WiFi encryption passcodes.

Make an appointment at the genius bar and take it in for them to look at. It will probably need to be replaced.

  • Macbook Pro - WiFi turns OFF and won't turn back ON

    Hello,
this is my first time posting something on this forum; I will be as detailed as possible. I bought a Macbook Pro back in 2011 and It came with Lion OS. Last year I upgraded it to Mavericks and so far it has been a nice experience. However, in the past week I have experienced a very strange and irrating problem with my macbook. While doing work all of the sudden the WiFi would turn off and lose all connection to the web. I attempted to turn it back ON by clicking on the wifi signal icon but something weird occured, it was still 'ON' according to my mac and the only option available was to actually turn it OFF, so i clicked on it and the icon would go empty with no curvy lines (i attached a picture). Then i clicked again on the icon to turn it back on, however, as was doomed to remain in this state cause no matter what I tried.. the wifi will remain off even after clicking on the 'turn wifi on' option multiple times. I tried going to the assist me option under network preferences and I obtained multiple results with no fix. I tried sending my mac to sleep though at first seemed to fix the problem.. the wifi inmediately went back to being off and wont catch a signal. The only thing that fixes this is a fresh restart which is annoying and unacceptable...this is really annoying and I need a solution asap because this problem is become very frequent (once every 2 hours)... any help will be appreciated it.
I attached 2 pictures and the console log when this happened.
    1. A picture of my assist me window before i sent it to sleep, shows the WiFi on the left with the 'Failed' (which confuses me). it also shows the wifi icon empty ( like it was off) but the computer shows as if it was on and would ask you to turn it off... weird?
A second picture after I sent my mac to sleep. Though it seems like there was no wifi signal available, the router was on and literally next to my mac...but my machine wont catch up the signal. (other devices were connected to the wifi and have no problem with it).
Here is the console log right before and after my this problem occured:

Thank you for your detailed troubleshooting attempts.  Very helpful.  Sorry, I cannot read "logs."  My eyes just glass over on those things.  Hopefully, a knowledgeable user will come along shortly to decipher for you.
I noticed from the pics that your location setting is "untitled."  Have you tried the "Automatic" setting?  Run the diagnostic test?  Results?
    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • Everyone 5 or 10 minutes I have to turn off and on the wifi.

Hi... Every 5 or 10 minutes I have to turn off and on the wifi if im using safari or anything else, like email or apps that need the wifi. Also if im not using the ipad and i pick it up to use it i first have to turn off and on the wifi otherwise it will not load the pages. I only have my ipad a month now and its been like it from the first day.Any solutions to this problem?

mhmediaonline I had tried that before but it didn't change anything. About two days I went to a cafeteria and I couldn't connect to the wifi but two friends who also have iPads connected without a problem. I also noticed yesterday that it took a whole day for the wifi to get stuck and that I didn't have to turn off and on the wifi,I just pressed Renew Lease and the wifi was ok. Have any other iPad users encountered the same problem? Any other suggestions?

    Hi kamalkumar,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPhone.
The article below will provide some troubleshooting steps for this issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
