Wifi connection bad since upgrade to 10.4.10  FIXED!!!!!!

I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!! Here's what I did:
1) Download Pacifist http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
2) Download airport extreme update 2007-002
3) Download 10.4.9 combo update
4) Go to /system/library/extensions and copy appleairport.kext and appleairport2.kext to a backup location just to be safe and then delete them from the extensions folder.
5) Also in the extensions folder you'll find IO80211Family.kext and copy it to backup folder and then delete it.
6) Mount airport extreme update dmg and then open Pacifist.
7) In Pacifist click on "Open Package" and select the airport extreme update package.
8) In Pacifist you will now see all the files that are in the package. Find system and expand it's tree by clicking on the triangle. then expand library and then extensions. You will now see the IO80211Family.kext file. Click once on it so it's highlighted and then click "Install".
9) When it's done copying files expand coreservices and then menu extras. Highlight "Airport Menu" and click install.
10) When it's done copying close the window in Pacifist for the airport update package.
11) Now mount the 10.4.9 combo update dmg and click "Open Package" in Pacifist and select the 10.4.9 combo package.
12) Again find the system folder and expand it and then expand the libray and extensions folders.
13) In the extensions folder you'll see a bunch of files. Look for appleairport.kext and highlight it. Click "Install".
14) when it's done copying you should see the appleairport2.kext. Highlight it and click "install".
15) when Pacifist is done copying reboot your Macbook.
16) Once booted try your internet and then jump up and down shouting YIPEEEEE!!! IT'S FIXED!!
I have now had a solid connection for over 30 minutes on battery as I've been typing these instructions when I couldn't stay connected for more then 1-3 minutes before applying this fix.
Who needs Applecare support!!!!...HEHEHEHE!!!!
Hope this helps and enjoy having your internet connection back. I think I'll send Apple a bill for all my labor time fixing their bug. Boy wouldn't they just love that..LOL!!!!
THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME! FOLLOW THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG SUCH AS YOU DELETED THE WRONG FILES OR YOUR SYSTEM HAS OTHER ISSUES THAT MAY AFFECT THE OUTCOME!!!
Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

What I have done is basicly the same as uninstalling the network card driver and reinstalling an older version like you would in windows. This should not have any effect on what version my OS is. For example..if I am running Windows XP Pro with SP2 and I install a new video card driver which ends up causing video issues and I then remove the newer driver and put back the original driver I was using..have I changed my verion of windows? Will I have problems applying new hotfixs and patches from Microsoft? The answer to both is no. The only thing that was affected was the video driver..other then that I'm still running Winxp Pro with SP2.
What I have done with the Macbook is basicly the same thing except Apple calls them kernel files instead of drivers. The only kext files that I changed were stricly for the airport card. I have not replaced any main OSX kernels. And as far as any future upgrades go the couple of files I downgraded will be deleted and replaced by newer ones.
Also what I have learned in my 27 years in computer repair/networking is sometimes you have to improvise a little if you want the problem fixed. You either downgrade the driver or program or go without until a patch is released which could be 2 days from now, 2 years from now or in some cases never. All I have to say is that OSX is much more stable then windows as long as you don't have a problem like this one where a new driver was introduced into the system which is now knocking out a very critical component. In this case I would gladly take the not so stable windows machine over the OSX machine simply because windows has two things that OSX doesn't. One being the add/remove programs feature and the 2nd is the windows registry. So if you are unable to properly remove a program by uninstalling you can still remove it's entries from the registry which basicly achieves the same end result. Apple needs to build in a module to OSX that does the same thing as windows add/remove. Nobody should ever have to fresh install the OS everytime a buggy or corrupt piece of software is installed. If a program can be installed there should always be a way to uninstall it and restore the system to its previous working condition
Anyways my airport is working perfectly now and my OSX slow downs and processing delays are gone now and the Macbook is back to it's old self again.

  • Wifi connection bad since upgrade to 10.4.10

I have been using my MacBook now for a month. Since I had it connected to my network without any problem. A WDS based wifi network with 4 nodes. Since I upgraded the macbook to 10.4.10 the connection gets unreliable.
after some time I notice that Google Notifier shows an exclamation mark. The available SID's are not shown, than just the one shown as being connected to. Turning airport off and on again shows my list anymore. And trust me, there should be at least 5 available SID's in this location of use. The only way to resolve it is by restarting the system. Even once, the system crashed when turning the airport off.
Does anyone have the same problems???
My VAIO SZ2 does connect properly to the wireless network, just like phone and pda (E60 and 770). The network uses is a WPA personal with a preshared key. Based on linksys routers with DD-WRT and OpenWRT.

    Me too.

  • Messages App| connectivity issues since upgrading to Mavericks

is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I will start a desktop share session with my folks (IMAC) and within 2-3 minutes of having access to their desktop, I'm unable to control any longer and their system freezes.

    HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

  • Database connectivity issues since upgrading to 2011

I have several reports that were created in CR 2008.  Since upgrading to 2011, none of them connect to the SQL server when I try to refresh the data.  The error message says invalid logon.  I can get the reports to refresh if I follow this process:
    1.     Close the report
    2.     Delete connections to the SQL server
    3.     Close CR
    4.     Open CR
    5.     Create a new blank report and connect to the same data source as the failed report
    6.     Open the report that was failing
    7.     Refresh the data
Everything works at that point.  Once I close CR, next time I access the report I have to go through the entire process again.  Saving the reports after successfully establishing a connection does not fix the issue.  I have reset the data source location from the database menu as well as established new system and file DSNs.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
What I meant for version of CR 2011 is to click on Help About... you'll see the version number there.
Interesting, So if it fails in the ODBC Admin test then of course it's going to fail in CR Designer, CR simply uses what connection info you specify in the DSN or in the file. If you can get the DSN to work non-kerberose then adding that configuration to your File DSN should allow CR to work also.
Couple of possibilities, Older versions of CR ignored the security configuration, or at least this one test, and it was fixed in CR 2011, or possibly the File DSN needs to have the security type enabled through the connection property. Check MS for help on what the info in the line is to enable it.
Another possible solution is according to this MS Kbase they recommend that you use Kerberose...
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909801
So the result is, Set Kerberose on the Server or find out how MS will support non-kerberose security client side and see if that works. But because MS recommends using it discuss with your DBA and recommend to all to enable it and use it.
    Thanks again
    Don

  • Major iPad 3 WiFi connection issues since 5.1.1 update

Prior to the 5.1.1 update (which ironically was supposed to fix wifi issues), my iPad 3 worked great.  Since the update it has been a complete disaster.
Even though it always shows a strong wifi connection, certain apps seem to have no connection while others work fine.  Safari usually works ok, although sometimes pictures won't show up - just a small box in the corner.  Facebook app always seems to have issues as does Pandora.  The biggest problem is the App Store or iTunes which say it cannot connect even though Safari works fine at the same time.  Ive tried reconnecting, rebooting, and I even bought a new router since I thought maybe my old one was causing the problem.
Is Apple fessing up to this issue?  I have to believe it is a software/firmware issue since before the update everthing worked fine.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • No wifi connection after ios upgrade

I had iPad 2 wifi connection prior to the upgrade to a new IOS version.  It did not detect my wireless router at home.  I had tried to reset, and other possible suggestions found on the Internet, but none could help solved my wifi connection issue..  It will have connection if I sit next to my Verizon wireless.  If I move just a few feet away, there is no signal.
I also brought it to my friends, and it did not detect any wireless router there.  But if I sit next to the wireless router, it detected it.
Will try anything just to get my iPad to connect to the wifi again.
Thiking of brining it the Apple Store and hope they can help.

    1) Delete your WiFi connection on your iPad.
    2) Power off your router.
    3) Do a reset on your iPad by pressing home and on/off button
    4) Power router back up.
    5) Add your WiFi connection back to your iPad.

  • No automatic wifi connection after mavericks upgrade

I'm using a Mac Book Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012).
After upgrading to Mavericks the Mac is not connecting automatic to the wifi after restart or sleeptime.
It takes about minutes, to find all the available wifi connections ... after this the Mac is not connecting by its own.
I have to select manual my wifi connection.
This happens as well at any other router and wifi connection point.
    Thanks for help!

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • Why did iOS 7.x update affect iPad2 WiFi connection badly?

After updating to iOS 7.x my iPad 2 has very weak WiFi connection. It only works at home from about 1 meter distance. Other devices find the connection without problems. In other places (office, areas with public free WiFi networks) iPad does not find the WiFi network at all. Seems this problem is only with iPad2, newer  Apple HW does not seem to have the same problem.
I have tried all fix ideas I've managed to find, even resetting back to factory settings. I have also installed all available updates to the operating system. Nothing works. Any idea what has been changed in the iOS sw that affects the WiFi this way? Any fix expected from Apple?

I have deleted the network passwords in Keychain and reentered my WPA passwords, which has really help, but something is still not right with my wifi connection.  Other devices attach and work just fine, just my new MBA with ML.  Ideas?  Thanks

  • Still having WiFi connectivity issues. What can I do to fix this?

I have the new Macbook Air 2013, and since day one i have had WiFi connectivity issues. I know that this problem has been worked on and that a recent release of an update could help fix this problem. However; nothing for me has changed. I connect to my home internet and sooner or later my MBA disconnects and i have to reconnect it by either turning the WiFi on and off or going into network diagnostics. The time of my Air actually being connected varies from a coulpe second to a couple minutes and occasionally I may get 30 to 45 minutes before a disconnect.
If you could help it would be much appreciated.

That statement is unfounded, actually. ALL of those currently with wifi issues are able to connect via their iphone hotspot, or by means of their homebase AIRPORT base station, .....indicative of a software/ firmware issue.
Most dont consider a minor software/firmware issue an empirical defect, anymoreso than "forgetting something" is an empirical defect in a human being is.
The "speaker issue" is now uttterly proven a simple software issue, soon to be fixed, same is the case with the wifi issue.
You're forgetting that Apples 802AC  wifi is "next generation"  'tomorrows' technology. That a minor bug exists, soon to be fixed, is understandable.    Look on the bright side, ....the Macbook AIR is #1 seller and most beloved superbook out there for many reasons

  • Problem with wifi connection ever since I upgraded to ios 6?!

My wifi isn't working right and I just upgraded to ios about an hour ago. I clicked on the wifi network I wanted to join, and I have a connection but when I click on it, apple.com comes up and asks me to "Log In" but on the page it says "Sorry the page you're looking for can't be found" I'm not sure if this is an ios 6 problem or just a problem with my ipod/wifi, but please help me?!

Common problem.  Ugh.  I was hoping to find hope in these forums.  ipad 1 and ipod touch 4 both are unable to use the app store for anything other than software updates!  Crash crash crash.
And people are complaining about the maps!?
